The Pearl
Steinbeck quoted in one of his novels, A story has many versions as it has readers. Everyone takes
what he wants or can from it and thus changes it to his measure. Some pick out parts and reject the
rest, some strain the story through their mesh of prejudice, some paint it with their own delight. His
quote explains how each reader depicts the novel into their own understanding. John Ernst Steinbeck,
an American novelist, is the author of the novella, The Pearl, published in 1947. The three main
characters in The Pearl are Kino, Juana, and their baby, Coyotito. The Pearl is the story of Kino, a
young Native American man, who finds a magnificent pearl, is greedy when trying to sell the pearl for
a high price. He is so obsessed with trying to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kino and Juana hear the Song of the Family when they are at peace and trying to protect their family.
Family is idolized by its warmth and safety throughout the novella. In the beginning of The Pearl,
Kino protects his family above all else and does this in an animalistic way. Family is closely tied
together to gender roles in the text, since the duty of the mother and father, husband and wife are an
important part of identity. The narrator explained, Kino heard the creak of the rope when Juana took
Coyotito out of his hanging box and cleaned him and hammocked him in her shawl in a loop that
placed him close to her breast. Kino could see these things without looking at them. Juana sang softly
an ancient song that had only three notes and yet endlessly variety of interval. And this was part of the
family song too...aching chord that caught the throat, saying this is safety, this is warmth, this is the
Whole (Steinbeck 9). Juana s song has three notes to represent the three members of her and Kino s
family. When Coyotito dies, the entire family is completely destroyed: what is left is no longer whole.
While the pearl sparks greed in people s hearts the purity of the family is in danger. The love of family
is real and not dependent on monetary value. The greed associated with the pearl blinds Kino s eyes to

Buchi Emecheta s The Joys of Motherhood and Wole...
Colonial Life in Buchi Emecheta s The Joys of Motherhood and Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s
Horseman
Homi Bhaba writes that colonial mimicry is the desire for a reformed, recognizable Other, as a subject
of a difference that is almost the same, but not quite (86). The colonizer wants and needs the colonized
to be similar to himself, but not the same. If the native continues to behave in his traditional ways, he
brings no economic gain to the colonizer. But, if the colonized changes too much and is found to be
exactly the same as the colonizer, the colonizer is left with no argument for his supremacy. As Bhaba
puts it, in order to be effective, mimicry must continually produce its slippage, its excess, its
difference (86). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I may even lose my job (50). Here Nnaife shows that he only affiliates himself with the church to
protect his job. Later, when he no longer works for Dr. and Mrs. Meers, Nnaife disobeys the church
rules on monogamy and inherits one of his deceased brother s wives. Because he no longer needed the
church to keep his job, he abandoned it, displaying that he was not truly a believer of the Christian
faith. Nnu Ego appears to be even less converted to Christianity. She never truly abandons her
traditional beliefs. Throughout the novel, she refers to her chi and, in the end, she is even made into a
goddess herself. When she first moved to the city, Nnu Ego admitted that she did not understand what
Christianity was all about, and as she continued attending church she found that it had become
monotonous attending week after week (48). Unlike Joseph and Amusa, Nnu Ego never even appears
to accept the colonial religion as her own. Her traditional beliefs continue to guide her throughout the
story. Nnu Ego first realizes that she is pregnant for a second time because of a conversation with her
chi, long after she has been living in Lagos, the white man s city. After the conversation in a dream
with her chi, Nnu Ego realized that it would be difficult to explain it to him. This she knew was a bond
between her and her chi and her coming child. Nnaife had little to do with it. He was

Michael Parenti s View On Human Nature And Why The Topic...
1. Discuss Michael Parenti s view on human nature and why the topic is important for our course:
Michael Parenti, author and political scientist, describes human nature as a topic deeply intertwined
with politics. The reason for this is because arguments for and against human nature being unalterable
and the cause of everything destructive are both ideologically motivated and have a political
implication. According to him, to say that human nature is accountable for our current social relations
is no different than what renowned thinkers of the past have asserted for their own social
circumstances. For instance, philosophers of the Classical Era such as Plato and Socrates believed
everyone belonged to their place in the hierarchy. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem that Parenti proposes is that the worst of these qualities are acknowledged as central,
while the best treated as secondary. Parenti extends his argument by saying that these qualities are
seen as basic and are associated with human instinct. For example, some argue that people have the
instinct to earn money and that this is evident in the fact that people earn money. Parenti discards this
as a cycle of post hoc ergo propter hoc, in which the existence of something is weakly explained by
holding the very thing s existence as its reason for existing.
Both arguments on the topic of human instinct, concludes Parenti, fails to acknowledge the complex
social processes that intertwine between innate proclivity and natural behavior. This topic is important
to discuss in a politics class because it is a fundamental argument that can potentially give insight into
how expansion of the capitalist system can produce political activity in the world. Parenti emphasizes
that the global division of labor between the rich and poor and military coercion cannot be simply
labeled as the outcome of the natural human way. For saying this is declaring the inescapability of the
situation and dismissing all possibilities of social justice in the future.

What Went Wrong At Boeing
The 787 was conceived as a revolutionary design that would be a replacement for the aging 767, cost
about the same, but be 20% more fuel efficient. It would accomplish this by utilizing a construction of
50% composite something never before attempted in the commercial aviation arena. In summary,
Boeing was endeavoring to build a brand new clean sheet aircraft from materials never used, using
methods never attempted, and using a supply chain more far reaching than ever experienced by the
plane maker.
In retrospect, it may be easy to see why the 787 has had so many problems. The problems are so large
that Forbes was prompted to publish an article titled, What Went Wrong at Boeing. (Denning 2013)
Boeing has worked through most of its supply chain woes and has delivered over 60 787s to date.
Boeing is now designing a next generation version of its supremely popular 777, the 777 8/9.
Boeing s desire to reduce costs and production time by relying risk taking suppliers to design and
produce major aircraft components has led to many failures and cost overruns in the 787 program. In
order for Boeing to avoid the pitfalls of the 787 program, Boeing must take the lessons of the past in
concert with good technology to ensure good management of the new 777 supply chain. Literature
Review
Boeing s move toward a supply chain that relied on utilizing risk taking suppliers for the 787 was
meant to reduce the design timeframe and shorten the production cycle, however it actually

