This Mini Expo event is designed to be a highly interactive experience to engage the TI community in a scavenger hunt-like activity to seek, find and share tools that have a demonstrable role within the classroom. Participants will support other group members and share / report on their findings after being introduced to and registered with Twitter and 21st Century e-Teacher (the registration process for both will be included in the Expo).

- When the Hi-TECCC team first started meeting I often referred to Kidz Online, an independent educational organization that we became the signature sponsor of several years ago. However, in December we decided to end our relationship w/ Kidz Online and create our own educational non-profit, which is now Nortel LearniT. When Nortel decided to pursue creating a global community relations initiative, we knew we wanted to focus on education, but we also wanted to make sure that whatever we did would really make a difference for teachers and students. As we started doing research and talking to teachers, we found that what seemed to be lacking in many schools was technology CONTENT. Thanks to many TIF grants there was plenty of technology equipment, but no way to really showcase the investment made from these equipment purchases. So, fast forward to today, and Nortel LearniT, the one-stop shop for teachers to not only hone their own technology skills, but also to introduce technology skills to their students. I think it’s important to note here that Nortel LearniT is more than just technology training…lots of people are offering that. What distinguishes Nortel LearniT is that it’s all about technology integration…it helps educators build technology into the curriculum.
- So, the content on Nortel LearniT includes videos that help with all of the above. Please note #2…all of the lesson plans and other content on the site have mapped to state standards, including TEKS, as well as ISTE and NETS standards. By the first of April, we plan to have a registration process in place that allows teachers to sign in and provide the state that they teach in. When they do that, the state standards will automatically be listed in the lesson plan.
