This document defines subjects and predicates in sentences and provides examples. It instructs students to identify subjects and predicates in sample sentences, diagram sentences with simple and compound subjects and predicates, and complete an exercise practicing identifying subjects and predicates in their own sentences to hand in.

2. Definitions Subject- is who or what the sentence is about. Nouns are often used as subjects. Example: The Bible is the Word of God. Drew and I will go to a parade. Simple Subject- see sentence number 1 Compound Subject- see sentence number 2

3. Definitions Predicate- is what is being said about the subject(s) in a sentence. The predicate starts with a verb. Example: Brenda obey her parents . Simple Predicate- when the sentence has one verb Example: Maria cleaned her house yesterday. Compound Predicate- when the sentence has more than one verb Example: Maria cleaned and decorated her house yesterday.