Alexis De Tocqueville Democracy In America
3. Does equality isolate us? If so, how? Use Tocqueville to support your argument. Democracy In
America: Equality and its Inevitable Isolation 25243320 PS 112C 12 February 2018 In Democracy in
America, French diplomat Alexis De Tocqueville critically analyzes America s pioneering democratic
political system. Tocqueville argued that this unique and unprecedented form of governing is a regime
founded upon the idea of equality of conditions. In using this phrase, Tocqueville not only refers to the
idea of material equality for all American citizens, but also takes a step further and claim that other
differences, such as social or personal, shouldn t exist as well under these said conditions. Essentially,
Tocqueville thinks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tocqueville elaborates that equality causes each man to seek his beliefs in himself, and this
phenomenon is called individualism. He considers individualism as a sentiment that disposes each
citizen to isolate himself from the mass of those like him and to withdraw to one side with his family
and his friends. With individualism rising from equality, people become selfish and they feel as though
they have no obligation to interfere with other people s lives, as they are too concerned with their own.
Privacy and anonymity comes into play because once everyone is equal, people become less focused
on comparing each other and more focused on themselves. Tocqueville reiterates that as social
equality spreads there are more and more people who [become not] powerful enough to have much
hold over others and individuals now share a mutual sentiment to not impose, not interfere, and not
care. Tocqueville declares that individualism... dries up the source of public virtues... and attacks and
destroys all the others and will finally be absorbed in selfishness. This growing habit of selfishness
and loss of selfless virtue deeply severs people s connections from each other and further isolates

Belle Boyd Father
During the Civil war era women still did not have the same rights as men. Men were known to be the
dominant figure in society. Men went to work, men contributed towards the war and men had
complete control over anything including the women. All women were allowed to do during this time
period is to stay at home and be the Stay at home mom . But soon men were tired of war and women
knew this is when they could take their chance to be out and about. One of the most famous lady spies
is known by Isabelle Boyd or for short. Belle gave herself her nickname just to shorten her name
during school. Belle Boyd s life played out like a James Bond character: she was betrayed by a lover,
later captured taking Confederate papers to England, and fell in love with and married her captor.
Belle was a white Confederate spy that is from Martinsburg Virginia in which the war was strong and
men were tired of it. She must have been very outgoing and courageous to want to join the war and
most likely be killed. She was born May 9th 1844 and died on June 11th 1900. The average age for the
civil war era was 20 for spies and 49 for an average person. So as a spy she greatly surpassed her life

Blue Ridge Coffee Case Study
Task 2 Memorandum TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Sales Strategy for the Flavored Coffee
Following the introduction of the new flavored coffee, there is need for coming up with a sales
strategy for increasing the sales of the new product. The strategy gives details on how the product will
reach the customers, and in the end, making them aware of the difference between the new product
line with the other products from the company. These strategies are necessary for improving the total
company sales, consequently increasing the profitability of the company. The strategy is also
necessary for the coming up with sales activities that position the flavored coffee to a state where it
can gain a competitive advantage in the market. The most appropriate sales strategy of choice for
meeting the sales objective of the company is the triple tiered sales strategy (Frain, 2009). Justification
of the recommendation The strategy is necessary for the establishment of a good relationship between
the wholesale clientele and the company. The association that the regional sales teams have with the
wholesale customers is vital for giving the company the necessary information regarding the
performance of the product. The triple tiered strategy is necessary for the identification of the
challenges that the competitors are going through, and building on their weakness to increase the sales
volume. An element of a weak competition in consideration involves brand recognition. Carolina

Vertical Price Maintenance Case Summary
Resale price maintenance (RPM) also referred to as vertical price fixing according to Sheffet and
Scammon, is a controversial pricing practice for managing retail distribution channels . This pricing
practice as Jedlicková points out, involves vertical agreements between a supplier and its distributors
(manufacturer and her retailer) which establish a minimum retail price at which the latter will sell her
products . This trade restraint permits a manufacturer to limit the normal pricing behaviour of its
resellers and although common and essential in a market consisting of bilateral and multilateral
arrangements, the restrictive aspects of these agreements lessen competition, primarily, inter brand
competition .
Certain trade restraints, under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An agreement between the supplier and a reseller could be considered both a vertical agreement
(between supplier and reseller) and horizontal (between a seller and a competing reseller). The view
that equates vertical price agreements with horizontal price agreements and hold that each should be
treated the same way under the antitrust laws has no support in antitrust economics . Since Sylvania,
lower courts have judged dual distribution agreements under the rule of reason, and the Supreme
Court has never addressed the issue expressly . In Leegin, the plaintiff argued that the agreement was
horizontal due to the dual character of Leegin s distribution: independent distribution through stores
such as the plaintiff s, and semi direct sales through stores in which Leegin s president had an
ownership interest . Some of the questions at oral argument suggested a sensitivity to the difficulties
of distinguishing vertically driven from horizontally driven minimum RPM agreements. Justice
Ginsburg noted that it was somewhat difficult to distinguish vertical from horizontal in this context,
that in fact, the agreement that the manufacturer made with the dealers was more successful in getting
a horizontal accord among the dealers than if the dealers had attempted it themselves, in which case
some might have held back. Justice Stevens followed up with a more pointed question: Why should
that be any different from the arrangement where those dealers all got together in the convention and
recommended to the manufacturer that he impose a vertical restraint of precisely the same
dimensions?

Teaching And Learning Of A Second Language
For many years, the teaching and learning of a second language has been the norm in schools
throughout Europe and the United States. Teachers approached language instruction in a variety of
ways like the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method, where students are taught fluency
through conversation, or the Lexical Approach in which learners are able to understand and speak in
large quantities of specific vocabulary and idioms (Richards and Rodgers 83 229). However, as the
world progressed technologically, the methods of learning new languages transformed. Language
teachers still inhabited classrooms and implemented these approaches, but computer programs
complemented the lessons. Subsequently, desktop and mobile applications such as Duolingo surfaced,
completely altering the way in which people were able to learn new languages. Although this media
technology was the first of its kind, it is not necessarily new. While it can be considered old media,
Duolingo still had a major impact on society, affecting social relationships and following technology.
Before Duolingo, languages were taught not on desktop computers or mobile phones, but rather in
classrooms. The audience was also significantly smaller. The United States, in the early 20th century,
prohibited instructors from teaching foreign languages to children who had not passed the eighth
grade (Scott 508). Languages were taught in secondary schools mainly because it was seen as a
necessity to be accepted into any

