Right To Vote
Vote? Why would I waste my time on such a pointless task? This is often said by many young
voters. Young people are not convinced that politics affects them. Many just don t care. Good
habits don t form overnight. Young people need to wake up and realize that your vote really
does matter. It is your right to vote, many people don t have that option. When someone votes,
they voice their opinion. That single vote can make a difference, whether it is small or big, a vote
is a vote. Young people are not the only ones at blame here, politicians don t know how to attract
the younger generation to appeal them. Young people don t realize that it is their future at stake.

There have been many efforts to persuade young people to vote. Some efforts include celebrity
appearances, and mock elections. Youth today is attracted to the internet, and some states have
adapted the used of E Voting. According to 2Svensson, Jörgen, and Ronald Leenes, With E
Voting, it takes the extra step and implies the electronic registration. (Jörgen, Leenes, 2008 par
5) Most politicians are just looking at the older generation, appealing to them. Not to sound
arrogant, but they aren t going to be here forever. Young voters will not voter for people who
they do not recognize into jobs they don t understand. Majority of people in the U.S. watch T.V,
and they use the media to catch up on their daily political news. Over the past decade, the media
uses its time to catch candidates off guard and meddling into their lives. There has been little to
no effort in reaching the younger generation. Intimidation is a huge factor, politicians are seen as
money hungry people who only care for themselves. Politicians don t believe that young voters
will vote, so they won t bother to reach out to them. A survey by the Australia Institute found that
4 1.2 million young Australians felt no political party represented their needs (Lucas, Clay, 2013,
par 8). Many people believe that if there were young politicians in office, it would have a big
impact on young voters. Young people need politicians who are engaged with issues that

Essay About Jamu
Origin of Jamu The usage of jamu has been known since pre history, where the historical
evidence supporting the origin of jamu in Indonesia can be traced through the discovery of stone
tools during the periode of Neolithic and Mesolithicum ages in the form of lumping which has
been used by our ancestors to process the food and jamu. Initially jamu is only consumed by the
royal family that can be seen from the origin of the word jamu derived from Djampi, ?kromo

health). Jampi jampi means the incantation of shaman while using herbs that combined with prayer

According to Selo Soemarjan (1996), from prehistory to modern era there are four stages in the
culture development, which are early irrationalism, further irrationalism, early rationalism, and
advanced rationalism. Being located at the cross roads of international trading routes, the
Indonesian archipelago has a long history of contact with Chinese and Arab traders, who introduced
plants, herbs and spices, and brought with them insights from Indian Ayurvedic traditions,
traditional Chinese medicine, Arab healing practices and ancient Greek medicine. Then because the

traders and global adventures to sail and travel to Indonesia. The trade in herbs and spices, which
started in the sixteenth century, made the European diet much tastier and suitable to beat the cold
climate. It also provided physicians with substances they could use in the treatment of disease. In
fact, the Renaissance of European medicines in the seventeenth century was mostly based on the
herbs and spices and on the medical insights of traditional healers from India, China and the

3.08 Review and Critical Thinking Review Questions 1. Explain the different forms of child
abuse? Include Shaken Baby Syndrome in your response. The different forms of child abuse are
physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, and Shaken Baby Syndrome. Physical
abuse is violence directed toward a child by a parent. Emotional abuse is when the victim feels
worthless and rejected. Sexual abuse is sexual contact between the child and an adult or even the
perpetrator speaks to the child in a sexually explicit way. Neglect is when parents fail to take care

4. List and explain factors that lead to poor relationships and that increase the risk of child abuse.
Factors that lead to poor relationships are latchkey children, marital strife and divorce,
substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and death. Latchkey children routinely spend time alone in home
without adult supervision. Children who are raised in homes that are full of conflict and
hostility between parents experience a high level of stress. Drug and alcohol abuse can hinder a
person s self control and a parent s ability to be responsible and a nurturing parent. HIV/AIDS is
sexually transmitted, and both parents are likely to be affected, so it leaves the child at risk of
being orphaned by the disease. Dealing with the death of loved ones is one of the most difficult
aspects of life and there is no way to protect children from this painful experience. 5. Why is it
critical for a parent to be involved in their children s education? It is critical for a parent to be
involved in their children s education because it is important for a child to have knowledge.
Parents often help toddlers develop early academic skills by reading books to them or helping them
learn their ABCs and numbers. When a child starts school, parents should communicate with their
child s teachers and keep track of their academic progress. Parents of older children should focus on
teaching their children independent study

