1. I am textually analysing the music video of Arctic Monkeys - Brainstorm.
The clip opens on an extreme long shot of the band
from behind before they start to play. This establishes
the location of the band in a warehouse type setting
but as we are unable to see the band we don’t know
who they are. We assume it is the Arctic Monkeys as
this is a music video for their band but we not know
this for sure.
The band do not begin to play until four seconds in to
the video, where it cuts to a close up of the drums -
which is the first instrument to be played - and then
cuts back to the extreme long shot as the rest of band
joins in.

2. As the beat of the song kicks in the video begins to cut from
various shots of close ups and long shots of the band members
playing, a green screen with a pixelated pattern on it, long shots
of dancers in front of the screen and an unrelated black and
white picture.
This pattern of shots is repeated up to the first thirty seconds of
the music video.
The editing during this section is very fast, with no shot lasting
more than three sections meaning the audience does not get
the opportunity to focus on any of the shots as they change as
soon as they register. This was probably done to create a storm-
like effect of pictures in the mind of the audience.
The use of dancers and unrelated pictures within the video
suggests that there is no narrative involved with the song.

4. The shots of the band mainly focus on the performance shots
of lead singer and we see him the most throughout the video.
Although he is filmed the most he never filmed from the front
on and this suggests that the band wants their audience to
focus on their music rather than image, which is again
associated with the Alternative Rock genre.

5. The majority of shots used throughout the video are long
shots, close ups and extreme long shots which cut back and
forth from each other very quickly.
As the pace of the song increases so does the pace of the
editing, making the video very hectic for the audience to watch.
This matches the mood of the song and the name ‘Brainstorm’
suggesting that the mixture of fast editing and long shots cutting
to close ups has been done on purpose.

6. The song ends quite abruptly with the pace of song and the editing becoming increasing
fast so that no shot lasts more than one or two seconds.
The song then finishes with a lone drum beat which is how the song began and the video ends
