Slavery Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of slavery is an inherently challenging task. It demands not only a
deep understanding of historical contexts, socio-political dynamics, and human rights issues but
also requires sensitivity and empathy towards the subject matter.
Delving into the history of slavery involves confronting the grim realities of exploitation,
oppression, and systemic injustice endured by millions of individuals throughout centuries. It
necessitates grappling with uncomfortable truths about the darker aspects of humanity's past and
present.
Moreover, crafting an insightful and impactful essay on slavery requires meticulous research,
critical analysis, and effective communication of ideas. It involves exploring diverse perspectives,
examining primary sources, and engaging with scholarly debates to present a nuanced
understanding of the subject.
Furthermore, addressing the complexities of slavery entails navigating through ethical dilemmas,
cultural sensitivities, and contemporary implications. It involves recognizing the enduring
legacies of slavery and its profound influence on modern societies, institutions, and collective
consciousness.
In essence, writing an essay on slavery demands intellectual rigor, emotional intelligence, and a
commitment to truth-seeking and justice. It requires confronting uncomfortable truths,
amplifying marginalized voices, and advocating for meaningful change.

Analysis Of Alexander Pope s The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment is defined as a period, popularly confined to the eighteenth
century, wherein scientific knowledge and method proliferated under the belief that
all knowledge is achievable by man. Opening the gateway to modern philosophy, The
Enlightenment aimed to explore the nature of human existence, being dubbed as an
age of reason. Reason is defined as man s judgement that is, as Creighton explains,
held in mind by one who would be freed from the bondage of the emotions and must,
therefore, differentiate his own reason from the hinderance that is feeling ,
abandoning all sense of morality gained through religion and other environmental
aspects. Creighton suggests the excellence of reason is supposed to consist in its...

In Rasselas, however, Johnson highlights the brutality of man through the kidnapping
of Pekuah wherein she witnesses the immorality of slavery on her journey for
happiness, highlighting how the corruption of man lies beyond the safe haven of
Happy Valley. The valley itself is comparable to the Garden of Eden with its evils
extracted and excluded. However, the connotations of a valley present it as
claustrophobic and locked in, exacerbated by Rasselas initial futile attempts to
escape. This suggests that while corruption lies beyond the valley, Johnson implies
that the nature of man is to reach beyond our own limits regardless of current
position, supported by the Original Sin wherein Adam and Eve were cast out of the
garden in the pursuit of the tree of knowledge. Whilst the paradise of the Happy
Valley supplies all manners of pleasure Rasselas uses his reason to determine that
there must be more to his purpose, comparing the needs of man to that of animals
and how they waste their lives in tuning one unvaried series of sounds 3 and
concludes that man has surely some latent sense for which this place affords no
gratification. Rasselas therefore separates all he has been raised to believe in
order to explore his own purpose the very definition of reason. Pope can be seen to
do the same when describing the lamb [...] had he not reason, would he skip or play?
distinguishing the purpose of the primal animals from that of man. Pope s reason is

The Sun King also known as King Louis XIV ruled France from 1643 to 1715.
Over his rule he ushered in many new ideas and polices for his vision of France.
King Louis XIV Helped usher in the golden age of literature, ordered the Edict of
Fontainebleau, and engaged France in war. King Louis XIV helped usher in the
golden age of literature into France. He created institutions to help expand the fine
arts. This to me is a great thing to do solely based on the idea of the expansion of
knowledge. This would help and allow his people to expand their knowledge of the
world around them. Without Louis I believe that the golden age of literature may
have never happened. When King Louis XIV ordered the Edict of Fontainebleau he

An Effective Solution for an Ineffective Product
In recent years, homeopathy has grown to an immense $6.4 billion dollar industry
but not without frequent lawsuits. The French company Boiron paid out a twelve
million dollar settlement to consumers in California for selling a flu remedy with
such a low concentration of active ingredient, it would be physically impossible for
any to be present in the product. The active ingredient was duck liver, which Boiron
claimed contained a rare form of bacteria. To make matters even more odd, the
existence of this bacteria has been questioned and largely disproven. However, no
regulatory action has been taken to counter this issue. All lawsuits are the result of

Zone Of Proximal Development Paper
1) The Zone of Proximal Development. Please add two examples applying this
concept to schooling.
The Zone of Proximal Development is where the skill set taught to the child is
much higher than the child s skill set. It also refers to the ability of children to
master a task either on their own or with help. It describes the difficulty of a task
ranging from a kid who gets it right away to someone who could not master the task
without several weeks of assistance.
Vygotsky felt that the child s current sociocultural environment played a strong role in
how well they learned and language plays a strong role in shaping their thoughts. He
also felt that the teacher should guide the student and that other students should be
used as part of the teaching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Actually right now, I want to think aloud, but the fact that my husband is in the other
room, means I cannot. Because of that of that, I will edit and go over this tomorrow
when he is not here. I believe private speech is an important aspect of learning in all
stages of development. Try to watch yourself when you are trying to solve a difficult
problem and I beat you think aloud. It is not just for young children.
When you are writing a paper, reading the paper aloud is the best way to proofread
your paper. I also like thinking quietly since I can think faster than I can talk, so often
times I will do silent thinking.
3) Vygotsky and education. How important is education and what is the primary
school teacher s role?
Education is very important and the primary teacher s role plays a large part in
how well a child learns. She should be a guide to the students and not be a dictator.
Meaning she show them how to do things in a step by step process so they can
eventually perform these task on their own. Early education sets the stage for
learning in later years and is a very important aspect of child development.
4) Do you think Piaget s theory or Vygotsky s theory would be more helpful in
teaching? Explain and add several examples.
Both have theories that are helpful when teaching young children new

What kind of a platform business is the online personals market? What kind of
network effects (direct, cross sided, positive, and negative) does it leverage? How
structurally attractive is it? The online personals market is a specific niche of
social networking, and it is a sole sponsor, proprietary platform business. In terms
of network effects, it could be seen as a one sided network (users can instigate an
interaction, or can have someone else instigate an interaction with them), but is
better described as a two sided market with men on one side, and women on the
other (with the exception of homosexual sites which are clearly one sided markets).
Within this, there are both direct and cross sided network effects. For direct, there are

The Prevalence Of Low Blood Pressure
With the global population suffering from an unprecedented distortion of the
traditional age distribution, discussion and scientific inquiry surrounding the nature
and impacts of dementia among the aging and the elderly is becoming increasingly
prevalent within the public eye. One such story, conducted by the Erasmus Medical
Center and reported in a BBC News online report, examines the prevalence of
dementia in relation to preceding low blood pressure (Mundasad, 2016). The article,
as reflected in its concluding professional recommendations, aims to indicate low
blood pressure complications as a potential factor in developing dementia, thus
informing consumer healthcare decisions and contributing to an expanding body of
medical knowledge. In describing this study, BBC health reporter Smitha Mundasad
explains the nature of the original endeavor. Researchers from the Erasmus Medical
Center in the Netherlands posed a topic of inquiry indulging the research question of
whether frequent incidents of low blood pressure have any impact on one s
likelihood of contracting dementia over their lifetime (Mundasad, 2016). Their
suspected alternate hypothesis states that frequent low blood pressure incidents will
increase the occurrence of dementia within their sample participants. It is important
to note that this hypothesis is directional, as Mundasad mentions that previous
research has linked high blood pressure to various forms of dementia (2016). Thus,
researchers had grounds to

