Table Of Contents For Essay
Creating an essay on the topic "Table of Contents for Essay" might seem deceptively simple at
first glance, but delving into the intricacies of this seemingly straightforward task can unveil its
inherent complexities. The challenge lies not only in articulating the basic structure of a table of
contents but also in providing insightful commentary on its significance within the broader
context of essay writing.
To begin with, one must grapple with the concept of a table of contents itself, understanding its
role as a roadmap for readers and a snapshot of the essay's organizational framework. The writer
needs to consider various types of essays – from academic research papers to creative
compositions – and analyze how the structure of their table of contents might differ based on
the specific requirements of each genre.
Navigating the fine line between conciseness and informativeness poses another hurdle. A well-
crafted table of contents should offer a clear overview without divulging too much detail,
striking a balance that sparks the reader's interest while maintaining an element of suspense
regarding the essay's content.
Furthermore, the essay must address the evolving landscape of digital media and its impact on
traditional table of contents formats. With the rise of online publications and multimedia essays,
the writer needs to explore how the conventional table of contents adapts to these changing
mediums, considering hyperlinks, interactive elements, and multimedia integration.
Assembling a comprehensive discussion on the topic also involves an exploration of the cultural
and historical aspects of table of contents. How has the approach to organizing information in
this manner evolved over time? What cultural nuances influence the expectations and
conventions surrounding a table of contents in different academic and literary traditions?
In conclusion, tackling the essay on "Table of Contents for Essay" demands a nuanced
understanding of both the practical and theoretical aspects of this seemingly mundane element
of academic and creative writing. The writer must navigate through the complexities of structure,
information presentation, and the evolving nature of media to provide a well-rounded analysis.
For those seeking assistance with essays or similar academic tasks, a variety of resources are
available. Services like HelpWriting.net offer a platform where individuals can order custom
essays, receive guidance on writing techniques, and explore a myriad of topics within the realm
of academic writing. Whether it's delving into the nuances of table of contents or addressing
broader essay-writing challenges, such platforms provide valuable support for those navigating
the intricate landscape of academic writing.

Blinker Broken Essay
It seems fitting to tell the story that forced me to take a look at how I approached
being offended and what I understood about forgiveness.
I have never been fond of traffic. I am even less fond of rude and inconsiderate
drivers. Since I was a commuter I drove at least 100 miles a day just to get to and
from work. I found plenty of opportunities to get angry and take driving mistakes
personally.
I took the same route from work to the freeway everyday. You saw many of the
same people, most of them strangers, but now faces that I saw every day. There was
a man who every day ,at the same intersection, turned from the center lane and drove
through the turn lane illegally with no signal and no warning. Cars honked. People
were run off the road ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the day came I quickly turned into the proper lane and followed. The longer
I had to follow the more the anger built up. It was 45 miles later when he turned
into a gas station. He didn t use his blinker so I had to make a quick turn around. I
leaped out of my car and my voice was most certainly louder than probably necessary.
Hey, is your blinker broken?
No.
Sir, at the intersection of 2700 South and 600 you routinely turn from the middle
lane, completely cross the turning lane and to make your turn. Cars honk, I have
seen at least 3 have to go off the road to avoid collision and even here you did not use
your blinker. This needs to stop.
His reply surprised me a bit and was twice as loud. Lady, if you followed me, that is
stalking and I am going to report you.
It was just like pouring gasoline on a fire. I blew up. I marched back to my truck,
with gusto and wrote down my name and contact information. Then I put on my best
professional voice.
I look forward to speaking with the officer. I am sure he will be grateful to get a full
account of why I needed to follow you. I am sure he will be most interested. I
clickety clacked back to my truck and fumed all the way
Macroeconomic Variables Of The Stock Market
Executive Summary
The belief of macroeconomic variables influencing the stock market has been a
highly debated discussion for the past decades. There has been no clear conclusion
whether or not macroeconomic variables impact the stock market or inversely. The
importance of this study have been increasingly critical as not only stock agents find
the critical importance but the government to implement macroeconomic policy; the
solid finding of this relation will enable policy makers to efficiently and effectively
control the economy as well as the capital market. We aim to cover some relationship
between macroeconomic indicators, including consumption, interest rate
unemployment rate and inflation rate, and with stock price.
Stock price or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, the correlation between consumption growth and stock returns is higher
than average due to the high total wealth. Consequently, it is possible to see a
positive correlation between the consumption and stock return (Li and Zhong 2010)
Stock price or return and interest rate
The interest rate controlled by the Federal Reserve has a significant role in
influencing the consumers and firms consumption and investment behaviors. This as
a result indirectly affects the stock market. McCue and Kling (1994) claimed that US
the fluctuation in the nominal interest rate has affected approximately 36% or higher
in terms of the fluctuation real asset returns. Assuming rationality, this is because a
decrease in interest rates to investors will decrease opportunities to make income
from investments. The model that best supports the correlation between stock return
and interest rate is the capital asset pricing model as shown in appendix A (Hoe 2002,
p. 140). The interest rate is embedded in Beta which captures the systematic risks;
also, higher interest rate means a higher beta, which ultimately increases the
expected return of the asset. However, as Beta increases the risk of these asset
increases and rational agents will have to be rewarded for having an asset with higher
systematic risk.

A Creation For A Home For The Jewish People
Population movements are described as the repositioning of large, swaths of people
through the process of human migration. Shifts in a given population s demographic
is attributed to natural, behavioral or economic factors, i.e. victims of natural
disasters, refugee populations, and the relocation of people as a by product of
development projects. The creation of nations is a catalyst for population changes,
i.e. displacements and migrations. State building is at the core of population
movements through modernization, urbanization, industrialization and commercial

My argument in this paper is the qualitative consequences of Palestinian displacement

progression of hostilities into the 1948 War of Liberation.
On November 29, 1947, The United Nation General Assembly enacted Resolution
181 which dissolved the British Mandate of control over Palestine. UN Resolution
181 established a homeland for Jews dividing Palestine into two separate states, a
Jewish state and an Arab state. The UN Partition Plan was welcomed by the
displaced Jewish population, but the Arab community pre existing in Palestine
rejected the plan of partition. After UN General Assembly Resolution 181 was
implemented, a transitional period began within Palestine with the peace and
security compromised as a civil war broke out. On May 14, 1948, six months after
Resolution 181 went into effect and the British Mandate was no longer valid, the
World Zionist Organization (WZO) and the Jewish People s Council met at the Tel
Aviv Museum of Art in Tel Aviv, Israelwhere a unanimous approval of the Israeli
Declaration of Independence was proclaimed. The establishment of the State of Israel
was acknowledged by the United States and USSR within seventy two hours.
After the implementation of the Plan of Partition by the United Nation General
Assembly and the Hebrew Declaration of Independence, the Jewish population

The Electric Ant By Phillip K. Dick
The Electric Ant is a short story written by Phillip K. Dick. Penned in October of
1969, the story deals with the thought processes of a human like robot. The
protagonist is Garson Poole, a robot who has previously thought he is a human. There
are many points to ponder in the story, one of them being the similarities and
differences between human and robots. Are robots as fundamentally different as we
make them out to be or is it that we just haven t created the proper technology yet?
Conversely, maybe humans are essentially highly functioning robots? Although we
are not machines, our functioning can be highly mechanical. Additionally, Mr. Poole
speculates about the concept of reality and he experiments to discover if reality can
be altered.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hospital does not replace Mr. Poole s hand and he is instead lead to a
mechanical shop. He observes the technicians repairing his hand and proceeds to
do some of his own mechanical work on himself. He wants to find the matrix that
programs how he perceives the world and to see if he can change it. A feasible
motivation for Poole can be to transcend his status of a robot whose experiences
are pre programmed into a being that can observe on its own. He wants to live in
an unrestricted reality. After some research he discovers a tape that is being fed
into a scanner like mechanism deep within his chest. He concludes that this is
what controls his reality and he is torn about whether he should fiddle with it: Do I
want to interfere with the reality tape? And if so, why? Because, he thought, if I
control that, I control reality, at least so far as I m concerned. My subjective
reality... but that s all there is (Dick 387 388). Phillip Dick brings out a very strong
point here, My subjective reality... but that s all there is. While some say that there
is an objective reality, Poole was concluding that reality is relative to the individual.
In terms of perception, it can be difficult to believe in an objective reality because a
subjective reality can be proven. For example, the way we observe things can be
completely different than another person. A color blind person will often see things
in a different view then a

The Female Employer May Sue For Emotional Distress
The female employer may sue for emotional distress. Prior to suing, she must show
that she filed with the federal or state EEOC. Depending on her state, she may also
be required to file with her local Fair Employment Practices Agency (FEPA). The
female employer could file a Workers Compensation claim. In the Supreme Court
of Virginia. Ms Butler filed a workman s comp claim, Butler v. Southern States
Coop. Inc., __ Va. __, 620 S.E.2d 768 (Nov. 4, 2005), stating among other things,
her employer was responsible for the emotional distress when a co worker grabbed
her and tried to kiss her while conducting business duties. However Ms. Butler lost
her case, with the courts stating the workers compensation law does not cover
distress, due to sexual harassment. Workers Compensation is a law that
compensates employees when they are injured while working. A company with
three employees are less are usually exempt. The employee does not have to prove
it was the fault of the employer to receive the compensation. In workers comp
claims, the employer is not able to use contributory negligence, assumption of risk,
and the fellow servant rule to their defense. Also, the injury has to be work related.
Even if the accusation of sexual harassment could not be proven, the company
would not have been liable for Marwan s actions. Marwan was of a seniority
position, which exempts Studio Five from liability regarding sexual harassment. Had
Marwan been a non supervisory
Analysis Of Maus By Art Spiegelman
Have you ever thought of having a drastic change in your normal lifestyle, well the
graphic novel Maus written by Art Spiegelman, is a true story that follows the life of
a survivor of the Holocaust. The novel narrates the story of Vladek Spiegelman and
his family learning to cope with the transition of living under the Nazi influence. The
Spiegelman and the Zylberbergs now have to adapt to a life without luxury. Although
the Holocaustkilled a large number of Jews, Vladek was one of the few who survived
this tragedy. His knowledge, networking and multitasking ability had kept him and
his wife Anja alive during this horrible period of their lives. In the novel Vladek
showed how he used his knowledge to avoid any problematic circumstances with
the Kappo. He wisely built a relationship with the Kappo, gaining influence on the
concentration camp. Vladek s knowledge is evident in the concentration camp
when the Kappo asks Who knows English and Polish? Vladek raises his hand and
speaks English to the Kappo Yes, I gave private lessons of English when I lived
then in Czestochowa. His knowledge of english put him on a very good situation,
because he was able to teach the Kappo. He got more food, clothing, shoes, and
information of where to stand, so the S.S won t take him. (Spiegelman, 31 Vol.2) In
another occasion, Vladek was asked to fix a boot, he knew how to fix soles and
heels, but what the Gestapo requested, it needed a specialist. So going to work,

