America And The American Dream
Land of Opportunity, Home of the Brave, and Land of the Free often come to mind when envisioning
the United States for most individuals around the world. Through the media, America and the
American Dream is depicted as the salvation for poverty, sorrow, and hardship. The Founding Fathers
invented the American Dream, offering life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Unfortunately, an
abundance of immigrants were falling short of possessing the American Dream and slowly began to
realize that these alluring portrayals were merely a facade. Wealthy and influential corporations
needed to revitalize the American Dream before it would dissolve amongst the masses. In order to
keep American deception ongoing, a new American Dream was implemented into society. This time, it
was not affecting individuals careers and lifestyles, it was affecting their identity and their consumerist
behavior. The American Dream embodies the accessibility of opportunities, the longing for social
acceptance, and the yearn for economic acquisition (awk). Consumerism harvests this elusive dream
by perpetuating an ideology of an empty identity through media marketing, corporate imperialism, and
the limitless consumption of brands that construct identity. American colonization sprouts from greed
and the desire to possess a greater need. As a result, this imperialistic mindset has transformed into
consumerism through abrasive expansion of many large corporations. In Bruce Forbes s Mickey

The Influence of Star Wars in Today´s Culture Essay
Motion Pictures have always had a strong influence in today s culture, but maybe none as prevalent as
Star Wars. Originating with Episode 4 A New Hope, the series boomed from 1977 to 2005 with yet
another addition coming in 2015. The strongest of the series was the original trilogy episodes 4, 5, and
6, all generally released in the 1980s. As one of the strongest film francaises still today, it s impact
within the 1980s was only the tip of the iceberg. Children and adults alike still anticipate the new
edition of this seemingly endless journey. If any singular film series still holds prevalence in its future
decades it is Star Wars: Original Trilogy. Far off in a distant galaxy an infamous story would begin, A

Thyroid Digestinal System
The thyroid, found in the throat, is a gland which produces hormones that keep your body s engine
going optimally. Too much or too little thyroid produced hormones affect every aspect of daily life. If
your thyroid is out of sync with your other organs symptoms and the extenuating consequences
change everything. Your gut health is important to digestion, absorption of nutrients, and require
thyroid hormones to sustain a healthy body. How the thyroid controls digestion is important in
understanding what to do about the problems affecting the gut.

Treatment of hyperthyroidism often leads to hypothyroidism. It is important to understand that the
disorders associated with hypothyroidism are metabolic in nature and the associated digestive

Manifestation of Communism
Marx, K. F. Engels Bourgeois and proletarians
Tom Considine
Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.1) said The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of
class struggles. (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.1) This is the opening text from Marx and it is the
theme of the rest of the chapter. Marx writes of the oppression of the proletarians and how the
capitalist bourgeoisie have commodified them. He describes his disapproval for the capitalists stating
that there is revolt from the proletariats due to the exploitation that was taking place, this would be the
same for any capitalist society. Throughout the text there is the overriding idea that society would
benefit with equality and public ownership (socialism). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marx is trying to convey that capitalism is a poor way for a society to operate however i can see that
this method would be more efficient and competitive, thus increasing the productivity of the economy.
Marx s idea is that property should be publicly owned, individuals should cooperate, production is
social and everything is shared equally. Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.42) said Of all the classes
that stand face to face with the Bourgeois today, the proletariat alone is a really revolutionary class
(Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.42). Marx believes this is because the laborers where the
individuals who created socialism because they wanted to fight for their rights and become equal.
They succeeded because they were the majority and therefore had a power over the Bourgeois because
with the labour there would be no capitalism. The first reason I disagree with socialism is because
price signals become distorted or absent, the market price for goods and services cannot be rationally
allocated if the individuals aren t earning income in a free market. If all individuals receive an equal
income and everything is shared then what is the incentive to work harder? If there is no incentive to
earn a higher wage then individuals may be less motivated. Decreased motivation means that there
will be a decrease in efficiency and thus a decrease in production, therefore the economy will suffer.
The last argument against socialism is that it the advancement of

I was a man broken down who gained these extraordinary powers to become free. You. You are the
opposite. You were a free man who was given extraordinary powers and now you must be broken

to shaping an individual s character, as it shows that although the hero Flash Barry Allen and Zoom
(Hunter Zolomon) faced similar experience, one individual became a hero a symbol of hope and
justice while the other became a notorious killer. The difference between Zoom and The Flash s
circumstances was that The Flash didn t witness the murder of his mother and his father wasn t the

To Write Love On Her Arms Analysis
Summary: Staples states that grace is both underserving, and absolutely needed for humankind. Grace
is not something that people ask for, or something that people can repay, but nonetheless people
receive it from God. The whole bible is about grace, but when Jesus came into the picture it showed
Christians what grace actually looked like. In Greek, grace is closely to related to the word gift,
likewise grace is a gift. Because grace is apart of God, it is not something that anyone can predict or
even get use to. Staples also points out that there are not different types of grace. It is a never ending
cycle freely given by God.
Staples addresses that works should not be misunderstood by the salvation doctrine. Just because

