Ted Talk
What exactly is considered a real word and what s not?
Is the English language being looked down upon due to the way newer generation are using the
language?
These are some of the questions that come up when I saw the Ted Talk What makes a word real ? by
Anne Curzan. Due to new generations, society have been using words or phrases that many elders
would find it as degrading the English language. As new generations come, older generations would
disapprove on how the English language is being used. New words are being made up, and the use of
speaking is being used as improper . However who determines the proper way of speaking?
In a Ted Talk discussing the usage of the English language, What makes a word real ? by Anne Curzan,
she answers the question, Who defines what goes into the dictionary? In her Ted Talk she describes how
dictionaries work. The way dictionaries have no author, and how they are timeless. As an English
professor who specializes in language, who collect words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Curzan discusses about a word that dictionary editors were considering in adding into the dictionary.
Which was the word YOLO, you only live once, an acronym that became a popular slang word in 2011
due to famous hip hop artist. Furthermore, there are different kinds of slang, which is a type of English
in America that spread with music.
There is a variety of English, for example colloquialism. Colloquialism and slang may seem similar to a
certain extent. These words are alike because they both mean a word or phrase that is not formal or
improper english. However, colloquialism is standard english and slang is not. Slang is normally being
used in certain society groups such as teenagers. Also colloquialism enriches the language and slang
would degrade it.
Furthermore, YOLO is considered as slang and the dictionary editors are looking out for this word

Essay How the Elderly Cope with the Death of a Spouse
Ever noticed an elderly couple performing normal daily activities and think to yourself, what would
they do without one another? Many of us have elderly relatives who are either married or have someone
with whom they have a tight bond with, such as a best friend, and we believe they keep each other
alive. We are all born to die, but how we cope with death is different. When someone dies, persons
affected may feel depressed, sad and even angry. Looking at death from a different perspective, such as
a loved one going to a better place, instead of a loss can cause relatives to celebrate. This is usually the
case when the cause of death is natural. When death of a spouse is because of a traumatic event, love
ones are left with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Loneliness can be part of the grieving process in such cases where no one can empathize with you.
Loneliness can be prevented by having relatives or friends participate in daily activities such as dinner,
shopping, providing entertainment, and holding conversations. A lonely person may choose not to eat,
bathe and take care of their health because their self worth has diminished. Correspondingly, a person
may avoid going out and isolate themselves. Therefore, it is so important to have someone to check on
a grieving elderly person. Following the death of a companion, the older adult may suddenly become
unhealthy. Elderly widowed people experience a profound degree of loneliness, which has been found
to cause an increase in the level of medical care, medications and mortality (Howie Mcintyre, 2002).
The health of that adult was most likely maintained by the relationship with the now deceased because
they felt they had something to live for. Also, the deceased person could have been providing financial
stability to help pay for medication and food. Now that those resources are taken away, the health of the
older adult may deteriorate increasing stress levels, which in return can present the onset of many health
issues. In addition, when the score (0 76) of ICG is high 6 months after spousal death, the

Character Analysis Of The Snow In Trapped, By Michael...
It was one of those bull s eyes in history, one of those points where everything comes together, where, if
you were at that place at that time, you were part of something big. It meant that we weren t going to
get picked up, not on that day and maybe not ever (Northrop 1). The mood created by Northrop in
Trapped is displayed to the readers as negative vibe. Being trapped at a school in a blizzard is obviously
not a good thing. So, as a visual representation to the teenagers situation, the snow is described
negatively too. In the book Trapped, Michael Northrop uses the snow to symbolize dreadful times and
loneliness. Throughout the text, Michael mentions the snow. Considering the book s about a blizzard,
that d be normal, right? However, in my view, the snow symbolizes something, like dreadful times.
Scattered around, the context surrounding the snow can be interpreted as how you feel during those
times. For example, later in the book, when the students realize just how bad it is, they explain it as,
There was no higher ground, no place left for us to go (Northrop 158). Here, a relation to people feeling
as if there s nowhere else to go, so they re trapped in the horrible event occurring can be made. Results
tend to be mourning over those poor times in people s lives. Similarly, Michael connects that to how we
view bad situations. Early on in the book, description of the snow is showed as it being small flakes ,
like grains of sugar... the flakes had fattened up and

The Dark Side Of The Black Eyes
Sam s broken sneakers never left the dirty, cold ground as he gently pours the icy clear water into the
rusty cans. He crouches next to the door quietly maneuvering his nimble hands around the once smooth
iron bars. He peers at the eyes glaring back at him. The black eyes are like the black holes of the
universe, swallowing the light that seeps from the cracks of the door. Sam softens his gaze as the
creature has won this battle. He suddenly inhales the dry air and shutters as the pain from his heart
dissipates. The presence of blood lingers above his taste buds and fills his nostrils. Sam s tongue twists
and turns in the desert the tongue lives in. Ahh! shouts Sam as he hurls the water bucket against the
wall. His nail digs into the palm of his hands as his breathing slows and his eyelids surrender to gravity.
The ceiling sent a soft white glow throughout the room to scare the darkness out of the corners. The
walls stood to hide the dangers of outside. A collage of wool each dusted with short golden strands of
hair covered the ground. A boy sat with his legs out in the middle of the room as a dog circled around.
The sound of laughter and panting combined into a symphony of bad notes. The boy reached out to
grab the soft golden hairs that blurred past him, but fell back into the cloud of fabric. The dog stopped
and stood over the child. The smile wiped from the dogs face as he searched for a tear, but he found a
smile instead. The dog s tail ran wild, releasing a new

Economic Overview In Auto Industry Essay
Economic Overview of the Automotive Industry
The automotive industry is without a doubt an industry that has massive implications relating to the
United States economy as well as affecting every American household. Shifts in the supply and demand
of automobiles influence the current and future household purchases. Households must determine what
amount of their hard earned income to allocate to certain necessities. Because most households have a
budget, the amount spent on transportation it limited. While most industries have an effect on the
economy, the automotive industry has far reaching implications for most Americans. Not only are the
workers affected but the many spin off jobs created as well as the consumers that must ... Show more

Few American households live without some form of transportation. The amount of money spent on the
transportation proves whether the automobile is a necessity or a luxury. Higher priced models sell more
when the economy is stronger. When the economy is slow lower cost cars are more popular.
Transportation as a whole is a necessity. The form of the transportation is what determines if it is a
luxury. (Collier, 1981) The fluctuations in the supply and demand of automobiles have an effect on
other industries. One such industry that is affected in a measurable way is the after market automobile
parts industry. When the demand for new automobiles is high the demand for after market parts is
lower. When the demand for new automobiles is low the demand for after market parts rises. The only
explanation is uncovered when looking at individual households. Individual households have a limited
amount of money to budget for transportation. If new cars are in high demand the income is higher for
individual households. If new cars are not in high demand individual households have less money to
budget for transportation. With less money to budget for transportation, individuals are more likely to
use after market parts to make repairs on their existing vehicle rather than purchase a new vehicle when
their current vehicle needs costly repairs. The cost to repair a vehicle is far less than the cost to purchase
a new vehicle. (Lamonica,

