Death Of A Salesman, By Arthur Miller
Transference: Revealing True Thoughts While reading Death of a Salesman, many readers become
intrigued with the relationships of the Loman family. One relationship in particular is Willy and his
son, Biff s. In the play, Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, Willy Loman exemplifies the
psychological theory of transference onto his son, Biff, because he is unable to accept his own reality.
There is an underlying meaning to the behavior of these two characters. The topics of transference,
communication, and how a parent s infidelity affects their children show how this statement is proven
to be true. Arthur Miller s own life also contributes greatly to the father son relationship within this
literary work as well. Transference is a large part of this play: it is a transference of Willy s feelings of
himself onto Biff. As defined by Psychiatrist Mark Dombeck: Transference is a simple appearing idea
that has to do with the way people understand one another and form relationships with one another. As
its name suggests, it involves the idea of transferring something from one place to another. What is
being transferred in this case is an understanding of a person. Where it is being transferred to is onto
another person. When transference is occurring, basically what is happening is that we are trying to
understand someone (usually someone we don t know very well) by making an assumption that they
are similar to someone else, and will thus feel and behave in

Mind and Soul
In the reading by Richard Swinburne, he evaluates the mortality of the soul and its interaction with the
human body. His position is best described as attributing the soul to a light bulb, and the brain to a
functioning socket:
If the socket (brain) is damaged or the current turned off, the light (soul) will not shine. So, too, the
soul will function if it is plugged into a functioning brain. Destroy the brain [...] and the soul will
cease to function, remaining inert.
Given his position, Swinburne s idea on the role of the mind and the soul, as well as the mortality of
the soul are what I will be exploring. For Swinburne, the soul is essentially what our mind is. It is the
part of us that analyzes information, thinks on it, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now there is the mortality of the soul, given that Swinburne s definition of the soul is similar to my
definition of the mind I will focus on that. I believe the human mind passes form body to soul upon
death. But what happens after that I do not know. I feel that our minds on this new plane of existence
cannot be understood as they are on this plane. Therefore I cannot comment on the possibility that
they are mortal or immortal. There might be some inherent change in how our minds work once this
transition takes place that may alter its functionality so much that it is nothing like it used to be, and
thereby the original mind may be considered deceased. Or it may be that we go on transitioning from
state to state forever. Relating the mind to Swinburne s views, he discusses the soul in terms of the
laws of nature. In my opinion, I do not believe the above mentioned relationship follows the rules of
nature as we understand them. We cannot say with certainty what the rules of nature are when
discussing the soul, simply because the concept of it is such a complex one. Our minds are such
complex things that we do not fully understand. Overall I tend to disagree with Swinburne on his ideas
of the mortality of the soul and the relationship of the soul and body. In my belief, that we cannot
definitively say the mind is mortal or immortal because it exists differently than the rest of our body.

Understand Sensory Loss (Ss Mu 3.1)
1. Understand the factors that impact on an individual with sensory loss 1.1 Analyse how a range of
factors can impact on individuals with sensory loss Impact on communication Sensory losses can
affect on normal living in a variety of ways. These can be hidden disability which can ultimately result
in social isolation and frustration due to not being able to communicate efficiently. In case of hearing
loss, day to day activities such as hearing a doorbell, using the telephone, watching television or
taking part in conversations can build a sense of discomfort and inadequacy. On the other hand, those
who have vision impairment cannot distinguish faces during face to face talk, feel difficulty in

One of the positive effects is increased help and aid for support in form of education, guidelines and
material recourse. Rehabilitation centre for physical and psychological support of such individual also
have regenerative effects on individual with sensory loss. 1.3 Explore how a range of factors, societal
attitudes and beliefs impact on service provision Most prominent factor which hinders service
provision is discrimination. People tend to discriminate between different genders, races and
socioeconomic status. Sensory impaired people need some assistive devices such as Hearing aids,
glasses/lenses, guide dogs, etc Barriers to obtaining adequate amp; appropriate services, hearing aids,
pair of glasses, dentures, walking stick/frames and grabbers, in case of discrimination they deprived
from such devices which hinder them to live better life. There are certain services which play
important role in lives of such peoples such as physio therapy, speech therapy, psychotherapy and
rehabilitation services. If there is any break in service provision of such services then life of such
people is affected badly. There are some common gaps in communication between service provider
and service users which lead to knowledge deficit in such people. Due to knowledge deficit they are
unable to cope with current condition. There are specific point

Cons Of Transgenic Animals
The insertion of human genes into mammals is not only inducing conflict into nature s ecosystems, but
can result in a new intelligent, human like species that needs proper regulations and authority. The
study of transgenic, or chimeric animals has brought about some serious ethical issues. Many people
are only aware of the issues when it regards the human race. However, transgenics play much more of
a role than just to our society, but greater damage is done to nature s ecosystems. Many consequences
may be unleashed once a transgenic animal escapes back into the wild. The potential harms may
include the alteration of the ecologic balance regarding feed sources and predators...and the disruption
of reproduction patterns and their success, (Animal Biotechnology). The quick extinction and
endangerment of these animals can dwindle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As ground breaking as it sounds, Glenn states Further advances in the blending of nonhuman animal
and human DNA could result intentionally or not in chimeric entities possessing degrees of
intelligence or sentience never before seen in nonhuman animals...Could it be patented? (1). Due to
this progressing study, society is questioning whether or not if these animals become too human like,
whether they would need rights and regulations, since they will be technically human . Even if so, it is
uncertain whether these animals would follow these regulations. Humans are a very dangerous
species, destroying both themselves and other species. With the intelligent, nightmarish human brain,
chimeras have the power to dominate the human race. Mammals may disregard the rules, as humans
do as well, thus creating a newer dominating minority that can lead to catastrophe. This issue is
commonly overlooked, but it is indeed possible. Human DNA injections should be prohibited from
being inserted into animals, too many dangers lurk within nature and society s

