Prevailing Ingenuity in Edgar Allan Poe s
The Purloined Letter.
In crafting the detective mystery, Edgar Allan Poe is the only author credited with inventing a new
genre of literature. His contribution of this brand of story telling greatly influences writers to this
day. The Purloined Letteris the final tale in the trilogy of the clever and cunning amateur detective,
C. Auguste Dupin. In this story, The Prefect of the Parisian police calls upon Dupin to aid in an
investigation that has baffled and frustrated the police. Dupin finds a worthy adversary in the
antagonst, Minister D_. Dupin must identify with the mind of the criminal in order to retrieve a
stolen letter and return it to its rightful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A month later, Prefect G_. returns to Dupin s apartment to report that the letter has yet to be found.
The Prefect offers a reward of fifty thousand francs to anyone who can find it. Upon hearing of the
reward, Dupin hands Prefect G_. a checkbook and tells him to fill out the check and he will turn
over the letter. After taking possession of the found document, G_. rushes from the apartment, and
Dupin informs the narrator how he managed to obtain the purloined letter.
Unknown to the narrator or the Prefect, Dupin, wearing colored spectacles, visits the Minister
under false pretenses. During his visit his eyes search the apartment and he notices a damaged
and soiled letter placed openly on a rack, and determines it to be the document in question. He
purposefully forgets his gold snuffbox as he leaves the Ministers apartment. The next morning,
when Dupin returns to retrieve his forgotten property, a planned disturbance outside of Minister
D_. s apartment allows Dupin to replace the original document with a fraudulent reproduction he
had prepared the night before. This done, he exits the apartment, leaving Minister D. stripped of
the power of blackmail over the Lady. He also leaves in the false document a message for Minister
D_. to let him know who had made a fool of him.

Dudley Randall s Fahrenheit 451
If no one bother to question and challenge the rules, everyone are bound to be suppressed by the
those in power. Throughout history , there had been many dictators, those who took full control
over other s lives. However, many leaders and supporters also fought to keep everyone s rights. The
novel, Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, and Dudley Randall s poem The Ballad of
Birmingham fully illustrate that it is appropriate to defy rules when people civil rights are violated.
In the novel Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury told the story about a futuristic world where people totally
conform and firemen actually go start fire instead of putting them out. A seventeen years old girl,

The story set place during the Civil Right movement in a black household of a little girl and her
mother. The poem signal that African Americans are not gifted with their freedom when the girl
asked her mother to join the Freedom March to make our country free (Randall). Getting their
freedom taken away, many African Americanchildren march the street of Birmingham to regain
their natural rights. Taking a stand to fight for one s right is the responsibilities of everyone.
Another example is the mother s reason for refusing to let her daughter go march because of her
fear of the danger behold there. The mother then direct her daughter to go to church instead
(Randall). Ironically, the girl meet her fate at the place thought to be the most sacred place. This
ironic situation revealed that ignoring the violation of the rules upon civil rights is as dangerous as
challenging it.
Rules need to be challenged when it disregards people s civil right. Bradbury s novel Fahrenheit
451 and Randall s poem The Ballad of Birmingham provide examples that explain the reason for a
suitable situation to defy the rules. Montag, in Fahrenheit 451, is fighting for his right of
intelligence. The little girl, in The Ballad of Birmingham, also suggest that she join the march to
make her country free. Some may argue that everyone

Scott Michael Sander Under The Influence
Under the influence: Paying the price of my father s booze is an essay that was written by the
author Scott Russell Sanders. He expressed his grievous feeling towards his father s drinking
habit and used both comparison and allegories to explain how serious his father s alcoholism was
and the negative effects he had during his childhood. Sander described his father as a demon after
he had a drink which shows the horror that can be caused if a familyhas an alcoholic father. For
instance, in the passage, Sander says I use the past tense not because he ever quit drinking but
because he quit living that implies how his father s alcoholism behavior ruined his life while he
was in his childhood. Furthermore, there were a lot of disappointments going on in his family due
to his father s serious alcoholism. This is well evident when Sander articulates that He became a
stranger, as fearful to us as any graveyard lunatic, not quite frothing at the mouth but fierce enough,
quick tempered, explosive; who would ease his pain? Not mother, who fussed and pleaded but
could not budge him; not my brother and sister, who were only kids . This clearly reveals the
disappointments they had towards their father s addiction in drinking.... Show more content on

Sander himself becomes a workaholic for he can no more save himself through work than he
could save his father. He uses the contradiction between him and his father to show the two
totally different worlds that he lived in. For now, I could not feel how hard he tried to forget the
pain of not saving his father from drinking addiction, but I could feel how he tried his utmost best
to be a role model for his

Sonnet 116 and Love Is Not All
William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 and Edna St. Vincent Millay s Love Is Not All both attempt
to define love, by telling what love is and what it is not. Shakespeare s sonnet praises love and
speaks of love in its most ideal form, while Millay s poem begins by giving the impression that the
speaker feels that loveis not all, but during the unfolding of the poem we find the ironic truth that
love is all. Shakespeare, on the other hand, depicts love as perfect and necessary from the
beginning to the end of his poem. Although these two authors have taken two completely different
approaches, both have worked to show the importance of love and to define it. However,
Shakespeare is most confident of his definition of love, while Millay seems... Show more content on

These are all things that we must have in order to survive, but even though love can give us
none of these things, Millay then goes on to say that many men are dying because of a lack of
love: Yet many a man is making friends with death / Even as I speak, for lack of love alone (8 9).
It important to note that the buildup of what love cannot do is necessary for the dramatic
declaration that we need love regardless of how useless it may seem. This is a cleaver ploy by
Millay because although she has effectively shown how worthless love is on a physical level,
she has also effectively shown how necessary love is on an emotional level. It is important to
note that the first eight lines are a part of a single sentence. This is important because it means
that if we remove the repeated poetic verse found within these lines, we discover that Millay is
simply saying Love is not all... / Yet many a man is making friends with death / Even as I speak,
for lack of love alone (1 8) . This is a justifiable conclusion because after the words Love is not all
the author uses a colon, which means that the lines following are simply a definition for what she
means by Love is not all (1) . When put in such simple terms, it s easy to see how this is almost
indistinguishable from saying, Love is not all, but it would be better to be dead than not have it.
The second half of the poem is very different from the beginning half because the lines that follow

Avignon Papacy Research Paper
The Avignon Papacy was a period of time in which the Roman capital of the Church was moved to
Avignon, France. This move was symbolic of the French domination over the Catholic Church, both
politically and economically. After Pope Boniface s failure at the hands of King Philip and the
death of his successor, the Catholic Conclave elected the French Archbishop Clement V as Pope.
Clement refused to move to Romeso the papacy was moved to Avignon. The result of this move and
the subsequent French benefitting advancements was the Church losing most of their respect,
while gaining the reputation of being corrupt, scheming, and materialistic.
For 67 years, the papacy remained at Avignon, until finally Pope Gregory XI relocated it back to
Rome. This

With the current war dwindling down in Afghanistan, the Field Artillery s focus becomes more
on training in a force on force style fight. Their focus is to utilize older conventional style war
fighting tactics on new updated Artillery systems. The following quote from Major General
Mark McDonald truly describes our current situation, We ve got most of the pieces in place to be
able to train the digital system. What we have to do is get everybody really comfortable with it,
train with it more often, so that s their go to system, (Mathis). The result will be to pull away
from older manually computed firing data and to begin to rely solely on the newer updated digital
systems, thus allowing for the safer, more accurate and timely fires that will be needed in future
conflicts. What does this mean for enlisted members and officers alike? The introduction of these
modernized systems will provide several opportunities for cross branch training and deployment, as
well as opportunities for joint operations that have yet to be discovered. Additionally, this
modernization will present substantial challenges to both officer and enlisted leadership alike,
requiring both to be more technically qualified in order to be effective leaders (Dedmond and