A Geographical Place Through Visual And Narrative...
Food has the ability to transport you to other countries, different times, and completely new
experiences. The effectiveness of film to create a geographical place through visual and narrative
portrayal of food will be explored through the elaboration on three movies: Haute Cuisine, Ratatouille,
and Chocolat. The movies explored in this essay are all set in France and have various levels of
effectiveness when it comes to creating a sense of geographical place through visual and narrative
portrayal on film. While all these movies are set in France, some proved to be more superior than others
in terms of successfully portraying French food through film. The purpose of this paper is to highlight
the different levels of accomplishment on successfully portraying location through visual and narrative
portrayal of food. Each film was individually assessed under the same visual and narrative context and
was judged in terms of effectiveness in portrayal and ability to transport the viewer.
Haute Cuisine is a French film following the journey of the French president s personal cook and the
ups and downs she faces while working in the Élysée palace. The movie is every food lover s dream
and does a remarkable job at making viewers salivate just from the sight of the haute French cuisine.

perhaps overlooked is the ability of these images to directly

The Transgender Population In The United States
To really discuss the history of the transgender population, perhaps first it is important to define what
exactly transgender is. In a poll conducted by transgender activist Leslie Feinberg, the transgender
population seems to define itself as a group of individuals comprised of anyone who challenges the
boundaries of sex and gender . The transgender umbrella, according to Feinberg, includes: transsexuals,
transvestites, bigenders, drag queens, drag kings, cross dressers, masculine women, feminine men,
intersexuals, passing men and women, and androgynes. With this definition of transgender in mind,
transgender individuals throughout history have served as both religious figures and leaders in the
entertainment industry, playing key roles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In October of 1897, under police chief Jesse Brown Cook, the San Francisco Police made 11 arrests for
cross dressing ( #TBT ), which was illegal in most places well into the latter half of the 20th century.
While the media did not cover any of these arrests, the media did cover transgender individuals in the
entertainment industry, such as Omar Kingsley and Vesta Tilly ( #TBT ). Jesse Cook himself was an
avid fan of drag and theater, even performing some himself, however, he led ruthless police attacks on
the transgender population of San Francisco. The freak factor, for a lack of a better term, that trans
individuals in entertainment brought was a major point of public interest, freak shows frequently
included those that blurred the boundaries of the modern binary gender system, and dime shows

The Consequences Of Jutigment In Twelve Angry Men
In society, we have an obligation to our community to defend it by using judgment to determine a
person s innocence or guilt. It is a civic responsibility to make an informed decision that is determined
based on evidence to help come to a logical conclusion. This essay argues that judgment in Twelve
Angry Men is addressed by the jury who think rationally against a 16 year old kid facing the death
sentence.
It looks at the gender and ethnicity of the jury and suggests that the environment the jurors are placed in
forwards their own judgment on themselves, making judgment become an empathetic experience.
The placement of 12 men in a jury shows inconsistency towards female s input upon what judgment
should be made for the accused. Inserting 12 men together only evokes testosterone against one another
affecting their critical thinking and causing drama. For Juror, 7 judgment is a fast process and is
addressed in the drama as Rose (121) states that, 7th Juror, Listen, I ll tell you something. I m a little
sick of this whole thing already. All this yakkin s gettin us nowhere so I m going to break it up here. I m
changing my vote to not guilty. 11th Juror, What kind of man are you? You have sat here and voted
guilty with everyone else because there are some baseball tickets burning a hole in your pocket .
The drama is now directed away from the accused of murder and now towards Juror 7 that shows irony
towards the relevance of importance. It is from the example above we see

Green River Killer By Gary Leon Ridgway
Green River Killer Gary Leon Ridgway Elizabeth Sabie Florida International University Green River
Killer Gary Leon Ridgway In the summer of 1982, while playing in the woods, children found the body
of a young teen was floating in the Green River in King County, Washington. Sixteen year old Wendy
Lee Coffield was found strangled with her own panties and tossed into the river like a piece of refuse.
Her murder sparked an investigation that spanned three decades. Coffield s body was the first of many
found in or near the Green River in a murder spree that remained unsolved for twenty years. The
victims were young women, often prostitutes or runaways, who hitchhiked along Highway 99, a
dilapidated stretch of the Sea Tac Highway known for its strip clubs, drugs, and seedy motels
(Montaldo). While the majority of the murders occurred between 1982 1984, police had little success in
tracking what they soon realized was a serial killer. Within a year the police had found four more bodies
of young women, and they formed a task force to apprehend the Green River Killer. It became apparent
that the killer had chosen this stretch of highway to hunt for his victims. The women found here lived in
such ways that no one really noticed if they went missing. This proved even more problematic for the
task force, because they were searching for a killer who had committed the murders months prior. The
bodies had decomposed and it was extremely difficult

Why Should We Save the Dolphins? Final Draft
By: Emily Chang
Class: 6(2)
Subject: English
Teacher: Mr. Kris(Smith)
Imagine you are a dolphin swimming happily in the ocean with the other dolphins. Suddenly, you hear
something terrible, and that makes you feel extremely uncomfortable. You swim towards somewhere
safe to get away from that terrible sound. However, when you get in, you realize it is a trap! You have
been caught! You might be sent to an aquarium or killed to be made into sushi. This unfortunate fate is
not a dream, but it is a sad reality for hundreds of thousands of innocent dolphins. They are endangered
of becoming extinct and their main predators are us, humans. Our society needs to do something to
preserve and protect our precious dolphins. Dolphins should be saved because they are an endangered
species, it is cruel to kill such intelligent animals and they are not even safe to eat.
Dolphins: An Endangered Species There are many kinds of dolphins in the world. The most common
one that we see in theme parks, aquariums and movies is the Bottlenose Dolphin. Fortunately for us,
this is one of the few species of dolphins that are not yet endangered. However, there are many other
different species of dolphins that are endangered. For example, the Baiji Dolphins, Chilean ... Show

This is a sad situation because we could have and should have prevented this. If we do not save the

How Is The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber
Set on an African Safari in the early 1900s, Ernest Hemingway s The Short Happy Life of Francis
Macomber tells the story of a young man and wife, Francis and Margot Macomber, and their English
guide, Robert Wilson, on a hunting trip gone awry. This essay will show how Hemingway s character
tied into the story itself.
Francis Macomber is described as very tall, very well built... and considered handsome (Hemingway).
He and his wife, Margot, clearly do not have a very healthy relationship, and on various occasions she
flirts heavily with Wilson. This story is quite ironic, as in the title it says Francis Macomber s life was
happy, though throughout the story you can see that it very much isn t. He seems to be miserable in his
relationship with his wife but as later on stated, Margot was too beautiful for Macomber to divorce, and
Macomber had too much money for Margot to ever leave him (Hemingway). On the topic of irony, it
can also be seen as ironic when he is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macomber felt utter disgust for Wilson. Every time Wilson spoke, Macomber threw back daggers for
words. It annoyed Wilson, for he was unphased by the fact that Macomber knew Wilson had been with

out, Macomber spotted three large buffalo. Wilson told him, We ll cut them off before they get to the
swamp. They both got their guns ready, where Macomber almost began to shoot from his position in the
car before being shouted at by Wilson. They jumped out of the vehicle as it came to a bolting stop,
aimed, and began shooting. Macomber struck the first one down, and with the help of Wilson,
eventually the other two. Margot was awe struck, telling Macomber how marvelous he had done.

