AUDIENCE PROFILE FOR
ALTERNATIVE ROCK GENRE
 The average member of my target audience
who is interested in the alternative rock
genre will be both males and females, aged
between 16-30.
 Meet James Smith, a 17 year old who is a
typical alternative rock fanatic, being a fan
of bands such as Kasabian and Foo Fighters.
James is currently studying music and
technology in his final years of A Levels.
 James comes from a middle class
background in the South East of England and
attends a standard comprehensive school.
WHO IS MY TARGET AUDIENCE?
 Outside of education, James works part time at his local
supermarket on the weekends, allowing him to afford the latest
tracks and merchandise from his favourite bands.
 James is also an avid festival goer, attending the likes of
Reading Festival and Isle of Wight Festival. He enjoys festivals as
he likes to travel and spend time with his mates who also share
his taste in music.
 As well as attending festivals, James also likes to go to local
venues to see his favourite artists live. James also likes to go to
see lesser known artists live to see the upcoming talent.
 James will also connect with his favourite bands through online
media platform such as Facebook, Twitter and band websites.
This allows James to keep up to date with their latest tracks and
merchandise
IN HIS SPARE TIME…
 James enjoys the alternative rock genre as he is really
passionate about his music and appreciates the talent these
artists provide.
 As he plays also plays the guitar and piano, he can relate to
the music being played and also respect the skills being
shown
 James also likes the care-free attitude of most alternative
rock bands as he feels some of the newer artists care to much
about their appearance and less about the music they produce
WHY HE LIKES ALTERNATIVE ROCK
 I will use media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter
pages in order to connect with my audience and promote my
music video
 I could also produce newsletters in which the audience could
subscribe to which would keep them up to date with all the
latest news
 Therefore, my target audience would have to be of a middle
class background in order to access and afford these things.
 Also, as my target audience are 16-30 year olds, they would
generally be tech savvy and would therefore benefit from
things such as apps that they can store on their smartphones
