What is stereotypes
• Stereotypes is a simple over simplified image/Idea about a
certain group of people or about certain things.
• Stereotyping is usually wrong about those certain groups.
• Stereotypes form the backbone of discrimination and
prejudice.
• Stereotypes can affect whole societies negatively and
therefore affect some peoples lives negatively.
• Stereotypes helps inequality grow especially against
minorities
• Mass media helps stereotypes grow.
Women stereotypes
• Mass media usually represents women in a certain way
according to certain stereo types.
• The woman can either be shown as the weak princess who
needs to be saved by the protagonist of the film
• In action movies women are usually a burden to the main
character.
• There are more males as main characters than females.
Men stereotypes
• Men are usually portrayed as strong and enduring, and
showing emotions is sign of weakness.
• There are multiple types of stereotypical male stereo types
like the wounded man, the Scoundrel, the jock and the hero
who all take different roles throughout different movies.
• the modern image of a man according to mass media is
having a perfect masculine body and always being in control
Racial stereotypes
• Racial stereotypes are very common in mass media.
• Most common is the depiction of black people as more
violent ignorant or just unreliable characters.
• Asian people (east Asian) are depicted as cheap labour or
hard working class people, or that random martial art
character.
• Latin people are usually stereotyped by either the domestic
worker or the male buffoon
Ethnic stereotypes
• Jewish people are usually portrayed as the rich , cruel and
greedy stereotype, that would do anything for money.
• Arabs specifically Muslims had been portrayed as terrorists in
mass media in recent year before that they were seen as
nomadic uncivilized nomads in older media.