Analysis Of The South By Carson Mccullers
The South has a history of deep rooted traditions, some more sinister than others. The deteriorating
antebellum era makes the perfect backdrop for gothic literature, which highlights grotesque characters
and themes of death, terror, and social isolation. Carson McCullers, born in Georgia, felt personally
connected to these themes. She was a young genius, and felt alone in her advanced ideas and mature
understanding of social issues. In a world full of labels and boxes, McCullers fit in no category
perfectly, and felt the pain of that isolation acutely. The one thing all people are united by is their
inability to feel united, and McCullers s novels strives to depict this dilemma of human existence.
McCullers turned to writing to express her suffering and offer solace to people like her in a world that
felt lonely and unfair. Carson McCullers uses her novels much like how some use a diary, and through
her characters she expresses her deepest fears and mental anguish. Throughout each one of her novels
is a prevailing theme of isolation from society, which manifests itself in different ways, but can always
be tied back to the inescapable loneliness of the author. McCullers and her characters felt abandoned
by God, the one thing that is supposed to be comforting and constant, and alone in their quest to
become part of something greater than themselves. People want to believe that human life has more
purpose than first meets the eye, but with no evidence to prove there is a

Argumentative Essay On Muscle Cars
Muscle Cars with Shaker Hoods
The Classic Muscle Car with a Shaker Hood
Owning a muscle car with a shaker hood isn t for everybody. Even fans of aggressive looking hood
scoops would sometimes rather see them as part of the sheet metal hood structure as opposed to a
giant sized and oddly shaped air cleaner.
However, for those wanting to see their engine come to life, while sitting in the driver seat, this option
will continue to be a popular one. Here we ll discuss some of the All American muscle cars that made
this option available. We ll also discuss a few problems associated with an air scoop connected to a
moving engine, protruding like a periscope through a large hole cut in the hood.
Background on the Shaker Hood
Although you probably already know where the name comes from, let s quickly give this part a
definition and discuss its origins. In 1969 the [Ford Mustang design team] was looking for a unique
hood scoop to use on their aggressive V8 engines. Customers in the muscle car market liked the idea
of a ram air set up to improve airflow on [the single four barrel carburetor] mounted on the Cobra and

Bud Light s Current Advertising Strategy
Bud Light s Current Advertising Strategy
Bud Light has always been known for its extensive marketing campaigns; however, these campaigns
come with a large price tag. Anheuser Busch spent nearly $250 million in 2013 to promote and
advertise the Bud Light brand, more than $100 million more than Miller Light, who had the second
highest advertising expenditures (Johnson 34).
Bud Light s most recent promotion has been targeted toward Millennials and has been dubbed

Finding a New Market
Identifying a new market can be a challenging task. However, when examining the preferred alcoholic
beverage of three major age groups, one in particular stands out. Of the three age groups, fifty and
older consumers are the age group with the smallest preference for beer. Figure 2 on the following
page compares the alcoholic beverage preference for three major age groups.
Figure 2: Alcoholic Beverage Preference by Age
Source: Jones.
As Figure 2 shows, both groups under the age of fifty are similar, possessing a strong preference for
beer followed by wine and liquor. However, fifty and older consumers preferences show an increased
interest in wine and a decrease in both beer and liquor. This shift suggests that many beer drinkers
move away from beer as they age and gravitate toward wine. There is significant market potential if
Bud Light can lure these fifty and older drinkers back to beer and away from wine.
Fifty and Older Consumers as a Target Market
Fifty and older consumers represent the market with the largest potential for growth. Currently
comprising close to 100 million people in the United States, their population is expected to grow

The Liberal And Realist Interpretations Of The Period...
Esau Quiroz
Essay #1 When one begins to examine the period of 1815 until 1914 one will find that there are
various interpretations of what transpired during this period. The two interpretations that will be
examined in this analysis are the liberal and realist s interpretations of this period. The Liberal
interpretation refers to this period as Pax Britannica. Liberals see this period as a time of peace and a
time in which Britain became the first liberal hegemonic power. The relist interpretation seeks to
demonstrate how this period was not entirely peaceful and demonstrate why they do not believe
Britain can be referred to as a hegemonic power. This analysis will seek to demonstrate three separate
notion the first being the similarities between Britain in the period between 1815 1914 and the modern
day US dominated international system. The second notion will be to demonstrate how the liberal
interpretation of this period is the most accurate, and to also demonstrate how the United States is the
modern day hegemon. The third notion will be to demonstrate that a hegemonic power does not need
to be the largest militarily.
Before one may enter an analysis of the liberal and realist interpretations of the periods between 1815
and 1914 one must define what a hegemon is. Hegemony is when the predominance of one nation
state over others is present. (FLS 8) In the eyes of liberals hegemonic powers are public goods as long
as the hegemonic nation state is a liberal

Relation Between Gender And Infants
Researchers have hypothesized that the hormone that makes an infant a male also organizes the brain
in a masculine way. Studies have shown when testosterone is blocked in the developing fetus then the
male child engages in less rough and tumble play. If the brain plays a part in masculinizing a male
infant then one can obviously see that gender assignment before the child decides their gender would
not be the best treatment option. Studies have shown that boys as young as thirteen months like to play
with so called boy toys such as trucks and girls prefer dolls. Social interaction also forms the infant s
gender, parents interact different with boys versus girls. For example parents tend to be more vocal
with girls. Infants born with congenital