Slave Trade the Industrial Revolution
The Atlantic slave trade was a key driving force to the industrial revolution in Britain
Britain experienced a huge industrial development from 1750 onwards. This
development led to Britain being one of the wealthiest countries in the world. The
changes and development happened at the same period of time that the slave trade
was at its peak and Britain was one of the countries most heavily involved. Britain
also played the biggest role in the trade out of any other European country. Is this
merely coincidence or is there a connection between these two? Was the slave trade
causing Britain s growth in economy and industrial development? Seeing as the
ports, such as the ports in Bristol and Liverpool became wealthy, more jobs were
created, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Liverpool soon became the largest slave trading port in the Atlantic slave trade
system. From this, Liverpool gained a lot of money from taxes on imports and
exports which was hugely beneficial to the economy. The government gained about
5% of their income from the taxes paid on these ports which meant that the slave
trade was accumulating significant amounts if money. Many jobs were also created
by the trade as dockworkers, sailmakers, sailors and ship reporters were needed.
Because of the job increase, the economy grew because of taxes and there were
fewer unemployed people.
From all the money that was being accumulated from the slave trade, Britain was able
to finance a lot of new technology, such as the steam engine. This proves that the
slave trade was highly involved in the industrial revolution. Huge profits were being
made by investors, merchants and plantation owners and they were investing these
profits into banking, insurance and the development of industries which allowed
Britain to develop and advance in technology.
New machines and techniques also came with the revolution and it also had a
revolutionary effect on farming and manufacturing goods. New factories were
developed and the manufacture of cotton became very important and a lot of the
cotton being supplied by Britain was produced by slave labour.

Nominalism Essay
Nominalism The great revival of philosophical and theological study which the
thirteenth century witnessed was conditioned by the influence of Aristotle. The
theory of the universe propounded by the Stagirite had to be reconciled with the
traditional Platonic Augustinian realism. This Thomas Aquinas undertook to do,
following, Aristotle as closely as possible. Duns Scotus, on the other hand, attempted
to maintain the ancient realism, while supporting it by modern or Aristotelian
methods. Interests and tendencies, however, came up in his work which drove his
disciples away from his position. The growth of empirical research and psychological
analysis together with the new activity of the reason in the epistemological field on

In respect of the theory of cognition, where Duns Scotus had placed between the
perceiving subject and the object perceived a sensible species and an intelligible
species, Ockham considers these as superfluous machinery. Objects call forth sense
impressions in us, which are transmuted by the active intellect into mental images.
These images are thus a product of the intellect, not species which flow from the
object into the intellectus possibilis. The reality of these images is thus, in the
modern use of the terms, not objective but subjective. This is true not merely of the
terms of first intention formed directly from sense impression, but also of the terms
of second intention, i.e., the abstract terms which take note of common attributes, or
universals. These latter correspond to a tendency of the human mind, which can not
perceive individuals without at the same time attempting to form a general concept. A
white object simultaneously suggests abstract whiteness; an extended, related,
enduring object forces the conception of extension, relation, duration. The result of
this line of reasoning is the absolute subjectivity of all concepts and universals and
the limitation of knowledge to the mind and its concepts although these are real
entities because of their subjective existence in the mind, reproducing the actual
according to the constitution of the mind. Thus Ockham is really the pioneer of
modern epistemology. The

Music is a way for people to release and let go. It helps everyone not feel alone and
relate to a song or album. It is an art that represents people s emotions and ethics.
Bon iver is a band that uses these forms of pathos to get to the listener. Their albums

The Lost Letters Of Pergamum
The Roman Empire, in which the early Church rises in the wake of Jesus death,
resurrection and ascension, is complex cultural melting pot. Rife with hedonism, the
honor/shame structure of the Roman Empire encourage the worship of the Emperor
as God and the Empire as his Holy Empire. Against this narrative, the early Church
was a counterculture to the ways of the empire and it is against this backdrop that
Bruce Longenecker s The Lost Letters of Pergamum takes place. The Lost Letters of
Pergamum is a historical narrative following Antipas and encounters with Luke
through an associate in a neighboring town. Antipas, named after his relative Herod
Antipas, has come to great wealth and influence in the Roman empire. Antipas is

In Roman society, the food would be served based on position in society, but in the
Church, everyone was treated as an equal. Paul admonishes the church at Corinth for
such practices in the celebration of the Lord s Supper (1 Cor. 11:17 22). Paul
bemoans the division that are present in the fellowship among believers and points to
the counterculture equality that characterizes Christians. The Corinthians are
following the conventions of their societal practices, yet in Christ there is a unity
that overcomes the divisions of society. Upon first reading of this passage it seems
that the Corinthians should have known better than to allow this practice to take
place. However, with the cultural context this passage becomes less about intentional
discrimination on the part of the Corinthians and more about the church finding its
identity in the ways of Christ and not in the ways of the world. The cultural of the
Roman Empire was a melting pot of the religious and cultural influences of the
conquered societies that had been assimilated into the Empire. The various religions
and cultural practice created a complex pantheon of gods. Ever larger temples and
statues were erected to bring glory and honor to cities and give honor the Emperor.
Additionally, cities would host gladiatorial games to bring honor to the Emperor.
These events and building projects were facilitated by those who sought to bring
greater glory and honor upon themselves with Roman society.
The Significance Of A Rose In The War Of The Roses
Q: Who was in the war and why was it started?
A: The war of the roses was fought between the House of York and the House of
Lancaster. These two houses were royal family descending from the head family of
England. When king Henry the 6th suddenly fell ill to his first of many insanity
spells Richard from the House of Yorkbelieved that he had the right to temporarily
take over since he was the great grand son of king Edward the third. Except Queen
Margaret had already given birth to the kings first son, his name was Edward of
Lancaster. This made Richards claim to the throne a lot weaker since Edward was a
direct descendant of the current king. The york s eventually marched against Henry
and took him hostage Queen and his son to go into exile. The queen worked to
rescue her husband and restore her sons place as the rightful king of England (Wars
of the Roses British History).
2. Q: What is the significance of a rose in this war and why is it called war of the
roses?
A: The significance of a rose in this was was that it was one of many symbols used
by each house. Although this wasn t there only symbol the York s had a white
rose as one of there symbols. The Lancaster s adopted the red rose as a symbol in the
1480 s, this was more towards the end of the war so there s no real significance of
a rose in this war. The war was actually called the cousins war until the 19th century
when it was changed to the war of the roses (Andrews).