Piety In Confucianism
In truth, filial piety, humaneness and reciprocity are three main ideas, which plays very important
role in Confucianism. To begin with, Confucius is a famous philosopher who gave advices to the
rulers and individuals on their behaviors. Worth to mention, Confucius s teachings were complied
in the Analects after his death. Moreover, Filial Piety means respect for one s parents, and most
people is familiar with that idea in Confucianism. From what I learnt in China, filial is the starting
point of virtue. In addition, I think filial piety is necessary in a family, and the children should show
the respect to their parents. Another importance virtue is reciprocity, which means one should reply
what another person has provided. Furthermore, reciprocity

Understanding The Birth Of The Renaissance
Understanding the birth of The Renaissance is as simple as understanding that the quality of a
straight razor shave is superior to that of a commercially stamped multi bladed razor. Looking
retroactively at the years leading up to this rebirth one can note the beginning of reflection the
Ancient World and the ins and outs of Roman culture. Influencing architecture, art, and social
construction, a desire for the classics pulled Europe from the slumping years of the fading High
Middle Ages.
Actively bringing back Roman and Gothic elements of architecture including: Domes, support
methods, and construction techniques were all features included in Renaissance architecture,
however the learning and understanding of these classical techniques allowed the Renaissance man
to further innovate. Master Goldsmith, Filippo Brunelleschi, was one of the key overseers of the
crown jewel of these new innovations, a reimagined dome. Inspired by Gothic Architecture,
Brunelleschi set out to remove the flying buttress that would normally support the dome externally.
Removing these pivotal means of support required that new forms of support be found and
implemented. Using the herring bone design often found ornamentally in Rome, weight could now
be pushed down and outward effectively allocating pressure. Also borrowed from Gothic
architecture was the use of chained support. Like the Amiens Cathedral multiple linked chains were
used to act as a binding tool for increased stability. Additionally

The Negative Effects Of Video Games On The Four Domains Of...
Topic: Video Games Introduction When it comes to emerging adulthood, video games is
controversial topic on whether it is beneficial, non beneficial, or possibly a mix of both.
Emerging adulthood can be defined as the period of someone s life from the age of 18 25, in
which they explore the possibilities of multiple life decisions. My early emerging adulthood
years consisted of playing multiple video games, to be specific, massive multiplayer online role
playing games (MMORPG or MMO for short). There are many different versions of MMO but
they all share the characteristics of keeping up with multiple variables, swift decision making, and
retaining a vast amount of information. These requirements had long lasting beneficial effects on
my mental processes, decision making, memory, perception and awareness. On the other hand, it
negatively affected my self esteem, physical fitness and connection with my family. This paper
will ultimately examine the effects of video games on my late emerging adulthood years within
the context of the four domains of human development, cognitive, social, emotional, and
physiological. Cognitive Developmental Domain The beneficial effects of MMOs on my mental
processes can be related to intelligence, or also referred to as the way in which we organize,
process, and receive information. Chiappe et al (2013) conducted a research on 350 junior students
at CSU Long Beach. Of these participants, there were 100 regular gamers and 250 non gamers.

Climbers Who Summited Everest Research Paper
Bravery doesn t mean being fearless. It means to be full of fear but still not being dominated by it.
This means that bravery is having fear, but not letting it stop you from anything. In this essay I will
be writing about three climbers who summited Everest with disabilities. Everest is the highest
mountain in the world. It rises 29,035 feet or 5.5 miles in the air. When climbing, there are dangers
of avalanches, ice, hidden cracks, storms, and crevasses. Erik Weihenmayer, Paul Hockey, and Tom
Whittaker summited Everest with disabilities.
Tom Whittaker summited Everest with an amputated leg. He attempted to climb it three times
and he never gave up when he was unsuccessful. He didn t give into fear or anyone telling him he
couldn t do it. On Thanksgiving in 1979, a car crash shattered both of his legs. His right foot and
lower leg had to be amputated. He tried three times to summit Everest. On his third attempt he
summited Everest in May, 1998. He says that climbing Everest is more of a challenge and more
important to him since he is disabled. Tom Whittaker s current quest is to climb the highest peaks

Causes of Low Electoral Participation in the United States
In any Democracy, voter turnout is important as a measure of how truly democratic the election
was, the more people that do vote, the more democratic the election. Yet America one of the largest
democratic nations in the world still has a poor turnout.
A survey conducted in 1983 concluded that America was twenty third out of twenty four nations in
respect of its voter turnout, with only Switzerland having a lower turnout, however researchers
believe that the supposed voting age population contains a lot of people not eligible to vote, as

In America there electoral system resembles a modified version of the British first past the post
system therefore if you live in an electoral college that has voted Democrat time and time again, it
may seem like a wasted vote if you support the Republicans. Also the success polls that are
conducted from the very first primaries and caucuses right up to election day build voter apathy.
Statistically those who do higher in these polls the better they will do in the election, assuming that
people vote without partisan alignment, they aren t going to vote for a candidate who is unlikely to
do well in the election.
The US voting system includes voter registration, controlled at a state level, often it is a
longwinded process, with many forms, and a lot of scrutiny over who gets to register. There are
various restrictions in who can register, often convicted criminals cannot vote, and in some
extremes neither can there families e.g. California in the 2000 election. Rules vary from state to
state, some allow registration 28 days before election time and others allow registration on the day
of the election e.g. Wisconsin. Statistics show that in states where there is election day registration
turnout is ten percentage points higher than in those without. Despite these figures there has sill

A Look into Data Mining Today with the ever growing use of computers in the world, information

of use of this information has come to be known as data mining. This term known as data mining
has been around only for a short time but the actual collection of data has been happening for
centuries. The following paragraph will give a brief description of this history of data collection.

The Art And Science Of Professional Nursing Practice
The Art and Science of Professional Nursing Practice Frequently, nurses are considered the
foundation of the healthcare industry and the stakes are high when certain qualities must be
possessed when working with patients and providing quality care. Nurses have a profound
ability to apply strong skill based knowledge with a caring and compassionate attitude that can
improve patient outcomes. They also play an important role that can positively or negatively
affect the way patients and family members view healthcare as a whole. Professional nursing
practice is an art and science when both elements are integrated together to form a unique way of
practice, but what does that really mean? The purpose of this paper is to define nursing as an art
and science and explain how these two concepts come together to form an extraordinary way to
perform professional nursing practice that contributes to the well being of the patient. Nursing as a
Science Over the years there have been vast changes in healthcare that require nurses to go above
and beyond in their level of expertise in technology and scientific knowledge (Palos, 2014). Nurses
have to evolve with those changes, therefore they must utilize educational tools and develop skills
to stay current with the advancements that hospitals require for practice (Palos, 2014). Palos (2014)
also found that nurses have a responsibility to use their critical thinking skills, make sound clinical
judgments, and apply evidence based nursing