The Environmental Effects Of Roadside Littering
Each time person opens their email, it is full of advertisements, coupons, and shares
from friends. They must go through each email, and decide if it is trash. Some may
potentially harm their computer, others can infect it with a virus. This spam makes
their inbox, look like a cluttered mess. They must clean it up, but who wants to waste
time disposing of others trash? This is littering and the problem it creates. Littering
may seem harmless. One discarded item on the ground doesn t appear to have
devastating effects, but it can. Each new piece of trash, cigarette butt, and pop can
combine with thousands more. This littercollects on our roadsides, clogging sewers
and damages vehicles. Therefore, when a person litters someone must clean it up, it
does not just vanish on its own. Besides the aesthetic effects, this litter poses a threat
to the environment, property value and the overall moral of the community. Summer
tourism draws many people to the area, visiting the lakes and Cedar Point. A tourist
will not come to a community filled with filth. Especially when these tourists are here
to enjoy the outdoors, the lake and the environment, roadside litter will make them go
elsewhere. While community programs continue to have an impact on cleanup,
cleaning up doesn t solve the problem. Roadside litter continues to affect our area
along the roads, lakes, and parks. The problem of littering can be eliminated if higher
fines, better educational programs, and more public trash

Cognitive Psychology Definition Paper Introduction Cognitive Psychology/PSY360
Cognitive Psychology Definition Paper Cognitive psychology is the study of mental
processes surrounding learning, memory, perception, and thought. Though it is still a
relatively new formal branch of psychology, its roots extend back to Descartes who
sought a way to explain how the mind worked, proposing the analogy of a hydraulic
system of nerve function (Willingham, 2007, p. 26) after he observed animated
statues in Saint Germain en Laye. It has been the restless pursuit of not only the idea
of how the mind works but also what exactly constituted the mind that eventually led
to the foundations of cognitive theory. As psychologists examined how... Show more

The whole of an individual s behavior is found neither by observation only or an
examination of one s thoughts only, but a combination of the two. The observance of
behavior affords cognitive psychologists the ability to test and evaluate theories
about behaviors and the hypotheses developed from them. Self reporting can present
errors that can be confirmed or rejected through the use of behavioral observation
tested using empirical means. Additionally, cognitive psychologists cannot personally
observe and measure internal mental processes but in utilizing behavioral
observation, the cognitive psychologist can arrive at logical conclusions of the
existence of the behavior based on the observation of the behavior. In using the
accepted standard of behavioral procedures, cognitive psychologists are able to
examine the cognitive processes thought to be the source without inferring unproven
causes (Zentall, 2002). This removes much of the subjectivity that initially made the
cognitive perspective suspect. Cognitive psychology developed the framework to
test theories and further explain behavior using behavioral observation. Using the
scientific method, the theory predicts the behavior to be expected if the said theory
is provable. There are several steps to take in order to this. First, develop alternative
theories by having at least two possibilities to select from when

Abstract
Medical imaging is an essential aspect in several fields of biomedical engineering,
biomedical research and also in clinical practice especially in Operating Rooms and
Emergency Rooms. The analysis of all these imaging techniques (MRI, CT scans,
PET, X Rays) generally requires computerized quantification and advance
visualization tools. All the images that are obtained from diverse techniques carry

In fact, medical imaging made it possible to identify diverse abnormalities in humans.
These images can be obtained from Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (MRI), X Rays, Ultrasound, positron emission tomography
(PET), etc. Analyzing these images usually requires special programs and a user to
run the software. All the images that are obtained, using different techniques, contain
important and useful information for the physician to make a decision. MRIs are
widely used by physicians and
researchers due to their advantages over other medical imaging techniques.
Raymond Vahan Damadian created the MRI machine in 1977 after the discovery of
the X Ray, which was the first technique used to observe denser tissues such as
bones [1]. In the case of the MRI, it uses the alignment of the hydrogen atom, and
since human bodies are mostly composed of water this was a suitable approach.
A powerful superconducting solenoid that produces a strong magnetic field makes
the hydrogen atoms point in the direction of the magnet. Once this point is
reached, pulses of radio frequency are emitted by antennas that excite the nuclear
spin energy transition and an image is formed [1]. Since MRI is a non invasive
procedure (MRI does not use any ionizing radiation like X Rays) and the resulting
images are produced in a high resolution, it is preferable to work with DICOM
images from MRI. In
Should I Be An Avid Concert Goer And All Around Explorer
Growing up as a wanderess, one would think that I would have mastered the art of
clubbing. However, that couldn t be any further than the truth. While I might be an
avid concert goer and all around explorer, why would I ever engage in clubbing? I
don t drink and the thought of standing in a dark room with strangers with no
purpose seemed odd to me. Truthfully, the closest I have ever had to a clublike
experience would be the horrific house party of 12. Needless to say, that was enough
to cement my belief that it would be unenjoyable. Sitting around Friday afternoon
with no plans yet set in stone, suggesting that we go out for girls nightlater that
evening via group chat seemed perfectly normal. Bouncing ideas off each other, I
brought up the idea of wanting to check out a club. Apparently that caught everyone
off guard; instantly the conversation died and I was greeted with several phone calls
asking whether or not I was okay and how long I had left .
Anyone who knows me knows that while I may love concerts I simply view
clubbing as Prom minus chaperones. If you could not tell, I was not fond of the
idea of prom either and so opted out. It is not that I am prude of any sort but what
is the point of spending hours in line just to enter a dark room only to be grinded on
and groped by strangers?
Once I thoroughly reassured everyone that I was in my right state of mind,
preparations for that evening began. Frankly speaking I never realized how much

Theme Of Silence In Waiting For Godot
Postmodern literature depicts the degradation of human psyche and the struggle of
the man to find his identity after destruction that the World War II caused to the
humanity. The war ruined the human values and every human being had lost the
sense of moral and immoral. Harold Pinter s The Dumb Waiter and Samuel Becketts
Waiting for Godotbelong to the postmodern literary category that showcase in the
most comic and tragic way the pessimistic vision of humanity struggling vainly to

They both know that if one is silent is because he hides something. And this is mostly
when Gus makes important questions about the nature of their job, or their next

who controls his life, who is the next victim, why he is imprisoned in a dark room.
His questions are of existential character and silence serves as an identity crisis. Ben s
and Wilson s silence alienates Gus from the truth. The most important silence in the
play is at the end though. The play ends with Ben raising the revolver to Gus s head
while they stare at each other. This is the silence of punishment where Gus is
punished for questioning the authorities, punished for asking too many questions and
getting nearly to the truth. When the final silence fells over, both Gus and Ben share
emotions of anger, uncertainty, injustice and
How Cell Phones Changed Our Lives
All of the changes we as a society have adjusted to over the past few decades have
created revolutionary milestones for our everyday lifestyles and habits. Thanks to
these advancements, we are also given a glimpse of what our society may become
in the near and distant future. One of the most evolutionary aspects to today s
society is the cell phone. As of today, our society most definitely takes the idea of
cell phones for granted, since they are now so easily accessible and common. But
cell phones weren t nearly as useful and convenient to society decades ago.
Throughout the nearly seventeen years of my life, I have observed how much
society has improved technologically. How cell phones became such an important
part of our everyday lives is the idea that I am most curious about. Before
researching, I knew basic information about cell phones: how they were less
common years ago, and they were much bigger with extremely basic functions. I
wanted to expand my knowledge on this topic because cell phones are becoming
more essential for everyday work and/or tasks. I also wanted to know how one of
the most important and used devices of our generation came to be. Not only did I
want to explore the evolution of the cell phone, but I also wanted to research the
Apple Company more in depth as well. Their products have constantly and
successfully introduced and displayed revolutionary advancements to how society
views technology, especially when it comes to the cell phone. Music is my

USS Maine Explosion Analysis
Not until the Gulf of Tonkin Incident would a trigger to war be so scrutinized and
clouded in mystery as the destruction of the USS Maine. Over one hundred years
later there is still a debate over what caused the explosion on the Maine and
ultimately led the United States to war with Spain. The debate of the USS Maines
destruction is over whether the explosion came from inside the ship, the internal
explosion theory, or came from an outside the ship, the external explosion theory.
Most of these arguments are focused on the cause of the explosion, whether a fire
broke out on board or if a perpetrator, either the Spanish or Cuban rebels caused the
explosion. This paper will mainly focus on warning but also talk about the origin of
the explosion,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On top of this, there was a severe lack of dead fish in the bay area following the
explosion. If an external explosion sunk the Maine, then all the fish within 300
yards of the ship should have been dead. However, the distinct lack of dead fish
gives some, albeit not much, credence to the idea that it was an internal explosion
(Rickover 119). Along with the lack of dead fish, there is a distinct absence of
torpedo casings or mine remnants that can usually be found after these devices have
gone off. Again, like the lack of fish, this is not concrete evidence but more