If I am so focused on being right in my beliefs, that I forget to focus on Jesus then I have missed the
whole point. I know that I ll never know everything, but if I m focused on loving God and others then
I achieved the main point. There is a non profit organization called To Write Love on Her Arms that I
think embodies some of the love the McKnight mentioned. This organization was founded by a
follower of Jesus who, in order to show love to his broken friend, launched this pro love organization.
They help people of all backgrounds, in various mental health and addiction problems. They provide a
judgment free place for people to heal. For me, Jesus is like this organization. Someone who is pro
love, no matter the background or problem. He provides the ultimate place of ultimate healing. He is
someone, who unlike the religious leaders of his time, helps everyday people carry out the laws. Jesus
commands two things: love God and love others. When I go on my Argentina SIMS trip this summer,
I hope I am remembered by my love. Not my knowledge of memorized scriptures from bible quizzing
days, nor my ability to always say the right things, but by my love. My family has given me great
guide lines on loving people. My mother has taught me to give love to others, and my father has
taught me how to receive love I know I do not deserve. Giving love to others, however, can be way
more difficult than it seems. Even though I know that Jesus kingdom is a kingdom of love, some days
it feels like people are trying to make it hard to love them. When this happens, it is refreshing to
realize that even when I mess up one of only two of Jesus commands, I am still fully loved by Him. It
is refreshing to know, in that same manner, when other people have trouble showing love to me, I am
still loved by

Genre Of Romantic Comedy
Genre theory is a short cut of how we define films. Genre theory is used to help simplify which
category a film is categorized. A genre is a type or category of film that can be easily identified by
specific elements of its plot, setting, mise en scène, character types, or style. Genres are not stagnant
categories. The study of their evolution is nothing short of the study of film and the filmgoing public
itself. When we break down types of film into categories, we can then observe how they have changed
over the years to reflect the tastes of the audience while retaining the elements that put them into the
genre in the first place. (Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014) One specific genre and least flexible, is romantic
comedy, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Juno goes to a clinic to have an abortion, but she cannot go through with it. Juno then finds a couple in
the penny saver of a newspaper looking to adopt a baby. Before going to meet the couple, Juno tells
her father and step mother she is pregnant. Though they are not happy about Juno s situation, they are
very supportive and even goes with her to meet the couple. The couple is very nice and has

minute, so as you can imagine you can sense their hesitation at wanting to believe all will go well with
Juno, but they take the risk anyway and agree to a private adoption. While Juno manages her

Descriptive Essay About Vacations
Our vacation started with what seemed like a week of packing when in reality it was only a day or
two. We had been thinking of and planning our trip to Yellowstone for quite a while. We were all
excited for the trip to come. It started with a long drive through Nebraska stopping at night to set up
camp and get some sleep. We were all exhausted and slept like rocks. The next morning we made
breakfast and got to driving again. As always, we stopped at various parks and rest stops to get out and
look around. That afternoon we were in dire need of showers and couldn t seem to find a campsite that
offered showers. We searched through what seemed like a thousand campgrounds. My mom and I had
pretty much given up looking at this point and were ready to resort to bucket baths. When we pulled
into the campsite it turned out to be a rather pleasant campground. There was plenty of privacy, flat
ground, trees, and of course a shower. My mom and I also were pleasantly surprised to find that the
showers were also free. While there was still daylight. We got a fire going set up our tents and looked
around a bit. When we were finally ready we all went and bathed in the glorious creation of soap and
hot running water cascading on our heads and bodies. The next day we got up, packed up our stuff,
and started on our way to our next destination. Rocky Mountain National Park. On our way there we
stopped in a little town for lunch and ate about two loaves of bread in sandwiches. As it started

Under the Night Sky, Story Excerpt
After spending a whole night under the sky, my clothing became quite dirty. Fortunately I brought
some change, but I hadn t found a place to dress myself yet. Furthermore, I also wanted to take a bath.
This morning my stomach went to a strike. Mrs. Belgium s waffles only survived for one day, so I had
to shake my brain to find food. The thing was... Where is this? If I have to describe, I was in a
glamour city. A city filled with many artistic ornaments, and people passing around the streets (that
made me feel even clumsier). In a place, I found a free newspaper stand that also provides free map,

who cares? Actually, knowing where I was now wouldn t help too much. The thing I should do
is...look for a place for obtaining money and food. I checked my bag. What should I sell now to
survive...? I decided to sell my phone. That hand phone was turned off, and the trademark (as with my
other belongings) weren t clear where it came from. People should wanting to pay this, I
suppose...though. I found an electronic shop, and obtained some buck of franc after a lot negotiating.
With that money, I went to the minimarket to buy the cheapest bread and a box of milk. Alright, for
this moment, I was saved. Now... I found a very beautiful park, and found a public toilet nearby.
Refreshed, I sat on the bench and re examined my map. Can I find my position and

