A simple slideshow meant to highlight some slide design ideals. I presented this to two audiences while employed by UCSB to assist others in their goal of presentation improvement.
Introduction to Slide Design: 7 Rules for Creating Effective SlidesAlex Rister
The 7 rules for creating effective slides include 1) slides are not documents; 2) picture superiority effect; 3) slides should be simple; 4) slides must have unity; 5) display data clearly; 6) use multimedia wisely; 7) don't forget your audience. A how-to-tutorial for everybody regarding the easieast tools to make your Power Point Slide Great Again!
Seriously, this compilation presents tools for beginners or even for the advanced users.
Give joy, not information only!
We make ineffective presentations for students, despite -- or because of -- our best intentions. But there is research about what actually works -- ways to present textual and visual information so students (and everyone) understand.
Some things never change. Some things always change. Wise marketers know the difference. This simple framework underlies this presentation - "20 Key Truths about Marketing and Technology." The full 90 minute training included research, stories, and examples to illustrate the 20 Key Truths. But these slides can help marketers understand how to ground their work in principles of human psychology and communication while keeping an eye on the trends, tastes and technology that shift with each new generation.

This lesson builds upon the concepts that were learned in the previous PowerPoint lesson. The topics covered include options for printing and saving your presentation, and an overview of animation techniques. The objective of the lesson is for the user to be comfortable with saving their PowerPoint presentation in various formats, printing handouts of their presentation, and using animation and timing techniques tot enhance their presentations. The lesson teaches concepts through a combination of image-based slides and video tutorials.
The Novus project is a combination of video tutorials designed to be used in conjunction with a free business simulation software program. The Novus Business and IT Program contains 36 business and IT training videos, covering basic finance, accounting, marketing, economics, business strategy, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Users will have an opportunity to apply the lessons in the Novus Business Simulator. Over six rounds, the user or teams will have to make decisions on capital purchases, financing, production, financing, and human resources for a microbrewery. This channel has arranged the 36 video lessons into the order in which they are meant to be used with the simulator. POLYMER NANOCOMPOSITE ARE THE FUTURE for packaging industriesPrajwal Ghadekar
Flexible packaging consumption’s rapid growth represents a $38 billion market in the global Community. As the demand in the industry continues to rise at an average of 3.5% each year, flexible materials need to meet and exceed the high expectations of consumers And the stressors of the supply chain. Increased competition between suppliers Along with government regulations translates into innovations in films that enhance product and Package performance as well as address worldwide concerns with packaging waste.
One such innovation is polymer nanocomposite technology which holds the key to future Advances in flexible packaging. According to Aaron Brody in a December, 2003 Food Technology article, “…Nano composites appear capable of approaching the elusive goal of converting plastic into a superbarrier—the equivalent of glass or metal—without upsetting regulators” (Brody, 2003). This paper will discuss how nanocomposites are made and the growth of nanocomposite materials as a function of their numerous advantages in the packaging industry today and in the future.

The 3 Percent Solution: Driving Profits Through Carbon ReductionsAaron Sobel
A new report from WWF and CDP—The 3% Solution: Driving Profits Through Carbon Reductions—helps U.S. businesses chart a new path forward. This path is tremendously profitable, practical and helps curb climate change.
This was a project for our environmental science class in the Bren School of Environmental Science. You miss a lot of the presentation online as the transitions really made this one slick. Try running it in Keynote.
Working with AECOM Environment, we address climate change mitigation at the community scale by providing recommendations for effective strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). We performed cost-benefit analyses on 20 GHG reduction strategies such as installing efficient appliances, taking public transit and installing solar panels. Combined with relevant geographic requirements, these analyses informed development of our software model and serve as the basis for tailored GHG reduction plans. Dubbed SAFEGUARD, our software prioritizes reduction strategies based on cost effectiveness.
SAFEGUARD addresses the political feasibility of implementing strategies by allowing the user to override the software’s economic prioritization. Accompanying the software is a user manual and detailed methods describing the processes used to build the model and determine the required inputs. We have created a useful tool for consultants and governments to determine optimal greenhouse gas reduction strategies at the community scale.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

When we create visuals that are intended to be read, offering the viewer enough contrast between the background (paper or screen) and the text is important. Text presentations ideally offer at least an 80% contrast between figure and ground. (Black text on a white background is ideal.) If there is not enough contrast between figure and ground, a viewer will squint to view the text, causing eye fatigue.

Yellow text on a white background or blue text on a black background, are difficult to read due to the low level of contrast between figure and ground.
An occurrence known as 'simultaneous contrast' may happen when opposing colors are placed in close proximity to each other. Text may appear to vibrate, or cast a shadow. Eye strain and fatigue will result if a viewer focuses on a document displaying similar properties for an extended time period.
Some color combinations, such as red text on a blue background, cause illusions when positioned together.
Sensitivity to Colorblind Deficiencies. The Design of visual documents or signage without thought to the overall contrast level between figure and ground can be problematic for people with sight deficiencies. Can not distinguish between RED and GREEN. If a visual document uses color to relate important information, insure that no information is lost, or potentially misunderstood, when the color is not available.
When choosing complementary colors, fully saturated colors will offer the highest level of contrast.
Choose good quality images that will not pixelate when you enlarge them.
