State of gender inequality

Gender inequality is assessed using four key areas: health, education, economic participation, and political engagement. Pakistan and Afghanistan rank as the worst countries in the world for gender equality based on equitable division of resources and opportunities between men and women according to the 2013 Gender Inequality Index. Ethnographic studies can provide understanding of gender inequality in the Afghan-Pak region.

Gender Imbalance in India Causes and Emerging Issues
The provisional data of 2011 Census has once again highlighted the problem of severe sex imbalance in the country, especially in 0 6 age group. According to Census of 2011, the sex ratio in 0 6 year’s age group has declined to 914 females per 1000 males as compared to 927 in 2001. It shows an increasing trend of male preference as compared to female in the last decade. The phenomenon of son preference is coupled with death of young females due to lack of medical care, under nutrition, female infanticide, and sex selective abortions. Sen 1992, 2003 first addressed the disturbing trend by highlighting that millions of females in India are missing because of widespread neglect in health care, nutrition and prenatal care. The steep decline in sex ratio in northern and western states is a cause of worry. Technological developments permitting sex selective abortions have seriously aggravated sex imbalance in these states. The trend of rapid decline in sex ratio has given rise to serious social, demographic and cultural problems. This present paper attempts to explain the causes for gender imbalance and its implications on the society as a whole. Chandrakant N. Assessment and Analysis of the Overall Situation of Women and Children: Bangl...
This article focuses on the situation assessment and analysis of children and women in Bangladesh provides an overview of the situation regarding education, health and nutrition, protection from abuse and exploitation, participation, and water, sanitation, and hygiene. As Bangladesh turns 46, improvements in women’s wellbeing and increased agency are claimed to be some of the most significant gains in the post-independence era. Various economic and social development indicators show that in the last 20 years, Bangladesh has made substantial progress in increasing women’s access to education and healthcare and in improving women’s participation in the labor force. In Bangladesh the latest BDHS finds that only twenty percent women work for cash. Among them only 48 percent are able to spend their money on their own, the rest are dependent upon spouses or other family members to take joint decisions on spending. Women in rural areas of Bangladesh enjoy less freedom and choices regarding their reproductive health rights than men. Male domination and socio-economic barriers impede the reproductive health rights of women in rural Bangladesh and to improve maternal and child health more organizational intervention is needed in the rural areas in Bangladesh and to initiate change in existing rural social order.