Causes And Disadvantages Of Tooth Discoloration
A recent survey has found that 80% of Americans aged eighteen to forty nine want their teeth whiter
(Lisa Vernon Sparks 2010). According to the American Association of Orthodontists, they have found
that 90% of their patients request tooth whitening (Mouth Healthy 2013). Many claim a brighter smile
would help boost their self confidence and it is also a cost effective way to enhance teeth (Your Smile
Becomes You). Teeth whitening has become an easy way to instantly improve appearance or first
impression on someone. Numerous toothpaste companies claim their brand of toothpaste can whiten
teeth the best, but can they really? Top toothpaste brands include Colgate Optic Whitening Toothpaste,
3D Crest White Luxe Toothpaste, AP 24, Arm Hammer Advance White Toothpaste, Sensodyne
Pronamel Whitening Toothpaste, and many more. Overall AP 24 Toothpaste has the best whitening

What is the tooth discoloration? The main causes of tooth discoloration is antibiotics, genetics, certain
foods, and aging. There are two types of tooth discoloration. They consist of internal and external
tooth discoloration. Internal tooth discoloration is caused by changes in enamel of the dentin and
tooth. Main causes of internal tooth discoloration are exposure to high level fluoride, tetracycline, use
of antibiotics as a child, developmental disorders, tooth decay, trauma, root canal issues, and
restorations. External tooth discoloration is caused from the outside of the body,

The Many Faces of Culture Essay
Defining culture has been a debate among sociologists and anthropologists since the 19th century.
Culture is vital for the perseverance of a society and has its own identity that distinguishes it from
others. Culture is not rooted into a person from birth, but it is learned from wherever he or she is from.
It acts in a subconscious manner in that when a culture differs, one society may find another society to
be odd. Every society has a different culture where the people share a specific language, gesture,
belief, behavior, norms, sanctions and more. Language greatly influences how we see the world.
Languages shape the way we understand some aspects in life such as time, direction, space and even
causality. For example, while English ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Japan, it means money and in France it means zero or worthless. If you try to learn another culture,
it is important to learn the gestures of that culture as well or there may be misunderstandings and
embarrassments you may face.
Cultural values reflect the goals members of society are expected to endeavor for by adjusting to
social norms, which are social rules of behavior. Those who comply to the norms receive positive
sanctions (i.e. rewards like approval and recognition) while those who don t conform to the norms are
seen as impeding success of the cultural values and are punished with negative sanctions (i.e.
withholding or withdrawal of approval and recognition). For example, if you see a man holding a
stack of books heading towards the door, the norm would be to hold the door for him and by doing so
you will receive a positive sanction. However, if the door is too far away and don t bother to open to
the door for the man, you will receive a negative sanction. There are different kinds of norms;
folkways, mores, and laws. Folkways are norms that are not sternly enforced such as being courteous
to elders. Mores are rules of behavior that if debased, it would jeopardize the stability of a society
such as murdering a person. The distinction between mores and laws are that while laws are set up and
imposed by the state, mores are set up and imposed by the public response. There is a norm so
robustly embedded that even the

Positive Accounting Theory
Compare and contrast normative and positive accounting approaches:
Definition of PAT:
Watts and Zimmerman (1986) defined Pat as a theory that seeks to explain and predicts particular
phenomenon. It is concerned with explaining accounting practice. The three basic hypotheses as
outlined by Watts and Zimmerman (1978) underlying PAT are:
1. Bonus plan hypothesis:
The bonus plan hypothesis is that managers of firms with bonus plans are more likely to use
accounting methods that increase current period reported income. Such selection presumably increase
the present value of bonuses if the compensation committee of the board of directors does not adjust to
the method chosen
2. Debt/equity hypothesis:
The debt/equity hypothesis predicts that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
92). The main objective of normative accounting theories is to provide guidance to individuals to
enable them to select the most appropriate accounting policies for given circumstances (Deegan, 2003,
p. 90).
Therefore, the result of normative accounting research should provide prescription to inform others
about the optimal accounting approach to adopt and why this particular approach is considered
optimal.
Normative accounting research has resulted accounting theories that are relevant for the setting of
financial reporting standards (Mozes, 1992, p. 93). In this case, the FASB s (U.S Financial Accounting
Standard Board) call for normative research can be interpreted as a request for accounting researchers
to investigate whether the user specific and decision specific qualities that standard setters require are
present in the accounting data (Mozes, 1992, p. 93). A successful example of normative accounting
theories is conceptual framework for financial reporting published by FASB. It was started in 1978 by
SFAC (Statement of Financial Accounting Concept) No. 1: Objectives of Financial Reporting by
Business Enterprises.
Conceptual framework is defined by FASB as follow (FASB, 1980, p. i): Conceptual framework is a
coherent system of interrelated objectives and fundamentals that is expected to lead to consistent
standards and that prescribes the nature, function, and limits of financial accounting and reporting.
It is expected to serve the public interest by

Fallingwater was built in a Nature Reserve, which provides a basic pure natural environment. Rather
than have the waterfall in occupant s view, the designer of the house, Wright, placed the house right on
the top of the waterfall to make it a part of occupant s lives. The integration of the house with
waterfall is successful in creating harmony between nature and man. Fallingwater redefined the
relationship between man, nature, and architecture (Adelyn,2010).
We and feel the harmony with nature from many aspects. The breaking water could be heard

Exciting Little Moments That Aren t Anymore
Exciting Little Moments That Aren t Anymore There were so many fun games that I used to play as a
kid. Games like lava monster involved us jumping and running from one part of a playground to
another and making sure we didn t get caught by the lava monster. Tag and freeze tag got somewhat
dangerous because if we got cornered by the person who was it, we would try to make sure not to get
caught ― for example, jumping off of the play structures to run away. Four square, four corners,
waterfall and jump rope were all classic games that we played. Jump rope was a challenging game. We
would sing songs as we jumped rope like Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum , Ice Cream Soda , Miss Mary
Mack , or Cinderella and try to get the jumper to miss and even add different challenges to do while
you were jumping rope like in Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear :

University Budget Cut
In 2012 the funds for higher education had been cut by 7.6 percent, leaving most states in an education
crisis that could have a negative effect on our nation. With the cost of college steadily rising, many
students are left to rely on financial aid, which limits their ability to become a well rounded student
because they have to follow a strict class schedule that only goes towards their desired degree. Having
these restrictions doesn t allow them to take elective classes that they might enjoy outside of their
degree. Since colleges are receiving less money from the government each year, they are forced to
raise their cost of tuition to provide and maintain adequate learning environments to their students.
While financial aid does give students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This prevents the university from providing and maintaining valuable services that could further their
students education even more. Simple services such as tutoring, smaller classes, and updated
equipment have become a struggle for a lot of universities to provide. Universities have made changes
to compensate for the services that have been cut. Tenure plans haven t helped the universities budget
problem. A tenure plan is a plan when a professor is hired; they have about seven years to show they
will be a proficient professor for the university. The professors do this by conducting research and
publishing studies in their field. They are then brought before a committee to decide if he or she has
been approved for tenure. If a teacher is not approved at a university, that spot is then vacant until they
can find a new replacement. This process can take up to months to complete, which take valuable
teaching time away from student. There are very few options that a university can take to minimize the
damage of losing a member of their faculty. One option for a university is to hire an adjunct. An
adjunct is a teacher who is temporarily hired to fill the spot of the professor until they can find a new
replacement. Another option is to have other professors take turns filling in for the classes until they
find a replacement because they are unable to afford to hire a new professor at that time. In a recent
interview with Dr. Layne Heitz, assistant professor in Mathematics at Southeastern Oklahoma State
University, Dr. Heitz said that not having a specialized teacher is not a good situation for the students
or the university. Not having a professor who is qualified keeps students at a disadvantage and doesn t
allow them to get the full experience of the class. This, Dr. Heitz says, also makes students go to each

This essay will show the characteristics of virtue by examining characters from the film Gravity. The
virtue of ethics gives guidance as to what behaviors or traits a person would need in order to gain
Endaimona. This was the ancient Greek philosophers term for a good human life or happiness which
is not meant by mood or feeling, but by a rich and fulfilling life for the individual living it, explained
by Russell (2013). This essay will focus on defining moments throughout the film where a character
has shown virtue in the decisions they have made. Virtue ethics is based on the moral character of the
person, it is what a character feels is the right thing to do; it is not decisions based on a personal gain,
duty or consequence. An ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sadly, the photograph floats in the empty space above earth. Kant wrote: A good will is not good
because of what it effects or accomplishes it is good through its willing alone, Even were it to bring
about bad consequences, that would not lesson our moral esteem for a good will in itself (Paton as
cited in Darwell, 1998, p.148). His decision to become an engineer and wanting a career in outer space
came with dangerous consequences, as the film states from the beginning, Life in space is impossible .
This film highlights the bravery which is a characteristic of virtue. He will be called brave who is
fearless in face of a noble death and of all emergencies that involve death (Ross, 2001, pp. 975). Even
though it seems unfair to loose one s life for job and duty to country we are reminded of the virtuous
act he was prepared to do in the first place.
Courtesy of Kowalski s handy jetpack, the two begin their trek to their only hope for survival: an
escape pod at the International Space Station. As they float through space, Stone reveals she has no
one back home and has lost a 4 year old daughter to an accident. It now dawns to Kowalski why Stone
is so withdrawn preferring silence rather than human interaction. As they approach the Space station
they desperately try to grab onto something before flying off into the abyss, Kowalski is saved by
Stone who is tangled up by rope, suddenly

Acana Research Paper
According to an overview of Acana dog food reviews, Acana dog food is a top quality food for dogs
manufactured by Champion Pet Foods in Canada. This is the same company that makes Orijen dog
food, another top quality dog food which is often claimed to be one of the very best of all dog foods
by experts. Acana is similar in many ways to Orijen although, unlike Orijen, it usually has a somewhat
lower protein percentage, though still higher than most dog foods. Both brands contain lots of meat
ingredients.
Champion Pet Foods
Champion Pet Foods is located in Alberta, Canada. According to their web site they are family owned
and operated and have been making pet food for 25 years. Acana is sold in 45 countries and is
certified by the Canadian government to meet all international pet food ... Show more content on

Tonic herbs include chicory, burdock root, stinging nettle, milk thistle, sweet fennel and chamomile,
among others. As you might expect, Acana is higher in protein than most dog foods. It s not unusual
for their foods to be 65 percent protein. Acana dog foods are typically preservative free.
Negatives
With so much meat protein, Acana also costs more than most dog foods. A 15.4 pound bag of Acana
Ranchlands Grain Free dry dog food is $42.99 on one web site. Acana can also be hard to find in the
United States since it is a Canadian food.
Your local pet store may not carry it. It is definitely a boutique food. However, you can usually buy it
from the pet food delivery sites, as long as you are willing to pay the delivery charges. This will
further increase the cost of the food.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a great dog food that focuses on high meat protein and low carbs, then you
probably can t do much better than Acana. It has the very highest quality ingredients which are almost
all locally raised and the food is preservative free. This is an outstanding food but it is quite expensive
and can be hard to