On July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the The United States of America
proclaimed their independence from Great Britain and its king by virtue of the
Declaration of Independence. This was a result of many constituents expressed by
the colonies. One major revival that could be examined as a viable cause of this is
The Great Awakening. Government, social order, politics, and religion were all
factors in the colonies bout for independence. But how much of an impact did The
Great Awakening truly have on America in the independence and breaking away from
Great Britain to be its own country?
The Great Awakening, was a succession of religious revivals spanning from the 1720s
to the 1760s, that swept across the thirteen colonies, and with it its ideals and
doctrines. A theorized reason for the appeal of these revivalist principles was because
it cut across lines of class, race, gender, occupation, and education (Press). This would
further unite the colonies into a more common understanding of shared values, which
introduced the spread of mass communication in America as revivalists travelled the
colonies preaching to all. The thirteen colonies spread across a vast canvas of land,
and each with their own unique state, but the religious revivals of the eighteenth
century consolidated them with its reach of a lasting legacy that tolerated divergent
ideas, promoted religious pluralism, and the separation of the church and the state
(Press). These were all new concepts that were

Based on the census conducted in 1790, Delaware s population consisted of 50,209

low amount of slaves. As of the whole population including slaves, Delaware had a

Issues
A. Role of Government i. John Dickinson approved of the Articles of Confederation
since he had signed the document when he was part of Pennsylvania in 1776. When
the Articles of Confederation started to fall apart, Dickinson held the Annapolis
Convention in 1786. The goal of the Convention was to review the Articles. Many
Americans believed that a constitution could not function without the Articles of
Confederation. However, Mr. Dickinson thought that the Articles could be changed
without putting the government s functionality in jeopardy. At first, Delaware
refused to ratify the Articles of Confederation because the state wanted other states to
abandon their own land claims so that Delaware and other small states could approve
of the Articles. On February 1, 1779, Delaware finally accepted the conditions of the
Articles of Confederation. ii. John Dickinson specifically wanted a strong national
government because in the draft of the Articles of a Confederation, he included the
need for a central government. Many delegates supported his decision.
B. National Legislature i. Mr. Dickinson thinks that the representatives should

Frank Stella s Inspiration Versus What You See Is What You See
Frank Stella is an Abstract Expressionist and Minimalist artist who is known for
several elements of his painting style such as his shaped canvases and his famous
saying what you see is what you see. In the mid 1960 s, Stella created a series of
paintings, the Protractor Series, which are prominent for their semi circle shaped
canvases that resemble a protractor. Despite Stella s popular motto, what you see is
what you see, Stella did, in fact, have an inspiration for his famous masterpiece.
Frank Stella created beautiful, simple paintings on canvas often using polymer
paint. Very commonly, Stella s paintings were depicted on shaped canvases like his
Protractor Series were painted on semi circle shaped canvases. Stella had some more
works, Irregular Polygons, that were composed on shaped canvases as well, like the
ones listed below.

Although Frank Stella is known for his abstract attitude and motto what you see is

that can easily catch the eye is the variety of different hues he chose and the
intertwining pathways of color. Prior to creating this artwork, Frank Stella traveled to

The Importance Of Student Cognitive Development
As I consider my interpersonal, intrapersonal, and cognitive development, I find that
my collegiate career reflects the themes emphasized in Student Connectedness
Theory. According to the interpersonal component of this theory, students rely on
various sources of people before making decisions, such as their parents, family
relatives, professors, mentors, guidance counselors, friends, or community. However,
when studentsreceive mixed messages about a particular decision, the student
becomes unsure of what to do next. In this case, students will often turn to the person
or persons they feel most connected to. Furthermore, when students transition into the
collegeenvironment, their vulnerability makes connections particularly important, as
they look for someone who will validate and support them throughout their collegiate
careers. When thinking about all the support I had during high school from my
parents, guidance counselors, friends, or community to enroll in college after
graduating, it seemed as if college was the only option that was available to me.
However, the mixed messages I received from my support networks about which
institution to attend, made things overwhelming and confusing. Once I began my
collegiate career at Felician, my interpersonal development had also played an
important role in the relationships I formed with different people. For instance, the
outgoing friend I had met during orientation was crucial to helping me come out of

North Carolina State University s Environmental...
Introduction During this semester I traveled with the North Carolina State
University s Environmental Technology and Management program ET 201 class,
under the direction of Dr. Teresa Litzenberger, to Little Rock Creek in Raleigh
North Carolina. Little Rock Creek is a small stream located in southeast raleigh
near the Walnut Creek Wetland Center. Located in a watershed of approximately
705.879 acres, the creek looks like an upside down uppercase L from a map
perspective. The creek floor is sandy with a few small rocks (cobblestone) in areas.
The streamhas plenty of tree cover to provide shade. However, the lack of large
trees encourages the curves in the creek to widen which allows the water to slow
down and create pools throughout the creek. According to Title 15A of the North
Carolina Administrative Code, Rule .0302 contains the classifications for waters
located within the Neuse River Basin (15A NCAC 02L .0312). Little Rock Creek,
however, is not classified and therefore follows Rule .0301 which simply states that it
should carry the classification of the stream to which it is a tributary (.
Assessment and Methodology The Rapid Stream Assessment Technique (RSAT) uses
data measured in the field to determine a stream s condition. These data fields include
channel stability, channel scouring or sediment deposition, physical instream habitat,
water quality, riparian habitat conditions, and biological indicators of
macroinvertebrates. The RSAT ranking for each
What Are Barriers to Entry
1
Q. Using suitable examples define barriers to entry. Explain how barriers to entry
affect our firm s profits. Before a firm can compete in a market, it has to be able to
enter it. Many markets have at least some impediments that make it more difficult for
a firm to enter a market. A debate over how to define the term barriers to entrybegan
decades ago, however, and it has yet to be won. Some scholars have argued, for
example, that an obstacle is not an entry barrier if incumbent firms faced it when they
entered the market. Others contend that an entry barrier is anything that hinders entry
and has the effect of reducing or limiting competition. A number of other definitions
have been proposed, but none of them has emerged as a clear ... Show more content

particular industry and which have little or no resale value; money spent on
advertising / marketing / research which cannot be carried forward into another
market or industry. When sunk costs are high, a market becomes less contestable.
High sunk costs (including exit costs) act as a barrier to entry of new firms (they
risk making huge losses if they decide to leave a market). A good example of
substantial sunk costs occurred in 2001 when British Telecom announced it was
scrapping its lossmaking joint venture with US telecoms firm AT T. The closure
was estimated to lead to the loss of 2,300 jobs almost 40% of Concert s workforce.
And, it will cost BT $2bn in impairment charges and restructuring costs, and AT T
$5.3bn. Profits and losses signal the existence of excess supply or demand (Mueller,
1986; Stigler, 1963).1 When firms are free to respond to these signals, they enter and
exit markets until risk adjusted returns are equalized across markets. However,
because of entry barriers, this normalization may not obtain, at least in the short run.
For this reason, barriers to entry directly impact a firm s current and future
profitability. Moreover, the over time effect of barriers to entry on profitability
impacts the assumptions incorporated into forecasting and valuation models. In
analysing firm profitability, it is

A Historical Overview of the Death Camp
The Holocaust is one of the most horrifying crimes against humanity. quot;Hitler, in
an attempt to establish the pure Aryan race, decided that all mentally ill, gypsies, non
supporters of Nazism, and Jews were to be eliminated from the German population.
He proceeded to reach his goal in a systematic scheme. quot; (Bauer, 58) One of his
main methods of exterminating these undesirables was through the use of
concentration and death camps. In January of 1941, Adolf Hitler and his top officials
decided to make their final solution a reality. Their goal was to eliminate the Jews and

These camps were set up along railroad lines so that the prisoners would be
conveniently close to their destination. Unfortunately, many prisoners didn t even
survive the train ride to the camps. Herded like cattle, exhaustion, disease, and
starvation ended the long treacherous journey for many of the prisoners. On the
trains, Jews were starved of food and water for days. Nearly 8% of the people did not
even survive the ride to the camps. (Nyiszli, 37)
When they arrived at the camps, most of the families who were shipped out together,
ended up being separated. Often, the transports were a sampling of what went on in
the camps: cruelty by the officers, near starvation of those being transported, as well
as fetid and unsanitary conditions. For the people who survived the trip, it was just
the beginning of the living nightmare that they would face inside the walls of
Auschwitz.
Jews were forced to obey the guards orders from the moment they arrived at the
camps. quot;If they didn t, they would be beaten, put into solitary confinement, or

Therapy Dogs
We always say, Dog is the best friend of human, but how many of us know the
history of human canine relation and things that dogs have done for us? Maybe the
one who truly loves dogs will know about these. There is no exactly record about
how dogs came into our lives, but dogs have worked for human for the last ten to
twenty thousand years. Although many dogs work for human, it is not ethical to
treat every kind of animals as property. The animals are first independent living
things, then they are workers for human. Just like human, none of the employers
would treat their employees as property, because every one of us is equal. Working
for someone does not mean that we are worse than anyone else. One of our
misunderstanding to animals is that we always think we are better than animals
mentally, but in fact, animals can feel, sense, and think more than human. Gus, a
therapy dogthat is mentioned in the reading Therapy Dogs, can sense the voice of
loneliness of the patient and immediately knows the patient needs his company,

Misbehaving here means that doing something that will hurt the others. Animals
work for us for surviving and loving the companies with human, and this does not
mean that animals should finish everything we ask them to do perfectly. When
animals misbehave, we should let them know about their mistakes by punishing
them in ways that will not harm them physically, like stop giving them snacks. We
should also show our praise when they have done a good job. Animals work for
human, but human should not breed them for personal gains, like greyhound and

Case Study On Smart Watches
I decided to write my case study about the smart watches, because this is a new
expanding market and people do not know much about these devices. The
smartwatch is a wearable computing device, that people wear it on their wrist.
From outside it is similar to a wristwatch but from inside it is more like a
smartphone. It provides a lot of features that we can do with a smartphone, we can
connect these to gadget to each other in order to make our life easier. But when did
these small devices started to extend?
People started to imagine what could they do with their wristwatch in the 1940s, we
can see intelligent watches in movies like Drick Tracy or Star Trek in the 1940, but
then it was just a fantasy. The first big step on the way to the smartwatches was the
introduction of the so called Pulsar watch in 1972. It has lasted for 20 years to
develop this digital watch and the American Hamilton Watch Companyhas debuted
with it. The quartz watches mean an enormous threat to the traditional watch
industry. These watches were much cheaper and more precise than mechanical ones.
From that time watches started to be more complex and electric. ... Show more

