2. CLOSE UPS
The close ups that I have used are
conventional of pop/rock music
videos, in particular the first image
as often close ups are shown on
the lips of the singer or the guitar
being played. The close ups were
used to show facial expressions
and separate the body of the
female to build suspense and
tension around who she is and, in
the case of the top image, link
back to the genre. The separation
of features caused by the close
up allows the audience to focus
on the same thing as the band,
with the close ups almost acting
as a point of view shot.

3. EXTREME CLOSE UPS
The extreme close ups of the
instruments are very conventional in
pop/rock music videos as emphasis
on instrumentation is a very
important form of the genre. This also
transported the audience into the
rehearsal room, as if they too were
playing the instruments due to the
handheld action of the camera
down the neck of the guitar. The
extreme close ups of eyes and the
hair of the female actress help
narrative the tale by highlighting key
elements of the song, such as her lip
ring and multi- coloured hair. This
was a convention I added myself as
a device of making the story very
clear to my young audience.

4. WIDE SHOTS
The wide shots of the band
were conventional as in many
pop/rock music videos, wide
shots are used to show the
band playing as a unit so the
audience can see each band
member playing their role in the
band. I used wide shots also in
my narrative section to highlight
the environment that the action
was taking place in as well as
showing multiple characters in
one frame to allow the
audience to see the character
interactions which ultimately
build up the story

5. HIGH ANGLE
This is the best example of a
high angled shot used within
my music video. The shot acts
almost as a point of view shot
for the audience as well as
actors and highlights the
result of the character’s
foolishness. This different
angle gives a different
perspective to the audience,
and as we are looking down
on it, it suggests that we are
‘looking down’ and cringing
at the actions of the
characters.

6. TWO SHOT
This two- together shot was
used to show the
relationship between the
characters. These type of
shots are often used in
pop/rock music videos to
establish character
relationships, which in this
case is non existent as they
are more focused on the
female than their
friendship. I have therefore
been conventional by
including this shot to
establish a relationship
between characters.

7. PAN
I include a number of panning shots in
my music video as well as a very quick
tilt when introducing the female lead.
The pan here suggests that someone I
walking past this sign, as when the pan
stops, it is almost as if the person
walking has stopped in order to read
the sign. Generally my camera
movement is very limited because this
is conventional of pop/rock music
videos which tend to use a stationery
camera and utilise very quick editing
between each frame which is what
my music video also utilises.

8. EDITING
• As mentioned in the previous slide, my editing in the
video is very quick. After looking into inspirational
texts, I found this to be the conventional case
amongst a lot of pop/rock music videos as it adds
pace and energy to the videos.. Another
convention of pop/rock music. I therefore tried to
ensure that there were quick cuts between each
frame, especially once the song was in mid flow in
order to mirror the pacing of the song and thus
keeping the video energized and exciting to watch.