Courageous Follower Report
After reading The Courageous Follower, I have determined that I have to be both a courageous
follower and leader on a daily basis. Throughout my career in the Navy, I have progressed through the
enlisted ranks to selection as a chief petty officer (E7) followed by commissioning as a chief warrant
officer. As a warrant officer, I belong to a community that also contains those serving as limited duty
officers. A limited duty officer out ranks a warrant officer however, a warrant officer must promote to
the enlisted rank of chief petty officer (E7) prior to promotion whereas a limited duty officer can
promote from the enlisted rank of first class petty officer (E6). Additional criteria for promotion to

to revisit the issue in a discussion with the principal assistant. I briefed him on that we re going to see
the department head and call a meeting with the, command and us to discuss this. His concerns were
the ramifications from the principal assistant I stated I will deal it. So I went to the department head s
office and requested a meeting with command to discuss. His first response was can we discuss it
before the principal assistant gets in the office my reply, Sir I would like all parties involved in the

Crimes And Misdemeanors Analysis
In the movie Crimes and Misdemeanors, written and directed by Woody Allen, human morality and
the possible existence of a God and the connection humans may have to this God are discussed. The
main plot has a few stories to follow, all with intersecting characters. The main character of the film if
Judah Rosenthal, and Judah is having an affair on his wife Miriam with a woman named Dolores for
about two years. Judah wants to end the affair, but Dolores is strongly against it and threatens to ruin
Judah s marriage by spilling the news to his wife if he doesn t continue to be with her, and later she
demands he leaves his family for her. Judah is an eye doctor, and one of his patients is a rabbi named

Levy is shown in some scenes through Cliff s movie. Prof. Levy basically explains that life is a great
thing, and it s naturally neutral, but humans inflict their feelings onto life, and humans can live life
through making their own decisions and trying to be happy. Prof. Levy says that life is good, morality
is man s creation, and that people should strive to be happy. However, despite these positive ideas, the
professor ends up killing himself, leaving a note saying I ve gone out the window . This is an
incredible moment in the movie, showing that no matter what outlook and ideology a person has on
life, sometimes it can be too much. Prof. Levy killed himself because he understood how simple life
was. You are born, you survive, you live, you die, and that s it. Humans are not simple, we are born
and we survive, yet we seek love and affection, we create bad and good, we create God, we accept
God, we accept morality, we betray morality, we are no longer happy, and then we die. Humans make
life difficult and complex, and I think Woody Allen uses the professor to show this. Prof. Levy knew
this, and so he ended his life because it was the only way to avoid the complexity humans created. His
suicide note is simple and straightforward; the way death is. No matter what a person s belief, no
matter how simple or complex life can be, death is always straightforward. This whole movie
discusses a few lives and the choices they

Compare And Contrast The American Empire And Ottoman Empire
Throughout history there has been times when empire building and expansion were very popular.
During the Early Modern Era, from 1450 1750, this occurred a lot. The European, Russian, Chinese,
Mughal and, Ottoman empires were all being built around the same time. An empire is a group of
states or countries under one supreme ruler. When the empire is divided by an ocean or has part of it
distant from the other, the part away from the mainland is known as a colony and the homeland is the
Mother Country. This took place many times during this time period when the Americas were first
discovered by people native to the Eastern Hemisphere. Between 1450 and 1750 AD, the European,
and the Russian, Chinese, Mughal and Ottoman empires were similar ... Show more content on

The European empires colonized the Americas, so they had to cross the Atlantic ocean to get there.
This gave them more goods to trade with because the Americas had different natural resources than
Europe and Asia. The empires without colonies had faster trade because there wasn t that great
distance but the new things they needed they got from the empires with colonies in the Americas. The
empires with the colonies in America had the advantage. The European Empires were also different
from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in that Europe hurt the unintentionally
natives of the land they took over while the other empires did not. Since Europe was building empires
in another continent, many things would be different. A major difference was the immune systems of
the people. The europeans had immunities to certain diseases such as bubonic plague, pneumonic
plague,, influenza, measles, scarlet fever, smallpox, and tuberculosis, because they had been exposed
to them before. Since the Native Americans were never exposed to them, they never built immunities.
When the Europeans came to the Americans they carried the diseases without knowing. Making
majority of the population sick. Tribe after tribe they died because they could not fight these diseases.
This clearly made more room for the Europeans but in a tragic way. Similarly, the European Empires
were different from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in their reasonings for
expansion. Europe expanded across the Atlantic Ocean because they were geographically at an
advantage. They had access to this new land the for the other places to get to it would either take too
long or they would physically have to go through the European s land to get there. They had this
advantage and took it

Hunting Should Be Allowed

Hunting Should Be Allowed Hunting is beneficial to our society and therefore should be allowed.
Historically human beings have been pursuing wild animals to provide their families with food,
clothing, and shelter. In modern times the need for hunting for survival has lessened because of the
development of animal husbandry and agriculture. There were times in history worldwide when
hunting became profitable and hunters began killing animals for their fur, skins, and meat. Then it
became necessary to put regulations in to effect to preserve wildlife as well as to somewhat appease
the critics who felt hunting should be illegal. Three main reasons why hunting should be allowed is to

The hunter will not only benefit by this knowledge within his hunt but also will know what animals to
pursue when hunting. Ill or deformed animals often give the hunter a sense of empathy when hunting.
These animals may not live very long and possibly spread its disease to the other animals. Sport
hunting should not be banned when examining information from this angle as it affects us all in
general. Hunting also provides excitement and a close connection with nature. While hunting, the
hunter often connects with nature while sitting in silence. He has the opportunity to observe his
surrounding and become familiar with his hunting ground. Knowing the plant life and growth rate of
the area crops is very important part to being a good hunter. This knowledge comes through
conservation of the land being managed for hunting. Through this land management, the plant and
animal life become more abundant. Hunting should be allowed and protesters should make the effort
to become more knowledge about the benefits of hunting. There are many environmental benefits to
society and to wildlife. The health of the animals is important to hunters as they reproduce and
replenish there will be ongoing game for hunting. Hunting is a privilege and privileges require
responsibility. Citizens must meet certain standards. The greatest threat to hunting in North America is
not anti hunters. It is the