Persuasive Research Paper On Textbooks In Schools
Publishing for the K 12 school market is an $8 billion industry, with three companies McGraw Hill,
Pearson, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt capturing about 85% of this market. Tablets are a $72 billion
industry with 42% of US adults owning a tablet. As tablets have become more prevalent, a new debate
has formed over whether K 12 school districts should switch from print textbooks to digital textbooks
on tablets. Although it is true and inevitable that Tablets help students better prepare for a world
immersed in technology, there are numerous reasons installing tablets in K 12 schools is not very
practical. Tablets are expensive, too distracting for students, easy to break, and costly/time consuming
to fix. Tablets also contribute to eyestrain, headaches, and blurred vision, increase the excuses available
for students not doing their homework, require costly Wi Fi networks, and become quickly outdated as
new technologies are released.
Handheld technological devices including tablets are associated with a range of health problems.
Handhelds contribute to Computer Vision Syndrome, which causes eyestrain, headaches, blurred vision,

Weber s Stress On The Formal Aspect Of Organization
This model has been thoroughly critiqued. Many scholars have pointed out that Weber s stress on the
formal aspect of organization in fact ignored the informal structure of relationships which represent the
reality of organizational life. Goal displacement, where rules become an end in themselves is an
instance of an unwanted result of this rule bound method. Parsons highlights the potential rivalry which
may arise between a bureaucrat s authority correlated to his rank in the hierarchy, and that taken from
technical expertise (Parsons, 1960). Other members of the organization will not know who s orders to
follow regarding the mismatch the person with the appropriate command or an individual possessing
greater expertise. (Gouldner, 1959), determines that individuals take their own ideologies into the
workplace, which eventually affect bureaucracy, making the concept of a value free bureaucracy rather
doubtful.
During the 1980 s and 1990 s the New Public Management approach placed focus on the economy,
efficiency and effectiveness of government organizations, instruments and programs, and higher quality
service delivery. This new model of public sector management, often regarded by many authors as not a
reform of the traditional public administration, but a transformation of the public sector and its
relationship with government and society (Hoos, J., G.Jenei and L. Vass, 2003) emerged in the most
advanced countries in addition to many developing ones.

How Is Cronus Selfish
The Greek God, Cronus was a devilish one. While being one of the smartest gods, Cronus still fell for a

Frances Ha, released in 2012, is a film primarily focused on a young quirky white girl named Frances
who lives in New York City and is trying to figure out what she is supposed to be in her life. The film is
edited together as a series of montages that display her appealing character moving through a dark
period in her life where she is having trouble functioning as an adult, to where she discovers and
embraces what is in herself that she excels at. Nearly all of the scenes in the film have Frances as the
lead subject, only cutting away from her to show activities that are proceeding around her. Greta
Gerwig s unique professional career and personal life made her perfect for the lead role as Frances, a
character full of hopefulness, spontaneity and quirkiness. Although Greta s performance appears on the
surface to be improvisational, an examination of her background, use of body language and

Sanbar Number Book Report
Behind every relationship, there lies a much more complex scientific explanation of the number of
friends one has. The Dunbar Number is the suggested limit to the number of individuals one can carry a
secure relationship with. Accordingly, this number is one hundred and fifty relationships, where a
person knows and appreciates every other person in this circle and how they relate to each other within
the circle. Although social media can acquaint one to individuals from a wide range of communities, it
does not have the capabilities of forming meaningful relationships, causing a limit to the number of
connections one can have. Nevertheless, the number was around in the past, is relevant today, and will
still be prevalent in the future. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Harari talks about a gossip theory. In this theory, the Sapiens ability to talk about one
another behind each other s back is, believe it or not, essential for bands of people to work together.
This new skill meant that people could form new bonds of trust after they received reliable information
or gossip. Furthermore, this was how small groups of people turned into large tribes because this use of
gossip to form trust allowed for a tighter and more sophisticated type of cooperation (Harari 24). One
might ask, well how is this connected to the Dunbar Number? Well, the number of people who can
occupy a group has a clear limit. If the number of individuals exceeds the natural limit, all social order
could diminish. The limit of people in a group that has come together through gossip is one hundred
and fifty people. In other words, there is no one for someone to know on an intimate level, or gossip
about more than 150 people, which also happens to be the Dunbar number (Harari 27). Outside of this
hundred and fifty, everyone else is a stranger. Likewise, this number as a form of cooperation can be
witnessed in more recent history as

The Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting
The reason for the numerous amounts of reformed gun laws in the past century are due to the United
States history of deadly massacres. Gun violence has always been a hot topic because of constant
crimes involving firearms over the years. Recent history has alluded even more debate to possibly
create or reform even more gun laws. In the story of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, the New
York Times addressed what had happened. This shooting killed twenty six people, twenty in which
were children ranging from the ages of five to ten years old. Adam Lanza, who ended up committing
suicide, was identified as the gunman who was armed with semiautomatic pistols and a semiautomatic
rifle. Another example is from the Los Angeles Times that covered a 2012 Colorado shooting in a
movie theater. The gunman, suspected to be James E. Holmes, killed twelve people and injured dozens
more in the shooting in a packed movie theater in Aurora. Authorities said Holmes was dressed in full
body armor and used a form of tear gas on the crowd before opening fire with multiple guns. In
addition, the most recent shooting occurred on May 2014 in Isla Vista near the University of Santa
Barbara. This shooting resulted in seven deaths, thirteen wounded, and the murderer himself a gunshot
wound to his head. He used three semiautomatic handguns and more than four hundred rounds of
ammunition at his side. The recent history of shooting massacres is only a sample size of the whole
history of gun violence in

INTRODUCTION
Risk management is an action which incorporates acknowledgment of risk, risk evaluation, creating
procedures to oversee it, and moderation of risk utilizing administrative assets. Some customary risk
managements are centred on risks coming from physical or lawful causes (e.g. characteristic
catastrophes or flames, mishaps, demise). Budgetary risk management, then again, concentrates on risks
that can be overseen utilizing exchanged monetary instruments. Goal of risk management is to lessen

Cortisol Research Paper
Cortisol production is stimulated by ACTH secretion from the anterior pituitary via numerous feedback
mechanisms according to the circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the early morning and smaller
fluctuations throughout the day. ACTH secretion is stimulated by CRH in the hypothalamus which is
stimulated by things such as: decreases in plasma cortisol, hypoglycemia, stress, and infection.
Secretion of ACTH leads to conversion of cholesterol to cortisol in the zona fasciculata of the adrenal
gland via various cytochrome P450 enzymes. Increased levels of cortisol itself cause negative feedback
on the pituitary and hypothalamus. The zona glomerulosa is the site of production of Aldosterone, the
principal mineralocorticoid, via similar mechanisms (cytochrome p 450.) Aldosterone production is
stimulated by activation of the renin angiotensin system in response to decreased intravascular volume
(sensed by baroreceptors), decreased sodium levels sensed in the macula densa of the nephron, and by
the sympathetic nervous system in response to stress.