Casio and Seiko has also joined to Intel and began to produce wristwatches with
built in databases, dictionaries, blood pressure sensors, touch screens and even

not so big. That is why the market of quartz watches did not start to fall. Swiss
watchmakers were reluctant to these changes but they recognized if they wanted to
keep step with the world, they had to fulfill the needs of the consumers, and they
wanted quartz watches, they created the Swatch brand. Now it belongs to the World s

Detroit s Real Estate Market
The racial undertones of Detroit have been extremely problematic to Detroit s real
estate market for well over 50 years. These social disruptions continue to have an
effect on the current residents of Detroit. During the middle of the nineteenth century,
the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) introduced real estate tactics such as
redlining, which is the practice of flagging minority dense neighborhoods for the
purposes of denying approval of mortgages or inflating the price of the homes.
Redlining had a profound social and economic effect on all residents of Detroit. The
white majority began abandoning and selling their homes in fear that the value of the
home would plummet, leading to a great financial loss when minorities moved in the
area. This idea is known as white flight, and is the primary reason that Detroit has one
of the highest African American populations in the country. However, through
revitalization and gentrification of the Midtown/Downtown area, Detroit is slowly
becoming more diverse. Throughout history, racial politics of the mid to late
twentieth century affected Detroit s real estate market by excluding minorities from
the real estate market. Although adding stadiums, high end retail, small shops, and
restaurants is economically valuable to the city of Detroit, this is conflicting and
potentially problematic for the original residents of the area because the prices of
these new establishments are often much higher than the residents can afford.
Theory Of Teaching And Learning
Theory of Teaching and Learning Part 1. What I Believe about Teaching and Learning
It is my opinion that conventional teaching strategies cannot meet the requirements of
the classroom environment. First, the classroom environment has been culturally
diversified. Second, not all students have similar capabilities or work at the same rate
even if they are of the same age. Third, each student has their own learning style. In
addition, some students do not react well to the conventional strategies of teaching
and, as a result, there is a lack of learning (Heimlich Norland, 2002, p. 18). A
Constructivist teaching environment affords more opportunties for both teachers and
students, and makes learning more efficient and effective. The Montessori teaching
technique is one of the best techniques because of its eight fundamental principles
(Lillard, 2005, p. 29). These principles include: The premise that cognition and
movement are closely interrelated, and that movement can improve cognition and
learning in students. It also holds that the process of learning and well being are
enhanced when an individual or student has some degree of control over their lives.
Individuals learn well when they develop an interest in what they are being taught.
The technique also holds that associating learning activities with a certain reward
such as monetary rewards and promises for better grades, adversely affects the
learning process and negatively motivates the students to learn

Several years ago, the company set out to create a Cost Accounting Center of
Excellence . The initial development of the project was at the request of the Chief
Financial Officer the executive sponsor. The main goals set for the team concentrated
on harmonizing the ways of working for all manufacturing facilities in The United
States, centralize the execution of the cost accounting function, and reduce
administrative costsassociated with performing the cost accounting function. The team
structure included a Steering Committee comprised of the Chief Accountant, Director
of Business Excellence, and a Business Group Controller (i.e. Stakeholder). The
Steering Committee provided the oversight and guidance of the core team
responsible for executing the vision set forth in the project charter. This structured
design represented a formal group. A formal group is, by definition, formed by a
manager to assist the organization to accomplish its goals [Kinicki Fugate, p.227].
Due to the technical nature of the subject matter, the Steering Committee delegated
significant latitude and a high level of autonomy to the core team in performing the
tasks assigned. As a result, the team proceeded, in several respects, as a self managed
team given administrative oversight for the domain tasks [Kinicki Fugate, p.240].
The core team consisted of cost accountants, technical accountants, IT specialists, and
manufacturing personnel. This cross functional team used the complementary skills to
Aristotelian Essentialism Flaws
11/5/2015 Rover and Clover: a Flaw in Essentialist Thought Aristotelian essentialism
is a metaphysical school of thought that speaks on how one discerns the nature of an
object or a group of objects. The school of thought has had many attackers since its
inception in the 1960?s but one of the strongest attacks against it was developed by
Marjorie S. Price in her 1977 paper titled: Identity through Time. In his paper Price
develops a thought experiment that revolves around a dog undergoing immense
physical changes over time until the dog is no longer recognizable. Price uses her
thought experiment to highlight a discrepancy in the Aristotelian essentialist concept
of essence, an idea which makes up the foundation of essentialist theory. To... Show

For the Aristotelian essentialist?s views to have any merit they need to either
redefine the basic principles of the thought experiment itself, or develop methods
of defining essence that can hold up despite significant physical changes. It is
simply much easier and more logical to say that the theory of essence does not hold
at all. If one were to assume the existence of essence, they would be creating
categories for objects that are too rigid. Even the earlier example of humanness is
subject to extensive consideration, for there are many people in comas or on life
support in hospitals who lack the ability to reason or to even be conscious about
their surroundings but many people still consider them to be human. So if reason is
not a key factor in humanity, what else could be ?key? factors? If reason is not the
primary consideration for humanity, other mental capabilities cannot be considered
viable classifications either, so essence would have to come down to something
biological or chemical such as chromosomes or the like. But can essence really be
tied to something that significant? If so, what are the parallel hallmarks of essence in
an inanimate object? The entire concept of essence builds off of weak definitions and
vague identifiers which simply do not tolerate advanced examination, meaning
Conflict In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy play written by William Shakespeare in the year
1591. The plot is mainly based on an Italian tale which narrates about a pair of
young star cross d lovers whose feuding families are the main obstacle to their
marriage, to which their death leads to the end of their parents strife to one another.
Although it is very ancient and historical, the masterpiece has withstood the
considerable test of time and still remains popular today. Romeo and Juliet has been
studied and taught worldwide in schools, universities, and other famous educational
institutions. The play has also been reproduced thousands of times on television, film,

R J fits this criteria because there are multiple conflicts to each other which have
connections with one another and makes the story interesting and more exciting. For
example, the love game where Romeo loves Rosaline, but Rosaline loves Paris, but
Paris loves Juliet, and finally the cat and mouse game ends with Juliet loving Romeo
and Romeo turns from Rosaline to love Juliet. Another example of an interesting
conflict is the unknown love at the party when Romeo meets Juliet. At the party,
Juliet sees Romeo and Romeo sees Juliet, and loving each other at first sight . Only
until Juliet finds out that Romeo is a Montague and things get complicated from this
point. Another excellent example of a double conflict that makes it more exciting is a
fight where Tybalt kills Mercutioand Romeo kills Tybalt in retaliation and he runs
away from the city before the Prince comes and tells that he is banished from the city.
Dracula satisfied my criteria because the piece has a very exciting and unusual
conflict, which makes the story more interesting in a way and by incorporating an
exciting mysterious setting to the conflict of the story that makes the readers feel
that even though location in the story has changed, but it still feels like all of the
good characters are all on the run from Dracula and Dracula will turn the protagonist
s friends and families, one by one, into vampires like him and makes the conflict
more intense and interesting to read. A great example of this is that Jonathan
Harker, the main protagonist of the story realizes that Dracula is not human but
suffers from a vampire induced fever so he can t go back to England to warn
everybody In time. It is a double conflict Harker can t go anywhere as he is too sick
from the fever, and he knows that there is a danger approaching England but he can t
do anything about it. Even though Dracula s genre and R J s genre are different, they
The Mexican Reforma
The liberal ideas changed throughout the Mexican Reforma in many ways. The
constitution of 1857 declared freedom of speech, press, and assembly; limited
fueros; denied ecclesiastical and civil corporations to own land; and affirmed the
sanctity of private property. (211) This constitution revived the federalist structure
of 1824 and replaced the bicameral national legislature with a sole house. In
addition, it eradicated the office of vice president. (211) We proclaim ideas and
forget realities, is what Ponciano Arriaga said. He complained How can a hungry,
naked, miserable people practice popular government? How can we condemn slavery
in words, while the lot of most of our fellow citizens is more grievous than that of

Thelma And Louise
Ridley Scott is trying to suggest that women are so boxed in by oppression that
their only option is suicide. Here is a comment made the unexpected ending of 1991
drama film Thelma and Louise directed by Ridley Scott. It all begins when naive
housewife Thelma joins her friend Louise , an independent waitress, on a short
fishing trip. However, who d have thought their trip would become a flight from the
law when Louise shoots and kills a man who tries to rape Thelma. They had no faith
in the criminal justicesystem s ability to give them a fair trial because they are
women that s why. Therefore their only option was to flee the country. If we had
understood the director s purpose, we could ve avoided falling to our knees when
these two, beloved protagonists drive off the Grand Canyon to their deaths. After all,
knowing the ending would not make it unexpected, since the director s intention is
for the audience... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

not only foreshadows the ending of the film for the audience but misleads the
audience to think Thelma and Louise are capable of escaping even death. Not only
it doesn t prepare you for their intentional deaths in the end, but it also deludes you
to assume that good faith is entailing them to survive life. This mishap creates a
realistic ending as it suggests that destiny is not fully controllable, which is a flaw
many individuals in our society decline to accept. Therefore this event fabricates a
realistic ending as it gives a pragmatic message which advocates that fate is
Understanding Gerlad s Writings
Giraldus Cambrensis, known more commonly as Gerald of Wales, was a complex
mix of nationalities far greater than his name implies. Understanding Gerlad s
writings of The History and Topography of Ireland and The Journey Through Wales
and the Description of Wales can only be done when analyzed in context. It is vital
to evaluate how his diverse background and calculated reasons for the descriptions of
the Welsh and Irish peopleinfluenced his writing. And furthermore, it is imperative to
use Gerald s writings to consider if his writings accurately reflect English attitudes of
Ireland and Wales.
Interpreting Gerald and determining if his writings reflected views of the English
is not a simple answer. To answer the question, Gerald himself must be categorized.
While being one quarter Welsh from his grandmother, a Princess of Wales, he had
a variety of life experiences that classify him as something else (Gransden 160).
He studied in France, at the University of Paris making him highly educated and
well traveled for the time (Clarke 98). In addition to this he was also a Cambro
Norman Archdeacon of Brecon, a Welsh title for an ecclesiastical officer of the
Church and had ties to the Norman wave of immigrants in Wales (Gransden 160). In
addition, politically speaking, his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the account of (the) way of confirming kingship and dominion (in Ulster) (Gerald of