When Candide was faced with the true reality about Pacquette and the monk, he was unable to accept
that all was not well, `That sir...is one more misery of this way of life. Yesterday I was robbed and
beaten by an officer, and to day I must appear good humored to please a monk. This was enough for
Candide (Candide, 116).
The second characteristic from the neo classicism age that is present in Candide is Love=Sex. At the
beginning of the book, Candide s outlook on Cunegonde was purely physical, he found Lady
Cunegonde extremely beautiful...Their lips met, their eyes flashed, their knees trembled, and their
hands would not keep still (Candide, 20 21). By the end of the book, after searching for her the whole
duration of the story, his outlook on Cunegonde has changed, Even the fond lover himself drew back
aghast at seeing how weatherbeaten his lovely Cunegonde had become, for her eyes were bloodshot,
her throat was wizened, her cheeks were wrinkled, and her arms were red and scaly (Candide, 137). It
is plain to see that this love is only based on physical attraction, as opposed to spiritual. The third
characteristic of the neo classicism time period that is represented in Candide was the preference for
an urbane, civilized society. In Candide, much of the setting takes place in an urban society, rather
than rural society. He has been to all sorts of civilized towns and neighborhoods, such

Edna s Transformation in The Awakening by Kate Chopin Essay
The Awakening by Kate Chopin, is a story of a woman who breaks free from the restraints put on her
by society. During the first part of the story, Edna was a normal wife and mother; she was restricted to
her stereotype and expected to stay at home, be loyal to her husband, and care for her children. As the
story progresses and Edna redefines herself, we eventually are reading about a new character entirely.
She ignores the internalized concept of being a mother and wife and becomes a new woman. She
cheats on her husband, disregards her children, and defies her societal expectations. At the end of the
story, Edna Pontellier commits suicide to free herself from her confusing and scandalous life. During

Edna becomes familiar with the idea that she needs to do something about herself so that she doesn t
continue her colorless, stereotypical life; she has to drift away from her regular routine and disenthrall.
As Edna awakens , her objective becomes more defined; she wants to escape and free herself. Chopin
often subtly compares Edna to a bird throughout the story; In the very beginning of the book, Edna is
compared to a caged bird: A green and yellow parrot, which hung in a cage outside the door, (5). It is
obvious now, after reading the book, that Chopin knew exactly what would become of Edna. A caged
bird, when freed, often dies because it is not familiar with the wild; this is exactly what happens to
Edna Pontellier. Later in the story, Mademoiselle Reisz tells Edna The bird that would soar above the
level plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings. It is a sad spectacle to see the weaklings
bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth (138). This is a more definitive foreshadowing than the
caged bird; when Edna dies, it s because she is unable to find the strength to swim back, she s weak.
She pushed herself too far and led herself astray mentally and literally; if she had stayed in her cage
and had confined herself to a simple, mundane life, she would never be lost. Kate Chopin told a
meaningful story that a

executive branch, i.e. the governor and a group of elected constitutional officers. Second is the judicial

appointed by the Governor and ratified in the next general election. The third branch of government in
California is the legislative branch. It is a bicameral body which includes California s Senate and

In 1910, California Progressive Party member Hiram Johnson ran for governor. Restore absolute
sovereignty to the people that we may yet live in a free republic was his slogan. In years prior to the
election Californians began to notice a trend in their state government. Californians were not being
represented properly by the legislature (Kesler). This is a reflection of California at the time. The gold
rush had brought massive amounts of people into the state. This led to an unprecedented opportunity
for new business. The Southern Pacific Railroad among other big business infiltrated politics and
corruption followed for decades. Law makers passed laws which benefited them. The Progressives
sought to give the people greater say in making and dismantling legislation. In doing so the
Legislative branch lost power.
To accomplish their goal in 1911 they enacted the ballot measures in order for citizens to bypass
legislature approval and have a measure placed on the ballot. An initiative is a proposal for a new law
that allows any citizen or organization to gather a state defined amount of citizen signatures to qualify.
Another ballot measure enacted by the Progressives is a popular eferendum. This allows citizens to
create a ballot measure to repeal a specific legislative act by gaining a predetermined number of
signatures. Voters ratified these amendments in a special election of October 10, 1911 (Initiative
Reform Institute).

Character Analysis Of Everyman
Everyman, a morality play, was written in the late fifteenth century with the intention of
communicating to both educated, as well as, illiterate audiences some of the moral instructions
regarding the way to live life and prepare for judgment day. Liberty University (Lesson 26
presentation) says, This play taught masses of people about Christ and what constitutes a God
centered moral life. (Liberty University. n.d.) The use of characters such as; Death, Goods, Beauty,
Knowledge, Good deeds, and of course, Everyman, create a realistic understanding of the moral
message. The treatment and perception of the character Death within the play gives the audients
important insight to the way death is used by God and how it changes the outlook ... Show more

As each character betrays their promises to never leave or forsake Everyman, the reader can make a
personal connection that supports their understanding that the only way to salvation is through Christ;
not through the characters of the play such as Goods or Fellowship. All of the characters can be taken
literally to understand their nature in the real world. Death, as a character, is used as an analogy or
allegory for literal death. The author is demonstrating the use of Death to bring people back to God.
As Everyman continued in his search to find someone willing to accompany him to his reckoning he
comes across Good Deeds. Although the character, Good Deeds, was willing to accompany
Everyman, he is initially unable to so because of the fact that Good Deeds was never Everyman s
primary focus so he was lacking strength in that area. That being said, Good Deeds points Everyman
in the direction of his sister, Knowledge, who encourages him to seek Confession. By speaking with
Confession, he seeks forgiveness while also punishing himself by way of scourge of penance.
Everyman is then forgiven of his sins and Good Deeds rises from the ground strong enough to
accompany him to his final judgment. In this situation, God uses Death to free people of their sin and
bring them to salvation. Prior to being comforted by Good Deeds, Everyman was overwhelmed by
fear and anxiety. He was alone

Compare And Contrast Jim Jones And Jesus Christ
Jim Jones and Jesus Christ, two names of two very known people, they share many similarities. Yet
only own of them is praised and the other is demonized. Even comparing the two is almost forbidden,
how could someone compare the savior of mankind and a man who is responsible for the death of
hundreds? Both managed to gain a large following, had people who feared them, and they both made
the ultimate sacrifice. While they share many similarities they both are remembered very differently.
Jesus is known as the savior of all and he is celebrated furiously, while Jim Jones is demonized and
only remembered for his cyanide kool aid. They both went about their lives in different ways, while
Jesus was a peacemaker who helped others and sacrificed himself ... Show more content on

Differences Between Gaap And Ifrs
Introduction
There are two distinct methods of accounting for finances in the business world. These two methods
are the methods both prescribed by the U.S., which is known as the generally accepted accounting
principles (GAAP), and that which is used by the international community known as international
financial reporting standards (IFRS). GAAP is regulated by the financial accounting standards board
(FASB) while IFRS is regulated by the international accounting standards board (IASB). These two
methods are currently under a process which is known as convergence or harmonization so that the
United States will eventually become integrated into the global community (Miller, S. E. 2009). This
will cause financial statements to be more usable for more people across the globe as well as enhance
citizens of the U.S. s ability to perform business more efficiently internationally.
Principles Versus Rules Based Methods
There are many challenges and hurdles to overcome in order to achieve harmonization between GAAP
and IFRS. The differences are widespread. Most importantly and fundamentally GAAP is considered
to be more rules based, while principalities are largely what guide the users of IFRS. GAAP
Regulations are more detailed, specific and voluminous. Conversely, IFRS regulations are less
voluminous and make allowance for more exceptions. As an example IFRS allows the reversal of a
write down after the fact while GAAP that when a write down is taken then it is irreversible.