Taking a Look at Flu H5N1
################################################# Part 2
################################### There are multiple different sources for epidemiological
measures used for tracking and reporting the number of cases. There are websites where you can go to
post confirmed cases in areas, where that information is then taken and calculated. There are also places
that provide charts for the amount of confirmed outbreaks and then separates them from human cases
and avian cases. But the best types of reports available are the map tracking ones. Where they give
distinction marks for avian and human cases and all over the different areas of the world. This is very
handy for seeing how bad and large an outbreak is and what species is affected, whether it is humans or
birds. The incidence rate is a measure of morbidity and number of infected worldwide, looking over the
past 10 years. Over the past ten years there have 650 infected.(Yu Chan, 2014). This is not a large
number because of the fact it is not spread through human to human contact but through already
infected poultry. The prevalence rate is the number of current/existing cases worldwide. The United
States has yet to have a confirmed outbreak because we set such high regulations on the meat we sell in
our markets, thus preventing a large outbreak from hitting our country. The mortality rate is the number
of deaths caused by the H5N1 virus worldwide. For

Essay Investigating Air Pollution
Investigating Air Pollution
There are many different types of air pollutant. These pollutants have different effects on the
environment and on our health. Some, directly because they are harmful chemicals and others because
they can react together to produce harmful chemicals. Other pollutants or pollutant combinations upset
the natural balance of acidity and nitrogen in the environment which can affect the diversity of species
in sensitive areas. Other pollutants can contribute to changing global conditions and potentially give
rise to dramatic changes in climate and sea level.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a toxic gas which is emitted into the atmosphere as a result of combustion
processes, and is also formed by the oxidation of hydrocarbons and other organic compounds. In
European urban areas, CO is produced almost entirely (90%) from road traffic emissions. It survives in
the atmosphere for a period of approximately one month but is eventually oxidised to carbon dioxide
(CO2).
Nitrogen Dioxide. Nitrogen oxides are formed during high temperature combustion processes from the
oxidation of nitrogen in the air or fuel. The principal source of nitrogen oxides nitric oxide (NO) and
nitrogen dioxide (NO2), collectively known as NOx is road traffic, which is responsible for
approximately half the emissions in Europe. NO and NO2 concentrations are therefore greatest in urban
areas where traffic is heaviest. Other important sources are power stations, heating plants and industrial
processes.
Ground level ozone (O3), unlike other pollutants mentioned , is not emitted directly into the
atmosphere, but is a secondary pollutant produced by reaction between nitrogen dioxide (NO2),
hydrocarbons and sunlight. Ozone levels are not as high in urban areas (where high levels of NO are
emitted from vehicles) as in rural areas. Sunlight provides the energy to initiate ozone formation;
consequently,

Indescribable Literary Analysis
Perhaps the most strikingly recognizable Absurd characteristic the audience encounters is Beckett s
distinctively ambiguous setting. The stage, divided into two halves by a tree, changes little from Act I to
Act II; there is little difference in the barren setting, other than a few leaves sprouting from the lonely
tree. The passage of time is also indeterminate, so instead of a progression of events within an
identifiable setting, the entire action takes place during an unspecified time on a desolate country road,
reminiscent of a hellish Dantesque landscape. Lois Cuddy contends, The tree, leafless and otherwise, is
only placed in this setting as one of the illusions intended to keep the characters questioning time and

On April 11, 2017, a report was filed through the Honor Code indicating my involvement in a cheating

are not limited to, the restriction of cheating, cell phone use, plagiarism, and resubmission.

I have truly learned a lot about myself, morality and ethics, and the importance of integrity as a result of
this incident. This was a one time incident that occurred due to laziness and lack of respect I had for
myself, my abilities, and for the class. This will never occur again and I have truly learned my lesson.
Consequently, I have changed my behavior. I now believe in the importance of studying rather than
winging it, honoring myself and my class rather than getting by, and learning the material for the sake
of knowledge rather than to just pass it.
The Honor Code policies at various public universities hold striking similarities, and obvious
differences, to the policies set in place at the University of Colorado Boulder. To commence, the Honor
Code pledge at Colorado State University mirrors CU s pledge almost precisely: I have not given,

CSU deals with academic misconduct vary drastically from CU s means of chastising students. In my
experience with the cheating infraction, my TA, Mona Bdewi, did not address or warn me before going

the chance to explain my side. Neither the TA, nor my Professor, allowed me the opportunity to explain

Traditional And Modern Medicine
Several treatment methods have been used by humans for cure diseases over the centuries. Two of the
treatment methods are traditional medicine and modern medicine. In fact, these two types of treatment
methods share the same objective from different approaches. Traditional medicine can be defined as
health practices based on the use of plants, plants extracts and animals. It is a theory with a non
scientific approach used to treat illness in the contrary of modern medicine which is a health practices
based on the use of pharmaceutical drugs. It is a scientific approach used to diagnose, prevent and treat
illness. Although traditional and modern medicine are similar in some ways, the differ in cost, side
effects and availability.
Traditional and modern medicine share the same curative objective which implies that they have
similarities from a general point of view. Both medicine is using plants extracts but in different aspects.
Though traditional medicine is based on the use of plants and herbs, modern medicine uses many herbs
and plant derivative based on biological and chemical aspect as well. Many common drugs are derived
from plant based sources directly or indirectly. Moreover, traditional and modern medicine have both
side effects. They could be harmful or ineffective for a human body if the dosage is not well calculated,
in this case we run the risk of over or under dose. Also, many side effects can occur from the interaction
of both medicine. Traditional and

Coal Mining In West Virginia Essay
Before 1890 in West Virginia, you would not be able to see any signs of coal mining. However, after
1890 coal mining surged due to new legislative representatives favoring the use of land in an industrial
sense. Coal mining was now dominating the southern region of West Virginia. In the beginning, coal
mining did not seem to have many effects on the people or land; but, eventually people became very
aware of the negative consequences that came from coal mining. People are now aware that coal mining
in West Virginia was almost entirely detrimental to the environment as well as the community.
Throughout West Virginia, everyone agreed there was a large amount of air pollution from coal mines.
These air pollutants were so bad in the 1990s that the Clean Air Act was enacted. However, this act had
unforeseen consequences of its own. Coal companies began to need much more readily available coal.
So, they mined coal that was closer to the surface by using mountaintop removal. This resulted in a
decrease in jobs for miners because this was a much easier and efficient way of removing coal. The
many jobs that were originally created by coal mining were now being cut. Now numerous people in
West Virginia were left unemployed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Blaise Pascal, A 17Th Century Philosopher Known For His
Blaise Pascal, a 17th century philosopher known for his work Pensées, or The Thoughts, serves as a
voice of human limitation. Throughout his aphorisms, he clearly expresses the limitations of man as he
refers to man s inconstancy, boredom, [and] anxiety and claims that man should know [his] nothingness
(Pascal 33, 28) Pascal holds a pessimistic view towards man s position in the world and ultimately
deems man to be utter(ly) worthless (Pascal vii). Pascal s disappointment towards the limitations of
mankind ultimately causes him to contradict the beliefs of Descartes who strives to find just one thing,