The Native Americans
When the Europeans immigrated to North America they established the Indian Bureau in the War
Department due to the Indian Problem who main goal was to manage the Native Americans. Disease
was a huge epidemic it caused tremendous amounts of Native people to die due to no immunity to the
diseases. The federal government began the Indian Removal of the Native tribes. From that, the
federal government created the boarding schools where they were enculturated by religion, language,
physical features, clothing, and vocational education. The Dawes Act contributed to 90 million acres
of land loss to Native tribes. The 1982 Merian Report contributed to changing the school system. The
Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868 began with assimilating the Sioux nation into the European way of life
which effected their health and overall welfare. The Europeans used the education system to
assimilate them into their culture and language. Due to the assimilation it affected the Sioux people
through the NCLB act. In order to decolonize our people the education system needs respect and to
add our cultural side into the pedagogy. In order for Native students to be successful in school they
need to acknowledge how important it is to learn our culture in schools. The U.S. Indian office
supported the schools to be culturally sensitive and began educating teachers to teach in Native
schools. Alaska has experienced the assimilation through boarding schools. Stephen talks about his
experience as an educator and

  • 2. Death Of A Salesman, By Arthur Miller Transference: Revealing True Thoughts While reading Death of a Salesman, many readers become intrigued with the relationships of the Loman family. One relationship in particular is Willy and his son, Biff s. In the play, Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, Willy Loman exemplifies the psychological theory of transference onto his son, Biff, because he is unable to accept his own reality. There is an underlying meaning to the behavior of these two characters. The topics of transference, communication, and how a parent s infidelity affects their children show how this statement is proven to be true. Arthur Miller s own life also contributes greatly to the father son relationship within this literary work as well. Transference is a large part of this play: it is a transference of Willy s feelings of himself onto Biff. As defined by Psychiatrist Mark Dombeck: Transference is a simple appearing idea that has to do with the way people understand one another and form relationships with one another. As its name suggests, it involves the idea of transferring something from one place to another. What is being transferred in this case is an understanding of a person. Where it is being transferred to is onto another person. When transference is occurring, basically what is happening is that we are trying to understand someone (usually someone we don t know very well) by making an assumption that they are similar to someone else, and will thus feel and behave in ... • 3. Mind and Soul In the reading by Richard Swinburne, he evaluates the mortality of the soul and its interaction with the human body. His position is best described as attributing the soul to a light bulb, and the brain to a functioning socket: If the socket (brain) is damaged or the current turned off, the light (soul) will not shine. So, too, the soul will function if it is plugged into a functioning brain. Destroy the brain [...] and the soul will cease to function, remaining inert. Given his position, Swinburne s idea on the role of the mind and the soul, as well as the mortality of the soul are what I will be exploring. For Swinburne, the soul is essentially what our mind is. It is the part of us that analyzes information, thinks on it, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now there is the mortality of the soul, given that Swinburne s definition of the soul is similar to my definition of the mind I will focus on that. I believe the human mind passes form body to soul upon death. But what happens after that I do not know. I feel that our minds on this new plane of existence cannot be understood as they are on this plane. Therefore I cannot comment on the possibility that they are mortal or immortal. There might be some inherent change in how our minds work once this transition takes place that may alter its functionality so much that it is nothing like it used to be, and thereby the original mind may be considered deceased. Or it may be that we go on transitioning from state to state forever. Relating the mind to Swinburne s views, he discusses the soul in terms of the laws of nature. In my opinion, I do not believe the above mentioned relationship follows the rules of nature as we understand them. We cannot say with certainty what the rules of nature are when discussing the soul, simply because the concept of it is such a complex one. Our minds are such complex things that we do not fully understand. Overall I tend to disagree with Swinburne on his ideas of the mortality of the soul and the relationship of the soul and body. In my belief, that we cannot definitively say the mind is mortal or immortal because it exists differently than the rest of our body. We can examine our hand, cut ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Cons Of Transgenic Animals The insertion of human genes into mammals is not only inducing conflict into nature s ecosystems, but can result in a new intelligent, human like species that needs proper regulations and authority. The study of transgenic, or chimeric animals has brought about some serious ethical issues. Many people are only aware of the issues when it regards the human race. However, transgenics play much more of a role than just to our society, but greater damage is done to nature s ecosystems. Many consequences may be unleashed once a transgenic animal escapes back into the wild. The potential harms may include the alteration of the ecologic balance regarding feed sources and predators...and the disruption of reproduction patterns and their success, (Animal Biotechnology). Due to this progressing study, society is questioning whether or not if these animals become too human like, whether they would need rights and regulations, since they will be technically human . Even if so, it is uncertain whether these animals would follow these regulations. Humans are a very dangerous species, destroying both themselves and other species. With the intelligent, nightmarish human brain, chimeras have the power to dominate the human race. Mammals may disregard the rules, as humans do as well, thus creating a newer dominating minority that can lead to catastrophe. This issue is commonly overlooked, but it is indeed possible. • 6. Analysis Of The South By Carson Mccullers The South has a history of deep rooted traditions, some more sinister than others. The deteriorating antebellum era makes the perfect backdrop for gothic literature, which highlights grotesque characters and themes of death, terror, and social isolation. Carson McCullers, born in Georgia, felt personally connected to these themes. She was a young genius, and felt alone in her advanced ideas and mature understanding of social issues. In a world full of labels and boxes, McCullers fit in no category perfectly, and felt the pain of that isolation acutely. The one thing all people are united by is their inability to feel united, and McCullers s novels strives to depict this dilemma of human existence. McCullers turned to writing to express her suffering and offer solace to people like her in a world that felt lonely and unfair. Carson McCullers uses her novels much like how some use a diary, and through her characters she expresses her deepest fears and mental anguish. Throughout each one of her novels is a prevailing theme of isolation from society, which manifests itself in different ways, but can always be tied back to the inescapable loneliness of the author. McCullers and her characters felt abandoned by God, the one thing that is supposed to be comforting and constant, and alone in their quest to become part of something greater than themselves. • 7. Argumentative Essay On Muscle Cars Muscle Cars with Shaker Hoods The Classic Muscle Car with a Shaker Hood Owning a muscle car with a shaker hood isn t for everybody. Even fans of aggressive looking hood scoops would sometimes rather see them as part of the sheet metal hood structure as opposed to a giant sized and oddly shaped air cleaner. However, for those wanting to see their engine come to life, while sitting in the driver seat, this option will continue to be a popular one. Here we ll discuss some of the All American muscle cars that made this option available. We ll also discuss a few problems associated with an air scoop connected to a moving engine, protruding like a periscope through a large hole cut in the hood. Background on the Shaker Hood Although you probably already know where the name comes from, let s quickly give this part a definition and discuss its origins. In 1969 the [Ford Mustang design team] was looking for a unique hood scoop to use on their aggressive V8 engines. Customers in the muscle car market liked the idea of a ram air set up to improve airflow on [the single four barrel carburetor] mounted on the Cobra and [Boss V8 engines]. ... Finding a New Market Identifying a new market can be a challenging task. However, when examining the preferred alcoholic beverage of three major age groups, one in particular stands out. Of the three age groups, fifty and older consumers are the age group with the smallest preference for beer. Figure 2 on the following page compares the alcoholic beverage preference for three major age groups. Figure 2: Alcoholic Beverage Preference by Age Source: Jones. As Figure 2 shows, both groups under the age of fifty are similar, possessing a strong preference for beer followed by wine and liquor. However, fifty and older consumers preferences show an increased interest in wine and a decrease in both beer and liquor. This shift suggests that many beer drinkers move away from beer as they age and gravitate toward wine. There is significant market potential if Bud Light can lure these fifty and older drinkers back to beer and away from wine. Fifty and Older Consumers as a Target Market Fifty and older consumers represent the market with the largest potential for growth. Currently comprising close to 100 million people in the United States, their population is expected to grow