Feminism In The Yellow Wallpaper
One feminist theory is that whenever woman hold power in society they are treated as the other
. Women have always been seen as domestic or the care takers of the family; women stay home
with the kids, tend to dinner and the cleaning. That being said whenever a woman, like Jane, tries
to step out of the nurturing role, men tend to feel intimidated and was unsure how to react to
such a thing happening (like when John and Jane s brother diagnose her to be mentally ill all
because she desires to write). In the time of the story, Jane is seen as mentally ill because she
desires to read and write while her husband who happens to be a physician of high standing says
she tends to have slightly hysterical tendency(Page 1, paragraph 5). In The Yellow Wallpaper
Gilman uses the yellow wallpaper to symbolize Jane, who represents the way women use to be
treated as the lesser in society.
In the time this story was written, back in 1899, men and women were not viewed as equals and
this short story is a prime example. As the readers go through the story they can literally see the
shifts in her sanity by her illness and the almost revolting yellow wallpaper, which represents all
the women who in that time period were overlooked by the men in society. In 1899, women did
not have much power. Women were to assume the role of becoming a wife and tending to the
husband s needs, they are not their own individual. She even says he is very careful and loving and
hardly lets me stir

The Stately White Columns Fice Occupied By William J....
The stately white columns the interior for The Arkansas capital lead to the executive office
occupied by William J. Clinton only 30 years ago. After a successful college career at an elite
university Governor Clinton decided make the move home to his birth state of Arkansas. Hillary
Rodham begrudgingly followed along with fierce independence and a law degree. Rodham
maintained a job at the university of Arkansasafter her husband s loss in a congressional election,
and practiced law through court appointments. Eventually her husband would successfully run and
become Arkansas s Attorney General, then Governor. As Hillary continued to practice law, her
focus would eventually shift to early childhood education and health. Rodham wasn t what
Arkansas envisioned for a first lady at the time. She was a working wife, who refused to take her
husbands last name, and didn t seem to fill the role as a traditional homemaker. Still, her husband
remained fairly popular after his rebounding election in 1982. In 1992 and 1996, Clinton easily
carried the state, although that was the last time a Democrat would take the six electoral votes
from Arkansas. Now in a matchup with New Yorker Donald Trump, it is highly unlikely Arkansas s
former first lady will come close to Trump in the Natural State. Racial distribution, religion,
education, a large rural population, and indications from previous elections, all point toward a
significant Clinton defeat on November eighth.

Two Reasons To Fear Grendel s Mother Analysis
Beowulf offers us two reasons to fear the Grendel s Mothers of the world. The first is the anger
of someone scorned and the second is the temptation of greatness in immorality. These two things
from the oldest work of literature in all of history should also be feared in reality as they both
wreak havoc where ever they preside.
I learned long ago that I was not perfect and that I would make copious amounts of mistakes in
my lifetime. I like to think that this knowledge has forced me to be responsible for my actions
though I am not sure that this is always true. Whether I hold firmly to this responsibility at all
times or not, I know that all actions have consequences and that they can be good or bad. I rather

While she can be the secret avenger of our actions, she can also be the thing that tempts us with
what we want most only to let it destroy us once we have it. Beowulf was tempted with fame and
glory and he gave in. He got what he wanted but at the price of his morality and self assurance. He
gave up these things that he thought he didn t need in exchange for his largest dreams. It was only
afterwards that he discovered that he lost more than he gained. But this fault is not particular to
Beowulf alone; it is something we are all afflicted with. There are Grendel s Mothers in all aspect
of life. They tempt us with things we want like money, success, and the favor of others. We trade
away the same things that Beowulf did to achieve what we want and more. The price varies but
the outcome is always the same: we realize that our priorities were out of order and must deal with
the consequences. I am not excluded from this. There have been times when I gave into temptation
because I thought the outcome would be better. Times when I traded my honesty to keep the favor

The Watts Music Festival
In a world of political discourse with racism and hate running rampant, a few great men and women
came together to bring unity and harmony like never before: in the form of massive music festivals.
In the late 1972, the black community came together for a concert known as Watts Summer
Festival. In 1969, the largest musicfestival of its time was held, and was known as Woodstock.
Later that year, the Rolling Stones put together a massive free concert in San Francisco known as
the Altamont Concert. All of the concerts and music festivals were not aimed at making money or
becoming famous, but about the unity of people through the art of music. On August 20, 1972, the
Watts music festival was held in Los Angelas. This was a festival put together by the Stax
recording company in order to honor the men, women, and children who were devastated in the
riots in Watts, a primarily African Americancommunity. Performers in this eight hour festival
included James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Isaac Hayes, the late Harmonica Fats, WAR, Richard Pryor,
Nancy Wilson, Gil Scott Heron, Barry White, the Watts Prophets, Charles Wright and the 103rd

The Epic Of Beowulf By Beowulf
People throughout the world practice a variety of religions. Some religions are more popular than
others such as Buddhism versus Jainism. Religions tend to spread within a society and then die
back down. However, there are still people amongst us who believe or may even still practice
archaic religions. Some religions date back to 700 A.D such as Christianity and paganism. Over the
course of hundreds of years both religions have evolved. Throughout different works of literature,
people are able to understand the original aspects of these different religions. Due to the
construction of this Beowulf, students and professors are able to study and get a true understanding
of a pagans demeanor and how life evolves through their eyes. Throughout the epic poem Beowulf,
paganism is exemplified as this epic hero falls victim to fate while embarking on his journey
through life fighting monsters and chasing after his fame.
To begin with, Beowulf was composed in Old English by an anonymous writer between the sixth
and seventh century, and it is known for portraying the emergence of the Anglo Saxonsand their
way of life. Adams David Leeming, author of The Anglo Saxons 449 1066 , stated that the island
of Great Britain, secluded from the European continent, seemed perfect for the birth of legends,
poets, and the belief in elves due to its rain drenched and almost always fogged weather. This type
of weather is ideal for such stories involving heroes and legends. This island has been

Essay about Uncle Tom s Cabin and the Grief of Harriet...
Overcoming the death of a loved one can be one of life s most difficult tasks, especially when
that loss involves a parent or a child. Author and abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe grieved over
death as both mother and child. When she was only five years old, her mother Roxana Foote
Beecher, died of tuberculosis. Later at age 38, she lost her infant son Charley to an outbreak of
cholera. Together these two traumatic events amplified her condemnation of slavery and ultimately
influenced the writing of one of America s most controversial novels, UncleTom s Cabin.

in Wagenknecht 21). Harriet also felt a powerful reverence for her mother: She was of a
temperament peculiarly restful and peace giving... Her union of spirit with God, unruffled and
unbroken even from early childhood seemed to impart to her an equilibrium and healthful placidity
that no earthly reverses ever disturbed (qtd. in Wagenknecht 23). Harriet also believed that her
mother s memory and example had more influence in molding her family, in deterring from evil and
exciting to good, than the living presence of many mothers (qtd. in Hedrick, Perfection ).
Those who read Uncle Tom s Cabin will find the death of Stowe s mother memorialized in the
death of Eva St. Clare. Stowe claimed that the pain she felt as a child from losing her own mother
helped her identify with the pain felt by African American children and mothers sold apart under
slavery. Stowe later revealed the intense connection she possessed for the character of little Eva.
She said that writing about Eva s death affected [her] so deeply that [she] could not write another
word for two weeks... (qtd. in Wagenknecht 165).
In 1832, Harriet s father moved the family to the frontier city of Cincinnati, where he became the
president of Lane Seminary. The school was well known for its progressive attitudes and before
long it evolved into a center for abolitionists. One of the free thinkers employed there was Calvin

him to enter the world carefree and to start a new life for himself. Free of the chains of Ferula?s

Life In London, England In The 1500 s
London, England The Late 1500s
The Elizabethan era, named for Queen Elizabeth who reigned from 1558 1603, was a very
relaxed time in England because no wars or conflicts were happening at the time (Davis 231).
Many people believe that all people lived wonderful lives in the Elizabethan era, yet most people
were poor and lived hard lives. Undeniably the span of life is shorter in the sixteenth century than it
will be in subsequent ages (Davis 162). Important parts of life in London during the Elizabethan era
were social classes, living conditions, recreation, education, and gender inequality.