Infinitely far from grasping the extremes, the end of things and their beginning are for him invincibly
hidden in an impenetrable secret; and he is equally incapable of seeing the nothingness out of which he
is drawn, and the infinite in which he is swallowed up. (Pascal 5) Pascal views the human condition
through a substantially dark, pessimistic perspective. He believes man holds an incredibly insubstantial
position in the world, for he is limited in all respects and merely occupies a sort of mid position
between nothing and everything (Pascal 7). Man lives a short life that stands as a mid point between the
eternity that precedes him and the eternity that will follow him. Man has no way of knowing for certain
what came before him or what will come after him; after all, how could such a small, fragile,
perishable, and limited thing have any certain knowledge of anything vast, imperishable, and
unlimited? The nature of man is to be nothing more than a part of a whole, and if man studied himself,
he would see how incapable he is of going beyond himself (Pascal 8). Man, according to Pascal, refuses
to accept his puniness and limitations. We refuse to accept that our very nature is minuscule and limited
in the grand scheme of eternity. Is not the duration of our life still infinitesimal within eternity, even if
ten years be added to it? (Pascal 8). Unlike the infinite, we are finite, perishable

Emerson Metaphors
Everyone in this planet called Earth, has their own different ways of expressing feelings, different
learning strategies, and different talents. In this piece of writing, Emerson explains how and why
independence is what has created today s society. Emerson explains these thoughts by using metaphors,
common sense, similes and imagery. Emerson starts off by stating that everyone is very common but
also very different. For example, when Emerson says, Every heart vibrates to that iron string (Pg. 591,
Line 37), he expresses that people are very similar. A matter of fact, there is an actual study that shows
when a human being listens to music, the beat of your heart goes with the rhythm of the music. This
piece of the puzzle has one powerful image. And that is an image of imagery and metaphor. Emerson
uses these two strategies because he wants to grab his audience attention by bringing what they love

591, Line 13). Here Emerson explains how every single person has control over their own lives. They
can achieve their goals and it could also go the other way. This is another way to put Emerson s quote,

understand. Another reason why Emerson wrote this piece like he did, was that we need to go with the
feeling of our gut. Because if a person thinks about a decision for too long, that person will miss your
chance. Another quote is, Let the subject be what it may (Pg. 591, Line 2). This goes hand in hand with
the recent quote stated above. No one has control over another person s life except the person who is

My Love Of Baseball
I Will Always Rationale
Boring. That is the first word that pops into someone s head when I ask them to describe this beautiful
sport. They either say the sport is too boring, too complicated, or just lengthy to both watch and play.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no doubt. But the sport of baseball is one that has always
mesmerized my brain when I play/look at it. It is perhaps the best metaphor to describe life, and also the
best metaphor to describe me.
Life is what you make of it. Baseball fits this phrase like peanut butter and jelly. Baseball immediately
popped into my head when thinking of a metaphor. There was a number of others, but I felt like
baseball truly fit the puzzle. I always pictured life as a sort of complex topic I couldn t wrap my head
around. Starting from a young age, my love for baseball has transitioned into how I live my life and
what I do. Since it is such a staple in my life, I think that it fits the I Will Always phrase better than any
other metaphor.
Baseball is a puzzle, and baseball players have to solve that puzzle. When I talked about swinging the
hardest at fastball challenges, I was talking about a common trait among all baseball players. When
standing at the mound, waiting for a pitch, despite the player knowing the skill of the pitcher, he still

Essay about Redemption and Damnation in Measure for...
Redemption and Damnation in Measure for Measure and Othello
Measure for Measure and Othello are closely related. There is a thesis antithesis bond between these
two plays. Much more than just sharing a trait or a source, the two constitute a paired study of the
processes of redemption and damnation.
Measure for Measure counterbalances Othello. Looking at the text of each play, one finds parallel and
contrasting circumstances and characteristics that would incline one to interpret each play in light of the
other. First instance: the issue of being passed over. In the opening scene of Measure for Measure
Escalus is passed over for the position of deputy in a most explicit fashion. The Duke praises Escalus as

The latter commences the destabilizing of Othello and the ensuing tragedy. Third instance: reading one
s nature in one s face. Pompey, drawing transparently upon his street wise bag of tricks to free his
client, Froth, from the charge of fornication, bids Escalus to look into Froth s face (2.1.147 156) and
condemn him if he sees any harm in it. While Pompey literally may be pointing out the lack of any
signs of syphilis on Froth s face, this comic play upon the notion that one s guilt or innocence is written
upon one s face is contrasted by the frightening scene in Othello where, desperate in his suspicions,
Othello terrifies Desdemona by staring into her face to find some confirmation for his maddening
doubts of her fidelity (4.2.25 26). Fourth instance: actual and supposed procuress. Where Isabella quite
literally serves as a procuress in the assignation of Angelo with Mariana (the supposed Isabella), Emilia
is wrongly accused by Othello of being the same for Desdemona with Cassio. Fifth instance: procuring
called a mystery. When the executioner, Abhorson, complains that his mystery (that is, his profession)
will be tainted by a bawd s being made his assistant, Pompey with disarming wit defends his former
work as a legitimate profession by explaining how it too is a mystery (painting being part of the

Orthognathic Surgery and Why It May Be Needed
Orthognathic reconstructive surgery is a procedure carried out by a oral and maxillofacial surgeon to
correct problems with the jaw. The surgery takes place in a hospital and involves the straightening and
realigning of the jaws. Templates, screws, wires, and surgical plates may be used to accomplish this
goal. Why would a person need this type of surgery and what should one expect when they opt for this
treatment option?
Why Would a Person Need Orthognathic Surgery?
Dentists often recommend a patient undergo orthognathic surgery to treat an improper bite, also known
as a severe malocclusion. This treatment is also often recommended for individuals who suffer from
TMJ or TMD. Any time the facial skeleton develops a problem during growth, the individual may find

Facial birth defects and trauma to the face may precede the need for orthognathic surgery. Others,
however, decide to have this treatment because they are not satisfied with their appearance. For
example, a person with a face that doesn t appear balanced may benefit from having the surgery and
those with lips that don t come together when the mouth is closed find they benefit from this treatment.

Fischer seems to be closer to his climbers but allows believed they deserved free rein to hike up and
down the mountain independently. However, Rob believed that his group needed to stay together during
the acclimatization period. Fischer and Hall were both good people from the bottom of their hearts.
Fischer held a fundraiser, raising half a million dollars for a charity called CARE. Rob on the other
hand cleared five tons of garbage from base camp when visiting with an old business partner. As a
result of this it turned into a money hungry reward to get other people to start cleaning up one of his

The Cartesian Theory Of Mind
René Descartes was a French philosopher responsible for many ideas and theories still used in the
philosophical world today. He earned the nickname Father of modern philosophy for his work. One of
his most in depth and lasting legacies is his mind body dualism thesis also known as the Cartesian
theory of mind.
The Cartesian theory states that there are two different types of existence, physical and mental.
Whatever exists must fall into only one of these existences and they cannot be both. This could be
compared to the two faces of a coin, where when you flip a coin it has to be either heads or tails, when
looking at the world it is either in the physical world or the mental world. Another example is how
animals are either male or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So a body s life is a public affair, much like the lives of animals and plants.
Minds, however, are different from bodies. Minds are not in space, since they do not occupy space like
a body does. Minds are part of mental existence. The processes of the mind are not subject to
mechanical laws like bodies are. Also the workings of someone s minds are not able to be witnessed by
other people, like a human body is able to be. When you use your mind and you think, imagine or feel
an emotion, other people cannot see what is going on in your mind. Since the workings of one s mind
are not able to be observed, this makes the minds life a private affair. This means that a person lives two
lives. The first is what happens to his body and the other is what happens in his mind. What happens to
the body is in the physical world while what happens in the mind is in the mental world (Ryle). The
view that physical objects are in a common field (space) and mental processes occur in a isolated field
known as the mind, is the ontological way, while the way that only our bodies can meet and we cannot
interact with each other s minds is the epistemological way. Gilbert Ryle sees that Descartes divides a
person s life into two halves, one being external and the other being internal. Every physical thing,
including the body, belong to the external half and physical world, while the