Emmett was murdered for allegedly flirting with Roy Bryant s one of the men s

Middle School Transition
The transition from elementary school to middle school can be a scary or inviting
time. It is a defining moment in education when we move from the environment of
elementary school to the new and different environment of middle school. A large
part of this transition is the difference in how the school day is structured and taught,
which in the end plays a key role in our learning. For our learner, adjusting to middle
school has brought some difficulties. These difficulties include being disorganized,
having poor time management, forgetfulness, not understanding his math class, and
some self confidence issues from not understanding math. While our learner is
typically attentive and focused in class, works well with others, and is also a
generally good student and athlete, his grades do suffer from the aforementioned
difficulties he is experiencing in school. Due to this, we took different approaches

many new and intimidating challenges for each learner. Most of the difficulties of
this change can be attributed to the changes in how classes are taught and structured

is new and different, greatly affecting how a student learns and adapts to learning. For
our learner, the shift to middle school was not a smooth transition. He has to deal

Speech On Outsiders
Would anyone legitimately want to be told they re an Outsider? Certainly not!
Therefore, you should never call someone out by telling them they re an Outsider.
Don t exclude peers that are different. No one wants to be an Outsider. Being an
Outsider can mean that you have a harsh life, may be excluded for no sterling
logic, in other words your peers are making you feel insecure. It explains that many
people stand out, furthermore, they re treated crudely by their peers. Outsiders
should be encouraged to do what they see finest, not mistreated the way they are
because they re one of a kind. Peers can hurt your feelings extremely by telling you
you re different. When the Greasers were called Greases by their peers( Someone

Spanish Armada Research Paper
The Spanish Armada was a fleet of armed ships that attempted to invade England in
the year of 1588. The Spanish Fleet consisted of over 130 ships and more than
29,000 men, most were soldiers. Many of the ships were low in weapons and
experienced soldiers that could work these weapons, others were low in ammunition.
King Phillip named the Duke of Medina Sidonia to command the Armada. During the
1500 s the Spanish were thought to have had a dominating Navy until in 1588, when
they were defeated by the English. The Spanish Armadafailed because, Spanish used
huge ships and large guns and English ships were faster with guns, plan required
meeting of ships and army communication was hard. Also, Phillip chose an
inexperienced leader for fleet.
Spanish used huge ships and large guns and the English ships were faster with
guns. (Spielvogel, Jackson). The Spanish lacked experienced gunners on their ships.
In the English fleet, on the other hand, roughly one man in ten was a gunnery

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (also referred to as DMD) is a type of muscular
dystrophy that weakens the muscles that we need to support our body, body
weight, to stand, and to move around. It also can cause you to have scoliosis. Some
of the main causes for DMD are genetic disorders, mutations, and DMD has to be
passed down throughout everyone in that family for generations. The symptoms
you can have if you have DMD are weak muscles, lack of strength, and difficulty
walking. DMD is a negative mutation because it affects your muscles horribly bad
that you can get a disability of walking and even moving. You need to tell your
doctor immediately if you experience any symptoms. If you don t tell your doctor,
you may find yourself in a very difficult situation where you can t get up or can t get

The Nuremberg War Criminal Trials
The Nuremberg War Criminal Trials
In the 1940 s, World War Two was drawing to a close, and Nazi Germany, while
fresh in the memories of many, was falling apart and was losing influence. The
problem was that many of the Nazi leaders were still out there, including Hermann
Goering, the man responsible for starting and constructing the first of his many
Concentration Camps. The case consisted of 13 separate trials for 22 leaders for the
Nazi party, and many of whom received the death penalty. The trials were a symbolic
representation of the death of Nazism, and the world uniting for a greater cause and
for justice.
The Nuremberg Trials all started when the Soviet Union, Great Britain, and the

the trials helped put to rest many of the suspicions of the people as everybody was
given a full and fair trial, and several of the men on trial only suffered minor prison
sentences and a few were even acquitted of the crimes they were accused of. So in
conclusion, the 13 trials that would later be infamously known as the Nuremberg
War Crime Trials charged dozens of Nazi criminals with deaths of innocent people,
and saw to it that Justice would prevail. The trials, signaling the end of the Nazi s
genocidal reign, helped unite the world and gave closure to those who suffered under

Chauuvet Cave Research Paper
In the year 1944, along the backs of the Ardeche River in Southern France, the
discovery of one of the most impressive collections of prehistoric art was found
within the Chauvet Caves. These magnificent pieces of artwork from the
Paleolithic era had been preserved within the chambers of a sealed off cave, whose
entrance had been covered by a land slide hundreds of years ago. Scientific
research has revealed that the paintings preserved in the cave date back to about
32,000 years ago. Thus, within the chambers of this cave resides a small piece of the
past, left untouched and hidden from man for hundreds of years. The significance of
the Chauvet Caves lies within the artwork depicted upon the walls of its chambers, as

The Egyptian Monarchy In Ancient Egypt
In the early years of Ancient Egypt there were two kingdoms that operated like two
different countries. Each had a ruler and their own religious beliefs and ways of
doing things.
The egyptian hierarchy was a lot like the pyramids that they built.
At the top there was the pharaoh and their gods then there was the viziers then the
high priest and noble then the officials and scribes then the craftsmen and finally
slaves, labourers, and peasants.
The pharaoh job was to make sure that all farmers paid taxes every year.
The viziers watch over tax collection, and monitored the government records that
were kept by the scribes.
They also held government jobs and the priests of the temples. The nobles became
wealthy as they kept a part of the tax

The Death Comes By Charles Wyville Thomson,
Commander Of...
Death comes easily. Death comes with diseases spread by people living in close
quarters. Death comes with a lack of nutrients from insufficient food. Death comes
with a misstep that leads to a plunge into rough, frigid ocean waters. These
statements are especially true on board a ship at sea during the time prior to the 20th
century. When people know that death is very likely in a certain situation but still
agree to participate in the situation anyway, they posses a characteristic known as
courage. Two examples of courageous men are Zheng Heand Charles Wyville
Thomson, commanders of very different ocean voyages, and both of these men led
their respective crew members towards death with the hopes of conquering or
exploring new lands. Zheng He, a worker for the emperor of the Ming Dynasty of
China, commanded a giant fleet including 27,000 Chinese soldiers and sailed as far
as the Arabian peninsula and the eastern coast of Africa in seven different voyages,
starting in 1405 (Dreyer 1). Charles Wyville Thomson, a scientist from Britain,
commanded a voyage aboard the HMS Challenger with less than 250 crew members
(Bishop). In his voyage, departing in December of 1872 and returning in May of
1876, Thomson traveled to Antarctica, the Caribbean, South Africa, Hawaii, and
South America (Dreyer xiii). Zheng He s and Charles Wyville Thomson s voyages
differed in terms of purpose, approach, and outcome as well as technological
advancements and human characteristic traits, but the
Taking a Look at Medical Transcription
What is Medical Transcription?
Medical Transcription, commonly known as MT, is a form of record keeping. It is an
allied health profession. Doctors/Physicians or other medical personnel dictate and
record medical reports about patients. These dictations generally discuss patients
current symptoms, their medical history, known allergies, diagnostic process and
suggested treatments.
A Medical Transcriptionist listens to these recorded medical dictations and types
these reports as per the instructions by the client using a computer and word
processing software and sent back with turn around time (TAT). Hence, Medical
Transcription is simply a process of converting voice recorded medical reports into
suitable text format.
Earlier, Medical Transcription was used to be done by using manual typewriters, but
with the advancement of technology, electric typewriters replaced manual typewriters
and further computers and word processing software changed the whole system.
Today, these medical reports are recorded in digital formats which allow efficient
data storage, ready retrieval and provide remote access to patients medical reports.
Many health care facilities out source their Medical Transcription work to
specialized agencies. Specific formats and reports types are used as per doctors or
specialty requirements while transcribing medical reports. Some companies provide
their own software, along with required training, to listen, type and submit medical
reports.

