This document defines and discusses various types of social movements and mass media. It outlines four types of social movements: alternative movements which aim for limited individual change, redemptive movements which seek total individual change, transformative movements which aim for total social change, and reformative movements which emphasize changing society through moderate reforms. It also discusses mass communication, print and broadcast media, the purposes and negative characteristics of mass media, and defines propaganda as purposeful persuasion to influence attitudes for ideological purposes.