War Elephants Research
Jonathan Carroll once said, Animals are on earth to protect mankind. When you gather a bunch of
them together like this, you create a safe haven. Nothing can touch you here. This is extremely true
when it comes to the army because when there is no cars or tanks animals are the next best thing.
Animals helped the army before everyone used cars and tanks. War Elephants Elephants were used to
scare other people away. Recent studies have found that elephants had a helpful part when it comes to
the army because of their size and speed. In this article Lockie discuss their research. Researchers
found this, War elephants were usually deployed in the center of the line, where the imposing beasts
would charge at up to 20 mph toward the enemy. They were also used to carry heavy materials across
difficult terrain before tanks and helicopters were an option, (Lockie, 2015). Researchers also found,

camels used by the Imperial Camel Corps was on average calculated to be 4.8 km (3 miles) an hour.
At a trot they could make 9.5 km (6 miles) an hour. Each camel was expected to carry a load of at
least 145 kg (the average weight of a camelier, his equipment and supplies, (Fenton, 2014). Camels
were a good war materiel because everyone used a horse so they would scare off the enemy s
transportation. Also camels can go five days without water while horses can go one day without water,
so if it was a long distance to travel they could go instead of stopping everyday to give water to the
horses. This is important because we might be able to sneak up on the enemy with the camels instead
of other things like horses. Camels were a big part of

The common characteristics of the three religions, including their ethics
The three religions are monotheistic; this is to mean that each one of them believes in the existence of
one deity. In Islam and Judaism, this is quite clear but in Christianity among some factions though
they still believe in one God, this God is believed to be made of three entities. This is, however, not a
denial of the one God but a way to show the complexity of religion (Learning centre, 2015). All the

Music Education Has On A Student
Music education is often pushed to the side in terms of academics. It is often the victim of many
budget cuts as it is seen as unnecessary and expensive. Looking from an outside point of view, most
fail to realize how much of an impact music has on a student. The only loss they see when cutting a
music program is that a student would simply no longer have the ability to learn an instrument.
However, music education proves to provide much more knowledge and skills to a student than that.
In learning any subject, a student learns much more than just that subject. For example, they might
learn to think critically, think outside of the box, or learn to see things in different perspectives. Music
is just the same. Any student gains much more than only the skill to play an instrument. In fact, music
is special. It is much different than what is regularly taught in school. It takes on a different
perspective of learning, but also, multiple aspects of a student s brain is needed in order to carry out
the function to learn music. In these sources listed below, these articles focus on how music education
does benefit its learner in many different ways. Music educated students excel not only in music, but
studies have proven that they do better in academic based subjects than those who have not taken
music classes. They gain skills that help them in thinking, learning, creating, and even perseverance.
Students educated in music receive much more than they expect. These lasting

The Paleo Diet By Loren Cordain
The Lemonade Cleanse
In the article, The Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain, the author talks about America s fascination with diet
fads, telling readers about their widespread appeal as a fix all for America s health problems and
obesity. I have to admit, like a lot of people, I am a bandwagon jumper. Whether this new fad be a new
fashion trend or a new video game sensation, chances are that I ve tried it. And new diet fads are no
exception for me.
One of the things that has become popular today is the cleanse. Cleanses can take many forms, but the
main function of these is to detox the body. Many scientists, such as Dr. Joy Dubost, a dietitian and
food scientist, warn people to shy away from such cleanses that claim to give the body a total detox.
Dubost states that, Your body has built in mechanisms for detoxification, including your liver,
kidneys, and gastrointestinal system. Going on a cleanse is not going to aide these bodily systems in
doing their job. These are short term diets that often consist solely of liquids that contain very little
caloric value and can often make going on a cleanse dangerous.

friend. My high energy and active lifestyle allowed me to get away with my diet at

Economic Policy
The new economic policy of the united states should include cutting taxes, reducing governmental
waste, and balance the budget by having a smaller more efficient federal government. It should

Cutting taxes across the board including income tax rates, capital gains and estate taxes among others

There are several ways in which the government can cut taxes while maintaining worthwhile
government subsidized programs, which will be discussed in this paper.
To have funded tax cuts the government will have to cut spending by eliminating waste and by
reforming while preserving needed entitlement programs such as Welfare, Social Security and
Medicare though slowing the rate of growth in spending on them. As quoted in a Business Week
editorial quot;Cutting the growth in Medicare spending by $150 billion would help open the way for a
truly balanced budget, lower interest rates and higher economic growth quot; (A Vote for a

To eliminate waste the government will have to cut programs that are no longer needed and programs
that overlap each other. quot; The federal government today has 163 separate job training programs, 26
food programs and 180 educational programs. The government needs to eliminate some, consolidate
some and change others quot; (The Balance Sheet). The government can also cut waste by cutting the

Al Salem works in the field of calligraphy of Islamic art. His work does not differ greatly from the
essential elements of Islamic art although there is no doubt that he takes a more modern approach on

common artistic vocabulary based in the Arabic alphabet. As well, that the contemporary calligraphy
is imbued with a sense of timelessness, while it, in turn, pulls the historical objects into the present

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Heart Disease
Heart disease is common among dogs almost as common as it is in humans. If you own a dog, and you
have some concerns about your dog s health, it is important to understand what type of heart disease
complications your dog may experience, especially in response to infection, illness, diet, and lack of
exercise. For many dogs the symptoms and complications of heart disease are similar to what you
would expect to see in human symptoms. Heart disease in dog s can be attributed to congenital
complications as well. Typically, when your dog is young, you will want to have your dog evaluated to
determine if there are any congenital complications that may pre dispose your dog to heart
complications early in life. When compounded by heart disease development, due to poor diet or other
infections, your dog will typically show signs of poor tolerance for exercise, have some swelling
around the stomach and may even show signs of weight loss. When evaluated, your dog s veterinarian
is going to listen for the presence of a gallop heart sound which is indicative of swelling in and around
the heart. The gallop heart sound will be a sound that is similar to a third heart beat or echo and can
typically only be heard with a stethoscope. Heart murmurs in dogs are also quite common and while
they can, to some extent, be corrected with surgery, most dogs will live a long time with heart murmur.
But, when heart disease is a concern, you will want to address the heart murmur issues as well.