William Faulkner s The Bear
After the Civil War, the American Southerners had a strong trauma that could not be
forgotten. Considering that William Faulkner was also one of these Southerners,
approaching to his texts through a psychoanalytic lens would be a meaningful
work. In fact, Faulkner is one of the rare writers who faced Southern racial taboo :
the miscegenation. In addition, a Southern Renaissance that what Faulkner does
with the South through his novels are very similar with what Freud did with the
European civilization after the World War I in his work about psychoanalytic
mourning (Lee 229). Actually, Faulkner went through the World War I just like
Freud did and he is one of the Lost Generations : a group of writers who were
strongly affected by the inhumanity of war. Thus, this essay will focus on analyzing
Faulkner s The Bear in psychoanalytical view. In The Bear, the wildernessis one of
the significant motifs. Issac and Faulkner saw the wilderness as gigantic, chaotic,
and fearful. It gets over the cultural differentiation of human and separation, which
are characteristics of the Symbolic Order of Lacan s theories (Dobie 71). In other
words, the chaotic wilderness alludes to the Real Order, which remains foreclosed
form the analytic experience (Dobie 70 71). Moreover, the wilderness is considered
as primitive chaos and part of semiotic. Actually, a description of Isaac s first entrance
into the wilderness shows how the passage conveys somewhat sexual impression.

Gaza Strip Controversy
It was ten years ago that Gaza Strip residents were forced out of their homes. From
picturesque Gush Katif, from Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip and from four
small settlements in the northern West Bank. The ticket? Peace and renewed
international support for Israel.
The action was emotional and controversial. The residents claimed that they provided
an important defense buffer against attacks by Palestinians. The Jews living in Gaza
did not steal Palestinian land. The settlers of Gush Katif took sand dunes that were
never inhabited by the Arabs and with the sweat of their brow turned them into a
paradise and a financial powerhouse.

If the cultural perspective still plays the major role, different leaders in different
countries came into power after a regime change would propose different rules.
Nevertheless, phenomenon such as repression of opponents, political manipulation
and attempt to construct a new national identity have been shared among many
countries, such as China and Iran, after revolutions. Instead of trying to find similar
characters among leaders came into power during regime changes, scholars
explaining revolutions through a structural perspective think that the need of
eliminating opponents was created and people are carriers of structures. Since the
case study demands both structural and cultural theoretical explanation, the following
literature review would address the discourse of the definition of revolution, the rise
of the structural theory, and the call for more analysis of agents. Revolution cannot
be regarded as a universal concept; under different social contexts and in a different
time, both Structuralism and cultural studies need to be considered to generate more
substantive explanations. Structuralism rose when earlier theoretical explanations
could not set the definition of revolution and could not explain why revolutions
happened. Goldstone detailed the history of theoretical explanations (Goldstone). In
the 1920s and 1930s, scholars only studied successful revolutions and identified ten
common stages of the

Visitation Policy
Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) abides by a no contact policy
that prevents all citizens detained from being able to physically touch any visitors
they receive. This policy is even more restrictive than usual because all visitation
must be conducted through Plexiglas windows, using phones to communicate. The
Collaboration Council s Creating Healthy Bonds (CHB) program is focused on
building the relationships of families affected by incarceration. As it stands, the
facility s visitation policy operates conversely to best practices, making it both a
literal and figurative barrier to CHB meeting its goals. In short, MCCF needs a policy
change. Research Attachment theory research indicates that, many children affected

Each of these studies found that rates of recidivism decreased as family ties
strengthened through increased number and quality of visits and participation in
specifically designed programming. However, stressful and strict visitation policies
cause in person visitations to have negative effects. Such policies for child visits
include: visits behind Plexiglas, children being frisked, harsh treatment for
correctional officers, and no contact visits. One scholar argues that, the way the
prison imposes on families lives is a form of secondary prisonization, a weakened but
still compelling version of the elaborate regulations, concentrated surveillance, and
corporeal confinement governing the lives of ensnared felons. In summation,
restrictive visitation policies do not support the close contact that could reassure
children of parental availability, and thus can further damage parent child
attachments, making them even less secure. Finally, it is important to note that the
Social Services Administration, family courts, and foster children have their own
unique needs with regards to parental visitation. Historically, courts have typically
terminated the guardianship of an incarcerated parent for three main reasons: (1)
abandonment, (2) the nature of the felony conviction, and (3) the length of time in
foster care. However, many states have since
Figurative Language In The Chocolate War By Robert
Cormier
In the novel The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier, the characters are over
exaggerated, to state a clear point that this is not a normal story. The story does not
follow a regular story line, but one that Robert Cormier decides is fit in his mind and
he over exaggerates it aswell for an effect to state his point that, not every time you
disturb the universe something good comes out.
Robert Cormier wanted the characters be different, he did not make them how
others wanted, being socially acceptable, he wrote the book how he thought it
should have went in his mind, and doing so he gave the readers some new to read
not just the everyday novel. Cormier gives the reader many examples of figurative
language to express the real meaning of the story for example, Caroni watched the
chalk in Brother Leon s hands, the way the teacher pressed it, rolled it, his fingers
like the legs of spiders with a victim in their clutch. (90) In this quote Cormier gives
a similar to exaggerate about how Brother Leon was holding the chalk in his
hands. It sends a powerful message to the reader that Brother Leon is a horrible
man, who had no mercy and he is seen by others as a powerful administrator in the
school using quid pro quo in his own evil type of way. Cormier also uses more
figurative language to give a specific emotion that Cormier was trying to express
throughout his novel, that not every time someone disturbs the universe something
good comes out of it. What happened with Renault was bad enough, but there was
violence in the air. (209) This quote is the the example that even though Renault
did disturb the universe and did try to stop the chocolate sale, he failed and
something bad happened to him for trying. In the end Jerry s attempts to stop the
chocolate sales failed, and still there was still violence in the air meaning the enemy
he tried to defeat was angry, but still undefeated. And many readers dislike Cormiers
way to end the book in a way that the hero does not defeat the villain(s). Like
Richard Peck said The young will understand the outcome. They won t like it but they
ll understand. (10) And this is exactly what Cormier had in mind when he was writing
the book, that the readers wouldn t like the ending, but
Evaluate The Milgram Experiment
In 1984, after the trial of World War 2 criminal Adolph Eichmann, Stanley Milgram
created an experiment where his starting hypothesis was to see if Germans had a
character flaw which made them more obedient which correlated to the holocaust.
He put an advertisement in the newspaper for volunteers for an educational
experiment who would be paid on hour for $4.50. The experiment itself wasn t real,
but the participants didn t know that it going in. The experiment was once they got
into the laboratory , they picked from a hat and one would get teacher and the other
learner but it is rigged so the participants will always get teacher . Jack William who
is the experimenter takes the learner into a room to strap them into the shock machine

