Magazine and Online
In order to establish a clear brand identity of a real-life magazine across a cover and contents page of the
first 2 issues, I created a media text that would appeal to a target audience of 16-25 years old of the class
C economic demographic. This allows Bauer to fill a gap in the market as their other magazine’s target
the AB economic demographic. Across both covers and contents pages, I included the same, simple
sans-serif font type that effectively connotes the eye-catching design of my magazine that keeps in-line
with audience expectations. I have done this by making my masthead clearly legible by positioning it at
the top of the page on each issue. While creating a totally new brand, as well as the ideologies that go
with it, I kept it in line with Bauer’s other magazines with a bright and vibrant colour scheme that stands
out and grabs the audience’s attention. The main image on each of my cover page’s will consist of a
model that takes up a big portion of the page. The model will be positioned facing the camera; this
engages the reader and has been used by Bauer in previous magazines. The headlines used in each
issue are extreme to attract the target audience and increase their interest levels. This will have positive
effects due to the considerable social media usage of my target audience of 16-25 years old as they can
take to social media to spread awareness of the magazine.

To continue to follow the codes and conventions of other real-life magazine websites, I researched others
that are both owned or related to Bauer media. This has allowed me to create a website that includes an
original title that is consistent to my brand as it is also used on the cover of both issues of my magazine;
this retains brand identity. The name of the magazine being ‘Really?’ makes it more memorable to reader
as it is short and sweet. I have also included a menu bar to make it easy to access and browse the
website. This will allow the users to navigate around the website with ease therefore, increasing their
satisfaction levels. The website will also include a brief introduction of what the magazine consists of as
well as other useable links giving information on where you can access it.

It is important for a media text to have a consistent and memorable brand image across all of its
products. This is used to show the reader that both the magazine and website are representative of the
same product and aim to reach the same target audience. I have shown this by clearly using the same
font-type for the masthead. A less obvious use of this would be how bold text is used across the covers,
contents and web page. Bold text is used to highlight importance and add emphasis. To create synergy,
similar colour’s will also be used throughout the magazine and website – also reinforcing brand identity.