Dangers In Norman Podhoretz s Looking Back AtCatch 22
However, the possible dangers are not limited to ones pertaining to physical injury. An example of this
is Yossarian s conversation with an italian family who is told that Yossarian is their dying son, wincing
and feel[ing] sick at his barefaced lie (Heller 184 185). This scenario serves as a broad implication of
moral loss and danger faced by soldiers. Their lives affect those around them and their families, and
their decisions can also weigh on their conscience. They also rely on each other, and occasionally may
form emotional ties amid all of the superficial relationships, putting a part of their soul at risk.
Reinforcing this assertion that all these conflicts are legitimate fears, Norman Podhoretz in his article
Looking Back at Catch 22 agrees that Yossarian s paranoia... [is] not a disease but a sensible response
to real dangers (Podhoretz 5). Podhoretz s assertion that Yossarian s paranoia, while humorous in its
absurdity, is legitimate illustrates the danger inherent in the common facets of everyday life,
establishing the tumultuous atmosphere in the novel. After this, Heller makes the conflict between
Yossarian much more relatable to the reader by adding in personal enemies and personal struggles to
show the individual applicability of the chaotic uncaring nature of life. The first enemy of Yossarian
embodied in an individual person is Colonel Cathcart. Thinking of ways to reduce negative
perceptions and boost commendations to himself, Cathcart decides

Consciousness is part biology, ...each state of consciousness is composed of a number of basic
psychological processes such as memory, thought, sense of time, body perception and the senses of
hearing, smell, taste, and so on , and part experience. (Wilber 52) I am going to focus on the
experience side of consciousness because it is less concrete than the genetic side. It is a concept that is
socially constructed to define an abstract phenomenon. Consciousness is the awareness of being
conscious. A theory that I believe, regarding why humans seek out altered states/consciousness, is an
evolutionary speculation. Charles Whitehead, in Altered Consciousness in Society, writes that humans

Lines of development are ...areas of knowledge that we acquire as we grow from childhood into
adulthood (Combs 35). The Spiral Dynamics of Culture chart starts at the Magical and Animistic stage
of development. Stages are typically associated with age, a child is likely to be in the Magical and
Animistic stage and believe in mystical signs, like having an imaginary friends, with great focus on
safe clans, nests, and powerful elders . A developing child who has aged and progressed from the
Magical and Animistic period is likely to be associated with the next stage, the Impulsive and
Egocentric . This includes raw power displays, immediate pleasure, and attention seeking behavior .
The Impulsive and Egocentric period is considered more developed than the stage prior. It is important
to note that people are unable to skip stages, one must endure each period, which will allow them to
have the mental capacities to enter the next developmental phase. This can be defined as the fulcrum,
the cause for people to move from one stage to another. The next phase, Purposeful and Authoritarian ,
is supposedly where the average US citizen stands on the spectrum. (Walden Lecture 11/15/16)
Aspects of this developmental period include only one right way, sacrifice for honor, and orders from

How A Company Needs Help Expand Into New Markets
A company needs funds to expand into new markets, while governments need money for everything
from infrastructure to social programs. The problem large organizations run into is that they typically
need far more money than the average bank can provide. The solution is to raise money by issuing
bonds (or other debt instruments) to a public market. Thousands of investors then each lend a portion
of the capital needed. Really, a bond is nothing more than a loan for which you are the lender. The
organization that sells a bond is known as the issuer. The bond market (also debt market or credit
market) is a financial market where participants can issue new debt, known as the primary market, or
buy and sell debt securities, known as the secondary market. This is usually in the form of bonds, but
it may include notes, bills.
A bond s price fluctuates throughout its life in response to a number of variables. When a bond trades
at a price above the face value, it is said to be selling at a premium. When a bond sells below face
value, it is said to be selling at a discount. The coupon is the amount the bondholder will receive as
interest payments. It s called a coupon because sometimes there are physical coupons on the bond that
you tear off and redeem for interest. However, this was more common in the past. Nowadays, records
are more likely to be kept electronically. The maturity date is the date in the future on which the
investor s principal will be repaid. Maturities can

Essay on Comparing Maryland and Texas
You are a product of your environment. So choose the environment that will best develop you toward
your objective. (Stone, 1962) The words stated prior by William Clement Stone have never proved to
be more accurate. A person s place of living, whether chosen, suggested, or forced, has a great affect
on their future years to come. Depending on a person s environment, they can succeed or fail; linger
around or progress. The further proceedings do not serve the purpose to knock or bring shame or favor

Texas is one of few states that are known for their delicious bar b que and food in general. I love the