Analysis Of Helft Mir Ihr Schwestern
Helft mir, ihr Schwestern is song number five from Robert Schumann s song cycle Frauenliebe und
leben. The song cycle was set to the text of a poem cycle of the same name by Adelbert von
Chamisso. Each poem in the cycle provides a glimpse into the story of a woman falling in love with a
man, getting engaged and married to him, getting pregnant and having a child, becoming a widow and
finally sharing her life story with her granddaughter. At the time that Schumann wrote this song cycle,
he was going through a legal battle with his future wife s father over the right to marry her. This poem
cycle contains themes of love, devotion, and longing that Schumann could personally relate with his
feelings for Clara Wieck, who would soon become Clara Schumann. In this essay, I will demonstrate
how Frauenliebe und leben is directly reflective of Robert Schumann s own life experiences. In so
doing, I will be analyzing the ways in which Schumann set the music in a fashion that emphasized the
structure and emotional content of the poetry. In order to better understand the context of Robert
Schuman s setting of Helft mir, ihr Schwestern, I will first provide a general analysis of the song cycle
as a whole. As Schumann set music to the various poems, he shifted the tonality to closely related
keys, such as a fourth or fifth away, or shifting the relative or parallel major and minor keys. These
shifts in tonality help emphasis the emotional development of the main character of the poems. The
song cycle begins with a relatively slow and reflective song in the key of Bb major, where the main
subject of the poem cycle first describes her feelings of intense, blind love for a man. The next song
shifts the tonal center up a fourth to the key of Eb. In this song, the woman raises the man of her
affection up on a pedestal of high praise, while she demeans herself to a lowly maid. Song three,
moves the tonality to the relative minor of the previous song, C minor. This song is about the woman s
disbelief that the man she adored so highly has fallen in love with her, and Schumann reflects that
disbelief by making the music more erratic in tempo. He also emphasizes the disbelief by repeating
the complete last stanza and then the

The Death, Burial, And Resurrection Of Jesus Christ
Why did they wait until 100 pages into the book to write this chapter? Earlier in the book when they
said that I might want to set down the book they were right. This chapter has some really helpful
concepts validated by scripture and explained with helpful models that should get every Christian
excited about ministry to the city. This chapter is about sharing the good news with people and
grabbing their attention and respect with goo deeds. This chapter is about the death, burial, and
resurrection of Jesus Christ. This chapter is also about loving the city and living in the city in away
that is compatible with the needs and dreams of the city. This is my favorite chapter in the book by far.
It contains a really solid biblical theology for loving the city. I ve never seen any Christian in my life
raise a person from the dead in the name of God. I may never see a supernatural miracle in my life, but
I m certainly not going to say that it can t happen. Maybe we just don t have enough faith to raise
people from the dead in the name of Jesus. More commonly I think we have the ability to transform
the city though doing unwarranted acts of kindness in our community. In Galatians 2 Paul extorts us to
remember the poor in good deeds of service. Let us be eager to serve in this way but not forget to
share the life saving word of God. Paul also models for us in Romans 1 when he says he is eager to
share the gospel and that it is the power of God s salvation for all that believe.

The Devastation Of The Hurricane Katrina
In the history of the United States of America, Hurricane Katrina was known as one of the worst
hurricanes in the world. The hurricane was a combination of tropical waters and gushing winds. It was
the vicious hurricane that caused severe damage to the citizens of the United States of America. The
amazing city known for its southern style, Cajun cuisines, jazz music and its celebration of Mardi

category five hurricane left the city devastated. The catastrophic storm tore through the city of New
Orleans and surrounding areas destroying everything in its path and killing hundreds of people.
For millions of people living near the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of the United States, a team of weather
experts in Miami were helping make a difference between another hurricane disaster and safe
evacuations in the wake of the oncoming storm. These experts are trained to interpret data from
satellites, weather stations and specialized computer equipment to give the public advance warning of
hurricanes barreling toward any shores (Treaster, 2007, p. 26).