Ulster, confirmation of kingship establishes that the Irish have a ritualistic type
religion in the area. This implied lack of religion furthers the idea for the Cambro
Normans to conquer the people for their own religious well being and bring them into
Christianity. (Ironically, the Irish had had a longer standing Christian/Catholic

Midterm Exam
Part 1: #1 Through various sources from the past, it was relatively easy to determine
the overall perception towards Africans that dominated much of the 19th and 20th
centuries. During these times, Africans were seen as primitive and savage. They
were inferior and less evolved in comparison tot heir Western counterparts. For the
most part, they believed that Africans had made little, if any, progress since some
humans left the continent and established themselves in other parts of the world.
While this viewpoint may seem ludicrous to most modern people, Westerners actually
based their claims on various theories. A major theory used to promulgate this
viewpoint was the concept of Social Darwinism. This theory holds that human
beings, like other organisms, ares subject to the concepts natural selection and
survival of the fittest (kiem article). Social Darwinism was readily employed as
justifications to why Africans were inferior, and had slipped behind in the race
towards progress (connah 1). They had stopped developing a long time ago, and, as a
result, continued to live in savagery. Africawas the past, and the Western worldwas
the present and future. Research at the time did little to abate African stereotypes.
Research mainly served the purpose of studying human evolution rather than the
place...[because it is] merely a backdrop to studies pertaining to how Western culture
has managed to establish itself as superior
Kill Shelter Vs Animal Shelter Research Paper
This is chapter two of my pet abandonment book and it is about the debate between
kill vs no kill shelters. First you should know that no kill shelters don t actually
mean no kill, it means that only up to 10% of the animals in their stock can be
killed anything over that and it is a kill shelter. Many people argue over if no kill
shelters are better than kill shelters and vice versa but I have read many articles
about this topic and I can give you the worldwide opinion. NO KILL SHELTERS
No kill shelters don t accept all animals and are somewhat picky on what kind of
pets they pick up. These pets go into the shelter and will most likely not get killed by
humans, and later on it might have people pass by it until another animal

Mountain Climbers Research Paper
Should climbers be entitled to rescue services on a mountain? When people are
climbing mountains such as Mount Everest or Mount Rainier they know what kind
of danger they are placing themselves in. Many people think that because the
services exist they can abuse it and call for help at any time. Even though these
services exist they should only be used in a crisis, because more people than one
climber are being put at risk. As the mountainsgrow in popularity more people want
to travel to them. Many companies are going in debt because of climbers who think
they know what they are doing when they do not. Furthermore, the reason some
people have for needing rescued are ridiculous. These are three main topics as to
why climbers should not be entitled to a rescue. To start off, people who climb places
such as Mount Everestand Mount Rainier put more than themselves at risk. Many
will argue that this is the reason rescue services exist. Although that is true, they were
created for crisis situations. For example, in Source 3 a park ranger on Mount... Show

In Source 1 they talk about the prices of certain equipment, one of which being
helicopters. It says in the article that in order to fly at those altitudes you have to
have a special type of helicopter. Which happens to cost approximately two million
dollars to construct. If rescue services are called for a climber and a helicopter has
to be used they are putting two million dollars on the line. A climber may be at a
high altitude and need rescue for a decision that went wrong, so the rescue services
would send a helicopter to try and export the climber. The high altitudes can cause a
pilot to lose control of the helicopter and crash. Which two million dollars for one
person is a lot of money to spend for just an attempt at rescue. Costs like this add on
to the fact that climbers should not be entitled to a
Ethnic Minorities in America Essay
Ethnic Minorities in America
In the United States the term minority often infers membership within an ethnic or
cultural minority group. However, this term also encompasses other groups that lack
equality, such as women, homosexuals and people with disabilities. By definition, the
hearing majority classifies Deaf people as minorities because of their inability to hear.
Yet linguists and social scientists argue that the basis of Deaf people s status as a
minority group is not one of disability, but as a cultural and linguistic minority (Lane,
Hoffmeister and Bahan: 1996: 335 6). In order to assert that Deaf people are a
linguistic and cultural minority in America the characteristics of a minority group
must first be defined. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Humphrey and Alcorn, 1995: 85)
Unequal treatment and the lack of power are phenomena Deaf people have endured
throughout time because of their inability to hear. Historically hearing people
viewed deafness as a defect of the mind and body and they did not afford the Deaf
the right to an education, own property or sign contracts.
Deaf people have long been subjugated by hearing people in all areas of life. The
most blatant act of audism occurred in the education of Deaf children. From 1880
until today hearing people have dictated that the method of education utilized
should be one that enables the Deaf to more readily assimilate into the mainstream
society. In order to achieve this goal, Deaf children were forced to wear auditory
trainers (machines that supposedly allowed them to listen to teachers voices) and
were slapped with rulers if they attempted to sign or gesture out of frustration.
(Graybill video) The focus of Deaf education was not about teaching Deaf children
material appropriate to grade level but altering behavior and improving speech
ability. Even with such an antagonistic environment the Deaf were forced into
obtaining an education but for what means? Until 1880 many Deaf people worked as
teachers of the Deaf, but after the Milan Conference of 1880, which decreed that all
instruction of Deaf be done through spoken language, Deaf teachers were terminated
and forced into menial labor. Even with the increased
Culture In Japanese Culture
Culture is a significant theme in this film. One important factor to point out is
throughout Stevenson s trip in Japan, he is hit with culture shock and the same can
be said for the Japanese executives. Stevenson mocks how the Japanese exchange
business cards during the presentation, how they eat with chopsticks and how rigid
and structured Japanese cultureis. This culture clash not only affected the characters
personal lives, but also impacted the business. Research has clearly established that
culture affects the application of managementtheories and practices. Work values, in
particular, are an important part of cross cultural understanding in that they are
themselves measures of cultural dimensions, and also have strong implications for
many areas of management, from employee motivation to organizational
communication (Matić, 2008). Almost immediately after opening up the doors to
the plant, there were problems. The Japanese people had a very strict and rigid
way of running their businesses and doing their work as compared to the
lackadaisical American work ethic. The plant workers are expected to perform
calisthenics in the morning, are denied basic privileges like sick leave, paid overtime
and a union. The town and these workers are in such a desperate situation that they
decide to withstand the abuse and impossible demands set by the Japanese plant
owners. It is difficult enough to manage a business with workers and executives that
have a common culture and
Early Childhood Phonemic Awareness
Often when we hear phonemic awareness we think of phonics. Phonemic awareness
does not involve phonics or written print, but instead spoken words. Understanding
that words we speak are made up of individual sounds called phonemes is the basis of
understanding phonemic awareness. Phonemes are the smallest units of spoken
languageand combine to form syllables and words (Ehri, Nunes, Willows, Dale,
Schuster, Yaghoub Zadeh, Shanahan 2001). Phonemic awareness is both a predictor
of reading achievement and the beginning of reading acquisition (Warren, Minnick,
Warren, Russell, Liqin, Green, 2013). When children develop phonemic awareness,
they can use letter sound knowledge to understand words (Koutsoftas, Harmon, Gray,
2009). Children... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As mentioned earlier an important topic that has been through multiple studies is,
knowing when and how much phonemic awareness materials to teach. Once again
the ability to focus on and manipulate phonemes in spoken words is phonemic
awareness (Warren et al., 2013). Preschoolers do not focus on the meaning of speech
but rather simply use language as their way of communication (Warren et al., 2013).
Children this age would be considered having little ability to succeed within the realm
of phonemic awareness (Warren et al., 2013). Without having any phonemic
awareness instruction a beginning reader or kindergartener would have an
understanding of phonemes (Warren et al., 2013). As children get older and into first
grade they are normally developing readers. This suggests that phonemic awareness
instruction would have the greatest impact being introduced to preschoolers or
kindergarteners (Warren et al.,
Political Climate of the 1970s Paper
The 1970s for the United States of America was a time of recession, war and a world
famous government scandal. The war in Vietnam left the people of the nation in
disarray and turmoil. The government took a great deal of abuse from the people with
the decisions made during the Vietnam War. President Nixon attempted different
strategies than used before to end the VietnamWar with little success. The public s
image of the government was distorted when the Watergate Scandal was made public
and Richard Nixonwas the first president to resign in U.S. history. The 1970s was a
challenging time for the people of the nation and the faith the country had in the
government diminished. By the end of the Vietnam War the social outcome of the

The people saw how dirty the politicians can be and lost a great deal of respect for
the government. The Watergate Scandal displayed criminal acts which involved
the President and high ranking officials. The after effects showed the balance shift
from the Republican to the Democratic Party with the voters. Most of the voters
were disgusted with Nixon s actions and leaned to the Democratic Party for
restructuring. The Watergate Scandal also led to the people blaming the
government of other issues like inflation, recession and energy cost. The story of
Watergate is a complex and deep one full of intrigue and back room deals, public
politics and personal motivations (Evans, 2002). The people of the nation
witnessed President Nixon abuse the power of presidency and his actions plague
the political practices to this day. In conclusion, the 1970s were a time in history
that will be remembered for many years to come. The Vietnam War was full of
controversy and frustrated the American pride the country obtained after World War
II. The colleges in the U.S. were a popular location for anti war protestors and even
resulted in the death of several students. The draft was in full effect and created draft
dodgers which mostly fled to Canada to escape the war. Many Americans felt our
military should not have even been in Vietnam, but the government feared the

Chekhov s Portrayal of Women

The stories of Anton Chekhov mark a focal moment in European fiction. This is the
point where 19th realist caucus of the short stories started their transformation into
modern form. As such, his work straddles two traditions. The first is that of the anti
romantic realism which has a sharp observation of external social detail. It has human
behavior conveyed within tight plot. The second is the modern psychological realism
in which the action in typically internal and expressed in associative narrative that is
built on epiphanic moments. In consideration of the two sides, Chekhov developed
powerful personal styles that presage modernism without losing traditional frills of
the form. This essay will discuss the Chekhov s portrayal of women.
Chekhov in The Name Day Party focuses on Olga and her relationship with her
husband, Chekhov appreciation for women is portrayed (Finke, 2005). Chekhov s
work maintains a continuity of appreciation for the endurance and humaneness of
women in the face of afflicted and patriarchal prejudice that fits in this feminist
oriented era. Chekhov, though not liberal or conservative politically have rejected all
theories that generalize about life. Chekhov instead has put his faith in the people.
On another case, the central female characters in The Lady with the Dog have been
portrayed in comparable manner. Dmitri s wife and Anna are portrayed in same light.