Adolescence is a life’s essential transition phase starting around 10, 11 or 12 years and concludes between the age of 18-21 years. Deficiency of reproductive health information and sexual experimentations in this stage of storm and stress expose adolescents to grave health pressure. Adolescents must have access to logical Reproductive Health information to increase healthy attitude towards Reproductive Health issues. The aim of writing this paper was to assess the the knowledge of adolescent students studying in Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir state towards Reproductive Health Education and to be familiar with reproductive health issues among adolescents. The present study was carried out on 400 Adolescent Higher Secondary School students of Jammu region using a well designed pre-tested questionnaire. The results of our study showed that students had constructive attitude towards Reproductive Health Education as majority (boys = 86.0%, girls=84.5%) of respondents recommended Reproductive Health Education in school curriculum. Further, 40.0% boys and 35.5% girl respondents were of the opinion that lecture by expert is a preferred method of imparting Reproductive Health Education, 32.0% boys and 28.5% girl students under study favored to communicate with Doctors/Health Workers followed by parents brothers/sisters (23.0%) in case of girls and friends (23.5%) in case of boys concerning Reproductive Health issues. Further, the study revealed that girl students (51.5%) favored to get married under 24 years as they were of the belief that it is the prime of life, and can give birth without much troubles whereas majority of boys understudy (65.5%) told that they prefer to get married above 24 years as they desire to complete education first and find a appropriate job in order to feed family unit. Majority of the respondents (58.5%) believed that youth living in urban areas possesses more knowledge about reproductive health than youth living in rural areas. Further, majority of the students possesses good knowledge about HIV/AIDS and STDs. It is concluded from our study that there is a requirement of providing proper scientific information to teenagers concerning reproductive health by incorporating Reproductive Health Education in school syllabus and lectures by experts in order to advance their awareness and consequently reproductive health condition.
Prevalence of Undernutrition among Baalwadi Going Children between 2 5 Years ...
Children are the backbone of any country. Under nutrition is the underlying cause of more than half of all deaths in children aged less than five years worldwide. This study was designed majorly to study the prevalence of undernutrition in children. The objectives of the study were to assess the prevalence of undernutrition stunting, underweight and wasting in children between 2 5 years of age and to analyse major determinants influencing undernutrition. 102 children aged between 2 5 years of age were selected from two different baalwadis of Mumbai through purposive, random sampling. Socio demographic data was collected using a self designed, structured questionnaire from mothers. Anthropometric measurements like weight, height, MUAC were done to determine nutritional status. Anthropometric data revealed that out of total children screened n=102 , 34 children were well nourished and 66 children were undernourished where 27 children were underweight, 24 were wasted 16 were stunted. 55 children had low MUAC. The factors that were found to be significantly associated with child undernutrition were age p=0.046 , gender p=0.000 , maternal education p=0.007 , employment status of mother p=0.001 and number of meals taken by the child daily p=0.000 . The prevalence of undernutrition among children of Baalwadi was high considering the sample size was small. Assessment of Premarital Sexual Practices and Associated Factors among Privat...
Background Sexual activity among adolescent has been reported to be on the increasing worldwide. Globally, puberty is occurring earlier for both boys and girls, and the age at which people marry is rising. These leave a widening gap of time during which young adults can potentially engaged in premarital sexual activity. Therefore this study was done to assess pre-marital sexual practices and associated factors among private college students in Bahir Dar city, Northwest Ethiopia.
Method: An institution based cross-sectional study was employed in private college, Bahr Dar, North west Amhara, Ethiopia from July to December 2016. The sample size to each college was allocated using probability proportional to size (number of student) allocation, and study participants were selected by systematic sampling technique. A total of 402 students were included in the study. Pre-testing of the questionnaire was undertaken. Data was collected using a pre-tested structured questionnaire through self administration. Data entry and analyses were performed using SPSS statistical packages (version 20 for Windows). Bivariate and Multivariable analysis were computed.
Result: : A total of 344 students took part in the survey. More than one fifth of survey respondents (23.3%) reported that they have had premarital sex. Multi--‐variate logistic regression analysis showed that male respondents were two times more likely to be have premarital sexual intercourse as compared to female respondents (AOR: 2.3,95% CI:1.4-4.1). Students who watch video, movies or other entertainment programs were more than five times more likely to start pre-marital sexual debut than those not watching video, movies or other entertainment programs (AOR: 5.5, 95%CI: 2.7-11.2).similarly work to earn money was found to be positively associated with premarital sex in this study (AOR: 3.2, 95% CI:1.8-5.7).
Conclusion and recommendation: A significant number of students had started pre marital sexual activity that might predispose them to varied sexual and reproductive health problems. Hence, sex education & targeted behavioural change interventions are recommended.

Gender Inequalities in the Context of Basic Education A Literature Review
Gender inequality in education has been a buzzword in our educational system in recent decades. This paper identifies the factor that creates gender inequality in education and in the world in general. Our study focuses on the identified factors that elevate the existence of gender inequality in education. Based on the literature, recent studies and reports shows that there are 5 factors that contribute to the existence of gender inequality in education and these include poverty, geographical remoteness, armed conflict, lack of school infrastructure, and quality of education. The researchers strongly believed that our young learners are our future innovators and heroes, thus, without quality education none of these would be achieved. The results suggest that our educational system needs to collaborate with the private sector and provide innovative measures to address these issues of gender inequality in education. Crispina Ana N. Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale war
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