Neckties Myths
The Funny Stories Of Neckties Rather improbably, perhaps, the necktie may have originated with the
ancient Egyptians. Wrapped around the neck and a long rectangular fabric is hanging on the shoulder. It
is similar to a short shawl and that is the prototype of neckties in the legend. This accessory has very
important implication which represents the wearer s social status in ancient Egypt. Not the ordinary
civilians, only the noble is eligible to wear it. Of ancient Egypt the modern tie is the derivative of a
conceptual product which is a symbol of the feudal system in a sense. Inherited through the necktie
evolution, it represents a clear class differentiation. There are even more stories on the neckties in the
Europe among which the British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the old legend the wars were frequent in Europe. In 1688, King Louis XIV in France started the
war to Austria. At that time the Austrian soldiers wore a white scarf around the neck as an identity. The
Croatta scarf was a favorite of the king. Louis even created his own scarf and wore it around the castle.
After a while, he was bored by the plain style of Croatta so he began to make a new design for the scarf,
such as adding the embroidery lace and tying a butterfly knot. As Louis set the example by adopting
this accessory, it became all the rage at court. Furthermore, as soon as the trend spread to the Army,
everyone began to follow it. King Louis did a lot for Croatia since an army has Croatta s name. For the
necktie development in the history the promotion by the king Louis is very important. Had King Louis
XIV not embraced this fashion, neckties might not be worn today. The king had no idea how important
his promotion for the modern fashion within next hundreds of years. The Croatta has been evolved into
two categories in the current fashion industry: One is the bow tie from the upward development and the
other is the necktie with the downward

Growing Regions
Construct a map to illustrate the spatial distribution of growing regions globally
Describe any correlation you have found between the spatial distribution of the food staple growing
region and global biomes
90% of all rice is grown in asia, in irrigated and upland areas of not only asia but west africa and central
and south america. The rice in these countries are grown close to equator in grasslands areas the reason
grasslands are used for farming of rice is because it s a perfect mix of cool and hot climates which is
great for growth and they are predominantly large and expansive biomes perfect for growing crops on a
large scale. It can be grown up to and around 3000 meters
Explain how environmental factors (temperature, water availability, soils and topography) influence the
yield of the food staple.
Rice is grown upland so that water can flow down and irrigate all the rice below it and not overwater
the plants, rice can have low productivity in some areas as soil can be poor and little fertiliser is used.
Rainfall can be inconsistent and cause either drought or erosion of the hill side preventing growth. Rice
needs to be grown in areas where nighttime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rice is very dependant on water and uses 2 and a half times as much water as other crops, this means
drought and water scarcity is a huge problem. Flooding is also as big as a problem as rice grows on
sloping rice paddies that are vulnerable to flooding because the water flows downhill meaning erosion
affects all the crops. Urbanisation is somewhat of a problem because rice can be grown in a wide
variety of places and the countries that export the most rice have station the farms far enough away that
it won t be a problem for a long

The Emotional Effects Of Emotional Motivational Theory
The Emotional Motivational Theory contributes to the ongoing criminological debate while answering
what exactly causes humans to commit crime. It also highlights how crime should be handled and
prevented by studying the basic human mind and its functions. I created the Emotional Motivational
Theory because it relates to every individual on earth in aspects of human interactions. The theory is
based off of the seven emotions we as humans exhibit. The seven emotions consist of: anger, contempt,
fear, disgust, happiness, sadness, and surprise. It is human nature to experience these emotions and this
directly correlates with our ways of thinking, feeling, and actions on a day to day basis. The Emotional
Motivational Theory ties the seven emotions presented in humans to the major causes of crimes. For the
past centuries, criminologists have extensively studied why people commit crimes, but The Emotional
Motivational Theory gives a new perspective behind the motivation created by not harnessing
emotional instability properly. This is a historical breakthrough relating to the contemporary social
conditions in the United States. The Emotional Motivational Theory depicts a wide range of crimes
from minor drug use to the worst serial killers of all time, and everything in between. Trying to prevent
criminals to stop committing crimes is like telling a new born baby to talk and walk, it takes time and
effort, but my theory has a long list of programs that can help prevent crime. We