Literary Devices In Easter 1916
W.B. Yeat s poem, Easter 1916, details the speaker s feelings of Nationalism and
heartache as he remembers those that he lost in the Easter Rising. As the speaker
reflects on the time before the rising, he remembers not only how his life has
changed but also how his friends and companions had transformed both in their
character and in their state of being. The speaker uses metaphors to visualize the
unchanging goal of Irish freedom and the coming of nights that bring about death
and heartache. In this analysis, I will be focusing on the first and last stanzas of the
poem. By comparing these two stanzas I will reflect on the literary devices used, as
well as the differences of the speaker s visuals from the beginning and end. Overall,
the speaker... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker ends the stanza with But lived where motley is worn / All changed,
changed utterly: / A terrible beauty is born (Yeats 15 17). The literal meaning of
this stanza is that the speaker of the poem and the people he acquainted himself
with lived and wore motley or patched clothing a jester wears. The metaphorical
meaning of this is that motley is the vehicle for the tenor of life, meaning that it
was comical in the fact that it had little substance or value. This changed when the
terrible beauty was born. To describe beauty as terrible is an oxymoron, which can
be interpreted as the discordance between these two words and what they mean.
Within the context of the poem, the terrible beauty could be the goal of Irish
freedom and Irish men and women willing to fight and die for their country. Just as
love can cause pain, the beauty that is formed through Nationalism and loyalty to
their country can cause suffering to its people. The beauty can also be taken as the
value that was gained from fighting for what they believed in compared to living
meaningless lives before the war. The terrible aspect to this is that people had to die
in order for life to have meaning for

Table Of Contents For Essay. Sample table of contents for thesis - thesiscompleted.web.fc2.com

  • 1. Table Of Contents For Essay Creating an essay on the topic "Table of Contents for Essay" might seem deceptively simple at first glance, but delving into the intricacies of this seemingly straightforward task can unveil its inherent complexities. The challenge lies not only in articulating the basic structure of a table of contents but also in providing insightful commentary on its significance within the broader context of essay writing. To begin with, one must grapple with the concept of a table of contents itself, understanding its role as a roadmap for readers and a snapshot of the essay's organizational framework. The writer needs to consider various types of essays – from academic research papers to creative compositions – and analyze how the structure of their table of contents might differ based on the specific requirements of each genre. Navigating the fine line between conciseness and informativeness poses another hurdle. A well- crafted table of contents should offer a clear overview without divulging too much detail, striking a balance that sparks the reader's interest while maintaining an element of suspense regarding the essay's content. Furthermore, the essay must address the evolving landscape of digital media and its impact on traditional table of contents formats. With the rise of online publications and multimedia essays, the writer needs to explore how the conventional table of contents adapts to these changing mediums, considering hyperlinks, interactive elements, and multimedia integration. Assembling a comprehensive discussion on the topic also involves an exploration of the cultural and historical aspects of table of contents. How has the approach to organizing information in this manner evolved over time? What cultural nuances influence the expectations and conventions surrounding a table of contents in different academic and literary traditions? In conclusion, tackling the essay on "Table of Contents for Essay" demands a nuanced understanding of both the practical and theoretical aspects of this seemingly mundane element of academic and creative writing. The writer must navigate through the complexities of structure, information presentation, and the evolving nature of media to provide a well-rounded analysis. For those seeking assistance with essays or similar academic tasks, a variety of resources are available. Services like HelpWriting.net offer a platform where individuals can order custom essays, receive guidance on writing techniques, and explore a myriad of topics within the realm of academic writing. Whether it's delving into the nuances of table of contents or addressing broader essay-writing challenges, such platforms provide valuable support for those navigating the intricate landscape of academic writing. • 2. Blinker Broken Essay It seems fitting to tell the story that forced me to take a look at how I approached being offended and what I understood about forgiveness. I have never been fond of traffic. I am even less fond of rude and inconsiderate drivers. Since I was a commuter I drove at least 100 miles a day just to get to and from work. I found plenty of opportunities to get angry and take driving mistakes personally. I took the same route from work to the freeway everyday. You saw many of the same people, most of them strangers, but now faces that I saw every day. There was a man who every day ,at the same intersection, turned from the center lane and drove through the turn lane illegally with no signal and no warning. Cars honked. People were run off the road ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the day came I quickly turned into the proper lane and followed. The longer I had to follow the more the anger built up. It was 45 miles later when he turned into a gas station. He didn t use his blinker so I had to make a quick turn around. I leaped out of my car and my voice was most certainly louder than probably necessary. Hey, is your blinker broken? No. Sir, at the intersection of 2700 South and 600 you routinely turn from the middle lane, completely cross the turning lane and to make your turn. Cars honk, I have seen at least 3 have to go off the road to avoid collision and even here you did not use your blinker. This needs to stop. His reply surprised me a bit and was twice as loud. Lady, if you followed me, that is stalking and I am going to report you. It was just like pouring gasoline on a fire. I blew up. I marched back to my truck, with gusto and wrote down my name and contact information. Then I put on my best professional voice. I look forward to speaking with the officer. I am sure he will be grateful to get a full account of why I needed to follow you. I am sure he will be most interested. I clickety clacked back to my truck and fumed all the way
  • 3. Macroeconomic Variables Of The Stock Market Executive Summary The belief of macroeconomic variables influencing the stock market has been a highly debated discussion for the past decades. There has been no clear conclusion whether or not macroeconomic variables impact the stock market or inversely. The importance of this study have been increasingly critical as not only stock agents find the critical importance but the government to implement macroeconomic policy; the solid finding of this relation will enable policy makers to efficiently and effectively control the economy as well as the capital market. We aim to cover some relationship between macroeconomic indicators, including consumption, interest rate unemployment rate and inflation rate, and with stock price. Stock price or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, the correlation between consumption growth and stock returns is higher than average due to the high total wealth. Consequently, it is possible to see a positive correlation between the consumption and stock return (Li and Zhong 2010) Stock price or return and interest rate The interest rate controlled by the Federal Reserve has a significant role in influencing the consumers and firms consumption and investment behaviors. This as a result indirectly affects the stock market. McCue and Kling (1994) claimed that US the fluctuation in the nominal interest rate has affected approximately 36% or higher in terms of the fluctuation real asset returns. Assuming rationality, this is because a decrease in interest rates to investors will decrease opportunities to make income from investments. The model that best supports the correlation between stock return and interest rate is the capital asset pricing model as shown in appendix A (Hoe 2002, p. 140). The interest rate is embedded in Beta which captures the systematic risks; also, higher interest rate means a higher beta, which ultimately increases the expected return of the asset. However, as Beta increases the risk of these asset increases and rational agents will have to be rewarded for having an asset with higher systematic risk. Stock price or return and

My argument in this paper is the qualitative consequences of Palestinian displacement by Resolution 181 facilitated the Palestine civil war of 1947 which stimulate the progression of hostilities into the 1948 War of Liberation. On November 29, 1947, The United Nation General Assembly enacted Resolution 181 which dissolved the British Mandate of control over Palestine. UN Resolution 181 established a homeland for Jews dividing Palestine into two separate states, a Jewish state and an Arab state. The UN Partition Plan was welcomed by the displaced Jewish population, but the Arab community pre existing in Palestine rejected the plan of partition. After UN General Assembly Resolution 181 was implemented, a transitional period began within Palestine with the peace and security compromised as a civil war broke out. On May 14, 1948, six months after Resolution 181 went into effect and the British Mandate was no longer valid, the World Zionist Organization (WZO) and the Jewish People s Council met at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in Tel Aviv, Israelwhere a unanimous approval of the Israeli Declaration of Independence was proclaimed. The establishment of the State of Israel was acknowledged by the United States and USSR within seventy two hours. The protagonist is Garson Poole, a robot who has previously thought he is a human. There are many points to ponder in the story, one of them being the similarities and differences between human and robots. Are robots as fundamentally different as we make them out to be or is it that we just haven t created the proper technology yet? Conversely, maybe humans are essentially highly functioning robots? Although we are not machines, our functioning can be highly mechanical. Additionally, Mr. Poole speculates about the concept of reality and he experiments to discover if reality can be altered.... He observes the technicians repairing his hand and proceeds to do some of his own mechanical work on himself. He wants to find the matrix that programs how he perceives the world and to see if he can change it. A feasible motivation for Poole can be to transcend his status of a robot whose experiences are pre programmed into a being that can observe on its own. He wants to live in an unrestricted reality. After some research he discovers a tape that is being fed into a scanner like mechanism deep within his chest. He concludes that this is what controls his reality and he is torn about whether he should fiddle with it: Do I want to interfere with the reality tape? And if so, why? Because, he thought, if I control that, I control reality, at least so far as I m concerned. My subjective reality... but that s all there is (Dick 387 388). Phillip Dick brings out a very strong point here, My subjective reality... but that s all there is. While some say that there is an objective reality, Poole was concluding that reality is relative to the individual. In terms of perception, it can be difficult to believe in an objective reality because a subjective reality can be proven. For example, the way we observe things can be completely different than another person. A color blind person will often see things in a different view then a

