Virtually every modern marketer has a presence in social channels, and many use social listening tools to monitor what people say about their brands. Yet despite being a maturing discipline, social analytics remains stubbornly difficult and frustrating to apply. How much is a Facebook fan worth? Does it matter that your "net sentiment" is in the single digits? Your "share of voice" on Twitter is down this week – should you panic? This presentation focuses on the social analytics vendors, techniques, metrics and cases that can help you most.
Social Marketing Analytics: A New Framework for Measuring Results in Social M...John Lovett
This collaborative research effort by Web Analytics Demystified and Altimeter Group represents the latest thinking on measuring social media.
The paper includes four social business objectives that can be used to understand the impact of your social marketing initiatives and aligns Key Performance Indicators to these objectives. The result is a solid framework that companies can adopt to begin measuring social marketing efforts.
Social media in the enterprise has predominantly been a haven for marketers, who use its power to engage target audiences along multiple points of the conversion funnel, while being able to track the eicacy of messages and content in a very precise way.

Social Media Monitoring - Finding RelationshipsEric Portelance
Early in 2011, our team began with the hypothesis that relationships with a brand can be found online and that finding these relationships would be critical to determining the value and ROI of social media investments to date.
With many in the industry moving to qualitative analysis of social media mentions (tagging by hand), we began to explore this as well at Thornley Fallis. But there was a problem. We were spending a lot of time and money tagging people's views of our client's products or offerings with no ability to measure and determine whether the brand had built more or less relationships of value.
We began to search for new tools. We quickly disregarded Klout, PeerIndex and other similar tools as means of finding relationships. These tools were better at aggregate or synthetic benchmarks of "influence," and our team was interested in finding relationships with a brand beyond the most "influential" web celebrities.
This deck outlines our approach and findings and how we were able to find what we are calling the consistently engaged. These people are showcasing their potential relationship with a brand, yet are often being ignored as a result of the tools and approaches currently available.
Emotions Affect Markets in Predictable Ways: Behavioral Finance and Sentiment...Cristian Bissattini
Financial markets are not purely rational. Emotions play a large part in stock pricing. H2O Sentiment Analysis captures these emotions, the “animal spirits” coined by Keynes, through social media post messages.
We employ a novel way to capture and quantify sentiment based on authors' credibility, namely tracking the accuracy of past recommendations. Our results provide evidence that there is strong and useful information on investor sentiment and likely stock market movements.
Our research (done in collaboration with the Università della Svizzera italiana) has demonstrated that we can use this information in order to make predictions about stock price changes and to implement trading strategies based on sentiment analysis that perform, on average, better than traditional investment strategies like Buy and Hold or Moving Averages.

Can Deep Learning solve the Sentiment Analysis ProblemMark Cieliebak
Sentiment analysis appears to be one of the easier tasks in the realm of text analytics: given a text like a tweet or product review, decide whether it contains positive or negative opinion. This task is almost trivial for humans, but it turns out to be a true challenge for automated systems. In fact, state-of-the-art sentiment analysis tools are wrong on approx. 4 out of 10 documents.
Current sentiment analysis tools are rule-based, feature-based, or combinations of both. However, recent research uses deep learning on very large sets of documents.
In this talk, we will explain the intrinsic difficulties of automated sentiment analysis; present existing solution approaches and their performance; describe an architecture for a deep learning system; and explore whether deep learning can improve sentiment analysis accuracy.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Editor's Notes
Listening platforms aggregate hoards of social media data but rely on customers to take action. For firms to move from passively collecting social media to acting on the data, they must instill a formalized process for managing incoming data, identifying insights, and escalating the insights into action. One agency we spoke to conducts listening strategies for many of its clients. It employs a team responsible for managing the data. Multiple employees monitor the everyday conversation and escalate important discussion to a team leader, who in turn writes summaries and directs campaign improvements for the client.
Keywords operate on OR function. i.e. Berio Olive Oil returns results that include Berio, Olive or Oil

In most of these tools these filters need to be set in the search setup. The search has to be rerun whenever the language/location is changed, which is time consuming
