Ben Anderson conducted research to identify the target audience for his indie folk media product. He surveyed 10 people (5 men and 5 women) and found that the target audience for men is those aged 17-23, while the target audience for women is aged 16-23. Research on the indie folk genre and demographics of an indie music magazine called NME showed that the target audience is aged 17-25 and predominantly white British.

For bothof the differentgenderstheywouldshare acommoninterestintermsof theirlove of
music;showinganinterestinthe instruments maybeevensothattheyactuallyplay suchas often
foundto be acousticguitarsand alsothe overall meanings(intermsof lyricsandthe different
emotionsportrayed) thatare presentinthisgenre of music.Alsowiththe targetaudience’sclothes
theywouldbe more styledtobe more for comfort rather than to be fashionable withthe clothingbe
of lightaccentedcoloursreplicatingthe style thatiswornbytheirrole modelsintermsof the bands
that theylisten to.Theywouldbe particularlysociable people whoenjoysboththe mainstream
mediaproductsas well asthe much more small independentproductsmade fromfairlyunknown
artists.

To back up and reinforce the popularityof the genre of indie folkwithinthe age groupsstatedas
well asthe genders,Iresearchedintoapopularindie folk/rock/altmagazine calledNMEandlooked
at theirdemographics. The demographicsof the NME magazine foundthatthe targetaudience is
agedbetween17and 25. Due tothe magazine havingatargetaudience thatisunisex itishowever
interms of the mainreadersmainlymale dominated,statisticsshowingthatonly27% of the readers
are female comparedtothe large proportionthatmake up73% of readersthat are male.
Furthermore, fromthisresearchitwasdiscoveredthataverylarge proportionof readerswhether
male or female are white BritishmeaningthatIwill mainlytargetthose of thisethnicityandnot
focusas much on targetingotherethnicitiessuchasBlack British,Asian,Mixedetc.

attendfull time educationhavingabackgroundfromtheirparentsof beinglowermiddleclass(C1)
or Middle Class(B) witha small proportionof the restof the targetaudience originatingfrom those
whohave passedthrougheducationandworkinginfull time work(C1).
