Magazine and Website
My chosen brief which is to create a current affair magazine will include all aspects of media. One of the
four areas of media is representation, this is how media texts deal with and present factors such as
gender, race, ethnicity, age, and social issues. Media texts have the power to shape an audience’s
knowledge and understanding about these important topics, so it is vital that a clear and positive
representation is displayed. I will embody this by including different social groups of a form of identity
and this will then lead to the audience understanding the equality of social groups. The ‘Black Lives
Matter’ movement is currently vast in the media and our lives; therefore, I have chosen to represent this
in my magazine. By including this in my magazine, it connotates the power and importance of black lives
and shows that they should not be treated differently to other races. The countertype of the colour white
is that it represents purity, my front cover for one of the issues is black, this is because I want to send a
message to the audience that black can also suggest integrity and pleasure. Also, for my second social
group I have chosen to signify gender by using both male and female with different ages. This is
important because it disregards the stereotype of genders not having the same opportunity (in work life
or home life) and It shows that they are equivalent no matter if young or old. In addition, it helps
contribute to the distinguish of the current architypes which is that males are masculine and risk takers
while females are feminine and timid.
The target audience for my magazine is aimed from the age sixteen and above. This magazine will relate
to previous media texts produced by the Weekly Times as it will include the same three contents
(national, environmental, international). I expect to meet the target audience expectations by being
apathetic, I will do this by convincing them that the subject matters. I intend to use informational texts,
so they will be able to learn, this is part of what the audience requires. Also, my magazine consists of key
media language which will communicate meaning for everyone.
My research has impacted my planning decisions in all aspects of the magazine, including the website.
My magazine is published weekly so I had to set an appropriate price tag as I will mostly have repeat
customers. My target audience suggested that £1.99 would be suitable to be able to buy weekly as

The synergy between print and online marketing has many benefits. To exceed in marketing, it is vital to
have both print and online content to maximise the amount of attention to the magazine from advertising
efforts. In addition, it helps boost brand recognition locally as well as globally because online networking
can reach and attract customers all over the world. My magazine will be consistent in the brand design,
this will allow the brand to become established. I will do this by keeping the same fonts and layout
between the website and magazine, therefore customers will be able to recognise the brand name.