How to start a Web Business
How to start a Web Business The number one question to ask when starting a business, whether
on the Web or in a traditional setting, is why would people want to buy the product or service.
Somewhere in the world, one can find people selling anything so why would people come to
you? Are you selling something unique, do you make or market something that no one can find
anywhere else or would find it almost impossible to find elsewhere? Do you sell your product at a
lower price then anyone else? Maybe your prices are competitive with other businesses but you offer
superior service. Perhaps you have the ability to offer unique services that no one else can or will

Find which company provides their Web hosting and see if it is affordable. Web server housing
should only be purchased by individuals with experience in Web servers or those willing to pay to
have someone else manage the server. This option is one that most people will not find appealing.
The next decision is what should be offered on the Web page. Many different things regarding a
business can be put on the Web page. Should the page list all the products offered? Will the page
detail descriptions of all products, only the names, or something else? Some design choices should
be made deciding how items will be sold. If items will be sold online, there are several ways to
accomplish this. They fall into two basic categories, those requiring user interaction and those that
are completely automatic. User interactive systems can include Web based forms and email links.
With a Web based form, a user indicates the items desired and other ordering information. When
the user is finished the information is forwarded to an account representative who keys information
into the ordering system just as they would if they were taking orders over the phone or by fax.
The second type of online system is one in which the person completes the online order from and
the server takes the information given and automatically enters the data in the ordering system.

My Speech On The Emergency Medicine Class
In the summer of 2014, I thought I had life completely planned out. I was enrolled at Rowan
Cabarrus Community College while still attending Mount Pleasant High School. I had just
started taking my Emergency Medicine class and had already completed two thirds of my fire
class. I volunteered at Northeast Cabarrus Fire Department and was so close to becoming an
interior firefighter, I could taste it. I never slowed down enough to think about God s plan for me.
I seemed to only care about creating my own plan and following through with it. My intentions
were to graduate high school and be completely done with my education. Graduating meant I was
free to spend my time chasing my dreams, but that changed on my way to my Emergency Medicine

I was overcome with an intense pain shooting from my neck to the area between my shoulders.
My breathing slowed and shortly was accompanied by my low moans as I tried to squeeze little
bits of air into my lungs. I could feel myself being consumed by the feeling of fire inside my
chest. I passed out for what felt like a long night s sleep, to only be awakened by the sound of the
ambulance and the frosty fingers holding my C spine. My precisely drawn out plan was no
longer in my control; I had relinquished all rights to my plan when I agreed to join the game leap

At some point on that rainy day, I found myself consumed in complete and utter denial. It must
have been after the doctors notified my parents that I had broken four thoracic vertebra; my T 1

would limit my future plans. They informed me the pain I felt would go down some, but never
completely subside. A couple doctors wanted to place me on a pain medicine regimen for the
rest of my life. I remember the icy puddles from my tears that accumulated on my pillow, the
smell of the doctor s cologne that slowly suffocated my already struggling breaths, and the sound
of my mother weeping at my bedside. I took the diagnosis like a bullet; it pierced my heart and

Starbucks, which has been in the coffeehouse industry for 41 years, face higher competition than
before. Even so, Starbucks is able to not only survive through this, but they are able to be one of

Compared to the other coffeehouses, Starbucks has a greater augmentation layer. Now, Starbucks
has provided ice creams, alcoholic beverages, teas and juices in addition to coffee. Not many
companies has this wide range of products sold in the market.
Customer Analysis and Evaluation
The target market for Starbucks Coffee used to be the established customers, which includes the
middle to high economic class of the society such as the elderly and the professional workers who
enjoys high quality coffee. However, as their business expands, its customers are becoming more
diversified. Starbucks target market moves towards the younger, less well educated, and in a lower
income bracket than their more established customers, (Moon).
Starbucks position itself as a brand which provides high quality products and is environmentally
conscious. Nowadays, people are becoming more environmentally friendly due to higher
knowledge on global warming. Therefore, Starbucks is able to improve its brand image by using a
recycled packaging.
Through time, Starbucks reposition itself not to be too concentrated on coffee itself but to diversify
their products. This is shown by changing their brand logo in 2011. Because its product is in its
maturity stage it is important for them to diversify its products and differentiate themselves against
competitors.