Depending on her state, she may also be required to file with her local Fair Employment Practices Agency (FEPA). The female employer could file a Workers Compensation claim. In the Supreme Court of Virginia. Ms Butler filed a workman s comp claim, Butler v. Southern States Coop. Inc., __ Va. __, 620 S.E.2d 768 (Nov. 4, 2005), stating among other things, her employer was responsible for the emotional distress when a co worker grabbed her and tried to kiss her while conducting business duties. However Ms. Butler lost her case, with the courts stating the workers compensation law does not cover distress, due to sexual harassment. Workers Compensation is a law that compensates employees when they are injured while working. A company with three employees are less are usually exempt. The employee does not have to prove it was the fault of the employer to receive the compensation. In workers comp claims, the employer is not able to use contributory negligence, assumption of risk, and the fellow servant rule to their defense. Also, the injury has to be work related. Even if the accusation of sexual harassment could not be proven, the company would not have been liable for Marwan s actions. Marwan was of a seniority position, which exempts Studio Five from liability regarding sexual harassment. Had Marwan been a non supervisory

One discarded item on the ground doesn t appear to have devastating effects, but it can. Each new piece of trash, cigarette butt, and pop can combine with thousands more. The problem of littering can be eliminated if higher fines, better educational programs, and more public trash

Though it is still a relatively new formal branch of psychology, its roots extend back to Descartes who sought a way to explain how the mind worked, proposing the analogy of a hydraulic system of nerve function (Willingham, 2007, p. 26) after he observed animated statues in Saint Germain en Laye. It has been the restless pursuit of not only the idea of how the mind works but also what exactly constituted the mind that eventually led to the foundations of cognitive theory. As psychologists examined how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The whole of an individual s behavior is found neither by observation only or an examination of one s thoughts only, but a combination of the two. The observance of behavior affords cognitive psychologists the ability to test and evaluate theories about behaviors and the hypotheses developed from them. Self reporting can present errors that can be confirmed or rejected through the use of behavioral observation tested using empirical means. Additionally, cognitive psychologists cannot personally observe and measure internal mental processes but in utilizing behavioral observation, the cognitive psychologist can arrive at logical conclusions of the existence of the behavior based on the observation of the behavior. In using the accepted standard of behavioral procedures, cognitive psychologists are able to examine the cognitive processes thought to be the source without inferring unproven causes (Zentall, 2002). This removes much of the subjectivity that initially made the cognitive perspective suspect. Cognitive psychology developed the framework to test theories and further explain behavior using behavioral observation. Using the scientific method, the theory predicts the behavior to be expected if the said theory is provable. There are several steps to take in order to this. First, develop alternative theories by having at least two possibilities to select from when

These images can be obtained from Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), X Rays, Ultrasound, positron emission tomography (PET), etc. Analyzing these images usually requires special programs and a user to run the software. All the images that are obtained, using different techniques, contain important and useful information for the physician to make a decision. MRIs are widely used by physicians and researchers due to their advantages over other medical imaging techniques. Raymond Vahan Damadian created the MRI machine in 1977 after the discovery of the X Ray, which was the first technique used to observe denser tissues such as bones [1]. In the case of the MRI, it uses the alignment of the hydrogen atom, and since human bodies are mostly composed of water this was a suitable approach. A powerful superconducting solenoid that produces a strong magnetic field makes the hydrogen atoms point in the direction of the magnet. Once this point is reached, pulses of radio frequency are emitted by antennas that excite the nuclear spin energy transition and an image is formed [1]. Since MRI is a non invasive procedure (MRI does not use any ionizing radiation like X Rays) and the resulting images are produced in a high resolution, it is preferable to work with DICOM images from MRI. I don t drink and the thought of standing in a dark room with strangers with no purpose seemed odd to me. Truthfully, the closest I have ever had to a clublike experience would be the horrific house party of 12. Needless to say, that was enough to cement my belief that it would be unenjoyable. The debate of the USS Maines destruction is over whether the explosion came from inside the ship, the internal explosion theory, or came from an outside the ship, the external explosion theory. Causes Of The Great Awakening On July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the The United States of America proclaimed their independence from Great Britain and its king by virtue of the Declaration of Independence. This was a result of many constituents expressed by the colonies. One major revival that could be examined as a viable cause of this is The Great Awakening. Government, social order, politics, and religion were all factors in the colonies bout for independence. But how much of an impact did The Great Awakening truly have on America in the independence and breaking away from Great Britain to be its own country? The Great Awakening, was a succession of religious revivals spanning from the 1720s to the 1760s, that swept across the thirteen colonies, and with it its ideals and doctrines. A theorized reason for the appeal of these revivalist principles was because it cut across lines of class, race, gender, occupation, and education (Press). This would further unite the colonies into a more common understanding of shared values, which introduced the spread of mass communication in America as revivalists travelled the colonies preaching to all. The thirteen colonies spread across a vast canvas of land, and each with their own unique state, but the religious revivals of the eighteenth century consolidated them with its reach of a lasting legacy that tolerated divergent ideas, promoted religious pluralism, and the separation of the church and the state (Press). These were all new concepts that were

According to the interpersonal component of this theory, students rely on various sources of people before making decisions, such as their parents, family relatives, professors, mentors, guidance counselors, friends, or community. However, when studentsreceive mixed messages about a particular decision, the student becomes unsure of what to do next. In this case, students will often turn to the person or persons they feel most connected to. Furthermore, when students transition into the collegeenvironment, their vulnerability makes connections particularly important, as they look for someone who will validate and support them throughout their collegiate careers. When thinking about all the support I had during high school from my parents, guidance counselors, friends, or community to enroll in college after graduating, it seemed as if college was the only option that was available to me. However, the mixed messages I received from my support networks about which institution to attend, made things overwhelming and confusing. Little Rock Creek is a small stream located in southeast raleigh near the Walnut Creek Wetland Center. Located in a watershed of approximately 705.879 acres, the creek looks like an upside down uppercase L from a map perspective. The creek floor is sandy with a few small rocks (cobblestone) in areas. The streamhas plenty of tree cover to provide shade. However, the lack of large trees encourages the curves in the creek to widen which allows the water to slow down and create pools throughout the creek. According to Title 15A of the North Carolina Administrative Code, Rule .0302 contains the classifications for waters located within the Neuse River Basin (15A NCAC 02L .0312). When sunk costs are high, a market becomes less contestable. High sunk costs (including exit costs) act as a barrier to entry of new firms (they risk making huge losses if they decide to leave a market). A good example of substantial sunk costs occurred in 2001 when British Telecom announced it was scrapping its lossmaking joint venture with US telecoms firm AT T. The closure was estimated to lead to the loss of 2,300 jobs almost 40% of Concert s workforce. And, it will cost BT $2bn in impairment charges and restructuring costs, and AT T $5.3bn. Profits and losses signal the existence of excess supply or demand (Mueller, 1986; Stigler, 1963).1 When firms are free to respond to these signals, they enter and exit markets until risk adjusted returns are equalized across markets. However, because of entry barriers, this normalization may not obtain, at least in the short run. For this reason, barriers to entry directly impact a firm s current and future profitability. Moreover, the over time effect of barriers to entry on profitability impacts the assumptions incorporated into forecasting and valuation models. In analysing firm profitability, it is

For the people who survived the trip, it was just the beginning of the living nightmare that they would face inside the walls of Auschwitz. The smartwatch is a wearable computing device, that people wear it on their wrist. From outside it is similar to a wristwatch but from inside it is more like a smartphone. It provides a lot of features that we can do with a smartphone, we can connect these to gadget to each other in order to make our life easier. But when did these small devices started to extend? People started to imagine what could they do with their wristwatch in the 1940s, we can see intelligent watches in movies like Drick Tracy or Star Trek in the 1940, but then it was just a fantasy. The first big step on the way to the smartwatches was the introduction of the so called Pulsar watch in 1972. It has lasted for 20 years to develop this digital watch and the American Hamilton Watch Companyhas debuted with it. The quartz watches mean an enormous threat to the traditional watch industry. • 33. Detroit s Real Estate Market The racial undertones of Detroit have been extremely problematic to Detroit s real estate market for well over 50 years. These social disruptions continue to have an effect on the current residents of Detroit. During the middle of the nineteenth century, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) introduced real estate tactics such as redlining, which is the practice of flagging minority dense neighborhoods for the purposes of denying approval of mortgages or inflating the price of the homes. Redlining had a profound social and economic effect on all residents of Detroit. The white majority began abandoning and selling their homes in fear that the value of the home would plummet, leading to a great financial loss when minorities moved in the area. This idea is known as white flight, and is the primary reason that Detroit has one of the highest African American populations in the country. However, through revitalization and gentrification of the Midtown/Downtown area, Detroit is slowly becoming more diverse. Throughout history, racial politics of the mid to late twentieth century affected Detroit s real estate market by excluding minorities from the real estate market. Although adding stadiums, high end retail, small shops, and restaurants is economically valuable to the city of Detroit, this is conflicting and potentially problematic for the original residents of the area because the prices of these new establishments are often much higher than the residents can afford.
  • 34. Theory Of Teaching And Learning Theory of Teaching and Learning Part 1. What I Believe about Teaching and Learning It is my opinion that conventional teaching strategies cannot meet the requirements of the classroom environment. First, the classroom environment has been culturally diversified. Second, not all students have similar capabilities or work at the same rate even if they are of the same age. Third, each student has their own learning style. In addition, some students do not react well to the conventional strategies of teaching and, as a result, there is a lack of learning (Heimlich Norland, 2002, p. 18). A Constructivist teaching environment affords more opportunties for both teachers and students, and makes learning more efficient and effective. The Montessori teaching technique is one of the best techniques because of its eight fundamental principles (Lillard, 2005, p. 29). These principles include: The premise that cognition and movement are closely interrelated, and that movement can improve cognition and learning in students. It also holds that the process of learning and well being are enhanced when an individual or student has some degree of control over their lives. Individuals learn well when they develop an interest in what they are being taught. The technique also holds that associating learning activities with a certain reward such as monetary rewards and promises for better grades, adversely affects the learning process and negatively motivates the students to learn

