2. Who would be the audience for your media product?
When deciding the target audience for my magazine carried out some
research to find the suitable age, gender and social status of the ideal
audience, I did this by looking at some of the music magazine distributors
web pages and comparing the statistics of certain magazines against each
other and what I was currently working towards.
The research included looking at the reader profile and readership of
other magazines such as 'Kerrang!' and 'Q' to find who my magazine was
most suitable for. Furthermore I carried out a survey via Survey monkey
to ask students and friends what they were looking for in a magazine
including freebies, interviews and competitions to decided what I would
have to offer to my readers. The final stage was the write a reader
profile to describe the type of person who would read my music
magazine.

Reader Profile
Alex is 18 years old and is currently studying his A-levels at College. Alex is very
sociable and has loads of friends who he likes to spend his weekends with, Alex also
likes fashion and is a big follower of the rock genre in particular. Some of his favourite
places to go are local gigs on a weekend this is when he normally socially interacts with
friends outside of college and work. Alex has a part time Saturday job working in the
clothing outlet Topman. Alex aspires to be a great rock musician and takes a lot of his
inspiration from rock musicians in the media, some of the bands Alex loves are With
one last breathe, Enter shikari and Bring me the horizon. Alex purchases all of his
albums online usually via the Itunes. One of his favourite things to do are festivals in
the summer where he can meet new people who have the same interests and music
taste as him although he doesn't go often due to how expensive they are. Alex is
usually the most up to date with fashion and music in his peer group as he reads a lot
of articles online and in magazines.
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
Gender
The majority of my readers will be male, according to my research males are the rock
genre magazines largest audience demographic.
For example the reader life style of 'Kerrang!' magazine
Is 60% male and 40% female.
Although my magazines audience is primarily male
My magazine will also attract a female audience with
The use of a female artist on the front cover because
they can relate to her and can see her as some to
Aspire to be like.
The idea that the magazine is for a mixture of male and females is can been seen by
the use of images featuring male and female artists. I have also used a neutral colour
scheme that will attract both a male and female audience as apposed to a colour
scheme consisting of colours relating mainly to one gender i.e. the colour pink.
The female on the front cover will attract a male audience through Laura Mulvey's
theory of the Male Gaze meaning the men may find some sexual attraction to the
female.
5. Who would be the audience for your media product?
Age
I have used quite nuetral colours on the cover of my magazine which will
leave the magazine open to a wider age group, this suggests that the
magazine is aimed at people in the late teens/early 20's who are
sophisticated and mature.
I have used Buzz words and colloquial language which relates to the
teenage culture and will attract teenagers because they can relate to the
magazine and the way the content is written. This is used because it can
be associated with text language and abreviation.
The colour scheme I have chosen can also be associated with the rock
culture which is primarily made up from people in their late teens and
early twenties.
6. Who would be the audience for your media product?
Age
Some more factors that are apparent when appealing to a teenage
audience are that my magazine consists of primarily photographs
and images as opposed to text this is because stereotypically
teenagers will be more interested in the use of imagery than
reading, it also shows that the content they want to read can be
read quickly and with ease.
My magazine also includes a free downloadable posters which is an
iconic decoration that teens have on their bedroom walls.
The fact that the audience can enter to win a competition to win an
Iphone 5s demonstrates the idea that teenagers love and know a lot
about modern technology.
7. Who would be the audience for your media product?
Class
My magazine is priced at £1.50 and is a new issue is publish fortnightly,
this is because my target market is teenagers who will have some
disposable income but only a small income in the first place, this also
reflects the fact that my magazine is released fortnightly. This is far
cheaper than Kerrang! Magazine for example that is published weekly at
the price of £2.20.
Rock and punk music is generally aimed at the working class as this is
where the genres originate from however Kerrang!'s readership is 50%
ABC1 and 50% C2DE which shows that there is a good variation of
readers.
With the use of freebies and competitions my magazine attracts a
working class audience perhaps cannot afford to buy some of the
freebies and competition prizes featured in my magazine.