Another thing is once he was caught, others confessed to get a less intense charge.

two sides and then let a final judgement decide their fate. This religion became much
more spiritual than the Greek s religion and through the years, the Persian religion
survived as well as the language and the
Specific Features Of Windows 8.1
Specific featuresOn windows 8.1 we can customize our backgrounds and colour of
text. We can also have more than one app showing on the monitor. This makes It
easier to switch to different applications.
Microsoft have their own security package called Microsoft essentials as well as
windows defender. Microsoft essentials can scan your computer for potential
malicious malware by either running a quick scan or full scan. You can also
schedule a scan for example if you go on a lot of different sites to find information
some could be infected with bugs. By having a scheduled scan you could set a scan
every day, week or month. This then reduces the risk of any harm to your computer.
This therefore makes it a reliable and secure OS.

Depending on what type of Apple product you have you may only be allowed to
update to iOS 7.1 because it s an old product e.g. iPhone 4. On MAC OS X we can
customize the theme, background colours and where our icons go. Features on Mac
OS X include. Multi touch gestures. An example would be the pinching action we
use to zoom in and out. This could be useful for people who are visually impaired.
One of the best features I personally think is being able to see what applications are
running on your computer. You can close the ones you don t want to use therefor
saving battery and making your computer run faster.
Mac OS X has a built in security system which will scan you system for bugs or
malware. It will automatically update security software. They have Gatemaker which
makes it safer to download apps without installing malicious software. We also have
privacy controls this can protect our location, blocking cookies and limiting website
access. This all helps us to keep our data private and not shared with potential hackers.
Mac OS X seems a very safe OS to use as long as you update it regularly and look out
for any issues.
Associated utilitiesUtilities we have available on windows 8.1 are Bing tool bar.
This allows us to do quick searches on the web. It also has Windows phone app for
desktop which allows anyone with a windows phone to sync there music and photos
to the computer. This could be useful for backing up data.On iPhone products we

Ipl Business Model
IPL
The Indian Premier League is a T20 cricket competition promoted by the BCCI and
is modelled on the same lines as football s EPL or basketball s NBA. It works on
franchise system wherein the teams (presently 8; going up to 10 from the next
season) representing different cities are auctioned and the highest bidder is awarded
the rights to own and run the team for ten years.
Over a span of just three years, it has become a business phenomenon, even
overshadowing what it stands for, that is cricket, involving leading business groups,
bollywood stars and the entire nation alike.
IPL as a business model has following major stakeholders:

Apart from the monetary benefit, the franchises may also utilize this platform for
brand building and promoting their other business interests.
Franchises outflow: The major expense for any franchise is the bid amount paid
upfront for securing the rights of owning and running a team, which is for a period of
10 years. Apart from that another expense the franchises entail is on account of
running and maintaining the teams.
Apart from the above mentioned, a franchise may earn or lose some money during
the buying or selling of players among franchises.
Sponsors inflow: No direct revenue generated through IPL.
Sponsors outflow: Sponsors have a lot as stake as top of the line slots can go for up
to $17k per spot.
Players inflow: The players major source of revenue is the participation fee. Apart
from that players can also earn prize money and bonuses.
Players outflow: No direct expense on account of IPL. However, participating in
IPL does tax the players in the way of making their already packed calendars all the
more hectic.
Spectators inflow: No revenue through IPL. A handful of them may take away prizes
through various competitions such as Karbon Kamaal catch etc.
Spectators outflow: The major expense incurred by spectators on account of IPL is
on entry tickets.

Causes And Effects Of Islamic Terrorism
Terrorism has been an evident problem in the throughout the world and in the U.S.
and has been a point of strife and grief amongst the affected families and the
community. It affects the Nation and the citizens within. The same goes for the
Islamic and Muslim countries as well. These countries often feeling stronger
repercussions because of a larger amount of terrorist activity within the countries
themselves. This giving rise to problems such as economic depression and political
controversy among the countries within themselves. As a result of this it causes
immigration into countries more developed and not war torn such as the United
States and countries within the United Kingdom. Terrorism in the United States
has been going on for many years, dating back to the first assassination, President
Abraham Lincoln, in 1865, and has continued to as as late as last week. So for
more a hundred and fifty years we have been dealing with terroristic acts. These
acts affects all the countries citizens not just the victims. For example after 9/11
nearly 200,000 americans lost their jobs and about 40,000 in aerospace careers lost
their jobs. These effects are long lasting depending on the severity. The effects of
Radical Islamic terrorism do not just affect the american citizens, but also the
Muslim and non radicalized Islams trying to legally enter the country and those of
them that are already citizens, and creates prejudice against middle eastern people all
over the world because of
Autonomic Tachycardia Syndrome Essay
Autonomic Nervous System Disorder: Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome
When something goes wrong with the autonomic nervous system, it can cause
serious problems. Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is an
abnormality of the autonomic nervous system, commonly defined as an inability to
regulate the heart rate (Rowe 6). Patients with POTS will experience symptoms that
can limit daily activity and function (Agarwal et al. 478). Although treatment can be
challenging, patients with POTS that take an active role in the diagnosis and
management of their care can improve their quality of life.
To understand POTS it is important to understand the role and function of the
autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system involves ... Show more

In a healthy individual, blood vessels contract, heart rates increase and blood pressure
adjusts with little effort (Langford 23). In patients with POTS, the body does not
have the ability to make appropriate adjustments. POTS patients require three times
more energy to stand than a healthy person (Grubb 2). Although an abnormal heart
rate upon standing is common in patients with POTS, they will also experience other
symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, dizziness, heart palpitations, nausea,
diminished concentration, fainting, coldness or pain in the extremities, chest pain
and shortness of breath ( POTS ).
Patients with POTS will not feel better unless they are active, but they do not have
the energy to be active ( POTS ). In patients surveyed, 97.2% showed fatigue as a
major concern, followed by dizziness, brain fog, and heart palpitations ( POTS ). A
quiet activity, such as sitting at a desk, or a small amount of physical activity can
cause fatigue that can last twenty four to seventy two hours (Rowe 3). Research has
shown that almost half of POTS patients will experience at least one episode of
fainting which is why it is sometimes nicknamed the fainting disease
Why Is Rameck Important
Rameck could have died. If certain events hadn t transpired, if certain people hadn
t been met, Rameck could have been killed on the streets earlier in his life.
Befriending Sam and George were the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
Rameck was intelligent, but he never had the motivation to fulfill his potential
until he saw other people doing it. Seeing his two friends work hard and study and
stay away from trouble inspired him to do the same. He understood that being
surrounded by positive influences could change you, better you. This happened to
Rameck, and he wanted to share the power of positive influences with his
stepbrother, Michael. Michael and his friends accompanied Rameck onto the
college campus. Rameck hoped that they d be inspired to attend, since Michael used
to be smart. Michael endured years of bullying and teasing because of his
intelligence, and as a result of this, hid his brain behind a facade of new muscles and
toughness. His friends, though, were all completely nuisances. All day, Michael and
his friends ran across the campus wild, screaming and causing disturbances.... Show