Nevertheless, when I moved to Maryland, all I could find was imitation Texas bbq restaurants. To this
day, ten years after moving to Maryland, I have yet to know what food Maryland is known for; I was
told crabs. I truly despise eating crabs because it takes to much effort. Why would anyone want to
have to crack the crab leg, separate the shells from the meat repeatedly? When I m hungry, I don t
want to have to constantly crack crab legs constantly and still be hungry afterwards. With that being
said, we will now draw our attention to the offering of such delicious food; hospitality. Have you ever

violence against men. Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence, occurs between
people in an intimate relationship. Despite the common belief that domestic violence only involves a
physical altercation, it takes on many different forms including threats of abuse, emotional and sexual

14). Routes of Transmission In the laboratory setting, the virus was found in respiratory droplets,
feces, saliva, tears and urine (WHO/DCDSR, 2003). SARS is primarily spread through close, personal
contact, such as kissing, hugging, eating or drinking, as well as being within 3 feet of a person who
coughs or sneezes while infected and shedding the virus. These activities allow the respiratory
droplets shed during these activities to come in contact with mucous membranes found in the eyes,
nose and mouth (Kutsar, 2004). Other modes of transmission include aerosolizing procedures in
hospital settings and contamination of surfaces in healthcare facilities, households and other closed
environments (Kutsar, 2004, para. 12). There has been no confirmation of fecal oral transmission or of
transmission via water or food; however, over one third of the earliest cases in China were among
food handlers (Kutsar, 2004). Finally, there is a possibility of animal vector transmission, as discussed
in regards to the Hong Kong s Amoy Gardens (WHO/DCDSR, 2003). Effect of Outbreak on

In the 1960 s, there was no conclusive research done that explained why mentally disabled people
were how they were. Because of this, society casted them aside, considering them useless and a waste
of time to deal with. The mentally disabled were frequently placed in mental facilities where
conditions were awful. A young patient at a mental facility recalled a punishment he received at
Rockland County Mental Asylum in the 60 s: When we started to misbehave, they would tie us down
with icy cold wet sheets. These were the types of punishment administered to mentally disabled
people because they didn t really know what else to do with them. Another social stigma around the
mentally disabled was that they brought a sort of shame to their families. In turn, many mentally
disabled children were kept hidden by the families to avoid embarrassment, and also because no one

The Epic Decision In John Milton s Paradise Lost
In the middle of the 17th Century, one man produced a work of literature that would shock and
confuse the Christian world. John Milton, a poet and a servant of the commonwealth of England under
Oliver Cromwell, understood more than most the power of Christianity and the effects that it had on
its sympathizers. In 1667, he decided to write an epic that would justify God s actions to man, and
how sin and death came into being, through the arduous decisions made by Adam and Eve. This epic
was called Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost is a nontraditional epic in that the main decision, otherwise
known as the epic decision, was not one that agreed with the classic Christian virtues. The epic
decision of the book fell into place when Adam, knowing his eventual death, ate from the tree of
knowledge because of the love and desire that he had for Eve, knowing that he was not following God
s commands. Why does Milton incorporate such defiance into the main decision that formulates his
epic novel? Why would Milton, who is writing to a Christian society, go against common belief, and
what does the epic decision in Paradise Lost teach the Christian reader? The epic decision is the
decision in the novel, made by the protagonist, that sets the scene for the epic, and is the decision that
is made in order to instruct the people in the specific culture how to act. Compared to other epics, the
epic decision in Paradise Lost seems unordinary; but, in
actuality, the

Now we will put light on the historical development of civil legal system. Civil law term derived from
ius civile (latin). This law was applicable for all the Roman cives or citizens. Orgins and model of
civil law are to be located in the Roman monumental compilation. In sixth century CE this was

the West after decades of its creation and later it was rediscovered which created the basis for legal
education in eleventh century Italy. The sixteenth century was recognized as Corpus iuris civilis.
Throughout Europe following generations of legal scholars customized the doctrines of ancient law of
Rome in the Corpus iuris civilis for contemporary needs. Also medieval academics of church of
catholic or canon law were prejudiced by Roman law learning and they accumulated prevailing
religious legal foundations into their own comprehensive system. In middle Ages, civil and canon,
these two laws, were imparted in most universities, which shaped the foundation of a united body of
legal thought and it was shared to majority of Europe. Therefore the birth and development of the

The Social Consequences Of Heteronormativity
As children, we are indoctrinated into the social construct of heteronormativity. Based on our
biological sex at birth, we are given blue or pink clothes, play princesses or superheroes, and are told
either, cross your legs and sit like a lady or act like a man and stop crying . As adults, we watch
movies and TV shows where the husband comes home from a long day at work to greet his wife who
has just finished making dinner. Heteronormativity refers to those norms related to gender and
sexuality which keep in place patriarchy and compulsory heterosexuality as well as other systems and
ideologies related to power (Sharma 2009). Gay, lesbian, queer, homosexual, agender, androgynous,
bigender, bisexual, butch, femme, dyke, stud, lipstick lesbian, gender fluid; There are a seemingly
endless terministic screens used to label women who love women, but they all come down to one
meaning, we aren t normal. Even if any given terminology is a reflection of reality, by its very nature
as a terminology it is a selection of reality; and to this extent it must also function as a deflection of
reality (Burke 1968). Viewing lesbians through heteronormative gender roles oversimplifies complex
identities into false dichotomies.