  • 2. Ted Talk What exactly is considered a real word and what s not? Is the English language being looked down upon due to the way newer generation are using the language? These are some of the questions that come up when I saw the Ted Talk What makes a word real ? by Anne Curzan. Due to new generations, society have been using words or phrases that many elders would find it as degrading the English language. As new generations come, older generations would disapprove on how the English language is being used. New words are being made up, and the use of speaking is being used as improper . However who determines the proper way of speaking? In a Ted Talk discussing the usage of the English language, What makes a word real ? by Anne Curzan, she answers the question, Who defines what goes into the dictionary? • 3. Essay How the Elderly Cope with the Death of a Spouse Ever noticed an elderly couple performing normal daily activities and think to yourself, what would they do without one another? Many of us have elderly relatives who are either married or have someone with whom they have a tight bond with, such as a best friend, and we believe they keep each other alive. We are all born to die, but how we cope with death is different. When someone dies, persons affected may feel depressed, sad and even angry. Looking at death from a different perspective, such as a loved one going to a better place, instead of a loss can cause relatives to celebrate. This is usually the case when the cause of death is natural. When death of a spouse is because of a traumatic event, love ones are left with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Loneliness can be part of the grieving process in such cases where no one can empathize with you. Loneliness can be prevented by having relatives or friends participate in daily activities such as dinner, shopping, providing entertainment, and holding conversations. A lonely person may choose not to eat, bathe and take care of their health because their self worth has diminished. Correspondingly, a person may avoid going out and isolate themselves. Therefore, it is so important to have someone to check on a grieving elderly person. Following the death of a companion, the older adult may suddenly become unhealthy. Elderly widowed people experience a profound degree of loneliness, which has been found to cause an increase in the level of medical care, medications and mortality (Howie Mcintyre, 2002). The health of that adult was most likely maintained by the relationship with the now deceased because they felt they had something to live for. Also, the deceased person could have been providing financial stability to help pay for medication and food. Now that those resources are taken away, the health of the older adult may deteriorate increasing stress levels, which in return can present the onset of many health issues. • 4. Character Analysis Of The Snow In Trapped, By Michael... It was one of those bull s eyes in history, one of those points where everything comes together, where, if you were at that place at that time, you were part of something big. It meant that we weren t going to get picked up, not on that day and maybe not ever (Northrop 1). The mood created by Northrop in Trapped is displayed to the readers as negative vibe. Being trapped at a school in a blizzard is obviously not a good thing. So, as a visual representation to the teenagers situation, the snow is described negatively too. In the book Trapped, Michael Northrop uses the snow to symbolize dreadful times and loneliness. Throughout the text, Michael mentions the snow. Considering the book s about a blizzard, that d be normal, right? However, in my view, the snow symbolizes something, like dreadful times. Scattered around, the context surrounding the snow can be interpreted as how you feel during those times. For example, later in the book, when the students realize just how bad it is, they explain it as, There was no higher ground, no place left for us to go (Northrop 158). Here, a relation to people feeling as if there s nowhere else to go, so they re trapped in the horrible event occurring can be made. Results tend to be mourning over those poor times in people s lives. Similarly, Michael connects that to how we view bad situations. Early on in the book, description of the snow is showed as it being small flakes , like grains of sugar... the flakes had fattened up and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He crouches next to the door quietly maneuvering his nimble hands around the once smooth iron bars. He peers at the eyes glaring back at him. The black eyes are like the black holes of the universe, swallowing the light that seeps from the cracks of the door. Sam softens his gaze as the creature has won this battle. He suddenly inhales the dry air and shutters as the pain from his heart dissipates. The presence of blood lingers above his taste buds and fills his nostrils. Sam s tongue twists and turns in the desert the tongue lives in. Ahh! shouts Sam as he hurls the water bucket against the wall. His nail digs into the palm of his hands as his breathing slows and his eyelids surrender to gravity. The ceiling sent a soft white glow throughout the room to scare the darkness out of the corners. The walls stood to hide the dangers of outside. A collage of wool each dusted with short golden strands of hair covered the ground. A boy sat with his legs out in the middle of the room as a dog circled around. The sound of laughter and panting combined into a symphony of bad notes. The boy reached out to grab the soft golden hairs that blurred past him, but fell back into the cloud of fabric. The dog stopped and stood over the child. Economic Overview In Auto Industry Essay Economic Overview of the Automotive Industry The automotive industry is without a doubt an industry that has massive implications relating to the United States economy as well as affecting every American household. Shifts in the supply and demand of automobiles influence the current and future household purchases. Households must determine what amount of their hard earned income to allocate to certain necessities. Because most households have a budget, the amount spent on transportation it limited. Few American households live without some form of transportation. The amount of money spent on the transportation proves whether the automobile is a necessity or a luxury. Higher priced models sell more when the economy is stronger. When the economy is slow lower cost cars are more popular. Transportation as a whole is a necessity. The form of the transportation is what determines if it is a luxury. (Collier, 1981) The fluctuations in the supply and demand of automobiles have an effect on other industries. One such industry that is affected in a measurable way is the after market automobile parts industry. When the demand for new automobiles is high the demand for after market parts is lower. When the demand for new automobiles is low the demand for after market parts rises. The only explanation is uncovered when looking at individual households. Individual households have a limited amount of money to budget for transportation. If new cars are in high demand the income is higher for individual households. If new cars are not in high demand individual households have less money to budget for transportation. With less money to budget for transportation, individuals are more likely to use after market parts to make repairs on their existing vehicle rather than purchase a new vehicle when their current vehicle needs costly repairs. The cost to repair a vehicle is far less than the cost to purchase a new vehicle. (Lamonica, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The effectiveness of film to create a geographical place through visual and narrative portrayal of food will be explored through the elaboration on three movies: Haute Cuisine, Ratatouille, and Chocolat. The movies explored in this essay are all set in France and have various levels of effectiveness when it comes to creating a sense of geographical place through visual and narrative portrayal on film. It is a civic responsibility to make an informed decision that is determined based on evidence to help come to a logical conclusion. This essay argues that judgment in Twelve Angry Men is addressed by the jury who think rationally against a 16 year old kid facing the death sentence. It looks at the gender and ethnicity of the jury and suggests that the environment the jurors are placed in forwards their own judgment on themselves, making judgment become an empathetic experience. The placement of 12 men in a jury shows inconsistency towards female s input upon what judgment should be made for the accused. Inserting 12 men together only evokes testosterone against one another affecting their critical thinking and causing drama. Green River Killer By Gary Leon Ridgway Green River Killer Gary Leon Ridgway Elizabeth Sabie Florida International University Green River Killer Gary Leon Ridgway In the summer of 1982, while playing in the woods, children found the body of a young teen was floating in the Green River in King County, Washington. Sixteen year old Wendy Lee Coffield was found strangled with her own panties and tossed into the river like a piece of refuse. Her murder sparked an investigation that spanned three decades. Coffield s body was the first of many found in or near the Green River in a murder spree that remained unsolved for twenty years. The victims were young women, often prostitutes or runaways, who hitchhiked along Highway 99, a dilapidated stretch of the Sea Tac Highway known for its strip clubs, drugs, and seedy motels (Montaldo). While the majority of the murders occurred between 1982 1984, police had little success in tracking what they soon realized was a serial killer. Within a year the police had found four more bodies of young women, and they formed a task force to apprehend the Green River Killer. It became apparent that the killer had chosen this stretch of highway to hunt for his victims. The women found here lived in such ways that no one really noticed if they went missing. This proved even more problematic for the task force, because they were searching for a killer who had committed the murders months prior. The bodies had decomposed and it was extremely difficult ... • 20. Weber s Stress On The Formal Aspect Of Organization This model has been thoroughly critiqued. Many scholars have pointed out that Weber s stress on the formal aspect of organization in fact ignored the informal structure of relationships which represent the reality of organizational life. Goal displacement, where rules become an end in themselves is an instance of an unwanted result of this rule bound method. Parsons highlights the potential rivalry which may arise between a bureaucrat s authority correlated to his rank in the hierarchy, and that taken from technical expertise (Parsons, 1960). Other members of the organization will not know who s orders to follow regarding the mismatch the person with the appropriate command or an individual possessing greater expertise. Gun violence has always been a hot topic because of constant crimes involving firearms over the years. Recent history has alluded even more debate to possibly create or reform even more gun laws. In the story of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, the