Although there were no wars during the Elizabethan era, life was hard for most people. There
were four different social classes determined by how much money people had and what they did
for a living (Lace 42 46). There was trash in the streets and poor sanitation. Boys went to school
while girls stayed home and learned how to run the house from their mothers (Davis 91). People

Syphilis is a venereal disease that can be contacted and spread by means of sexual intercourse. An
infected pregnant mother can also pass the disease to the unborn child during pregnancy. The
disease is caused by a corkscrew shaped bacterium called a spirochete, Treponema pallidum. The
bacteria cause sores or ulcers to appear on the skin of the penis, vagina, and mouth. In some
occasions, the sore can appear in the rectum, on the tongue, lips, or breast.
During sexual intercourse, the bacteria is transferred from the sore of the person and enters the
moist membranes of the sexual partner s penis, vagina, mouth, or rectum. Once the bacteria enter
the body, it multiplies at a fast rate. The bacteria enter the lymph circulation, which carries the
bacteria to adjacent lymph glands, which swells as a response to the infection. During the first
stages of the disease, which is called primary syphilis and lasts for a few weeks, sores and ulcers
begin to develop, particularly in the genital area of the victim. Blood tests during this stage may
not reveal the disease yet, but the bacteria can be scraped from the sores. Eventually, the sores will
heal, and the victim may recover from the disease without any treatment.
The second stage of the disease is called the secondary syphilis, which begins about two to six
weeks after the sores have healed.

The Flaws In The Movie Kingdom Of Heaven

have to do with Balian himself. Next will be the weapons them self s and how they fire/are used
and outcomes of them. Last I will state many of the other false tings in the movie and back up
why they are false. In the movie there are many incorrect elements about Balian and surrounding
Balian. One of the larger issues I can see is that he is not from France. As Helena P. Schrader

Thematic Meaning in City Lights
In order for art to be successful, despite the category of its expression, one thing is necessary; a
connection between the piece and its audience that can transcend time and space. If a song, film,
poem, novel, play or painting possesses the ability to touch audiences of any era or culture, then it
is truly successful. Notable movements of artwork are associated with the time in which they were
produced. For example, rock and roll music is associated with the 1960s and the 1970s;
impressionist painting with the late 1800s; romantic poetry with the late 1700s to early 1800s; film
noir with the 1940s to 1950s. Although all of these movements can ... Show more content on

Chaplin further illustrates his thematic message through more involved situations than his initial
ones of simple comedic delivery. The millionaire jumps into the water believing that he is
committing suicide, but the noose is on the tramp so the tramp falls in instead. The tramp s
encounters with the flower girl leave her with the wrong impression of him; she believes he is a
rich man. During the boxing match, the tramp believes his coach is the flower girl. The tramp s
opponent in the match also punches the referee in the midst of the chaotic fight, mistaking him
for the tramp. The police and butler wrongly accuse the tramp of burglary, even though the
millionaire actually gave the tramp the money. The increased drama surrounding these situations
takes the delivery of the thematic message that things are not always what they seem to be the
next level. The final and most significant delivery of the meaning of Chaplin s film is given
during the last scene. The audience sees that the flower girl now has her own flower shop, thanks
to the kindness of the tramp. She is no longer blind, and now can truly see the world for what it is,
thanks to the operation that the tramp s generosity gave her. When she sees the tramp getting
bullied on the street, she is amused and feels bad for him so she tries to offer him some change.

The Intelligence Of The Cia Triad Network Security
Introduction
Over the last few years the amount of security breaches that have been reported have had one factor
that has been prevalent in majority of the attacks. That factor is the employee s and how they are
manipulated into giving the intruder/hacker exactly what they needed without realizing it. The use
of social engineering in data breaches and fraud has been steadily increasing over the years.
Confidentiality, integrity, and availability the three components of the CIA triad in network security
can all be compromised by the risk of social engineering.
Definition of Social Engineering
Social engineering also known as people hacking is the art of utilizing human behavior to breach
security without the victim even realizing that they have been manipulated. Social engineering can
be further broken down to three methodologies.
1.Phishing The sending of emails appearing to be from a reputable source with the goal of gaining
personal information from the victim(s)
2.Vishing This is the practice of getting information from the victim or attempting to Influence
actions by the use of a telephone.

Right from the very beginning this theme is identified by a young Nazneen No one spoke of
our mother s death... and I remembered her saying: If Allah wanted us to ask questions, he
would have made us men. Here Nazneen points out that her whole life s potential, her right to
freedom, to even ask questions was determined by the 50/50 chance at being born male or
female or as religion would say, determined by god. Right from her birth, it was decided how she
would live, where she would live, and who she would live with through arranged marriage. At
age 17 she would be married to a man twice her age and live out the rest of her life in Brick Lane,
London. During the first part of the film we are introduced to a Nazneen who has accepted her
fate. We must not run from our fate. What cannot be changed must be borne. The test of life is to
endure. However the rest of the film is about challenging that mindset. We are introduced to
Nazneen s polar opposite sister living a free life and Nazneen fantasizing about her own freedom.
But of course the most important choice of freedom is the introduction of Karim, a handsome
young man who visits Nazneen occasionally to collect clothing to sell and eventually having an

His name is Michael Grose, who has worked with children all his professional life and has
published four books about Birth Order and Parenting. The typical book about Birth Order is Why
first borns rule the world and last borns want to change it (2003), which answers the question why
the children in a family have the same gene, a similar socio economic environment and experience
similar parenting styles have fundamentally different personalities, interests and even different
careers .
In contrast with all first three key authors, Judith Rich Harris is a female writer, who does not
believe in Birth Order Affects on Personality. She is a psychologist who received a master s
degree in psychology from Harvard University and has done many researches about Children
Life, Personality and Perspective to back up her ideas. Why Are Birth Order Effects Dependent

The New England Convicts
Convicts were first bought to Australia in the year 1788 with the first fleet which was led by
Captain Arthur Phillips. In the first fleet, there were 11 ships with a total of 717 convicts
aboard. The ships were called, Alexander, Borrowdale, Charlotte, Fishburn, Friendship, Golden
Grove, Lady Penrhyn, Prince of Wales, Scarborough, HMS Sirius and HMS Supply. Out of these
11 ships, 6 of them were used to transport convicts. These 6 ships were, Alexander, Charlotte,
Friendship, Lady Penrhyn, Prince of Wales and the last one was Scarborough. The other 5 were
used to transport supplies. This voyage from England to Australia took over 252 days which would
be 8 months and 1 week. The first fleetset sail on the 13th of May in the year 1787 from England...