Information On Line Transaction Processing
ETL Overview
Within an enterprise there are various different applications and data sources which have to be
integrated together to enable Data Warehouse to provide strategic information to support decision
making. On line transaction processing (OLTP) and data warehouses cannot coexist efficiently in
the same database environment since the OLTP databases maintain current data in great detail
whereas data warehouses deal with lightly aggregated and historical data. Extraction,
Transformation, and Loading (ETL) processes are responsible for data integration from
heterogeneous sources into multidimensional schemata which are optimized for data access that

Some may argue that Native Americans live a decent life with the aid that the United States has
given them. Americans feel that the reservations that Native Americans are given is the proper way
to respect their lands and culture, by allowing them to have a small portion of what was once all of

tribes protect resources and traditions important to them. This provides Native American tribes with
the assistance that they need to maintain their way of life and cultural ideals. Yet Blackfoot Indians

Crispy Hair Synthesis
Abstract
During this experiment, the researcher would chemically lighten hair using hydrogen peroxide and
lightener. Each swatch of hair was kept in foil with the lightening solution for varying increments of
time, 10, 20, and 40 minutes. Once the hair was removed from the lightening solution it will be
placed on a hygrometer, and put into a room for five minutes, one minute with running water.
According to Olsen (2014), the purpose of the experiment was to determine whether the chemical
process of hair lightening permanently alters the structure of human hair. It was hypothesized if
strands of hair are chemically treated for longer periods of time, then the structure of the human hair

Character Analysis Of Battleship Potemkin
Battleship Potemkin
The Battleship Potemkin is a film that shows the images of anguish and suffering, even though the
movie has no sound, one can understand the emotion and anguish behind the story. This film
showed how the sailors are being mistreated by the higher ranking officers on the ship. The
officers take their anger out on the sailors in an abusive way and try to make them eat rotten food
with maggots in it. All the sailors start getting sick of the way they are being treated and decide to
take a stand, by refusing to eat the rotten food. This would induce an emotional response from the
viewers, because of the human suffering shown in the film, it can bring out feelings of anger from
the audience, as they have empathy for the sailors. The officers want to punish the sailors, by
having the ones who would not eat the soup to come forward, then they covered them with a tarp
and ordered the sailors who were not being insubordinate to shoot them. This part of the film
conveyed a sense of anxiety in the viewers as they knew this was wrong and unjust. The other
sailors realized that it was wrong to shoot their brothers and refused to shoot them, this caused a
big fight among the sailors and the officers. The sailors outnumbered the officers and threw them
overboard and took over the ship. During this scene, the viewer goes from anger and anxiety, to
feelings of relief and elation, although, it is short lived because the film goes returns to death, loss,
and suffering.

Tokugawa Shogunate Economy In Japan
The Tokugawa Shogunate era was a period of significant growth and change in Japanese society.
There were two major catalysts that led to this development in Japan. Firstly, economic growth
occurred due to a transformation within the agricultural sector. Merchant driven trade and market
activity saw drastic changes in the work of the peasants. They moved from their agricultural land
to the major cities. Trade increase led to the the creation of an effective and reliable transportation
systems that allowed for Western and Eastern parts of Japan to trade. Improvements to the road
systems and shipping networks were expanded under Tokugawa s rule. The influx of the

population increase caused for the the emergence of castle towns. Building these towns required
vast amounts of labour leading to the movement of peasant habitation. These cities eventually

Law is most commonly seen in old and modern day tv shows with criminal being thrown behind

lawyer John Adkins in an interview. My interest in law began when I was a young girl. I would
check out books whose subjects ranged from law in general to actual criminal cases both solved
and unsolved. My mind would drink in all the details from the evidence, to the trial, and finally
to the conviction of the accused. One day, I was allowed to check out a DVD of a solved case in
which the defendant was found not guilty of the sudden and mysterious death of his wife. I was
intrigued by hearing and arguments of both sides. Convinced of the mans guilt, I set out on my
own little investigation which yielded little more than the awakening of my interest then and
there. Unable to disguise my growing interest, I told my mom of my dream to become a lawyer.
She advised me to carefully think of all the schooling required to achieve such a career. Past

thousands of years. It is cheaper than prescription medications, and one would not have to worry
about all the possible side effects that prescription medications contribute to, as in effects on the

legalized. It is cheaper for patients to grow their own medication. Some scientists are still
working on how they can make a synthetic form of THC that can be put into capsule form. Is a
synthetic form safe? This is still unclear. Physicians who are able to prescribe medical marijuana