What Does Genetic Inheritance May Influence One- Behaviour
Biological level of analysis Explain how genetic inheritance may influence one behaviour, with
reference to one relevant research study. Genetic inheritance is genes that are gain from parents or
ancestors, usually from generation to generation. Genes define characteristics in a person and are
passed down through generations; however, the environment can encourage these characteristics.
Genetic inheritance does play a role in one s behaviour also their environment. Researchers are not
quite sure on whether if genetic influence or the environment impacts one s behaviour the most.
Research done on families and how the family interacted with each other each day shows genetic
influence. The study to aid the relationship between genetic influence and conduct is the Minnesota

number of variables which included: brainpower remainder, identity and word related/professional

Essay On I Have The Right To Bear Arms
Within the past half century, gun control has become a heated debate topic between Americans.
The United States Federal government should not increase gun control regulations. The second
Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states, A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of
a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. By this, it is
understood that each citizen has the right to possess firearms and use them under the realms of a
cautious manner. This amendment was written under the intentions of protecting Americans from
dangers, both foreign and domestic. After experiencing the tyranny of Britain, Americans wanted to
ensure protection for both themselves and their loved ones from ... Show more content on

At certain points in history, gun sales to civilians have been prohibited by law. In 1976, Washington
D.C. implemented a gun ban that potentially worsened the city s homicide rate. According to the
Metropolitan Police Department, annual homicides rose from 188 in 1976 to 364 in 1988 and
continued increasing to 454 in 1993. The gun ban was struck down by the Supreme Court in District
of Columbia v. Heller and since, homicides have steadily declined to 88 annual murders in 2012. This
statistic shows that depriving the right to bear arms from law abiding citizens is ineffective in
decreasing the number of homicides as criminals will find a way to obtain a gun even with a gun ban
in place. The law abiding citizens will be left vulnerable as the criminals will have defenseless victims
to attack. The United States has attempted to put gun bans into place in the past. However, these
regulations have been repetitively ineffective. Because of the ineffectiveness of gun bans and the
overall counter result of an increase in homicides, it would be in best interest, for the safety of
Americans, to not implement an increase on Federal gun control

Effects Of Une-Con Mussolini
The Italian fascist regime between the years 1922 to 1943 provoked many changes in areas such as
education, religion, foreign influence and culture. In the film Un Tè Con Mussolini, Zeffirelli attempts
to advocate certain implications to the viewers by purposely choosing to either conceal or reveal many
of these transitions and their effects on the different sectors of Italian society. For instance, although
the central character Luca is presented to have some form of schooling the film fails to address any of
the educational procedures that the Prime Minister put in place in order to eliminate illiteracy and
allow for all children to attain a decent education. Instead of highlighting the success in this part of the
regime, Zeffirelli rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the film we see this reality in how after mid 1940 when Italy declared war on Britain and France it
was a dangerous time to be Jewish, as there were spies that would denounce them to the fascist
authorities. In addition, like Elsa, Jews who were looking for a way out the country were often
deceived and had their valuables and capital stolen, as there was an attitude similar to that of Nazi
Germany in which people believed that the Jews through scheme managed to have power and
manipulate areas of finance and politics. (127) However, what Un Tè Con Mussolini doesn t show is
that many fascists were Jews themselves and that Mussolini was never a complete anti Semite
devotee, for many people whom he admired and worked with were Jewish too, such as Margherita
Sarfatti, his long time mistress and propaganda manager. (Paul, C.E. Zaczek) In addition, to further
show his detestation towards Mussolini, the movie withholds that part of the reason why the dictator
implemented the anti Semitic policy of 1938, was due to the fact that he was under pressure to please
Hitler and gain Germany s support in Abyssinia.(115) The reason as to why Zeffirelli chooses to
conceal this is rather unclear, as it is a piece of evidence that slightly lessens Mussolini s malice and
shows a different side to him. However, through this portrayal what can be held true for certain is that
one of the director s main aims is to persuade the audience of Il Duce s

