Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. - 1. SPECIAL EFFECTS AND TRANSITIONS RESEARCH
- 2. FADE IN/OUT - SLOW PACE Christina Perri - A Thousand Years (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rtOvBOTyX00) In this instance a fade in/out transition is used to create a slower pace as the shot itself takes a few seconds to fully disappear into the next shot. This makes the viewer feel calmer and less agitated which links with the genre and general mood of the music. A repetitive use of this in my own production however could be effective in conveying both the male characters emotions in the present to the past event in which he is reliving.
- 3. FADE TO BLACK – FINALISE Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lp-EO5I60KA) The fade to black transition in this video is situated at the end of the video. This is one of its most common uses - to put an end to the narrative without being too abrupt. This particular shot fits in with the overall pace of the music video as it is quite relaxed and slow in both the music and editing. I may include a similar feature in order to end either the whole video or perhaps the end of the flashback to signal the character finally letting go of his memories.
- 4. JUMP CUT – FLASHBACKS Joey Graceffa – Dont wait (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcwo_mhyqTw) The jump cut used in this music video shows the change in the characters age. It helps to simultaneously move the story forward whilst also incorporating the characters past. I could use this technique in my own production to assist in the flashback sequences by making the move from past to present (and vice versa) smoother and easier for the viewer to notice.
- 5. BLUR – DETAIL Troye Sivan – Happy Little Pill (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEWHF3E9YJQ) The use of blurred images of the artist gives the impression of him not really being there. It may also help keep focus on him a the flickering effect lasts just long enough for the audience to notice while also highlighting the artist and the fact that he is the main focus of the scene.
