2. INTRODUCTION
DLW, was foundation stone laid by Late Dr.Rajendra
Prasad on 23 April 1956.It is spread in 220 acre
(Workshop Land) &520.6(Township Area).
3rd February 1964-First Locomotive flagged off by Late
Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri.
It is production unit owned by Indian Railway, for which
it manufactures Diesel Electric Locomotive and Spares
parts.
To meet the increase transportation needs of the Indian
Railway it collaboration with ALCO(American
Locomotive Company)USA 1961.
DLW, rolled out its locomotive three years later on
January 3,1964.It manufactures Locomotive.

3. ABOUT OF DLW
Got its first ISO certification in 1997 and ISO-
9001&ISO-14001 in December 2002.
With technology transfer agreement from
manufacturers such as GM-EMD,DLW today produce
advance locomotive having out put range from 2600
to 4500HP.
At latest locomotive produce by DLW, i.e. WDG5
has capacity up to 5500HP & trying to make 6000HP.
It has supplied locomotive s other countries such as
Sri Lanka,Bangladesh,Malaysia,Tazania and Vietnam
etc.