That was until 1783 when the American War of Independence ended. When America refused to
take in anymore convicts, the English were forced to take the prisoners somewhere else. Due to
prisons overcrowding, they were still thinking where to put all these convict. Their solution, was to
put them in old, rotting prison ship known as hulks. Hulks were normally old naval ships that
could not go out into sea and fight but they were still able to safely float on the water in the
harbour. Once all the hulks were full with convicts, they began shipping them out to Australia
because they thought that no one owns the land and was big enough to hold convicts for many
years. One other reason that they moved these criminals here was because their old system was
very cruel and it really disturbed the public. Their system was to chop the head off of the criminal.
Due to the finding of Australia, it gave the English a new opportunity, for both the expansion of the
empire and a place to keep the convicts. The bringing back of the ancient method of banishment,
reduced the population stress in the Western parts of Europe by the less horrific methods in the
newly identified territories. This idea of banishing the criminals was the replacement for the death
sentence. The death sentence was not fully removed, as it still existed for the people who
committed major crimes. There was amnesty of the death sentence for the people that committed
minor crimes.
What work did the convicts do on arrival to Australia?
The work a convict did, was dependent on who they worked for, what skills they had and where
they worked. Now we are going to look at how a convict s day went by. Rules

Differences Between North And South
The North and South emerged as two distinct reasons because they had various differences. These
differences included the geography/climate, the economy and transportation methods. The first
difference is about the North and the South is their geography, for instance the North s geography
has a better advantage because it is close to other resources like coal, iron from nearby
Pennsylvania. The second difference is that Norths economy uses a system called capitalism where
they put their capital into a business in hopes of making profit. The South s economy uses the same
system to make money. The third difference is the transportation method. The North s
transportation method is by using roads, turnpikes, river travel and steamboat. The South s... Show

In the North, their geography was that they had coal and iron from the state Pennsylvania which
helped them build factories, it helped the growth of towns and cities. They were built along
waterways to developed and take advantage of waterpower like New York, Boston, and Baltimore
so the cities can be the center of trade. As farmers in the north, they shipped more of their products
by water which helped their cities grow. In the South, their geography was all about slavery, cotton,
rice indigo and tobacco. Southerns said that Cotton is King because it was the only crop that fueled
the South s economy. After 1793, the cotton gin was invented which boosted the demand for cotton
and by 1860, the south was committed to planting and harvesting cotton.
Second, there are various differences in the economy of the North and South. In the South, the
economy prospered between 1820 to 1860. In 1850, to south produced fewer manufactured goods
than the state of Massachusetts. They were accounted for only a small percentage of the nation s
goods. In the North, people used free enterprise which people were free to sell, buy and produce
whatever they choose. The elements that boosted the north s economy was competition, profit,
private property, and economy

We Both Reach For The Gun Analysis
In 1975, Chicago became a Broadway hit due to the work of Bob Fosse, John Kander and Fred
Ebb. Ebb created the lyrics and also worked with Fosse to write the book, while Kander created
the music. Chicago portrays a theme that celebrity statuses corrupt judicial system. The idea of
celebrity criminals appears throughout the musical as the girls fight for attention in press in
order to help win their trial. Mamma Morton clearly says (33 minutes into the movie) Murder is
a form of entertainment here and the musical proves that statement true. The most dominant
example of celebrity criminals gaining the favor of the public eye is when Roxie makes up her
entire life story. Billy Flynn asks her questions about her past, like where she was born or where
her parents are, only to completely change her answers. The song We Both Reached for the Gun
showcases that Flynn acts more like a publicist than a lawyer. Roxie s entire life was made up and
told to the press so she could appeal innocent and make the public take sympathy on her.... Show

In the start of the musical, all of the attention in the media is on Velma Kelly because she was a
celebrity before she was arrested. The attention then shifts to Roxie and leaves Velma feeling
neglected by the press and Flynn. Velma tries to convince Roxie they need to do a show together,
with the motive that maybe more attention will shift back to her. As soon as there is a new murder
in the city the attention of the media shifts, yet again, and this time away from Roxie and Velma. In
pursuit of attention, Roxie faints and then starts the rumor that she is pregnant in hopes the court
could never kill a pregnant woman. Mamma Morton understands the idea that fame benefits the
girls on trial, so she takes bribes in order to help them get publicity. As a jail supervisor, she is a
representation of the corruption that

Summary Of The Short Story Caged
Silencing and isolating people has always been, andSilencing and isolating people has always
been, and still continues to be a way to conserve normalities in a society. It minimizes the fear that
an outsider may change the typical mindset and values a person is brought up to have within a
society. In the short storyCaged by an unknown author, the elders of the village imprisoned
Charity for breaking the rules of the village in hopes that the other women of the village could
learn from her mistakes and would not follow her footsteps. Charity s imprisonment failed to be
the example that the elder s were aiming towards. The elders believed that by isolating Charity in

With time, the women started to acknowledge Charity less and less to the point that she was merely
a woman behind a fence. They no longer considered the reasons of her being in that fence or the
punishments that came with Charity breaking the village rules.
For Constance, unlike the other women, it does not take her time to overlook the men s reasons
and lessons for segregating Charity. It was against the elder s rules for anyone to help Charity and
Charity was aware of that as well She knew her friend was risking grave punishment just by talking
to her (5). Not only did Constance overlook it from the beginning, but she also continued to secretly
provide necessities for Charity and accompany her at times.
The way that Charity is isolated in Caged symbolizes how females are silenced in the modern
world today so that their ideas do not overpower the standard way of life, often involving male
dominance. A lot of the time, it seems as if the isolating and silencing has been successful but
that is not the case for many circumstances. As women are silenced, it often leads to ignorance
from those that oppose feminism, as shown by both the men and the women in the short story.
From Constance, being someone who supports Charity, there is rebellion. This is shown in the
outside world as those are support feminism, where there is also rebellion. Ignorance and
rebellion are not a sign of success, but are in fact a sign of failure as it also disrupts social norms.

The Horror Of A Horror Movie And Me
A few months ago, I brought a horror film to life. The only difference between the main character
of a horror movie and me is, the main character can run. Looking at the real world through the
dream world seems impossible, but sleep paralysis can do that and so much more. The most
terrifying night of my life started as I was just falling asleep. I could feel my body giving in to
the night and my eyelids becoming heavy, however they maintained open against my will. To
maybe shake myself out of it, I tried to force myself to sit up; seeing how my legs did not
respond to my brains request, I attempted to try a simpler task, like moving my fingers. Nothing
was happening, not a muscle would budge. I wanted to yell for help but my mouth was glued
shut and my vocal chords had failed me. In less than a second I lost all control over my physical
self. For all I had known, I had become a vegetable for the rest of my life. My heart was sinking.
As if things were not already horrible enough, I began to feel an evil presence in my bedroom.
When I looked up, standing directly in front of me was a girl who was staring at me so
intensely, it was as if she was burning holes through me. I quickly recognized that she was no
one other than myself. Everything about her was like me, even the way her lips curved slightly
downward. Her posture and demeanor, however, made her look like she was demonized. Afraid
for my life, I asked her multiple times if she was being possessed by some supernatural

Overview Of Cras And Its Effect On Investment Portfolios
Introduction
CRAs are like a marking system that is designed to keep the interested/related parties informed
with relevant information. It helps investors to decide how risky it is to invest in certain security
or country. It gives indication to buyer of securitised debt how likely they are to be paid back.
Although investors collect their own set of information about borrowers and impose requirements,
they also rely on these ratings to determine the appropriate securities for their investment portfolios
because it is believed that CRAs crucial role is to provide gatekeepers to public security markets
and act as a neutral third parties providing independent, objective assessment of the creditworthiness

Credit rating methodology, process and techniques used by CRAs
Some CRAs uses analyst driven methodology, some uses model driven methodology and some
uses mixture of both. Appendix 3 shows how analyst driven methodology works where as model

provided to CRAs by the issuer. Firms create pool of assets and sells to investors who purchase
those pools of assets by using debt securities. Then they hire CRAs to rate those securities. CRAs
assign ratings to the specific financial instruments such as corporate bonds, MBS and CDOs
rather than issuer of these instruments. We can find a similarity on ratings assigned by these big
three agencies. The commonly used scales are letter grade such as AAA, AA, A, BBB and so on
with pluses and minuses as well. The triple A being highest ratings, followed by AA, then A and so

ratings below this level means securities have higher risk of default . It was assumed that securities