His stepbrother scoffed and said that Rameck was making a big deal out of nothing
(132). As the two argued, a crowd of white people grew around them, much to
Rameck s dismay. In his mind, he believed the white students were misjudging him
already. He yelled at the onlookers to leave, but they wouldn t move. He attempted
to scare them by merely puffing himself up and going too close to a white student,
who just smirked at him. Rameck was in a conundrum; his fellow black friends
expected him to fight, because that was the norm in Plainfield when someone
disrespected you, but he also didn t want to confirm what the white people were
beginning to think of
Compare And Contrast Hurricane And Tornadoes
If you have never seen a tornado or hurricane, one day you might. Tornadoes and
hurricanes are severe storm systems that can devastate communities, towns, and
cities. Storms such as these are very dangerous and should not be taken lightly.
Tornadoes and hurricanes have several similarities as well as differences. These
similarities and differences can be seen in their appearance, casualties, and costs and
damages of the storms. Interestingly, the appearance of a tornadoand a hurricane are
very different. A tornado appears as a giant cone shaped figure that touches the
ground. A hurricane appears with heavy rains and strong winds, and appears near the
ocean. Tornadoes are rapidly spinning columns of air that extend from the sky and

Alcohol Consumption Among Youth Is Not A New Issue
Essay
1. Introduction
Alcohol consumption amongst youth is not a new issue New Zealand has a long
standing history of alcohol consumption both good and bad. In New Zealand, as is
also around the world, the consumption of alcohol has baggage both good and bad.
It is seen on a positive note as a social enabler, it allows oneself to let their guard
down a bit and feel at ease in situations out of their normal comfort zones, however
to every story there is also a flip side, and this is the idea that alcohol consumption is
the cause of social harm.
These views are also reflected in the thoughts of many New Zealander s today. An
online article, Contrary to belief, we may be losing binge from our drinking culture
(2012) highlights the disparities of views between those who are 50 years or older,
and those I deem part of the youth of New Zealand who are 30 years or younger. The
views show that the older group believe that New Zealanders, especially the younger
demographic have a problem with alcohol consumption, however, those in the
younger group acknowledged that as a society New Zealanders drink excessively,
many argued that we (New Zealand) was no different to any other country in regards
to alcohol consumption.
This perceived social norm of excessive drinking highlights the need to further
explore how as a society we can change the social norm so excessive drinking is not
an issue without stigmatizing a particular segment of society.

Indian Boy Love Song Analysis
The poems New Orleans by Joy Harjo and Indian Boy Love Song (#2) by Sherman
Alexie have two very similar themes. Themes are underlying message, or main
ideas, basically the theme is the lesson you learned after you read a story, or in this
instance a poem. The theme in New Orleans is that you should put forth the effort
to find out about your culture s history. While the theme of Indian Boy Love
Song(#2) is that you should, try your hardest to become close to your elders, don t
be distant. While both themes are focused on their culture, New Orleans is
actually looking for information on her Creek culture, but Indian Boy Love Song
(#2) is apologizing about how he s distant from his culture. In the poem New
Orleans the theme is that to learn more about your culture, you should put forth the
effort. To get this message Harjo used compare and contrasting. For example They
caught him in blue rock, said don t talk. I know it wasn t just a horse that went
crazy. This is showing development because it s showing how her people got
caught, and they attacked any and everything. Another way the author shows this is
by saying I have a memory. It swims deep in blood, a delta in the skin. This shows
that her heritage runs deep through her. In addition to these two quotes, another quote
that shows relation toward this development is Nearby is a shop with ivory and
knives. There are red rocks. The man behind the counter has no idea that he is inside
magic stones. He
Leadership Philosophy Of Leadership And Leadership
A Leadership Philosophy is our own definition of our leadership styles. It consists
of our beliefs, personal values, and assumptions. There is not one right way to
lead. Leadership should not be studied as a recipe or a checklist. It is more
important to develop a philosophy of leadership to guide your actions (Komives,
Lucas, and McMahon, 2013). We must create our own definition of leadership in
order to have an understanding of how to be leaders. Understanding our leadership
philosophy enables us to be better leaders and have an understanding on how
leadership affects our experiences leaders. I believe leadership is the process of
working together with a group of people to accomplish a common goal or positive
change. Leadership is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that a leader must implement their values and beliefs to create the
leadership style that it is best for them and that aligns with the organization s
vision and purpose. Personally, I lead with the ideologies of the Relational
Readership Model. This model calls for positive change through a process that is
empowering, inclusive, and ethical (Komives et al, 2013). Since we all have our
definition of leadership, it is hard to have a standard definition of leadership. My
definition has been reinforced by different assessment throughout the years. For
instance, when I took the assessment True Color I turned out to be a Gold, which I
expected because Golds tend to be organized and like to plan ahead to be prepared.
When leading, I am always prepared. I tend to plan everything ahead to assure
success. When thing do go wrong, I rely on my top strength from the
StrengthsQuest assessment. This strength is Context; which means I look for
answers looking back at my blueprints and original plans. This helps me be
confident that anything will work out based on the goal set at the beginning. Both
of these qualities, I believe are extremely important for everyone to practice in order
to accomplish leaderships. The past year, I served in the Hispanic Latino Student
Union (HLSU) Programming Board. With this position, I was responsible for
coordinating and facilitating HLSU futures events as well as

  • 2. Analysis Of Alexander Pope s The Enlightenment The Enlightenment is defined as a period, popularly confined to the eighteenth century, wherein scientific knowledge and method proliferated under the belief that all knowledge is achievable by man. Opening the gateway to modern philosophy, The Enlightenment aimed to explore the nature of human existence, being dubbed as an age of reason. Reason is defined as man s judgement that is, as Creighton explains, held in mind by one who would be freed from the bondage of the emotions and must, therefore, differentiate his own reason from the hinderance that is feeling , abandoning all sense of morality gained through religion and other environmental aspects. Creighton suggests the excellence of reason is supposed to consist in its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Rasselas, however, Johnson highlights the brutality of man through the kidnapping of Pekuah wherein she witnesses the immorality of slavery on her journey for happiness, highlighting how the corruption of man lies beyond the safe haven of Happy Valley. The valley itself is comparable to the Garden of Eden with its evils extracted and excluded. However, the connotations of a valley present it as claustrophobic and locked in, exacerbated by Rasselas initial futile attempts to escape. This suggests that while corruption lies beyond the valley, Johnson implies that the nature of man is to reach beyond our own limits regardless of current position, supported by the Original Sin wherein Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden in the pursuit of the tree of knowledge. Whilst the paradise of the Happy Valley supplies all manners of pleasure Rasselas uses his reason to determine that there must be more to his purpose, comparing the needs of man to that of animals and how they waste their lives in tuning one unvaried series of sounds 3 and concludes that man has surely some latent sense for which this place affords no gratification. Rasselas therefore separates all he has been raised to believe in order to explore his own purpose the very definition of reason. Pope can be seen to do the same when describing the lamb [...] had he not reason, would he skip or play? distinguishing the purpose of the primal animals from that of man. Pope s reason is also