What Is The Role Of Reasoning In Judicial Decision Making
It s important to understand how judges come to their decisions, as it can often be more than
just simply applying legal principles to get to the relevant solution. It is common for there to be
many potential outcomes to a case, and these outcomes shape the way in which laws shift and
change thus having a profound impact on society as a whole our laws are what define our
civilization, values, beliefs, and morality. As Lord Dyson stated: The business of judging often
involves a choice between different conclusions, any of which it may be possible to reach by
respectable legal reasoning. The choice made is likely to be motivated at a far deeper level by the
judge s own approach to the law . This essay will cover the role of reasoning in judicial decision
making; how it allows judges to interpret statute and precedent, as well as leading the way for
reform and the establishing of new case law. It will also cover the limitations of reasoning, some of
which help keep the balance of power in check Such as binding precedent and the rule of law, as
well as other subconscious factors that may influence a judge s ability to use reason when making a
decision.
Reasoning plays an important role in judicial decision making. No matter how many precedent
cases, guidelines, and statutes may exist, reasoning will always be essential because it allows these
factors to be interpreted on a case by case basis; this is necessary because statutes are too limited to
be able to cover every

U.s. Gross Domestic Product
As the United States moved further away from the immediate economic boom in the final years
of the World War and the following several years, its economy showed a major decline. While
the country fought one of the biggest wars of all time, defense spending rose to levels as high as
37.8 percent of U.S. gross domestic product (Teslik). World War II was financed through debts and
an increase in taxes, and this negatively effected both consumption and investment. Some believed
that the war would improve the economy due to the increase in GDP during those years, but at the
end of the war, the economic growth fell back to the same trend it had been following during the
1930 s (Institute for Economics and Peace). During the 1960 s, Federal spending soared because
the government was attempting to fund new programs such as Medicare, Food Stamps, and various
plans to improve the education system (US Department of State). Then, with the war in Vietnam on
the horizon, military spending began increasing as well, and the government started spending a
surplus of money, since it had to fund both the war on poverty domestically, and the prepare the
nation for another war internationally. The government raised taxes throughout the 1950 s and into

Analyzing The Current And Future Economic Status Of Ohio
Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio
Abdulaziz Musallam December 4, 2014
Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio
This paper will start by tackling the economic situation in Ohio by defining the main terms which
we will use from time to time in this economic analysis. We will define recession and depression in
order to put these matters in the right perspective. According to the National Bureau of Economic
Research (NBER), recession is the period when business activities have reached its peak and a fall
starts. This continues until the time when those business activities reach the bottom. In average, a
recession lasts for one year. Depression on the other hand is a downturn in economic activity. A
great example is the Great Depression of 1930. The term recession was coined during this period in
order to differentiate the event of 1930 from the smaller economic declines of 1910 and 1913
(Smiley, 2008). So we can lightly say that a depression can be said to be a recession that lasts
longer and its business activity decline is larger.
Having defined both the recession and depression, we can point out the difference. The changes
in GNP are the best test to use in getting the differences between the two terms. For a depression,
the GNP declines by more than 10 per cent (Moffat, n.d). On the other hand a recession is an
economic decline that is less severe. A number of world leaders have warmed of the looming

Do you want get married with the one you love or do you want to find someone who has many

freedom to get married by two main ways: love marriage and arranged marriage. A lot of people in

Due to that, the couple might end up with suffering and divorce. In case of love marriage, people
might expect more from their partner, largely because they have fallen in love before marriage.
This leads to lesser compromises, as the person expects more from his or her partner. On the other
hand, this shows that in an arranged marriage, the couple will not expect anything from the partner
instead give a full commitment to adjust themselves with their partner. Furthermore, world divorce
statistic illustrates that India records the lowest rate of divorce which is 1.1% compared to the
other countries such as United States which records 54% of divorce rate leading the most high
divorce rate (American for Divorce Reform, 2002. Retrieved from: http://divorcerate2011.com

impractical in Western countries, the practice of arranged marriage may become one of the factors
that contribute to this significant statistic. In fact, arranged marriage somehow reduces the divorce
rate. Therefore, these prove that arranged marriage is more stable than love marriage.