Factors of the Jewish Dispersion
The destination of the Jewish dispersion varied especially based on the occupations of the Jews.
The actual Diaspora really took place when thousands of Hebrew elites and craftsmen were
deported and dispersed to Babylon. This occurred to concentrate the various skills of the Jewish in
separate arenas and to use these individually skilled communities for the benefit of the Babylonians.
For example, as previously mentioned the most skilled and elite Jewswere dispersed to Babylon the
heart of the Babylonian empire. Thus, the better trained and more adept a Jew was, the more
opportunity the Jew had to serve for empire in higher ranks solely to meet the needs of the
empire and its rulers. This helped the empires exiling the Jews to prosper, but unfortunately
created rifts and gaps within the Hebrew community. This pattern of dispersion, which was
developed by the Babylonians and used by the Romans to scatter the Jews, allowed for these
dominant empires to prosper, however, limited the interaction within the Hebrew community and
resulted in the diminishing originality and novelty of the skilled Jews. Despite the use of the
uniform dispersion pattern based on the occupations of the Jews, the reason why Jews were
exiled and dispersed varied depending on the imposing empire of the time, which performed these
actions. The Hebrew Diaspora was caused by different factors depending on the group exiling the
Hebrews. In other words, the reason for dispersing the Hebrews depended on the

Federal Communications Commission vs. Fox Television...
In the case of the Federal Communications Commission vs. Fox Television Stations Inc., I will
discuss the background and the role of the FCC in the United States, the history of Fox Television
Stations Inc. and analyze the arguments of both sides. Based on those arguments I will answer the
question did the Supreme Court get it right on the decision of this case. The Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) was created when Congress passed the Communications Act
in 1934 which abolished the Federal Radio Commission and transferred jurisdiction of radio
licensing to the Federal Communications Commission. This also included the telecommunications
jurisdiction which was previously handled by the Interstate Commerce Commission. The... Show

After the Metromedia deal was made Murdoch purchased Davis s shares and News Corporation
assumed complete control of 20th Century Fox. Initially Fox Television Station was a semi
autonomous unit in which News Corporation owned over 99 percent of the equity, but only 24
percent of the voting power. The balance was held personally by Murdoch. During this particular
era the Federal Communications Commission regulations stated it prohibited foreign interests or
non American citizens from controlling more than 25 percent of an FCC licensed broadcast
station. Though News Corporation was still based in Australia Murdoch became a naturalized U.S.
citizen in 1985 and the transfer of majority voting to Murdoch was now sufficient (http:/
/www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Television_Stations). As of today, Rupert Murdoch is still the
chairman and controlling shareholder of News Corporation and believes that all forms of media
should not be free during this era of global media empires (http://topics.nytimes.com). The main
concern of this case was the adequacy of the Federal Communications Commission s explanation
of its decision that it sometimes forbids broadcasting of indecent expletives even when the
offensive words are not repeated and if the FCC has the power to punish the station for the
vulgarity (FCC v. Fox, 2009, p. 1). The broadcasting stationed believed this was violating the

Madison Cablevision Case Study
While public purpose challenges are still judged by the Madison Cablevision standard today, the
Supreme Court of North Carolina has refined the doctrine s scope. To start, the court in Maready v.
City of Winston Salem addressed whether a broadly constructed state statute allowing for local
economic development could meet the Madison Cablevision standard. Further clarifying the first
prong of the Madison Cablevision standard, the court in Maready held that whether an activity is
within the appropriate scope of governmental involvement and is reasonably related to communal
needs may be evaluated by determining how similar the activity is to others which this court has
held to be within the permissible realm of governmental action. Maready... Show more content on

State, the court further clarified the sound basic education standard constructed in Leandro. In
addressing a claim that the state had failed to provide the students of Hoke County with a sound
basic education, the court examined a series of allegations made by the school board. The state
claimed that their actions met the Leandro standard through its combination of inputs i.e.,
expenditures, programs, teachers, [and] administrators, which added up to be an aggregate that met
or exceeded this Court s definition of providing students with an opportunity for a sound basic
education. However, the court disagreed, holding that the existence of these inputs was not
sufficient to meet Leandro s requirement. Instead, the court required a higher standard, holding that
each classroom should be staffed with a competent, certified, well trained teacher, and requiring
that every school be led by a well trained[,] competent principal. This decision supplemented
Leandro to provide a fuller contextual understanding of what type of education the citizens of
North Carolina had a right to receive. These two holdings provide the standard by which education
is judged today.