Paolaemonetes Vulgaris Case Study
Fort DeSoto Park is a protected marine environment that is next to Eckerd College, an unprotected
marine environment in Boca Ciega Bay. Palaemonetes vulgaris (common name grass shrimp) is an
invertebrate that is native to both areas. The comparison that is to be made is the average total length
of Palaemonetes vulgaris between these two environments. The alternate hypothesis is because of
human interaction occurring in the waters of unprotected areas, the Palaemonetes vulgaris will have a
shorter average total length there. The null hypothesis is there is no difference in the size of
Palaemonetes vulgaris growing in the protected vs. unprotected areas, because predators will eat all
the shrimp in both areas causing them to have the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The protected areas of Fort DeSoto will have larger specimens than the unprotected areas of Eckerd
College, because of the protection rights that Fort DeSoto has in place. Where Eckerd College is not a
protected environment the Palaemonetes vulgaris are open to over fishing areas. The results could
have different outcomes based on a change in locations where the Palaemonetes vulgaris were
sampled. Based on the results, the null hypothesis is rejected because the Palaemonetes vulgaris in
Fort DeSoto are of greater average total length (mm) than in Boca Ciega Bay at Eckerd College.
Based on the results, the alternate hypothesis is accepted, because of human interactions at Eckerd
College, the Palaemonetes vulgaris have shorter average total length (mm) than Fort DeSoto. By using
Fort DeSoto s data from 2012 (5 years ago from today, 2017) the results may have changed
dramatically in the size and quantity of the Palaemonetes vulgaris. Knowing the correct formulas and
not miss keying the information being entered in to the Excel spreadsheet will affect the out coming
results in the table. Knowing that the data from Fort DeSoto is from 5 years ago, I would want to
update that information first by recollecting the data. The direction that future research could take
would be to analysis the three different kinds of shrimp found in the areas. Based on the data

Significance of the Food and Ritual Objects Used at the Festival of Passover
Pesach also known as Passover is observed for seven days, eight outside of Israel. Pesach celebrates
the freedom for two hundred years of Egyptian slavery.
The most important part of the festival is the Sedar meal. This meal takes place, in Jewish homes on
the first night of Pesach. This meal includes a symbolic meaning and retells the story of the Israelites
escape from Egypt. Jews eat unleavened bread during this time. This is called matzah. Certain
preparations must be made for the Sedar meal and Passover. Passover starts by cleaning the house of
all chametz (leaven). This is because they believe that God commanded ... Show more content on

The Shank bone is to symbolise the Paschal lamb offered as the Passover sacrifice in biblical times. In
some communities, it is common to use a chicken neck in place of the shank bone. Vegetarian
households often use beets for the shank bone on the Seder plate. The red beets symbolize the blood of
the Paschal lamb, which was used to mark the lintel and doorposts of the houses during the first
Passover (Exodus 12:22). Any house with sign of blood was safe from the lat plague. The egg is to
symbolise a new life. The egg is usually hard boiled and then roasted and grilled. The egg also
represents how a dead feature becomes a new life, so in this case a chick. Jews believe that this is
joyful as it relates to them. Jews recite the Hallel during this time. Marror or bitter herbs are usually
freshly grated horseradish or horseradish paste. This brings tears to the eyes of the Jews, and
symbolises the sadness felt by the Jews. This reminds the Jews of slavery. Maror is used in the Seder
because of the commandment (in Numbers 9:11) to eat the paschal lamb with unleavened bread and
bitter herbs. Lettuce is also eaten in Pesach. This symbolises how first lettuce tastes nice at the
beginning and bitter at the end. This shows how the pharaoh welcomed them to Egypt, and later used
them as slaves. Charoset is a mixture of apples, nuts and spices. This symbolises all

Similarities And Differences Of The Maya And Aztec...
The Maya and Aztec civilizations are two vastly different civilizations, as is to expected, however,
despite these differences, they do share a number of similarities.
To put the obvious aside, one way the Maya and Aztec civilizations are different lies in the political
environment of both civilizations; the civilization of the Maya consisted of city states ruled by an
individual leader who was usually male, while the Aztec civilization were city states and conquered
territories ruled by one leader. However, it is within this difference that a similarity between the two
lies. While the political environments of both civilizations are indeed different, there is a similar
element contained within the two. Both the Maya and the Aztec were influenced by the Olmec
civilization through trade this includes not only artistically and religiously, but also politically; in the
pyramid temples of the Olmec, special ball courts for a game involving a rubber ball and great skill
were used for religious and political reasons, these ball courts, or at least ones similar to that of the
Olmec, were also found in the pyramid temples of the Maya and the Aztec and are believed to have
been used for similar purposes.
Another difference between the two lies in the economic climate of the two civilizations; the Aztec
were conquers that took prisoners of war and collected tribute from the peoples they conquered, which
gave them access to more resources and presumably wealth than trade alone; the