Writing As A Tool That Everyone Can Benefit From Good...
I have become to notice, through my English 1101 class, that writing well is a tool that everyone
can benefit from. Good writers will tell of an occasion in which their talent has earned them
advancement; an advancement that comes to play not only in the job market but also for personal
satisfaction. Fortunately, writingis a skill that can be practiced to a point at which near flawlessness
is reached. The many sides of writing can seem quite overwhelming to the novice, like myself.
The aspect of writing that most people are unaware of is the fact that it is actually broken down
into just a few basic principles. Those principles are, be clear, be yourself, have correct grammar,
have style, and practice. Before I began college I did not like writing. I believed writing was
intended for authors and law makers. I also believed that writing should not be taught. Those
beliefs were so wrong, thankfully I soon realized the importance of writing. Writing is a form of
communication that can take everyone too many places.
I want to be truthful, for me, writing was frustrating before I began college. Many times I had
trouble writing about anything. The main reason why I had so much trouble when writing, was
because I did not concentrate on my work enough. Even when I tried my hardest to concentrate, my
mind seemed to wonder around to different directions towards other thoughts. After my thoughts
wondered, I forgot all about my work and just thought about various things such as

The Four Novels
Best among the four novels
Literature is language, fictional, true, aesthetic and even intertextual according to the Writing
Essays about Literature by Kelly Griffith (Griffith 15). There are many distinct types of literatures
in the world and they may be in very different. The four literatures we read this quarter are very
different, they are in distinct styles, themes and intent. Among the four of them, I,Claudius by Kelly
Griffith was the best The wide range and multiple well developed themes and detailed depictions of
different characters make this novel outstanding among the four. To begin with, I, Claudius includes
a wide range and multiple well developed themes. This novels have multiple main themes such as

There are many characters who are very important to the storyline in I, Claudius such as Livia,
Claudius, Augustus, Tiberius and Caligula. Not only does Graves depict the main character,
Claudius, clearly, but also deeply depict the characteristics of all the characters in the story. The
author create all of them as round characters. Round characters have multiple personality and
traits and are thus more like real people and are often not recognizable as stereotypes according
to the definition in the Writing Essays About Literature (Griffith 61). Livia is a good example
of a round character. Livia is described as cruel, ambitious and competent. Livia murders many
people in order to maintain her power in controlling Rome, Claudius, do you think that Livia
killed [your father]? I m sure of it (Graves 155). Livia is also different with other women at that
time and she is very ambitious. She has multiple personalities and she does not act according to
the stereotype. The personalities of Augustus is also fully developed. He is described as both a
ambitious and capable emperors but at the same time controlled by Livia. All the personalities
of most of the characters are described very clearly. After reading the book, the readers may feel
like they really know these characters in person since we know their personalities well.
However, other novels usually tend to describe only the main character clearly and deeply but
not any other characters. In The Natural by Bernard Malamud, most of the characters are just
round characters. Accoeding to Writing Essays about Literature, round characters have only one
or two personality traits and are often recognizable as stereotype (Griffith 61). For instance,
Harriet Bird is a typical professional killer as she looks mysterious and a bit strange, she held by a
loose coed a shiny black hat box which she wouldn t let Eddie touch when

The Birthmark Rhetorical Analysis
A mainstream and deeply American way of thinking about the nation s past, present, and future.
this was the definition and meaning of American jeremiad that was given by scholars. The
American jeremiad sustains a contradictory rhetorical of hope and fear where there is tension
between ideal and real. The jeremiad is a rhetorical tradition that appeared in most of America s
history, and it began in Puritan New England. Puritan New England was where jeremiad got its
American stamp and where it was most commonly used and developed into what it is now called
American jeremiad. People think of puritan New England as a society where religion such as
Christian and civil government were intertwined. Never has anyone imagine a society where

small birthmark on Georgiana s cheek. Aylmer doesn t just love science but he is obsessed with
it. His hope is very high when it comes to using science to remove her birthmark, which to her
the birthmark are like her charm. There are many kind of symbol that symbolize a person of who
they are and it might have a connection to their life, but for Aylmer, that mark on his wife cheek is

Edwin Muir Research Paper
Edwin Muir, a 19th century poet, lived a long and fairly pleasant life, despite his early years.
Muir came into the world on the 15th of May in 1887, on one of the Orkney Islands. (Poem
Hunter) His parents were farmers, but in 1901 his parents and siblings, 6 in all including Muir,
were forced off of their land for financial reasons, and so they traveled to Glasgow. Once there,
two of Muir s brothers, along with both of his parents, passed away. With half of his familygone,
Muir and the rest of his siblings parted ways. Young and on his own with so little formal education,

