EDM genre

Summary of Target audience
 With the genre ‘electronic dance music’, it is much more difficult to
pinpoint a target audience as you would do with an alternate genre
such as metal or rock.
 The key feature here however is age, the genre is focussed mainly at
the younger generation and most popular between the ages of 16-25
Research into statistics
 I did some research into different articles and websites containing information about the
typical EDM listener age, and I found out that a website/magazine called ‘Mixwag’,
which is the UK’s biggest dance magazine, contains 72% boys and 28% being girls with
their ages to be generally in their mid 20’s.
 Most of these people have a high disposable income and high propensity to spend their
money on. This can include night’s out, clothes, songs and any latest portable devices.
 These people are also usually the first ones to hear a now song, have the latest clothing
and/or know which club is best and when.
 This reader profile can consist over many areas and has no real specific popular area as
well as ranging from small bedroom DJ’s to large established artists.
 According to a statistic about music magazines, 80% of readers do not read another
music magazine and they don’t spend much time doing so either but instead prefer to
watch TV, particularly at weekends.
 They are also the largest downloader of music in the UK.

This is an image of someone who might listen to this genre
of music in my opinion. He is in his mid 20’s, dresses
casually and looks like someone who could know about the
latest EDM songs.
He is also someone who could have a job as well as being a
student so he is well funded when it comes to finding out
the latest EDM music.
He has a neat haircut and is dressed more sophisticated,
due to his age as well as wearing a casual long sleeved shirt
to look smart but comfortable.
His facial features are neat and well looked after, suggesting
that this particular person has a balance between looking
after themselves and going out spoiling themselves at
parties or clubs etc.
