Magazine
My magazine will represent key issues in the world, covering both the main current issues and then the
smaller ones. The coverage of my magazine will include people of all races, genders, ethnicity’s and age,
educating people on different social groups, as well as giving everyone a voice and chance to be heard .
My magazine will look at the bigger picture and explain views of many different social groups, it will not
conform to one ideology, but assess and represent each view equally. People intentions will be denoted
fairly, more than just their stereotype; archetypes and countertypes will be commonly used to represent
people as people, breaking the typical boundaries of stereotypes, connoting the idea that the happenings
is a forward moving magazine.
My target audience is a socially conscious, 16-25, middle to upmarket demographic. I will appeal and
identify with this audience by reporting on topics they are interested in, for example: global warming and
what people aren’t doing about it. Dennis publishing also publish some other magazines that identify
with a similar audience to mine, for example ‘this week’ is another news magazine, reporting on current
affairs, however I feel that this is aimed at an older audience, my audiences’ expectations will be to report
on topics for a younger, more modern audience. My magazine will also have representation of many
different cultures, so that it is clearly inclusive of all. As it is a current affairs magazine will have some
direct mode of address, things like “what you can do”, but it will be rhetorical, rather than instructions
and commands.
My magazine will have a front cover which will include a mast head reading my title, ‘The happenings’,
this will be in a serif font, I feel this is more belonging in a current affairs magazine, it will appeal to a
younger audience, whilst being formal and attention grabbing. As well as the masthead I will have a main

image on the cover which will be of a family standing at a door or Windsor, looking very scared, showing
how corona virus is creating panic and worry, but also drastically impacting normal life. As well as my
magazine I will have to create a short audio clip (podcast) to discuss a significant current affair that is
effecting young people, a specific topic, rather than the broader topic of corona virus- it will be about the
an education system and the effect covid has had on it.
My research has impacted my original plan because of other current affairs magazines. After researching
many different contents pages I decided I wanted to include many more sections, for example after
seeing the economist’s contents page I realised how many different topics they cover. I also looked in the
audience and market research and realised how the audience demographics of other current affairs
magazine are mainly upmarket, 35-50, men; however, I wanted to make my magazine more appealing to
people of a younger age, so I have been researching topics that will meet my audiences expectations.
For my second magazine i will be creating a cover around the black lives matter movement, the mian
image will be of someone holding a sign with black lives matter written on it, it will be in black and white
to follow the trend of black lives matter photography and the model will have a very serious expression,
to show the severity of the situation.

My two products, a magazine and a website, will be converged by having the same house styles, marron
red and navy blue, with a cloudy blue around the contents- will be seen in the magazine and the website.
I will have the same contents on my contents page and my website menu.
The texts and design of the pages will have similar characteristics, serif font, lines on both pages; as well
as clear ideologies and views of topics.