Sectionalism In The 19th Century
Henry Clay once wrote: I know of no South, no North, no East, no West to which I owe my allegiance.
The Union is my country. (Pearson) He was referring to sense of Nationalism, a feeling that people
have of being loyal to and proud of their country. Nationalism is desire to consider the greater good of
the country. When specific geographic areas put their own needs and beliefs over the entire country,
sectionalism is born. Sectionalism is an identification with a geographic section and the cultural,
social, economic, and political interests of that section. (Sectionalism Facts) Sectionalism is a loyalty
to a section, rather than the country as a whole. Sectionalism can be traced back to the Manifest
Destiny which is an opinion that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Southerners relied on slaves to produce the cotton and considered those slaves as property, but
Northerners felt that slavery was in violation of the Constitutional right to liberty, the pursuit of
happiness, and equal rights. As the country expanded west and more states were added, there were
more issues with sectionalism. When Missouri requested statehood, they wanted to be admitted as a
slave state. If they had been allowed to join, the free states would have been outnumbered. Maine also
wanted to become a free state. To keep the balance of the nation, Henry Clay suggested the Missouri
Compromise that both states be admitted at the same time to keep the balance. (Cornell, p. 214) This
action continued to keep the country divided based upon the regional attitudes of slavery, however, it
did relieve the tension of what would happen if there wasn t a balance anymore. The Compromise of
1850 included the Fugitive Slave Law which also was an act of sectionalism. (Cornell, p. 347) Under
this law, runaway slaves could not be free if they escaped to the North, but rather they must be
returned to their owners. This law created more tension between the North and South because a
Northerner could be held accountable for harboring a fugitive if they helped a slave