Over his rule he ushered in many new ideas and polices for his vision of France. King Louis XIV Helped usher in the golden age of literature, ordered the Edict of Fontainebleau, and engaged France in war. King Louis XIV helped usher in the golden age of literature into France. He created institutions to help expand the fine arts. This to me is a great thing to do solely based on the idea of the expansion of knowledge. This would help and allow his people to expand their knowledge of the world around them. Without Louis I believe that the golden age of literature may have never happened. When King Louis XIV ordered the Edict of Fontainebleau he order the destruction of

The French company Boiron paid out a twelve million dollar settlement to consumers in California for selling a flu remedy with such a low concentration of active ingredient, it would be physically impossible for any to be present in the product. The active ingredient was duck liver, which Boiron claimed contained a rare form of bacteria. To make matters even more odd, the existence of this bacteria has been questioned and largely disproven. The Zone of Proximal Development is where the skill set taught to the child is much higher than the child s skill set. It also refers to the ability of children to master a task either on their own or with help. It describes the difficulty of a task ranging from a kid who gets it right away to someone who could not master the task without several weeks of assistance. Vygotsky felt that the child s current sociocultural environment played a strong role in how well they learned and language plays a strong role in shaping their thoughts. Actually right now, I want to think aloud, but the fact that my husband is in the other room, means I cannot. Because of that of that, I will edit and go over this tomorrow when he is not here. I believe private speech is an important aspect of learning in all stages of development. Try to watch yourself when you are trying to solve a difficult problem and I beat you think aloud. It is not just for young children. When you are writing a paper, reading the paper aloud is the best way to proofread your paper. I also like thinking quietly since I can think faster than I can talk, so often times I will do silent thinking. 3) Vygotsky and education. How important is education and what is the primary school teacher s role? Education is very important and the primary teacher s role plays a large part in how well a child learns. She should be a guide to the students and not be a dictator. Meaning she show them how to do things in a step by step process so they can eventually perform these task on their own. Early education sets the stage for learning in later years and is a very important aspect of child development. 4) Do you think Piaget s theory or Vygotsky s theory would be more helpful in teaching? Explain and add several examples. Both have theories that are helpful when teaching young children new
  • 7. Eharmony Examination What kind of a platform business is the online personals market? What kind of network effects (direct, cross sided, positive, and negative) does it leverage? How structurally attractive is it? The online personals market is a specific niche of social networking, and it is a sole sponsor, proprietary platform business. In terms of network effects, it could be seen as a one sided network (users can instigate an interaction, or can have someone else instigate an interaction with them), but is better described as a two sided market with men on one side, and women on the other (with the exception of homosexual sites which are clearly one sided markets). This not only proves to be a more accurate way to find dates, but also saves a great deal of time (where most online daters spend a 7 times as much time searching for a partner as they do interacting). And for men, who are usually fighting over a scarcity of women, they benefit from the majority percentage of women who have become the core of eHarmony s paid customers. Thus the value proposition for the customer is: better matches (and better quality people) with a much smaller time commitment. • 8. The Prevalence Of Low Blood Pressure With the global population suffering from an unprecedented distortion of the traditional age distribution, discussion and scientific inquiry surrounding the nature and impacts of dementia among the aging and the elderly is becoming increasingly prevalent within the public eye. One such story, conducted by the Erasmus Medical Center and reported in a BBC News online report, examines the prevalence of dementia in relation to preceding low blood pressure (Mundasad, 2016). The article, as reflected in its concluding professional recommendations, aims to indicate low blood pressure complications as a potential factor in developing dementia, thus informing consumer healthcare decisions and contributing to an expanding body of medical knowledge. In describing this study, BBC health reporter Smitha Mundasad explains the nature of the original endeavor. Researchers from the Erasmus Medical Center in the Netherlands posed a topic of inquiry indulging the research question of whether frequent incidents of low blood pressure have any impact on one s likelihood of contracting dementia over their lifetime (Mundasad, 2016). Their suspected alternate hypothesis states that frequent low blood pressure incidents will increase the occurrence of dementia within their sample participants. It is important to note that this hypothesis is directional, as Mundasad mentions that previous research has linked high blood pressure to various forms of dementia (2016). Thus, researchers had grounds to

  • 10. Slave Trade the Industrial Revolution The Atlantic slave trade was a key driving force to the industrial revolution in Britain Britain experienced a huge industrial development from 1750 onwards. This development led to Britain being one of the wealthiest countries in the world. The changes and development happened at the same period of time that the slave trade was at its peak and Britain was one of the countries most heavily involved. Britain also played the biggest role in the trade out of any other European country. Is this merely coincidence or is there a connection between these two? Was the slave trade causing Britain s growth in economy and industrial development? Seeing as the ports, such as the ports in Bristol and Liverpool became wealthy, more jobs were created, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Liverpool soon became the largest slave trading port in the Atlantic slave trade system. From this, Liverpool gained a lot of money from taxes on imports and exports which was hugely beneficial to the economy. The government gained about 5% of their income from the taxes paid on these ports which meant that the slave trade was accumulating significant amounts if money. Many jobs were also created by the trade as dockworkers, sailmakers, sailors and ship reporters were needed. Because of the job increase, the economy grew because of taxes and there were fewer unemployed people. From all the money that was being accumulated from the slave trade, Britain was able to finance a lot of new technology, such as the steam engine. This proves that the slave trade was highly involved in the industrial revolution. Huge profits were being made by investors, merchants and plantation owners and they were investing these profits into banking, insurance and the development of industries which allowed Britain to develop and advance in technology. New machines and techniques also came with the revolution and it also had a revolutionary effect on farming and manufacturing goods. New factories were developed and the manufacture of cotton became very important and a lot of the cotton being supplied by Britain was produced by slave labour. The invention of