New York Times addressed what had happened. This shooting killed twenty six people, twenty in which were children ranging from the ages of five to ten years old. Adam Lanza, who ended up committing suicide, was identified as the gunman who was armed with semiautomatic pistols and a semiautomatic rifle. Another example is from the Los Angeles Times that covered a 2012 Colorado shooting in a movie theater. The gunman, suspected to be James E. Holmes, killed twelve people and injured dozens more in the shooting in a packed movie theater in Aurora. Authorities said Holmes was dressed in full body armor and used a form of tear gas on the crowd before opening fire with multiple guns. In addition, the most recent shooting occurred on May 2014 in Isla Vista near the University of Santa Barbara. This shooting resulted in seven deaths, thirteen wounded, and the murderer himself a gunshot wound to his head. He used three semiautomatic handguns and more than four hundred rounds of ammunition at his side. • 28. Cortisol Research Paper Cortisol production is stimulated by ACTH secretion from the anterior pituitary via numerous feedback mechanisms according to the circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the early morning and smaller fluctuations throughout the day. ACTH secretion is stimulated by CRH in the hypothalamus which is stimulated by things such as: decreases in plasma cortisol, hypoglycemia, stress, and infection. Secretion of ACTH leads to conversion of cholesterol to cortisol in the zona fasciculata of the adrenal gland via various cytochrome P450 enzymes. Increased levels of cortisol itself cause negative feedback on the pituitary and hypothalamus. The zona glomerulosa is the site of production of Aldosterone, the principal mineralocorticoid, via similar mechanisms (cytochrome p 450.) Aldosterone production is stimulated by activation of the renin angiotensin system in response to decreased intravascular volume (sensed by baroreceptors), decreased sodium levels sensed in the macula densa of the nephron, and by the sympathetic nervous system in response to stress. Taking a Look at Flu H5N1 ################################################# Part 2 ################################### There are multiple different sources for epidemiological measures used for tracking and reporting the number of cases. There are websites where you can go to post confirmed cases in areas, where that information is then taken and calculated. There are also places that provide charts for the amount of confirmed outbreaks and then separates them from human cases and avian cases. But the best types of reports available are the map tracking ones. Where they give distinction marks for avian and human cases and all over the different areas of the world. This is very handy for seeing how bad and large an outbreak is and what species is affected, whether it is humans or birds. The incidence rate is a measure of morbidity and number of infected worldwide, looking over the past 10 years. Over the past ten years there have 650 infected.(Yu Chan, 2014). This is not a large number because of the fact it is not spread through human to human contact but through already infected poultry. The prevalence rate is the number of current/existing cases worldwide. The United States has yet to have a confirmed outbreak because we set such high regulations on the meat we sell in our markets, thus preventing a large outbreak from hitting our country. Nitrogen oxides are formed during high temperature combustion processes from the oxidation of nitrogen in the air or fuel. The principal source of nitrogen oxides nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), collectively known as NOx is road traffic, which is responsible for approximately half the emissions in Europe. NO and NO2 concentrations are therefore greatest in urban areas where traffic is heaviest. Other important sources are power stations, heating plants and industrial processes. Ground level ozone (O3), unlike other pollutants mentioned , is not emitted directly into the atmosphere, but is a secondary pollutant produced by reaction between nitrogen dioxide (NO2), hydrocarbons and sunlight. People are now aware that coal mining in West Virginia was almost entirely detrimental to the environment as well as the community. Throughout West Virginia, everyone agreed there was a large amount of air pollution from coal mines. These air pollutants were so bad in the 1990s that the Clean Air Act was enacted. He believes man holds an incredibly insubstantial position in the world, for he is limited in all respects and merely occupies a sort of mid position between nothing and everything (Pascal 7). Man lives a short life that stands as a mid point between the eternity that precedes him and the eternity that will follow him. Man has no way of knowing for certain what came before him or what will come after him; after all, how could such a small, fragile, perishable, and limited thing have any certain knowledge of anything vast, imperishable, and unlimited? The nature of man is to be nothing more than a part of a whole, and if man studied himself, he would see how incapable he is of going beyond himself (Pascal 8). Man, according to Pascal, refuses to accept his puniness and limitations. We refuse to accept that our very nature is minuscule and limited in the grand scheme of eternity. In this piece of writing, Emerson explains how and why independence is what has created today s society. Emerson explains these thoughts by using metaphors, common sense, similes and imagery. Emerson starts off by stating that everyone is very common but also very different. For example, when Emerson says, Every heart vibrates to that iron string (Pg. 591, Line 37), he expresses that people are very similar. A matter of fact, there is an actual study that shows when a human being listens to music, the beat of your heart goes with the rhythm of the music. This piece of the puzzle has one powerful image. Minds, however, are different from bodies. Minds are not in space, since they do not occupy space like a body does. Minds are part of mental existence. The processes of the mind are not subject to mechanical laws like bodies are. Also the workings of someone s minds are not able to be witnessed by other people, like a human body is able to be. When you use your mind and you think, imagine or feel an emotion, other people cannot see what is going on in your mind. Since the workings of one s mind are not able to be observed, this makes the minds life a private affair. This means that a person lives two lives. The first is what happens to his body and the other is what happens in his mind. What happens to the body is in the physical world while what happens in the mind is in the mental world (Ryle). The view that physical objects are in a common field (space) and mental processes occur in a isolated field known as the mind, is the ontological way, while the way that only our bodies can meet and we cannot interact with each other s minds is the epistemological way. At that time the Austrian soldiers wore a white scarf around the neck as an identity. The Croatta scarf was a favorite of the king. Louis even created his own scarf and wore it around the castle. After a while, he was bored by the plain style of Croatta so he began to make a new design for the scarf, such as adding the embroidery lace and tying a butterfly knot. As Louis set the example by adopting this accessory, it became all the rage at court. Furthermore, as soon as the trend spread to the Army, everyone began to follow it. King Louis did a lot for Croatia since an army has Croatta s name. For the necktie development in the history the promotion by the king Louis is very important. Had King Louis XIV not embraced this fashion, neckties might not be worn today. The king had no idea how important his promotion for the modern fashion within next hundreds of years. The Croatta has been evolved into two categories in the current fashion industry: One is the bow tie from the upward development and the other is the necktie with the downward ... Growing Regions Construct a map to illustrate the spatial distribution of growing regions globally Describe any correlation you have found between the spatial distribution of the food staple growing region and global biomes 90% of all rice is grown in asia, in irrigated and upland areas of not only asia but west africa and central and south america. The rice in these countries are grown close to equator in grasslands areas the reason grasslands are used for farming of rice is because it s a perfect mix of cool and hot climates which is great for growth and they are predominantly large and expansive biomes perfect for growing crops on a large scale. It can be grown up to and around 3000 meters Explain how environmental factors (temperature, water availability, soils and topography) influence the yield of the food staple. Rice is grown upland so that water can flow down and irrigate all the rice below it and not overwater the plants, rice can have low productivity in some areas as soil can be poor and little fertiliser is used. Rainfall can be inconsistent and cause either drought or erosion of the hill side preventing growth. Rice needs to be grown in areas where nighttime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rice is very dependant on water and uses 2 and a half times as much water as other crops, this means drought and water scarcity is a huge problem. Flooding is also as big as a problem as rice grows on sloping rice paddies that are vulnerable to flooding because the water flows downhill meaning erosion affects all the crops. Urbanisation is somewhat of a problem because rice can be grown in a wide variety of places and the countries that export the most rice have station the farms far enough away that it won t be a problem for a long ... The Emotional Effects Of Emotional Motivational Theory The Emotional Motivational Theory contributes to the ongoing criminological debate while answering what exactly causes humans to commit crime. It also highlights how crime should be handled and prevented by studying the basic human mind and its functions. I created the Emotional Motivational Theory because it relates to every individual on earth in aspects of human interactions. The theory is based off of the seven emotions we as humans exhibit. The seven emotions consist of: anger, contempt, fear, disgust, happiness, sadness, and surprise. It is human nature to experience these emotions and this directly correlates with our ways of thinking, feeling, and actions on a day to day basis. The Emotional Motivational Theory ties the seven emotions presented in humans to the major causes of crimes. For the past centuries, criminologists have extensively studied why people commit crimes, but The Emotional Motivational Theory gives a new perspective behind the motivation created by not harnessing emotional instability properly. This is a historical breakthrough relating to the contemporary social conditions in the United States. The Emotional Motivational Theory depicts a wide range of crimes from minor drug use to the worst serial killers of all time, and everything in between. Trying to prevent criminals to stop committing crimes is like telling a new born baby to talk and walk, it takes time and effort, but my theory has a long list of programs that can help prevent crime.