  • 2. America And The American Dream Land of Opportunity, Home of the Brave, and Land of the Free often come to mind when envisioning the United States for most individuals around the world. Through the media, America and the American Dream is depicted as the salvation for poverty, sorrow, and hardship. The Founding Fathers invented the American Dream, offering life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Unfortunately, an abundance of immigrants were falling short of possessing the American Dream and slowly began to realize that these alluring portrayals were merely a facade. Wealthy and influential corporations needed to revitalize the American Dream before it would dissolve amongst the masses. In order to keep American deception ongoing, a new American Dream was implemented into society. This time, it was not affecting individuals careers and lifestyles, it was affecting their identity and their consumerist behavior. The American Dream embodies the accessibility of opportunities, the longing for social acceptance, and the yearn for economic acquisition (awk). Consumerism harvests this elusive dream by perpetuating an ideology of an empty identity through media marketing, corporate imperialism, and the limitless consumption of brands that construct identity. American colonization sprouts from greed and the desire to possess a greater need. As a result, this imperialistic mindset has transformed into consumerism through abrasive expansion of many large corporations. In Bruce Forbes s Mickey Mouse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Originating with Episode 4 A New Hope, the series boomed from 1977 to 2005 with yet another addition coming in 2015. The strongest of the series was the original trilogy episodes 4, 5, and 6, all generally released in the 1980s. He describes his disapproval for the capitalists stating that there is revolt from the proletariats due to the exploitation that was taking place, this would be the same for any capitalist society. Throughout the text there is the overriding idea that society would benefit with equality and public ownership (socialism). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marx is trying to convey that capitalism is a poor way for a society to operate however i can see that this method would be more efficient and competitive, thus increasing the productivity of the economy. Marx s idea is that property should be publicly owned, individuals should cooperate, production is social and everything is shared equally. Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.42) said Of all the classes that stand face to face with the Bourgeois today, the proletariat alone is a really revolutionary class (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.42). Marx believes this is because the laborers where the individuals who created socialism because they wanted to fight for their rights and become equal. They succeeded because they were the majority and therefore had a power over the Bourgeois because with the labour there would be no capitalism. The first reason I disagree with socialism is because price signals become distorted or absent, the market price for goods and services cannot be rationally allocated if the individuals aren t earning income in a free market. If all individuals receive an equal income and everything is shared then what is the incentive to work harder? If there is no incentive to earn a higher wage then individuals may be less motivated. Decreased motivation means that there will be a decrease in efficiency and thus a decrease in production, therefore the economy will suffer. Grace is not something that people ask for, or something that people can repay, but nonetheless people receive it from God. A genre is a type or category of film that can be easily identified by specific elements of its plot, setting, mise en scène, character types, or style. Genres are not stagnant categories. The study of their evolution is nothing short of the study of film and the filmgoing public itself. When we break down types of film into categories, we can then observe how they have changed over the years to reflect the tastes of the audience while retaining the elements that put them into the genre in the first place. • 10. Descriptive Essay About Vacations Our vacation started with what seemed like a week of packing when in reality it was only a day or two. We had been thinking of and planning our trip to Yellowstone for quite a while. We were all excited for the trip to come. It started with a long drive through Nebraska stopping at night to set up camp and get some sleep. We were all exhausted and slept like rocks. The next morning we made breakfast and got to driving again. As always, we stopped at various parks and rest stops to get out and look around. That afternoon we were in dire need of showers and couldn t seem to find a campsite that offered showers. We searched through what seemed like a thousand campgrounds. My mom and I had pretty much given up looking at this point and were ready to resort to bucket baths. When we pulled into the campsite it turned out to be a rather pleasant campground. There was plenty of privacy, flat ground, trees, and of course a shower. My mom and I also were pleasantly surprised to find that the showers were also free. While there was still daylight. We got a fire going set up our tents and looked around a bit. When we were finally ready we all went and bathed in the glorious creation of soap and hot running water cascading on our heads and bodies. The next day we got up, packed up our stuff, and started on our way to our next destination. Rocky Mountain National Park. On our way there we stopped in a little town for lunch and ate about two loaves of bread in sandwiches. As it started ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Dangers In Norman Podhoretz s Looking Back AtCatch 22 However, the possible dangers are not limited to ones pertaining to physical injury. An example of this is Yossarian s conversation with an italian family who is told that Yossarian is their dying son, wincing and feel[ing] sick at his barefaced lie (Heller 184 185). This scenario serves as a broad implication of moral loss and danger faced by soldiers. Their lives affect those around them and their families, and their decisions can also weigh on their conscience. They also rely on each other, and occasionally may form emotional ties amid all of the superficial relationships, putting a part of their soul at risk. Reinforcing this assertion that all these conflicts are legitimate fears, Norman Podhoretz in his article Looking Back at Catch 22 agrees that Yossarian s paranoia... [is] not a disease but a sensible response to real dangers (Podhoretz 5). Podhoretz s assertion that Yossarian s paranoia, while humorous in its absurdity, is legitimate illustrates the danger inherent in the common facets of everyday life, establishing the tumultuous atmosphere in the novel. After this, Heller makes the conflict between Yossarian much more relatable to the reader by adding in personal enemies and personal struggles to show the individual applicability of the chaotic uncaring nature of life. • 15. How A Company Needs Help Expand Into New Markets A company needs funds to expand into new markets, while governments need money for everything from infrastructure to social programs. The problem large organizations run into is that they typically need far more money than the average bank can provide. The solution is to raise money by issuing bonds (or other debt instruments) to a public market. Thousands of investors then each lend a portion of the capital needed. Really, a bond is nothing more than a loan for which you are the lender. The organization that sells a bond is known as the issuer. The bond market (also debt market or credit market) is a financial market where participants can issue new debt, known as the primary market, or buy and sell debt securities, known as the secondary market. This is usually in the form of bonds, but it may include notes, bills. A bond s price fluctuates throughout its life in response to a number of variables. When a bond trades at a price above the face value, it is said to be selling at a premium. When a bond sells below face value, it is said to be selling at a discount. The coupon is the amount the bondholder will receive as interest payments. It s called a coupon because sometimes there are physical coupons on the bond that you tear off and redeem for interest. Because of this, society casted them aside, considering them useless and a waste of time to deal with. The mentally disabled were frequently placed in mental facilities where conditions were awful. A young patient at a mental facility recalled a punishment he received at Rockland County Mental Asylum in the 60 s: When we started to misbehave, they would tie us down with icy cold wet sheets. These were the types of punishment administered to mentally disabled people because they didn t really know what else to do with them. • 30. The Epic Decision In John Milton s Paradise Lost In the middle of the 17th Century, one man produced a work of literature that would shock and confuse the Christian world. John Milton, a poet and a servant of the commonwealth of England under Oliver Cromwell, understood more than most the power of Christianity and the effects that it had on its sympathizers. In 1667, he decided to write an epic that would justify God s actions to man, and how sin and death came into being, through the arduous decisions made by Adam and Eve. This epic was called Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost is a nontraditional epic in that the main decision, otherwise known as the epic decision, was not one that agreed with the classic Christian virtues. The epic decision of the book fell into place when Adam, knowing his eventual death, ate from the tree of knowledge because of the love and desire that he had for Eve, knowing that he was not following God s commands. Why does Milton incorporate such defiance into the main decision that formulates his epic novel? Why would Milton, who is writing to a Christian society, go against common belief, and what does the epic decision in Paradise Lost teach the Christian reader? The epic decision is the decision in the novel, made by the protagonist, that sets the scene for the epic, and is the decision that is made in order to instruct the people in the specific culture how to act. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, annual homicides rose from 188 in 1976 to 364 in 1988 and continued increasing to 454 in 1993. The gun ban was struck down by the Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller and since, homicides have steadily declined to 88 annual murders in 2012. This statistic shows that depriving the right to bear arms from law abiding citizens is ineffective in decreasing the number of homicides as criminals will find a way to obtain a gun even with a gun ban in place. This law created more tension between the North and South because a Northerner could be held accountable for harboring a fugitive if they helped a slave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