  • 2. The Pearl Steinbeck quoted in one of his novels, A story has many versions as it has readers. Everyone takes what he wants or can from it and thus changes it to his measure. Some pick out parts and reject the rest, some strain the story through their mesh of prejudice, some paint it with their own delight. His quote explains how each reader depicts the novel into their own understanding. John Ernst Steinbeck, an American novelist, is the author of the novella, The Pearl, published in 1947. The three main characters in The Pearl are Kino, Juana, and their baby, Coyotito. The Pearl is the story of Kino, a young Native American man, who finds a magnificent pearl, is greedy when trying to sell the pearl for a high price. He is so obsessed with trying to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kino and Juana hear the Song of the Family when they are at peace and trying to protect their family. Family is idolized by its warmth and safety throughout the novella. In the beginning of The Pearl, Kino protects his family above all else and does this in an animalistic way. Family is closely tied together to gender roles in the text, since the duty of the mother and father, husband and wife are an important part of identity. The narrator explained, Kino heard the creak of the rope when Juana took Coyotito out of his hanging box and cleaned him and hammocked him in her shawl in a loop that placed him close to her breast. Kino could see these things without looking at them. Juana sang softly an ancient song that had only three notes and yet endlessly variety of interval. And this was part of the family song too...aching chord that caught the throat, saying this is safety, this is warmth, this is the Whole (Steinbeck 9). Juana s song has three notes to represent the three members of her and Kino s family. When Coyotito dies, the entire family is completely destroyed: what is left is no longer whole. While the pearl sparks greed in people s hearts the purity of the family is in danger. The love of family is real and not dependent on monetary value. The greed associated with the pearl blinds Kino s eyes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Buchi Emecheta s The Joys of Motherhood and Wole... Colonial Life in Buchi Emecheta s The Joys of Motherhood and Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s Horseman Homi Bhaba writes that colonial mimicry is the desire for a reformed, recognizable Other, as a subject of a difference that is almost the same, but not quite (86). The colonizer wants and needs the colonized to be similar to himself, but not the same. If the native continues to behave in his traditional ways, he brings no economic gain to the colonizer. But, if the colonized changes too much and is found to be exactly the same as the colonizer, the colonizer is left with no argument for his supremacy. As Bhaba puts it, in order to be effective, mimicry must continually produce its slippage, its excess, its difference (86). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I may even lose my job (50). Here Nnaife shows that he only affiliates himself with the church to protect his job. Later, when he no longer works for Dr. and Mrs. Meers, Nnaife disobeys the church rules on monogamy and inherits one of his deceased brother s wives. Because he no longer needed the church to keep his job, he abandoned it, displaying that he was not truly a believer of the Christian faith. Nnu Ego appears to be even less converted to Christianity. She never truly abandons her traditional beliefs. Throughout the novel, she refers to her chi and, in the end, she is even made into a goddess herself. When she first moved to the city, Nnu Ego admitted that she did not understand what Christianity was all about, and as she continued attending church she found that it had become monotonous attending week after week (48). Unlike Joseph and Amusa, Nnu Ego never even appears to accept the colonial religion as her own. Her traditional beliefs continue to guide her throughout the story. Nnu Ego first realizes that she is pregnant for a second time because of a conversation with her chi, long after she has been living in Lagos, the white man s city. After the conversation in a dream with her chi, Nnu Ego realized that it would be difficult to explain it to him. This she knew was a bond between her and her chi and her coming child. Nnaife had little to do with it. He was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Michael Parenti s View On Human Nature And Why The Topic... 1. Discuss Michael Parenti s view on human nature and why the topic is important for our course: Michael Parenti, author and political scientist, describes human nature as a topic deeply intertwined with politics. The reason for this is because arguments for and against human nature being unalterable and the cause of everything destructive are both ideologically motivated and have a political implication. According to him, to say that human nature is accountable for our current social relations is no different than what renowned thinkers of the past have asserted for their own social circumstances. For instance, philosophers of the Classical Era such as Plato and Socrates believed everyone belonged to their place in the hierarchy. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem that Parenti proposes is that the worst of these qualities are acknowledged as central, while the best treated as secondary. Parenti extends his argument by saying that these qualities are seen as basic and are associated with human instinct. For example, some argue that people have the instinct to earn money and that this is evident in the fact that people earn money. Parenti discards this as a cycle of post hoc ergo propter hoc, in which the existence of something is weakly explained by holding the very thing s existence as its reason for existing. Both arguments on the topic of human instinct, concludes Parenti, fails to acknowledge the complex social processes that intertwine between innate proclivity and natural behavior. This topic is important to discuss in a politics class because it is a fundamental argument that can potentially give insight into how expansion of the capitalist system can produce political activity in the world. Parenti emphasizes that the global division of labor between the rich and poor and military coercion cannot be simply labeled as the outcome of the natural human way. For saying this is declaring the inescapability of the situation and dismissing all possibilities of social justice in the future. 3. Discuss Johan Galtung s Center Periphery framework: The representatives of nearly all 198 countries in the world gather at the United Nations General Assembly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) 1.0 DEFINITION Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most commonly diagnosed entrapment neuropathy (or neurological disorder) of the upper limb (Middleton Anakwe, 2014). 2.0 INCIDENCE AND PREVALENCE CTS Affects millions of people around the world with an incidence rate of 276 per 100,000 people per year (Alfonso, Jann, Massa, Torreggiani, 2010). It has been reported that CTS is more prevalent in woman and the working population (9.2% in women; 6% in men; 4% in the general population; 10% of the working population) (Alfonso et al., 2010; Meems, Truijens, Spek, Visser, Pop, 2015). Women are three times more likely to suffer from CTS than men, particularly in women older than 30years (Gurcay, Unlu, Gurcay, Tuncay, Cakci, 2009; Middleton ... • 6. What Went Wrong At Boeing The 787 was conceived as a revolutionary design that would be a replacement for the aging 767, cost about the same, but be 20% more fuel efficient. It would accomplish this by utilizing a construction of 50% composite something never before attempted in the commercial aviation arena. In summary, Boeing was endeavoring to build a brand new clean sheet aircraft from materials never used, using methods never attempted, and using a supply chain more far reaching than ever experienced by the plane maker. In retrospect, it may be easy to see why the 787 has had so many problems. The problems are so large that Forbes was prompted to publish an article titled, What Went Wrong at Boeing. (Denning 2013) Boeing has worked through most of its supply chain woes and has delivered over 60 787s to date. Boeing is now designing a next generation version of its supremely popular 777, the 777 8/9. Boeing s desire to reduce costs and production time by relying risk taking suppliers to design and produce major aircraft components has led to many failures and cost overruns in the 787 program. In order for Boeing to avoid the pitfalls of the 787 program, Boeing must take the lessons of the past in concert with good technology to ensure good management of the new 777 supply chain. Literature Review Boeing s move toward a supply chain that relied on utilizing risk taking suppliers for the 787 was meant to reduce the design timeframe and shorten the production cycle, however it actually ... Democracy In America: Equality and its Inevitable Isolation 25243320 PS 112C 12 February 2018 In Democracy in America, French diplomat Alexis De Tocqueville critically analyzes America s pioneering democratic political system. Tocqueville argued that this unique and unprecedented form of governing is a regime founded upon the idea of equality of conditions. In using this phrase, Tocqueville not only refers to the idea of material equality for all American citizens, but also takes a step further and claim that other differences, such as social or personal, shouldn t exist as well under these said conditions. Essentially, Tocqueville thinks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tocqueville elaborates that equality causes each man to seek his beliefs in himself, and this phenomenon is called individualism. He considers individualism as a sentiment that disposes each citizen to isolate himself from the mass of those like him and to withdraw to one