  • 3. Dudley Randall s Fahrenheit 451 If no one bother to question and challenge the rules, everyone are bound to be suppressed by the those in power. Throughout history , there had been many dictators, those who took full control over other s lives. However, many leaders and supporters also fought to keep everyone s rights. The novel, Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, and Dudley Randall s poem The Ballad of Birmingham fully illustrate that it is appropriate to defy rules when people civil rights are violated. In the novel Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury told the story about a futuristic world where people totally conform and firemen actually go start fire instead of putting them out. A seventeen years old girl, Clarisse, have a talk with montag about whether he ever read any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story set place during the Civil Right movement in a black household of a little girl and her mother. The poem signal that African Americans are not gifted with their freedom when the girl asked her mother to join the Freedom March to make our country free (Randall). Getting their freedom taken away, many African Americanchildren march the street of Birmingham to regain their natural rights. Taking a stand to fight for one s right is the responsibilities of everyone. Another example is the mother s reason for refusing to let her daughter go march because of her fear of the danger behold there. The mother then direct her daughter to go to church instead (Randall). Ironically, the girl meet her fate at the place thought to be the most sacred place. This ironic situation revealed that ignoring the violation of the rules upon civil rights is as dangerous as challenging it. Rules need to be challenged when it disregards people s civil right. Bradbury s novel Fahrenheit 451 and Randall s poem The Ballad of Birmingham provide examples that explain the reason for a suitable situation to defy the rules. Montag, in Fahrenheit 451, is fighting for his right of intelligence. The little girl, in The Ballad of Birmingham, also suggest that she join the march to make her country free. • 4. Scott Michael Sander Under The Influence Under the influence: Paying the price of my father s booze is an essay that was written by the author Scott Russell Sanders. He expressed his grievous feeling towards his father s drinking habit and used both comparison and allegories to explain how serious his father s alcoholism was and the negative effects he had during his childhood. Sander described his father as a demon after he had a drink which shows the horror that can be caused if a familyhas an alcoholic father. For instance, in the passage, Sander says I use the past tense not because he ever quit drinking but because he quit living that implies how his father s alcoholism behavior ruined his life while he was in his childhood. Furthermore, there were a lot of disappointments going on in his family due to his father s serious alcoholism. This is well evident when Sander articulates that He became a stranger, as fearful to us as any graveyard lunatic, not quite frothing at the mouth but fierce enough, quick tempered, explosive; who would ease his pain? Not mother, who fussed and pleaded but could not budge him; not my brother and sister, who were only kids . This clearly reveals the disappointments they had towards their father s addiction in drinking.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sander himself becomes a workaholic for he can no more save himself through work than he could save his father. He uses the contradiction between him and his father to show the two totally different worlds that he lived in. For now, I could not feel how hard he tried to forget the pain of not saving his father from drinking addiction, but I could feel how he tried his utmost best to be a role model for his ... • 5. Sonnet 116 and Love Is Not All William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 and Edna St. Vincent Millay s Love Is Not All both attempt to define love, by telling what love is and what it is not. Shakespeare s sonnet praises love and speaks of love in its most ideal form, while Millay s poem begins by giving the impression that the speaker feels that loveis not all, but during the unfolding of the poem we find the ironic truth that love is all. Shakespeare, on the other hand, depicts love as perfect and necessary from the beginning to the end of his poem. Although these two authors have taken two completely different approaches, both have worked to show the importance of love and to define it. However, Shakespeare is most confident of his definition of love, while Millay seems... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are all things that we must have in order to survive, but even though love can give us none of these things, Millay then goes on to say that many men are dying because of a lack of love: Yet many a man is making friends with death / Even as I speak, for lack of love alone (8 9). It important to note that the buildup of what love cannot do is necessary for the dramatic declaration that we need love regardless of how useless it may seem. This is a cleaver ploy by Millay because although she has effectively shown how worthless love is on a physical level, she has also effectively shown how necessary love is on an emotional level. It is important to note that the first eight lines are a part of a single sentence. This is important because it means that if we remove the repeated poetic verse found within these lines, we discover that Millay is simply saying Love is not all... / Yet many a man is making friends with death / Even as I speak, for lack of love alone (1 8) . This is a justifiable conclusion because after the words Love is not all the author uses a colon, which means that the lines following are simply a definition for what she means by Love is not all (1) . When put in such simple terms, it s easy to see how this is almost indistinguishable from saying, Love is not all, but it would be better to be dead than not have it. The second half of the poem is very different from the beginning half because the lines that follow the first sentence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the current war dwindling down in Afghanistan, the Field Artillery s focus becomes more on training in a force on force style fight. Their focus is to utilize older conventional style war fighting tactics on new updated Artillery systems. The following quote from Major General Mark McDonald truly describes our current situation, We ve got most of the pieces in place to be able to train the digital system. What we have to do is get everybody really comfortable with it, train with it more often, so that s their go to system, (Mathis). The result will be to pull away from older manually computed firing data and to begin to rely solely on the newer updated digital systems, thus allowing for the safer, more accurate and timely fires that will be needed in future conflicts. What does this mean for enlisted members and officers alike? The introduction of these modernized systems will provide several opportunities for cross branch training and deployment, as well as opportunities for joint operations that have yet to be discovered. • 11. Piety In Confucianism In truth, filial piety, humaneness and reciprocity are three main ideas, which plays very important role in Confucianism. To begin with, Confucius is a famous philosopher who gave advices to the rulers and individuals on their behaviors. Worth to mention, Confucius s teachings were complied in the Analects after his death. Moreover, Filial Piety means respect for one s parents, and most people is familiar with that idea in Confucianism. From what I learnt in China, filial is the starting point of virtue. In addition, I think filial piety is necessary in a family, and the children should show the respect to their parents. • 12. Understanding The Birth Of The Renaissance Understanding the birth of The Renaissance is as simple as understanding that the quality of a straight razor shave is superior to that of a commercially stamped multi bladed razor. Looking retroactively at the years leading up to this rebirth one can note the beginning of reflection the Ancient World and the ins and outs of Roman culture. Influencing architecture, art, and social construction, a desire for the classics pulled Europe from the slumping years of the fading High Middle Ages. Actively bringing back Roman and Gothic elements of architecture including: Domes, support methods, and construction techniques were all features included in Renaissance architecture, however the learning and understanding of these classical techniques allowed the Renaissance man to further innovate. Master Goldsmith, Filippo Brunelleschi, was one of the key overseers of the crown jewel of these new innovations, a reimagined dome. Inspired by Gothic Architecture, Brunelleschi set out to remove the flying buttress that would normally support the dome externally. Removing these pivotal means of support required that new forms of support be found and implemented. Using the herring bone design often found ornamentally in Rome, weight could now be pushed down and outward effectively allocating pressure. Also borrowed from Gothic architecture was the use of chained support. Like the Amiens Cathedral multiple linked chains were used to act as a binding tool for increased stability. Additionally ... It was the eve of our wedding and Bella and I were lying in her narrow bed together, as was our habit. Though it was August, she was wrapped in her usual swaddling blanket, a protection against the chill of my skin. The bulky afghan did not prevent Bella s hands from wandering about, exploring the unclothed parts of my body. If she had her way, both of us would be even less clothed. Topic: Video Games Introduction When it comes to emerging adulthood, video games is controversial topic on whether it is beneficial, non beneficial, or possibly a mix of both. Emerging adulthood can be defined as the period of someone s life from the age of 18 25, in which they explore the possibilities of multiple life decisions. My early emerging adulthood years consisted of playing multiple video games, to be specific, massive multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPG or MMO for short). There are many different versions of MMO but they all share the characteristics of keeping up with multiple variables, swift decision making, and retaining a vast amount of information. These requirements had long lasting beneficial effects on my mental processes, decision making, memory, perception and awareness. On the other hand, it negatively affected my self esteem, physical fitness and connection with my family. This paper will ultimately examine the effects of video games on my late emerging adulthood years within the context of the four domains of human development, cognitive, social, emotional, and physiological. Cognitive Developmental Domain The beneficial effects of MMOs on my mental processes can be related to intelligence, or also referred to as the way in which we organize, process, and receive information. This means that bravery is having fear, but not letting it stop you from anything. In this essay I will be writing about three climbers who summited Everest with disabilities. Everest is the highest mountain in the world. It rises 29,035 feet or 5.5 miles in the air. When climbing, there are dangers of avalanches, ice, hidden cracks, storms, and crevasses. Erik Weihenmayer, Paul Hockey, and Tom Whittaker summited Everest with disabilities. Tom Whittaker summited Everest with an amputated leg. He attempted to climb it three times and he never gave up when he was unsuccessful. He didn t give into fear or anyone telling him he couldn t do it. On Thanksgiving in 1979, a car crash shattered both of his legs. His right foot and lower leg had to be amputated. He tried three times to summit Everest. On his third attempt he summited Everest in May, 1998. He says that climbing Everest is more of a challenge and more