Summer Training Report,Only front page, Locomotive Manufacturing Workshops, DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE WORKS, VARANASI(DLW), Full report on next upload, Diesel locomotive works (DLW) is production unit under the ministry of railways. This was set up in collaboration with American Locomotive Company (ALCO) USA in 1961 and the first locomotive was rolled out in 1964. This unit produces diesel electronic locomotives and DG sets for Indian railways and other customers in India and abroad.

ABSTRACT
Indian railways has one of the largest and busiest rail networks in the world Indian
Railways is the state-owned railway company of india.It comes under the Ministery of
transporting over 18 million passengers and more than 2 million tones of freight daily.
Its revenue is Rs.107.66 billion. It is the world’s largest commercial employer, with
more than 1.4 million employees. It operates rail transport on 6,909 stations over a
total route length of more than 63,327 kilometer (39,359 miles).The fleet of Indian
railway includes over 200,000 (freight) wagon coaches and 8,000 locomotive.It also
owns locomotive and coach production facilities .It founded in 1853 under the East
India Company.
India Railway is administrated by the Railway Board Indian Railway is divided into
16 zones.Each zone railway is made up of acertain number of division .There are a
total of sixty-seven dividions.It also operate the Kolkata metro.There are six
manufacturing plants of the Indian Railway. The total length of track used by Indian
Railway is about 108,805km.While the total route length of the network
63,465km.About 40% of the total track kilometer is electrified & almost all electrified
section use 25,000V AC. Indian railway uses four rail track gauges.
The GM Locomotives have been included in the Diesel Locomotive fleet of Indian
railway. Production of GM locomotive has already started in DLW, Varanasi. The
4000 HP, computer controlled GM locomotive has a large number of special and
improved features vis-a-vis the Alco design diesel locomotive presently running in
Indian railway. All those in the field of diesel locomotive need to get acquainted with
the GM locomotive. This book “Introduction hand book on GM locomotive” prepared
by the CAMTECH has been prepared with the purpose of disseminating the
introductory information to all those in diesel loco maintenance field.
