Target Audience Questionnaire
In orderto have the abilitytocreate a suitable,efficientandcompactmusicmagazine,Ihave
devised10questionsof whichI've giventofifteen,14- 19 yearoldsin whichwill helpme conclude
to whatpeople of thisage range are lookingforina successful,affordable andinformativemusic
magazine.The fifteenquestionnaireparticipantshave beenselectedatrandomtogive varied
opinionsinwhich willindividuallyrepresentsmanyteensthatare mytarget marketandhelpme
create a magazine suitableformanydifferentteens.
1. What genderare you?
It was importanttohearfrom bothmale and female
teensasit's expectedtounderstandtheirdifferent
interestsandwhattheywouldlookforina music
magazine.Of the 15 teens,8 were female and7were
male,hearingmore orlessa fairamountfrom both
genders.
2. What age range do you fall into?
It was importanttoidentifythe agesof those withinthe age
range to see how likes,dislikes,opinions etc. variedonwhat
they’dlike tosee ina musicmagazine andhow thiscan be
generalisedinordertocreate a magazine whichwill appeal to
all between14-19. My resultsconcludedtomostfallinginthe
age range of 16-17, inferingthatthisisthe age range I should
aimto target my musicmagazne at.
3. What genre of musicdoyou prefer?
In orderto create a musicmagazine,identifyingthe
favouritedgenresof musiciskeyinordertoproduce
necessaryinformationformusiclovers.Myresultsvaried
fromR&B (4 people),Classic(2people),Country(1person),
Pop(6 people)andElectronice (2people).PopandR&Bbeing
the most popularamongstthe 15 teens,it’simportantto
roundit downto these togenres,targetingPopandR&B
lovers,amagazine whichisupto date onthe topcharts, new
entriesandnewartists.
4. How oftendoyou readmusicmagazines?
From these results,Ihave concludedthatwithinthe 15 teens,
33.3% (5 people) saidthat theyreada musicmagazine every
fortnight,therefore,whencreatingmyproduct, Imustthink
aboutthe amount of informationImustinclude,inthiscase,a
seriesof newsoverthe pasttwopreviousweeks.
5. How much are youwillingtospendonamagazine?
It was keytofindout howmuch teensare willingto
spendonbuyinga musicmagazine asnot all have a
large disposable income;thereforewe wanttomake
the magazine assessableandaffordabletoteens.The
majorityof teenssaidthey’d investfrom50p to £1 on
the magazine due tobe allocatedonlyacertain
amounta month,therefore it’simportantwe work
withthissellingprice toattractas many readersas possible.

It was imperativethatIquestionedwhethermusicinthe topcharts ispopularamongstthe teensso
I can thenincorporate thatin mymagazine.The majoritysaid‘Yes’,therefore Imustinclude info
aboutartists inthe top charts and musicclimbingandfallingdowninthe charts.
7. Do you use social media?
Most of the teenssaidtheywere signeduptoat leasttwoof the
top social mediasites.The mostpopularbeingTwitterand
Instagram- sayingthiswastheirprimarysource of data when
findingout,directlyfrommusicartiststhemselves, wheretheyare
and infoaboutnew albums/musicetc.
8. What ways doyou findmosteffectivewhenfindingnew music?
Giventhe choice of answeringRadio,TV,Magazines,Social mediaand
Family/friends,the majorityansweredsocialmedia.Fromthis,Imust
finda more efficientandeffective wayof teensbeingable tofindout
infoaboutnewmusicthroughthe magazine ratherthan social media;
includinginfothatwouldn’tbe published online.
9. What colour scheme doyouprefer?
Whenit comesto teens,it’snotjustaboutthe contentsof the
magazine,the designandappearance of the magazine is
equallyimportant-Itmustbe eye catching.Therefore it’s
importantwhatcolourschemesteenspreferandhow I can
incorporate thisintomymagazine.
10. Wouldyouprefera female ormale onthe front coverof a musicmagazine?
The majorityof teenswouldprefertosee amale on the coverof the magazine astheydon’t
wantit to seemtoofeminineor“girly”witha female onthe front. However,some preferreda
womanas it seemed more appealingtobothmale andfemales.
