2. • In order for my magazine to sell
well and be correctly distributed
it must have a primary target
audience. My magazines
primary target audience is
aimed at both males and
females, who are into indie-rock
music and of ages between 16-
20. My secondary target
audience is aimed at males and
females aged between 20-35
who are also into indie-rock
music.
3. • When trying to establish my
primary target audience, I created
a Survey to determine what
content teenagers would be most
interested in. The survey showed
that the most popular genre of
music from the options provided
was Indie/Alternative with both
Rock and Pop coming in at close
second. I then decided, seeing as
Indie/Alternative and Rock are
closely linked I decided to combine
them, and base my magazine on
the sub-genre Indie-rock.
4. • These audience members would
typically be into bands such as
Blossoms, Arctic Monkeys, Royal
Blood, Foals, Shinedown, Highly
Suspect, Twenty-One Pilots, The
Wombats, Mumford & Sons,
Catfish and the Bottlemen etc.
5. • This target audience would mean that an online
version of the magazine may sell well as this
generation of teenagers are typically frequently
active online and therefore more likely to buy a
digital copy. The price of the magazine also is
clearly targeted towards a younger audience as
£2.30 is very reasonable in comparison to bigger
more prominent magazines.
• One point about the magazine however, is that
seeing as the cover model is a male it may be more
likely to attract a female audience as stereotypically
women would be drawn to the male model. In
contrast, it may also attract as much of a male
audience as young teens may see him as a role
model to look up to.
6. • A secondary target audience that my magazine
may possibly be aimed at is male and female adults
aged between 20 and 35. This target audience are
also into indie-rock music however, it would be the
older bands within the magazine. The reason this
target audience is included was because my
primary target audience would also be fans of
much older bands and artists who would feature in
my magazine, which an older audience would be
able to connect with and reminisce about. This
target audience would be more likely to purchase a
physical copy of the magazine as they may have
purchased magazines as such when they were
younger.
7. • This target audience would typically be
into bands such as Oasis, The Stone Roses,
The Courteeners, The Smiths, Joy Division,
AC/DC, The Charlatans, The Jam, The
Verve, Blur etc.
8. • The magazine addresses both target audiences
in a very informal and simplistic tone, as if they
are talking with a friend. The magazine also
using both new and old bands titled on the
front cover to attract both target audiences
equally.