side with his family and his friends. With individualism rising from equality, people become selfish and they feel as though they have no obligation to interfere with other people s lives, as they are too concerned with their own. Privacy and anonymity comes into play because once everyone is equal, people become less focused on comparing each other and more focused on themselves. Tocqueville reiterates that as social equality spreads there are more and more people who [become not] powerful enough to have much hold over others and individuals now share a mutual sentiment to not impose, not interfere, and not care. Tocqueville declares that individualism... dries up the source of public virtues... and attacks and destroys all the others and will finally be absorbed in selfishness. This growing habit of selfishness and loss of selfless virtue deeply severs people s connections from each other and further isolates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Blue Ridge Coffee Case Study Task 2 Memorandum TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Sales Strategy for the Flavored Coffee Following the introduction of the new flavored coffee, there is need for coming up with a sales strategy for increasing the sales of the new product. The strategy gives details on how the product will reach the customers, and in the end, making them aware of the difference between the new product line with the other products from the company. These strategies are necessary for improving the total company sales, consequently increasing the profitability of the company. The strategy is also necessary for the coming up with sales activities that position the flavored coffee to a state where it can gain a competitive advantage in the market. The most appropriate sales strategy of choice for meeting the sales objective of the company is the triple tiered sales strategy (Frain, 2009). Justification of the recommendation The strategy is necessary for the establishment of a good relationship between the wholesale clientele and the company. The association that the regional sales teams have with the wholesale customers is vital for giving the company the necessary information regarding the performance of the product. The triple tiered strategy is necessary for the identification of the challenges that the competitors are going through, and building on their weakness to increase the sales volume. Vertical Price Maintenance Case Summary Resale price maintenance (RPM) also referred to as vertical price fixing according to Sheffet and Scammon, is a controversial pricing practice for managing retail distribution channels . This pricing practice as Jedlicková points out, involves vertical agreements between a supplier and its distributors (manufacturer and her retailer) which establish a minimum retail price at which the latter will sell her products . This trade restraint permits a manufacturer to limit the normal pricing behaviour of its resellers and although common and essential in a market consisting of bilateral and multilateral arrangements, the restrictive aspects of these agreements lessen competition, primarily, inter brand competition . Certain trade restraints, under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An agreement between the supplier and a reseller could be considered both a vertical agreement (between supplier and reseller) and horizontal (between a seller and a competing reseller). The view that equates vertical price agreements with horizontal price agreements and hold that each should be treated the same way under the antitrust laws has no support in antitrust economics . Since Sylvania, lower courts have judged dual distribution agreements under the rule of reason, and the Supreme Court has never addressed the issue expressly . In Leegin, the plaintiff argued that the agreement was horizontal due to the dual character of Leegin s distribution: independent distribution through stores such as the plaintiff s, and semi direct sales through stores in which Leegin s president had an ownership interest . Some of the questions at oral argument suggested a sensitivity to the difficulties of distinguishing vertically driven from horizontally driven minimum RPM agreements. Justice Ginsburg noted that it was somewhat difficult to distinguish vertical from horizontal in this context, that in fact, the agreement that the manufacturer made with the dealers was more successful in getting a horizontal accord among the dealers than if the dealers had attempted it themselves, in which case some might have held back. Justice Stevens followed up with a more pointed question: Why should that be any different from the arrangement where those dealers all got together in the convention and recommended to the manufacturer that he impose a vertical restraint of precisely the same dimensions? ... • 11. Teaching And Learning Of A Second Language For many years, the teaching and learning of a second language has been the norm in schools throughout Europe and the United States. Teachers approached language instruction in a variety of ways like the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method, where students are taught fluency through conversation, or the Lexical Approach in which learners are able to understand and speak in large quantities of specific vocabulary and idioms (Richards and Rodgers 83 229). However, as the world progressed technologically, the methods of learning new languages transformed. Language teachers still inhabited classrooms and implemented these approaches, but computer programs complemented the lessons. Subsequently, desktop and mobile applications such as Duolingo surfaced, completely altering the way in which people were able to learn new languages. Although this media technology was the first of its kind, it is not necessarily new. While it can be considered old media, Duolingo still had a major impact on society, affecting social relationships and following technology. Before Duolingo, languages were taught not on desktop computers or mobile phones, but rather in classrooms. The audience was also significantly smaller. The United States, in the early 20th century, prohibited instructors from teaching foreign languages to children who had not passed the eighth grade (Scott 508). At the beginning of the book, Candide s outlook on Cunegonde was purely physical, he found Lady Cunegonde extremely beautiful...Their lips met, their eyes flashed, their knees trembled, and their hands would not keep still (Candide, 20 21). As Edna awakens , her objective becomes more defined; she wants to escape and free herself. Chopin often subtly compares Edna to a bird throughout the story; In the very beginning of the book, Edna is compared to a caged bird: A green and yellow parrot, which hung in a cage outside the door, (5). It is obvious now, after reading the book, that Chopin knew exactly what would become of Edna. A caged bird, when freed, often dies because it is not familiar with the wild; this is exactly what happens to Edna Pontellier. Later in the story, Mademoiselle Reisz tells Edna The bird that would soar above the level plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings. It is a sad spectacle to see the weaklings bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth (138). This is a more definitive foreshadowing than the caged bird; when Edna dies, it s because she is unable to find the strength to swim back, she s weak. She pushed herself too far and led herself astray mentally and literally; if she had stayed in her cage and had confined herself to a simple, mundane life, she would never be lost. This led to an unprecedented opportunity for new business. The Southern Pacific Railroad among other big business infiltrated politics and corruption followed for decades. Law makers passed laws which benefited them. The Progressives sought to give the people greater say in making and dismantling legislation. In doing so the Legislative branch lost power. To accomplish their goal in 1911 they enacted the ballot measures in order for citizens to bypass legislature approval and have a measure placed on the ballot. These two methods are the methods both prescribed by the U.S., which is known as the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and that which is used by the international community known as international financial reporting standards (IFRS). GAAP is regulated by the financial accounting standards board (FASB) while IFRS is regulated by the international accounting standards board (IASB). Looking from an outside point of view, most fail to realize how much of an impact music has on a student. The only loss they see when cutting a music program is that a student would simply no longer have the ability to learn an instrument. However, music education proves to provide much more knowledge and skills to a student than that. In learning any subject, a student learns much more than just that subject. For example, they might learn to think critically, think outside of the box, or learn to see things in different perspectives. Music is just the same. Any student gains much more than only the skill to play an instrument. In fact, music is special. It is much different than what is regularly taught in school. It takes on a different perspective of learning, but also, multiple aspects of a student s brain is needed in order to carry out the function to learn music. In these sources listed below, these articles focus on how music education does benefit its learner in many different ways. Music educated students excel not only in music, but studies have proven that they do better in academic based subjects than those who have not taken music classes. They gain skills that help them in thinking, learning, creating, and even perseverance. Students educated in music receive much more than they expect. These lasting ... She had a root canal done on the tooth in front of the crowned tooth because she would not listen to Dr. Pabst when he said that it was