important to him since he is disabled. • 19. Feminism In The Yellow Wallpaper One feminist theory is that whenever woman hold power in society they are treated as the other . Women have always been seen as domestic or the care takers of the family; women stay home with the kids, tend to dinner and the cleaning. That being said whenever a woman, like Jane, tries to step out of the nurturing role, men tend to feel intimidated and was unsure how to react to such a thing happening (like when John and Jane s brother diagnose her to be mentally ill all because she desires to write). In the time of the story, Jane is seen as mentally ill because she desires to read and write while her husband who happens to be a physician of high standing says she tends to have slightly hysterical tendency(Page 1, paragraph 5). In The Yellow Wallpaper Gilman uses the yellow wallpaper to symbolize Jane, who represents the way women use to be treated as the lesser in society. In the time this story was written, back in 1899, men and women were not viewed as equals and this short story is a prime example. As the readers go through the story they can literally see the shifts in her sanity by her illness and the almost revolting yellow wallpaper, which represents all the women who in that time period were overlooked by the men in society. An infected pregnant mother can also pass the disease to the unborn child during pregnancy. The disease is caused by a corkscrew shaped bacterium called a spirochete, Treponema pallidum. The bacteria cause sores or ulcers to appear on the skin of the penis, vagina, and mouth. In some occasions, the sore can appear in the rectum, on the tongue, lips, or breast. During sexual intercourse, the bacteria is transferred from the sore of the person and enters the moist membranes of the sexual partner s penis, vagina, mouth, or rectum. However, no matter how good any movie is there is always flaws, this one is no different. The amount of flaws I am able to choose from is tremendous. I have categorized them into three main topics. First I will be talking about the false things that have to do with Balian himself. Next will be the weapons them self s and how they fire/are used and outcomes of them. Last I will state many of the other false tings in the movie and back up why they are false. In the movie there are many incorrect elements about Balian and surrounding Balian. One of the larger issues I can see is that he is not from France. As Helena P. Schrader says Balian was born in the crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem. The movie started out with a scene of Balian burying his dead wife. Several men ride by on horses and one says She was a suicide cut her head off... but she really never committed suicide. City Lights Natalie Dougherty ENGL 102 013 Dr. Leitch Feb. 18, 2009 Thematic Meaning in City Lights In order for art to be successful, despite the category of its expression, one thing is necessary; a connection between the piece and its audience that can transcend time and space. If a song, film, poem, novel, play or painting possesses the ability to touch audiences of any era or culture, then it is truly successful. Notable movements of artwork are associated with the time in which they were produced. For example, rock and roll music is associated with the 1960s and the 1970s; impressionist painting with the late 1800s; romantic poetry with the late 1700s to early 1800s; film noir with the 1940s to 1950s. The tramp s opponent in the match also punches the referee in the midst of the chaotic fight, mistaking him for the tramp. The police and butler wrongly accuse the tramp of burglary, even though the millionaire actually gave the tramp the money. The increased drama surrounding these situations takes the delivery of the thematic message that things are not always what they seem to be the next level. The final and most significant delivery of the meaning of Chaplin s film is given during the last scene. The audience sees that the flower girl now has her own flower shop, thanks to the kindness of the tramp. She is no longer blind, and now can truly see the world for what it is, thanks to the operation that the tramp s generosity gave her. When America refused to take in anymore convicts, the English were forced to take the prisoners somewhere else. Due to prisons overcrowding, they were still thinking where to put all these convict. Their solution, was to put them in old, rotting prison ship known as hulks. Hulks were normally old naval ships that could not go out into sea and fight but they were still able to safely float on the water in the harbour. Once all the hulks were full with convicts, they began shipping them out to Australia because they thought that no one owns the land and was big enough to hold convicts for many years. One other reason that they moved these criminals here was because their old system was very cruel and it really disturbed the public. Their system was to chop the head off of the criminal. Due to the finding of Australia, it gave the English a new opportunity, for both the expansion of the empire and a place to keep the convicts. The bringing back of the ancient method of banishment, reduced the population stress in the Western parts of Europe by the less horrific methods in the newly identified territories. This idea of banishing the criminals was the replacement for the death sentence. The death sentence was not fully removed, as it still existed for the people who committed major crimes. There was amnesty of the death sentence for the people that committed minor crimes. What work did the convicts do on arrival to Australia? • 51. Factors of the Jewish Dispersion The destination of the Jewish dispersion varied especially based on the occupations of the Jews. The actual Diaspora really took place when thousands of Hebrew elites and craftsmen were deported and dispersed to Babylon. This occurred to concentrate the various skills of the Jewish in separate arenas and to use these individually skilled communities for the benefit of the Babylonians. For example, as previously mentioned the most skilled and elite Jewswere dispersed to Babylon the heart of the Babylonian empire. Thus, the better trained and more adept a Jew was, the more opportunity the Jew had to serve for empire in higher ranks solely to meet the needs of the empire and its rulers. This helped the empires exiling the Jews to prosper, but unfortunately created rifts and gaps within the Hebrew community. This pattern of dispersion, which was developed by the Babylonians and used by the Romans to scatter the Jews, allowed for these dominant empires to prosper, however, limited the interaction within the Hebrew community and resulted in the diminishing originality and novelty of the skilled Jews. Despite the use of the uniform dispersion pattern based on the occupations of the Jews, the reason why Jews were exiled and dispersed varied depending on the imposing empire of the time, which performed these actions. The Hebrew Diaspora was caused by different factors depending on the group exiling the Hebrews. In other words, the reason for dispersing the Hebrews depended on the ... • 53. Federal Communications Commission vs. Fox Television... In the case of the Federal Communications Commission vs. Fox Television Stations Inc., I will discuss the background and the role of the FCC in the United States, the history of Fox Television Stations Inc. and analyze the arguments of both sides. Based on those arguments I will answer the question did the Supreme Court get it right on the decision of this case. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) was created when Congress passed the Communications Act in 1934 which abolished the Federal Radio Commission and transferred jurisdiction of radio licensing to the Federal Communications Commission. This also included the telecommunications jurisdiction which was previously handled by the Interstate Commerce Commission. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the Metromedia deal was made Murdoch purchased Davis s shares and News Corporation assumed complete control of 20th Century Fox. Initially Fox Television Station was a semi autonomous unit in which News Corporation owned over 99 percent of the equity, but only 24 percent of the voting power. The balance was held personally by Murdoch. During this particular era the Federal Communications Commission regulations stated it prohibited foreign interests or non American citizens from controlling more than 25 percent of an FCC licensed broadcast station. Though News Corporation was still based in Australia Murdoch became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1985 and the transfer of majority voting to Murdoch was now sufficient (http:/ /www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Television_Stations). As of today, Rupert Murdoch is still the chairman and controlling shareholder of News Corporation and believes that all forms of media should not be free during this era of global media empires (http://topics.nytimes.com). The main concern of this case was the adequacy of the Federal Communications Commission s explanation of its decision that it sometimes forbids broadcasting of indecent expletives even when the offensive words are not repeated and if the FCC has the power to punish the station for the vulgarity (FCC v. Fox, 2009, p. 1). The broadcasting stationed believed this was violating the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Madison Cablevision Case Study While public purpose challenges are still judged by the Madison Cablevision standard today, the Supreme Court of North Carolina has refined the doctrine s scope. To start, the court in Maready v. City of Winston Salem addressed whether a broadly constructed state statute allowing for local economic development could meet the Madison Cablevision standard. Further clarifying the first prong of the Madison Cablevision standard, the court in Maready held that whether an activity is within the appropriate scope of governmental involvement and is reasonably related to communal needs may be evaluated by determining how similar the activity is to others which this court has held to be within the permissible realm of governmental action. Maready... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... State, the court further clarified the sound basic education standard constructed in Leandro. In addressing a claim that the state had failed to provide the students of Hoke County with a sound basic education, the court examined a series of allegations made by the school board. The state claimed that their actions met the Leandro standard through its combination of inputs i.e., expenditures, programs, teachers, [and] administrators, which added up to be an aggregate that met or exceeded this Court s definition of providing students with an opportunity for a sound basic education. However, the court disagreed, holding that the existence of these inputs was not sufficient to meet Leandro s requirement. Instead, the court required a higher standard, holding that each classroom should be staffed with a competent, certified, well trained teacher, and requiring that every school be led by a well trained[,] competent principal. This decision supplemented Leandro to provide a fuller contextual understanding of what type of education the citizens of North Carolina had a right to receive. These two holdings provide the standard by which education is judged today. II. HART V. STATE In Hart, for the first time in North Carolina s history, private and parochial schools became constitutionally eligible recipients of public, taxpayer dollars under the public purpose provision. Section A of this Part sets forth the facts and procedural history of Hart, Section B discusses the majority opinion, and Section C outlines Justice Robin Hudson s dissent. An analysis of each respective argument s merits is reserved for Part III. A.Facts and Procedural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every time you want to start a business or maintain and upgrade it, you are using the SDLC.