  • 10. The Liberal And Realist Interpretations Of The Period... Esau Quiroz Essay #1 When one begins to examine the period of 1815 until 1914 one will find that there are various interpretations of what transpired during this period. The two interpretations that will be examined in this analysis are the liberal and realist s interpretations of this period. The Liberal interpretation refers to this period as Pax Britannica. Liberals see this period as a time of peace and a time in which Britain became the first liberal hegemonic power. The relist interpretation seeks to demonstrate how this period was not entirely peaceful and demonstrate why they do not believe Britain can be referred to as a hegemonic power. This analysis will seek to demonstrate three separate notion the first being the similarities between Britain in the period between 1815 1914 and the modern day US dominated international system. The second notion will be to demonstrate how the liberal interpretation of this period is the most accurate, and to also demonstrate how the United States is the modern day hegemon. The third notion will be to demonstrate that a hegemonic power does not need to be the largest militarily. Before one may enter an analysis of the liberal and realist interpretations of the periods between 1815 and 1914 one must define what a hegemon is. Hegemony is when the predominance of one nation state over others is present. (FLS 8) In the eyes of liberals hegemonic powers are public goods as long as the hegemonic nation state is a liberal ... • 15. The Many Faces of Culture Essay Defining culture has been a debate among sociologists and anthropologists since the 19th century. Culture is vital for the perseverance of a society and has its own identity that distinguishes it from others. Culture is not rooted into a person from birth, but it is learned from wherever he or she is from. It acts in a subconscious manner in that when a culture differs, one society may find another society to be odd. Every society has a different culture where the people share a specific language, gesture, belief, behavior, norms, sanctions and more. Language greatly influences how we see the world. Languages shape the way we understand some aspects in life such as time, direction, space and even causality. For example, while English ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Japan, it means money and in France it means zero or worthless. If you try to learn another culture, it is important to learn the gestures of that culture as well or there may be misunderstandings and embarrassments you may face. Cultural values reflect the goals members of society are expected to endeavor for by adjusting to social norms, which are social rules of behavior. Those who comply to the norms receive positive sanctions (i.e. rewards like approval and recognition) while those who don t conform to the norms are seen as impeding success of the cultural values and are punished with negative sanctions (i.e. withholding or withdrawal of approval and recognition). For example, if you see a man holding a stack of books heading towards the door, the norm would be to hold the door for him and by doing so you will receive a positive sanction. However, if the door is too far away and don t bother to open to the door for the man, you will receive a negative sanction. There are different kinds of norms; folkways, mores, and laws. Folkways are norms that are not sternly enforced such as being courteous to elders. Mores are rules of behavior that if debased, it would jeopardize the stability of a society such as murdering a person. The distinction between mores and laws are that while laws are set up and imposed by the state, mores are set up and imposed by the public response. There is a norm so robustly embedded that even the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Positive Accounting Theory Compare and contrast normative and positive accounting approaches: Definition of PAT: Watts and Zimmerman (1986) defined Pat as a theory that seeks to explain and predicts particular phenomenon. It is concerned with explaining accounting practice. The three basic hypotheses as outlined by Watts and Zimmerman (1978) underlying PAT are: 1. Bonus plan hypothesis: The bonus plan hypothesis is that managers of firms with bonus plans are more likely to use accounting methods that increase current period reported income. The main objective of normative accounting theories is to provide guidance to individuals to enable them to select the most appropriate accounting policies for given circumstances (Deegan, 2003, p. 90). Therefore, the result of normative accounting research should provide prescription to inform others about the optimal accounting approach to adopt and why this particular approach is considered optimal. Normative accounting research has resulted accounting theories that are relevant for the setting of financial reporting standards (Mozes, 1992, p. 93). In this case, the FASB s (U.S Financial Accounting Standard Board) call for normative research can be interpreted as a request for accounting researchers to investigate whether the user specific and decision specific qualities that standard setters require are present in the accounting data (Mozes, 1992, p. 93). A successful example of normative accounting theories is conceptual framework for financial reporting published by FASB. It was started in 1978 by SFAC (Statement of Financial Accounting Concept) No. 1: Objectives of Financial Reporting by Business Enterprises. Conceptual framework is defined by FASB as follow (FASB, 1980, p. i): Conceptual framework is a coherent system of interrelated objectives and fundamentals that is expected to lead to consistent standards and that prescribes the nature, function, and limits of financial accounting and reporting. Rather than have the waterfall in occupant s view, the designer of the house, Wright, placed the house right on the top of the waterfall to make it a part of