time to have to filling done. When trying to put the crown in her mouth she jumped again and Dr. Pabst was like you literally just got a root canal done, this tooth should not be bothering you at all because the root is gone. • 30. The Paleo Diet By Loren Cordain The Lemonade Cleanse In the article, The Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain, the author talks about America s fascination with diet fads, telling readers about their widespread appeal as a fix all for America s health problems and obesity. I have to admit, like a lot of people, I am a bandwagon jumper. Whether this new fad be a new fashion trend or a new video game sensation, chances are that I ve tried it. And new diet fads are no exception for me. One of the things that has become popular today is the cleanse. Cleanses can take many forms, but the main function of these is to detox the body. Many scientists, such as Dr. Joy Dubost, a dietitian and food scientist, warn people to shy away from such cleanses that claim to give the body a total detox. Dubost states that, Your body has built in mechanisms for detoxification, including your liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal system. Going on a cleanse is not going to aide these bodily systems in doing their job. These are short term diets that often consist solely of liquids that contain very little caloric value and can often make going on a cleanse dangerous. As a child, like many American children, I ate relatively unhealthily. For breakfast I would have sugary cereal and lunch and dinner usually followed up with something equally bad for my health. To have funded tax cuts the government will have to cut spending by eliminating waste and by reforming while preserving needed entitlement programs such as Welfare, Social Security and Medicare though slowing the rate of growth in spending on them. As quoted in a Business Week editorial quot;Cutting the growth in Medicare spending by $150 billion would help open the way for a truly balanced budget, lower interest rates and higher economic growth quot; (A Vote for a Sensible Center 194). His work does not differ greatly from the essential elements of Islamic art although there is no doubt that he takes a more modern approach on Islamic art. Komaroff mentions that the past s Islamic art and this new approach of Islamic art share a common artistic vocabulary based in the Arabic alphabet. As well, that the contemporary calligraphy is imbued with a sense of timelessness, while it, in turn, pulls the historical objects into the present day, giving them relevance. The fact that the calligraphy is presented as a heartbeat reading refers to modernism because of technological advancements. Therefore, the artwork is literally showing an aspect from the modern world. As well, the use of the space within the artwork is different to the approach of traditional Islamic art. • 33. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Heart Disease Heart disease is common among dogs almost as common as it is in humans. If you own a dog, and you have some concerns about your dog s health, it is important to understand what type of heart disease complications your dog may experience, especially in response to infection, illness, diet, and lack of exercise. For many dogs the symptoms and complications of heart disease are similar to what you would expect to see in human symptoms. Heart disease in dog s can be attributed to congenital complications as well. Typically, when your dog is young, you will want to have your dog evaluated to determine if there are any congenital complications that may pre dispose your dog to heart complications early in life. When compounded by heart disease development, due to poor diet or other infections, your dog will typically show signs of poor tolerance for exercise, have some swelling around the stomach and may even show signs of weight loss. When evaluated, your dog s veterinarian is going to listen for the presence of a gallop heart sound which is indicative of swelling in and around the heart. The gallop heart sound will be a sound that is similar to a third heart beat or echo and can typically only be heard with a stethoscope. Heart murmurs in dogs are also quite common and while they can, to some extent, be corrected with surgery, most dogs will live a long time with heart murmur. But, when heart disease is a concern, you will want to address the heart murmur issues as well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Discussion The gram stain result showed that my unknown was a pink long individual rods this means that it is a gram negative bacilli. The growth on the agar of unknown appear off white with straight growth and the broth growth was uniform fine turbidity. Uniform fine turbidity means there is cloudy growth throughout the test tube. As time progressed the broth appeared clear with some sediment. This could suggest that the bacterium is a slow grower or that the cells are older and dying. This can affect the results of testing. We did to place an agar slant and broth tube in the incubator for 48 hours at 25 degrees Celsius to see if the temperature affects the growth. The agar slant looked the same as agar slant that was grown at 37 degrees Celsius. The broth that was incubated for 48 hours at 25 degrees Celsius did suggest that it was able to grow better at this temperature being the growth in tube with the thick white clunks floating throughout and the uniform fine turbidity. All of the biochemical testing on this unknown was done at 37 degrees Celsius except when checking growth at 25 degree Celsius. The unknown showed a negative result citrate test. This means the unknown doesn t use citrate as its sole carbon source for energy. The thiogycollate test with unknown resulted with the growth within the band and below it. • 35. Analysis Of Helft Mir Ihr Schwestern Helft mir, ihr Schwestern is song number five from Robert Schumann s song cycle Frauenliebe und leben. The song cycle was set to the text of a poem cycle of the same name by Adelbert von Chamisso. Each poem in the cycle provides a glimpse into the story of a woman falling in love with a man, getting engaged and married to him, getting pregnant and having a child, becoming a widow and finally sharing her life story with her granddaughter. At the time that Schumann wrote this song cycle, he was going through a legal battle with his future wife s father over the right to marry her. This poem cycle contains themes of love, devotion, and longing that Schumann could personally relate with his feelings for Clara Wieck, who would soon become Clara Schumann. In this essay, I will demonstrate how Frauenliebe und leben is directly reflective of Robert Schumann s own life experiences. In so doing, I will be analyzing the ways in which Schumann set the music in a fashion that emphasized the structure and emotional content of the poetry. In order to better understand the context of Robert Schuman s setting of Helft mir, ihr Schwestern, I will first provide a general analysis of the song cycle as a whole. As Schumann set music to the various poems, he shifted the tonality to closely related keys, such as a fourth or fifth away, or shifting the relative or parallel major and minor keys. These shifts in tonality help emphasis the emotional development of the main character of the poems. The song cycle begins with a relatively slow and reflective song in the key of Bb major, where the main subject of the poem cycle first describes her feelings of intense, blind love for a man. The next song shifts the tonal center up a fourth to the key of Eb. In this song, the woman raises the man of her affection up on a pedestal of high praise, while she demeans herself to a lowly maid. Song three, moves the tonality to the relative minor of the previous song, C minor. This song is about the woman s disbelief that the man she adored so highly has fallen in love with her, and Schumann reflects that disbelief by making the music more erratic in tempo. He also emphasizes the disbelief by repeating the complete last stanza and then the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Death, Burial, And Resurrection Of Jesus Christ Why did they wait until 100 pages into the book to write this chapter? Earlier in the book when they said that I might want to set down the book they were right. This chapter has some really helpful concepts validated by scripture and explained with helpful models that should get every Christian excited about ministry to the city. This chapter is about sharing the good news with people and grabbing their attention and respect with goo deeds. This chapter is about the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This chapter is also about loving the city and living in the city in away that is compatible with the needs and dreams of the city. This is my favorite chapter in the book by far. It contains a really solid biblical theology for loving the city. I ve never seen any Christian in my life raise a person from the dead in the name of God. I may never see a supernatural miracle in my life, but I m certainly not going to say that it can t happen. Maybe we just don t have enough faith to raise people from the dead in the name of Jesus. More commonly I think we have the ability to transform the city though doing unwarranted acts of kindness in our community. In Galatians 2 Paul extorts us to remember the poor in good deeds of service. Let us be eager to serve in this way but not forget to share the life saving word of God. Paul also models for us in Romans 1 when he says he is eager to share the gospel and that it is the power of God s salvation for all that believe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The amazing city known for its southern style, Cajun cuisines, jazz music and its celebration of Mardi Gras will never be the same. The catastrophic storm tore through the city of New Orleans and surrounding areas destroying everything in its path and killing hundreds of people.