The school of thought has had many attackers since its inception in the 1960?s but one of the strongest attacks against it was developed by Marjorie S. Price in her 1977 paper titled: Identity through Time. For the Aristotelian essentialist?s views to have any merit they need to either redefine the basic principles of the thought experiment itself, or develop methods of defining essence that can hold up despite significant physical changes. It is simply much easier and more logical to say that the theory of essence does not hold at all. If one were to assume the existence of essence, they would be creating categories for objects that are too rigid. Even the earlier example of humanness is subject to extensive consideration, for there are many people in comas or on life support in hospitals who lack the ability to reason or to even be conscious about their surroundings but many people still consider them to be human. So if reason is not a key factor in humanity, what else could be ?key? factors? If reason is not the primary consideration for humanity, other mental capabilities cannot be considered viable classifications either, so essence would have to come down to something biological or chemical such as chromosomes or the like. But can essence really be tied to something that significant? If so, what are the parallel hallmarks of essence in an inanimate object? The entire concept of essence builds off of weak definitions and vague identifiers which simply do not tolerate advanced examination, meaning

For example, the love game where Romeo loves Rosaline, but Rosaline loves Paris, but Paris loves Juliet, and finally the cat and mouse game ends with Juliet loving Romeo and Romeo turns from Rosaline to love Juliet. Another example of an interesting conflict is the unknown love at the party when Romeo meets Juliet. At the party, Juliet sees Romeo and Romeo sees Juliet, and loving each other at first sight . Only until Juliet finds out that Romeo is a Montague and things get complicated from this point. Another excellent example of a double conflict that makes it more exciting is a fight where Tybalt kills Mercutioand Romeo kills Tybalt in retaliation and he runs away from the city before the Prince comes and tells that he is banished from the city. Questions On The Midterm Exam Ivana Ezeude ANTH 312 7 October 2016 Midterm Exam Part 1: #1 Through various sources from the past, it was relatively easy to determine the overall perception towards Africans that dominated much of the 19th and 20th centuries. During these times, Africans were seen as primitive and savage. They were inferior and less evolved in comparison tot heir Western counterparts. For the most part, they believed that Africans had made little, if any, progress since some humans left the continent and established themselves in other parts of the world. While this viewpoint may seem ludicrous to most modern people, Westerners actually based their claims on various theories. A major theory used to promulgate this viewpoint was the concept of Social Darwinism. This theory holds that human beings, like other organisms, ares subject to the concepts natural selection and survival of the fittest (kiem article). Social Darwinism was readily employed as justifications to why Africans were inferior, and had slipped behind in the race towards progress (connah 1). They had stopped developing a long time ago, and, as a result, continued to live in savagery. Africawas the past, and the Western worldwas the present and future. Deaf people have long been subjugated by hearing people in all areas of life. The most blatant act of audism occurred in the education of Deaf children. From 1880 until today hearing people have dictated that the method of education utilized should be one that enables the Deaf to more readily assimilate into the mainstream society. In order to achieve this goal, Deaf children were forced to wear auditory trainers (machines that supposedly allowed them to listen to teachers voices) and were slapped with rulers if they attempted to sign or gesture out of frustration. Until 1880 many Deaf people worked as teachers of the Deaf, but after the Milan Conference of 1880, which decreed that all instruction of Deaf be done through spoken language, Deaf teachers were terminated and forced into menial labor. Even with the increased
  • 51. Culture In Japanese Culture Culture is a significant theme in this film. One important factor to point out is throughout Stevenson s trip in Japan, he is hit with culture shock and the same can be said for the Japanese executives. Stevenson mocks how the Japanese exchange business cards during the presentation, how they eat with chopsticks and how rigid and structured Japanese cultureis. This culture clash not only affected the characters personal lives, but also impacted the business. Research has clearly established that culture affects the application of managementtheories and practices. Work values, in particular, are an important part of cross cultural understanding in that they are themselves measures of cultural dimensions, and also have strong implications for many areas of management, from employee motivation to organizational communication (MatiД‡, 2008). Almost immediately after opening up the doors to the plant, there were problems. The Japanese people had a very strict and rigid way of running their businesses and doing their work as compared to the lackadaisical American work ethic. The plant workers are expected to perform calisthenics in the morning, are denied basic privileges like sick leave, paid overtime and a union. The town and these workers are in such a desperate situation that they decide to withstand the abuse and impossible demands set by the Japanese plant owners. It is difficult enough to manage a business with workers and executives that have a common culture and
  • 52. Early Childhood Phonemic Awareness Often when we hear phonemic awareness we think of phonics. Phonemic awareness does not involve phonics or written print, but instead spoken words. Understanding that words we speak are made up of individual sounds called phonemes is the basis of understanding phonemic awareness. Phonemes are the smallest units of spoken languageand combine to form syllables and words (Ehri, Nunes, Willows, Dale, Schuster, Yaghoub Zadeh, Shanahan 2001). Phonemic awareness is both a predictor of reading achievement and the beginning of reading acquisition (Warren, Minnick, Warren, Russell, Liqin, Green, 2013). When children develop phonemic awareness, they can use letter sound knowledge to understand words (Koutsoftas, Harmon, Gray, 2009). Children... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned earlier an important topic that has been through multiple studies is, knowing when and how much phonemic awareness materials to teach. Once again the ability to focus on and manipulate phonemes in spoken words is phonemic awareness (Warren et al., 2013). Preschoolers do not focus on the meaning of speech but rather simply use language as their way of communication (Warren et al., 2013). Children this age would be considered having little ability to succeed within the realm of phonemic awareness (Warren et al., 2013). Without having any phonemic awareness instruction a beginning reader or kindergartener would have an understanding of phonemes (Warren et al., 2013). As children get older and into first grade they are normally developing readers. This suggests that phonemic awareness instruction would have the greatest impact being introduced to preschoolers or kindergarteners (Warren et al.,
  • 53. Political Climate of the 1970s Paper The 1970s for the United States of America was a time of recession, war and a world famous government scandal. The war in Vietnam left the people of the nation in disarray and turmoil. The government took a great deal of abuse from the people with the decisions made during the Vietnam War. President Nixon attempted different strategies than used before to end the VietnamWar with little success. The public s image of the government was distorted when the Watergate Scandal was made public and Richard Nixonwas the first president to resign in U.S. history. The 1970s was a challenging time for the people of the nation and the faith the country had in the government diminished. By the end of the Vietnam War the social outcome of the nation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people saw how dirty the politicians can be and lost a great deal of respect for the government. The Watergate Scandal displayed criminal acts which involved the President and high ranking officials. The after effects showed the balance shift from the Republican to the Democratic Party with the voters. Most of the voters were disgusted with Nixon s actions and leaned to the Democratic Party for restructuring. The Watergate Scandal also led to the people blaming the government of other issues like inflation, recession and energy cost. The story of Watergate is a complex and deep one full of intrigue and back room deals, public politics and personal motivations (Evans, 2002). The people of the nation witnessed President Nixon abuse the power of presidency and his actions plague the political practices to this day. In conclusion, the 1970s were a time in history that will be remembered for many years to come. The Vietnam War was full of controversy and frustrated the American pride the country obtained after World War II. The colleges in the U.S. were a popular location for anti war protestors and even resulted in the death of several students. The draft was in full effect and created draft dodgers which mostly fled to Canada to escape the war. Many Americans felt our military should not have even been in Vietnam, but the government feared the communist domino

  • 56. Chekhov s Portrayal of Women Chekhov s portrayal of women Name Course Instructor Institution Date The stories of Anton Chekhov mark a focal moment in European fiction. This is the point where 19th realist caucus of the short stories started their transformation into modern form. As such, his work straddles two traditions. The first is that of the anti romantic realism which has a sharp observation of external social detail. It has human behavior conveyed within tight plot. The second is the modern psychological realism in which the action in typically internal and expressed in associative narrative that is built on epiphanic moments. In consideration of the two sides, Chekhov developed powerful personal styles that presage modernism without losing traditional frills of the form. This essay will discuss the Chekhov s portrayal of women. Chekhov in The Name Day Party focuses on Olga and her relationship with her husband, Chekhov appreciation for women is portrayed (Finke, 2005). Chekhov s work maintains a continuity of appreciation for the endurance and humaneness of women in the face of afflicted and patriarchal prejudice that fits in this feminist oriented era. Chekhov, though not liberal or conservative politically have rejected all theories that generalize about life. Chekhov instead has put his faith in the people. On another case, the central female characters in The Lady with the Dog have been portrayed in comparable manner. Dmitri s wife and Anna are portrayed in same light. They are
  • 57. Literary Devices In Easter 1916 W.B. Yeat s poem, Easter 1916, details the speaker s feelings of Nationalism and heartache as he remembers those that he lost in the Easter Rising. As the speaker reflects on the time before the rising, he remembers not only how his life has changed but also how his friends and companions had transformed both in their character and in their state of being. The speaker uses metaphors to visualize the unchanging goal of Irish freedom and the coming of nights that bring about death and heartache. In this analysis, I will be focusing on the first and last stanzas of the poem. By comparing these two stanzas I will reflect on the literary devices used, as well as the differences of the speaker s visuals from the beginning and end. Overall, the speaker... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker ends the stanza with But lived where motley is worn / All changed, changed utterly: / A terrible beauty is born (Yeats 15 17). The literal meaning of this stanza is that the speaker of the poem and the people he acquainted himself with lived and wore motley or patched clothing a jester wears. The metaphorical meaning of this is that motley is the vehicle for the tenor of life, meaning that it was comical in the fact that it had little substance or value. This changed when the terrible beauty was born. To describe beauty as terrible is an oxymoron, which can be interpreted as the discordance between these two words and what they mean. Within the context of the poem, the terrible beauty could be the goal of Irish freedom and Irish men and women willing to fight and die for their country. Just as love can cause pain, the beauty that is formed through Nationalism and loyalty to their country can cause suffering to its people. The beauty can also be taken as the value that was gained from fighting for what they believed in compared to living meaningless lives before the war. The terrible aspect to this is that people had to die in order for life to have meaning for