Prospect Theory
Summary of the learning points (ranked by importance to you) Today s class discussed the mental
accounting for money management. 1.Prospect theory. The theory can be represented by a value
function, as shown below. The value function starts from a reference point, and is normally
concave for gains, and convex for losses. It is also steeper for losses than for gains. The theory
intends to explain why people behave irrationally when making choices. 2.Framing effect. It refers
to the difference in response to the same question represented in different ways. This technique is
frequently used in marketing ads campaign, such as PAD. 3.Sunk Cost effect. When people have
put effort into something, they are often... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, according to mental accounting, we assign value and goal for money in each account.
We also set aside some expected gain before we make any investment. As long as we meet our
target, then we can relocate the money for some other accounts. By investing money long term,
we forgo the opportunity to enjoy the gain in short term. (2) Gift card I just realized the gift card
is another combination of framing and sunk cost effect. Even though I received the gift card, I
didn t pay for it, whoever gave I to me did spend money in that store. There are two scenarios on
how to spend the gift card money. On one hand, I view it as free money and spend it on luxury
items, which I would not normally buy; usually I pay for the excess amount out of my own
pocket. So I spend more than I should. Or on the other hand, I forgot about the card. Most of the
gift card has fine print which states the expiration date. Lots of people do not notice this, and forgo
the opportunity to claim the amount. Money does not expire; gift card does. Framing enables the
company to put a time limit on the

Character Analysis Of Battleship Potemkin Battleship Potemkin The Battleship Potemkin is a film that shows the images of anguish and suffering, even though the movie has no sound, one can understand the emotion and anguish behind the story. This film showed how the sailors are being mistreated by the higher ranking officers on the ship. The officers take their anger out on the sailors in an abusive way and try to make them eat rotten food with maggots in it. All the sailors start getting sick of the way they are being treated and decide to take a stand, by refusing to eat the rotten food. This would induce an emotional response from the viewers, because of the human suffering shown in the film, it can bring out feelings of anger from the audience, as they have empathy for the sailors. The officers want to punish the sailors, by having the ones who would not eat the soup to come forward, then they covered them with a tarp and ordered the sailors who were not being insubordinate to shoot them. This part of the film conveyed a sense of anxiety in the viewers as they knew this was wrong and unjust. The other sailors realized that it was wrong to shoot their brothers and refused to shoot them, this caused a big fight among the sailors and the officers. The sailors outnumbered the officers and threw them overboard and took over the ship. During this scene, the viewer goes from anger and anxiety, to feelings of relief and elation, although, it is short lived because the film goes returns to death, loss, and suffering. ... What Is The Role Of Reasoning In Judicial Decision Making It s important to understand how judges come to their decisions, as it can often be more than just simply applying legal principles to get to the relevant solution. It is common for there to be many potential outcomes to a case, and these outcomes shape the way in which laws shift and change thus having a profound impact on society as a whole our laws are what define our civilization, values, beliefs, and morality. As Lord Dyson stated: The business of judging often involves a choice between different conclusions, any of which it may be possible to reach by respectable legal reasoning. The choice made is likely to be motivated at a far deeper level by the judge s own approach to the law . This essay will cover the role of reasoning in judicial decision making; how it allows judges to interpret statute and precedent, as well as leading the way for reform and the establishing of new case law. It will also cover the limitations of reasoning, some of which help keep the balance of power in check Such as binding precedent and the rule of law, as well as other subconscious factors that may influence a judge s ability to use reason when making a decision. Gross Domestic Product As the United States moved further away from the immediate economic boom in the final years of the World War and the following several years, its economy showed a major decline. While the country fought one of the biggest wars of all time, defense spending rose to levels as high as 37.8 percent of U.S. gross domestic product (Teslik). World War II was financed through debts and an increase in taxes, and this negatively effected both consumption and investment. Analyzing The Current And Future Economic Status Of Ohio Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio Abdulaziz Musallam December 4, 2014 Analyzing the Current and Future Economic Status of Ohio This paper will start by tackling the economic situation in Ohio by defining the main terms which we will use from time to time in this economic analysis. We will define recession and depression in order to put these matters in the right perspective. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), recession is the period when business activities have reached its peak and a fall starts. This continues until the time when those business activities reach the bottom. In average, a recession lasts for one year. Depression on the other hand is a downturn in economic activity. A great example is the Great Depression of 1930. The term recession was coined during this period in order to differentiate the event of 1930 from the smaller economic declines of 1910 and 1913 (Smiley, 2008). So we can lightly say that a depression can be said to be a recession that lasts longer and its business activity decline is larger. Having defined both the recession and depression, we can point out the difference. The changes in GNP are the best test to use in getting the differences between the two terms. For a depression, the GNP declines by more than 10 per cent (Moffat, n.d). On the other hand a recession is an economic decline that is less severe.