occupant s lives. The integration of the house with waterfall is successful in creating harmony between nature and man. Fallingwater redefined the relationship between man, nature, and architecture (Adelyn,2010). Games like lava monster involved us jumping and running from one part of a playground to another and making sure we didn t get caught by the lava monster. Tag and freeze tag got somewhat dangerous because if we got cornered by the person who was it, we would try to make sure not to get caught ― for example, jumping off of the play structures to run away. Four square, four corners, waterfall and jump rope were all classic games that we played. Jump rope was a challenging game. We would sing songs as we jumped rope like Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum , Ice Cream Soda , Miss Mary Mack , or Cinderella and try to get the jumper to miss and even add different challenges to do while you were jumping rope like in Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear : Teddy bear, teddy bear, Turn around. With the cost of college steadily rising, many students are left to rely on financial aid, which limits their ability to become a well rounded student because they have to follow a strict class schedule that only goes towards their desired degree. Having these restrictions doesn t allow them to take elective classes that they might enjoy outside of their degree. Since colleges are receiving less money from the government each year, they are forced to raise their cost of tuition to provide and maintain adequate learning environments to their students. While financial aid does give students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This prevents the university from providing and maintaining valuable services that could further their students education even more. Simple services such as tutoring, smaller classes, and updated equipment have become a struggle for a lot of universities to provide. Universities have made changes to compensate for the services that have been cut. Tenure plans haven t helped the universities budget problem. A tenure plan is a plan when a professor is hired; they have about seven years to show they will be a proficient professor for the university. The professors do this by conducting research and publishing studies in their field. They are then brought before a committee to decide if he or she has been approved for tenure. If a teacher is not approved at a university, that spot is then vacant until they can find a new replacement. This process can take up to months to complete, which take valuable teaching time away from student. There are very few options that a university can take to minimize the damage of losing a member of their faculty. One option for a university is to hire an adjunct. An adjunct is a teacher who is temporarily hired to fill the spot of the professor until they can find a new replacement. Another option is to have other professors take turns filling in for the classes until they find a replacement because they are unable to afford to hire a new professor at that time. In a recent interview with Dr. Layne Heitz, assistant professor in Mathematics at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Dr. Heitz said that not having a specialized teacher is not a good situation for the students or the university. Not having a professor who is qualified keeps students at a disadvantage and doesn t allow them to get the full experience of the class. Prof. Levy says that life is good, morality is man s creation, and that people should strive to be happy. However, despite these positive ideas, the professor ends up killing himself, leaving a note saying I ve gone out the window . This is an incredible moment in the movie, showing that no matter what outlook and ideology a person has on life, sometimes it can be too much. Prof. Levy killed himself because he understood how simple life was. You are born, you survive, you live, you die, and that s it. Humans are not simple, we are born and we survive, yet we seek love and affection, we create bad and good, we create God, we accept God, we accept morality, we betray morality, we are no longer happy, and then we die. Prof. Levy knew this, and so he ended his life because it was the only way to avoid the complexity humans created. His suicide note is simple and straightforward; the way death is. During the Early Modern Era, from 1450 1750, this occurred a lot. The European, Russian, Chinese, Mughal and, Ottoman empires were all being built around the same time. An empire is a group of states or countries under one supreme ruler. When the empire is divided by an ocean or has part of it distant from the other, the part away from the mainland is known as a colony and the homeland is the Mother Country. The empires with the colonies in America had the advantage. The European Empires were also different from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in that Europe hurt the unintentionally natives of the land they took over while the other empires did not. Since Europe was building empires in another continent, many things would be different. A major difference was the immune systems of the people. The europeans had immunities to certain diseases such as bubonic plague, pneumonic plague,, influenza, measles, scarlet fever, smallpox, and tuberculosis, because they had been exposed to them before. Since the Native Americans were never exposed to them, they never built immunities. When the Europeans came to the Americans they carried the diseases without knowing. Making majority of the population sick. Tribe after tribe they died because they could not fight these diseases. This clearly made more room for the Europeans but in a tragic way. Similarly, the European Empires were different from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in their reasonings for expansion. Historically human beings have been pursuing wild animals to provide their families with food, clothing, and shelter.
