 The Malaysian Smart School is a learning institution that has been
systematically reinvented in terms of teaching-learning practices and
school management in order to prepare students to cope and leverage
on the Information Age
 The teaching and learning environment comprises 4 components:
Curriculum, Pedagogy, Assessment and Teaching and learning
materials.
Issue and
Challenge
Lack of Facility
Negative
attitude of
teachers
Students lack of
knowledge
 Lack of technological infrastructure and teaching materials
 Especially in rural area
 The systems are not up to date
 Some of the newer courseware provided to the school cannot
be used on the older computer
 Sometimes there is not enough computers and not enough
courseware
 Lack of technical expertise to maintain the systems
 Cost of maintenance is too high
 Limited internet coverage
 It takes a long time just to open the
computer
 Some of teachers still not ready to change their
mindset,-they think using computer is waste their time
maybe because the processor takes longer time and
slow when they use the software in class.
 Difficult to adapt to new environments
 Prefer more traditional way to teach in the classroom
 Lack ICT knowledge and not comfortable with the use of
hardware and courseware.
 Lack exposure in using technology
 Lack proper guide to use
 It is a burden for teachers to implement
teaching using the technologies that
were provided to them.
• Students nowadays are passive
• Unknowledgeable and not well informed in technology and
ICT especially in rural area
 Lot of computers broke down because the students do not
know how to use it - ex: the students turn off the plug
without shut down the computers
• Loves to play games in computer rather than learning
 They secretly playing games when the teacher gives them an
ample time to do their homework via computers
• Some of the students prefer to learn in traditional way
 Feel that learning process using the whiteboard/blackboard is
more effective and easy.
 Replaced and upgraded the computer and provided better coordination
between the various agencies involved in the smart school
 Each school need to have a system integration engineer who has a
broad range of skills including software and hardware engineering and
interface protocols.
 Making lesson plans in advance, thinking through projects and owning
a personal calendar can help in this kind of situations.
 The teacher needs to be a careful mix of intensive training and
counselling to help teachers adapt to the new environment
 The teachers should implement their teaching with a lot of games as it
is equivalent to the 21st century education
 Students have become accustomed to new technologies and are always
eager to learn new skills and discover fun activities.
 CCTV need to be installed in the computer laboratory to ensure the
students do not play during learning process
