Part I: GENERAL CHEMISTRY 50%
Physical Chemistry
General Concept of ionic equilibrium: pH, buffer solution, buffer capacity and buffer range, pH
change in acid base titration.
Inorganic Chemistry
General concept of metals and non-metals. Bronsted and Lewis acid-base concept, hard and soft
acid and base, relative strengths of acid and base. Principles of volumetric and gravimetric
analysis.
Organic Chemistry
Characterization of organic compounds. Basic concepts of exothermic and endothermic
reactions, aliphatic and aromatic compounds. Identification of functional group in organic
compounds.
Applied-Chemistry
Basic concept of environmental pollution. Significance of soil texture and organic matter in soil.
Part II: LABORATORY METHODS 50%
Chromatographic Techniques
Basic principles and application of chromatography (TLC, paper chromatography, column
chromatography and ion exchange chromatography).
Spectrophotometry techniques
General Principles and applications of UV Spectrophotometry and colorimetric techniques .
Titrimetric analysis
Fundamental of acid-base, oxidation-reduction and complexometric titration.
Statistical methods
General concept of statistical methods in chemical analysis: Accuracy, precision, minimization
of error.
Laboratory Management
General idea of safety precaution in the laboratory. Care and maintenance of laboratory
equipments.

Basic concepts of petroleum products and its adulteration .

Forensic examination of soil (colour and texture).
Part III: TOXICOLOGY 40%
Drugs of Abuse
Introduction and classification.
Forensic Toxicology
General concept of forensic toxicology, nature of toxicological exhibits in poisoning cases,
classification of poisons and types of poisoning .
Extraction techniques
Isolation of insecticides using solvent extraction technique from biological samples (viscera,
body fluids).
Identification techniques
Presumptive tests of Narcotics drugs and Psychotropic substances. Identification of insecticide
poisons using TLC technique, Identification of rodenticide poisons from biological samples.
Forensic Pharmacology
General concept of mechanism and action of drugs, their safety, uses, mode of administration .