  • 12. Nominalism Essay Nominalism The great revival of philosophical and theological study which the thirteenth century witnessed was conditioned by the influence of Aristotle. The theory of the universe propounded by the Stagirite had to be reconciled with the traditional Platonic Augustinian realism. This Thomas Aquinas undertook to do, following, Aristotle as closely as possible. Duns Scotus, on the other hand, attempted to maintain the ancient realism, while supporting it by modern or Aristotelian methods. Interests and tendencies, however, came up in his work which drove his disciples away from his position. In respect of the theory of cognition, where Duns Scotus had placed between the perceiving subject and the object perceived a sensible species and an intelligible species, Ockham considers these as superfluous machinery. Objects call forth sense impressions in us, which are transmuted by the active intellect into mental images. These images are thus a product of the intellect, not species which flow from the object into the intellectus possibilis. The reality of these images is thus, in the modern use of the terms, not objective but subjective. This is true not merely of the terms of first intention formed directly from sense impression, but also of the terms of second intention, i.e., the abstract terms which take note of common attributes, or universals. These latter correspond to a tendency of the human mind, which can not perceive individuals without at the same time attempting to form a general concept. A white object simultaneously suggests abstract whiteness; an extended, related, enduring object forces the conception of extension, relation, duration. The result of this line of reasoning is the absolute subjectivity of all concepts and universals and the limitation of knowledge to the mind and its concepts although these are real entities because of their subjective existence in the mind, reproducing the actual according to the constitution of the mind. Thus Ockham is really the pioneer of modern epistemology. The

It is an art that represents people s emotions and ethics. Bon iver is a band that uses these forms of pathos to get to the listener. Their albums are a mirror to people s feelings toward loneliness, places ,and hope. Bon iver was formed by justin vernon around 2006, during that time he had recently broke up with his band, his girlfriend, and was bedridden with mono. He decided to go up to his father s cabin in wisconsin,to be away from society. During the course of three months he spent some of his time doing normal outdoor work just to occupy his mind. Rife with hedonism, the honor/shame structure of the Roman Empire encourage the worship of the Emperor as God and the Empire as his Holy Empire. Against this narrative, the early Church was a counterculture to the ways of the empire and it is against this backdrop that Bruce Longenecker s The Lost Letters of Pergamum takes place. In Roman society, the food would be served based on position in society, but in the Church, everyone was treated as an equal. Paul admonishes the church at Corinth for such practices in the celebration of the Lord s Supper (1 Cor. 11:17 22). Paul bemoans the division that are present in the fellowship among believers and points to the counterculture equality that characterizes Christians. The Corinthians are following the conventions of their societal practices, yet in Christ there is a unity that overcomes the divisions of society. Upon first reading of this passage it seems that the Corinthians should have known better than to allow this practice to take place. However, with the cultural context this passage becomes less about intentional discrimination on the part of the Corinthians and more about the church finding its identity in the ways of Christ and not in the ways of the world. The cultural of the Roman Empire was a melting pot of the religious and cultural influences of the conquered societies that had been assimilated into the Empire. The various religions and cultural practice created a complex pantheon of gods. Ever larger temples and statues were erected to bring glory and honor to cities and give honor the Emperor. Additionally, cities would host gladiatorial games to bring honor to the Emperor. These events and building projects were facilitated by those who sought to bring greater glory and honor upon themselves with Roman society.
  • 15. The Significance Of A Rose In The War Of The Roses Q: Who was in the war and why was it started? A: The war of the roses was fought between the House of York and the House of Lancaster. These two houses were royal family descending from the head family of England. When king Henry the 6th suddenly fell ill to his first of many insanity spells Richard from the House of Yorkbelieved that he had the right to temporarily take over since he was the great grand son of king Edward the third. Except Queen Margaret had already given birth to the kings first son, his name was Edward of Lancaster. This made Richards claim to the throne a lot weaker since Edward was a direct descendant of the current king. The york s eventually marched against Henry and took him hostage Queen and his son to go into exile. The queen worked to rescue her husband and restore her sons place as the rightful king of England (Wars of the Roses British History). 2. Q: What is the significance of a rose in this war and why is it called war of the roses? A: The significance of a rose in this was was that it was one of many symbols used by each house. Doctors/Physicians or other medical personnel dictate and record medical reports about patients. These dictations generally discuss patients current symptoms, their medical history, known allergies, diagnostic process and suggested treatments. A Medical Transcriptionist listens to these recorded medical dictations and types these reports as per the instructions by the client using a computer and word processing software and sent back with turn around time (TAT). Hence, Medical Transcription is simply a process of converting voice recorded medical reports into suitable text format. Earlier, Medical Transcription was used to be done by using manual typewriters, but with the advancement of technology, electric typewriters replaced manual typewriters and further computers and word processing software changed the whole system. Today, these medical reports are recorded in digital formats which allow efficient data storage, ready retrieval and provide remote access to patients medical reports. Many health care facilities out source their Medical Transcription work to specialized agencies. The story does not follow a regular story line, but one that Robert Cormier decides is fit in his mind and he over exaggerates it aswell for an effect to state his point that, not every time you disturb the universe something good comes out. Robert Cormier wanted the characters be different, he did not make them how others wanted, being socially acceptable, he wrote the book how he thought it should have went in his mind, and doing so he gave the readers some new to read not just the everyday novel. Cormier gives the reader many examples of figurative language to express the real meaning of the story for example, Caroni watched the chalk in Brother Leon s hands, the way the teacher pressed it, rolled it, his fingers like the legs of spiders with a victim in their clutch. (90) In this quote Cormier gives a similar to exaggerate about how Brother Leon was holding the chalk in his hands. It sends a powerful message to the reader that Brother Leon is a horrible man, who had no mercy and he is seen by others as a powerful administrator in the school using quid pro quo in his own evil type of way. Cormier also uses more figurative language to give a specific emotion that Cormier was trying to express throughout his novel, that not every time someone disturbs the universe something good comes out of it. What happened with Renault was bad enough, but there was violence in the air. (209) This quote is the the example that even though Renault did disturb the universe and did try to stop the chocolate sale, he failed and something bad happened to him for trying. In the end Jerry s attempts to stop the chocolate sales failed, and still there was still violence in the air meaning the enemy he tried to defeat was angry, but still undefeated. And many readers dislike Cormiers way to end the book in a way that the hero does not defeat the villain(s). Like Richard Peck said The young will understand the outcome. They won t like it but they ll understand. (10) And this is exactly what Cormier had in mind when he was writing the book, that the readers wouldn t like the ending, but

The downside to this scheme was once he took the test for people, it was proven that they got into very high ranked schools but dropped out because they couldn t keep up with the rigorous course load that was asked of them to complete. Another thing is once he was caught, others confessed to get a less intense charge. This is an example of someone doing something bad for their own benefit, in this case it s money as it was in the Milgram

Befriending Sam and George were the beginning of a new chapter in his life. Rameck was intelligent, but he never had the motivation to fulfill his potential until he saw other people doing it. Seeing his two friends work hard and study and stay away from trouble inspired him to do the same. He understood that being surrounded by positive influences could change you, better you. This happened to Rameck, and he wanted to share the power of positive influences with his stepbrother, Michael. Michael and his friends accompanied Rameck onto the college campus. Rameck hoped that they d be inspired to attend, since Michael used to be smart. Michael endured years of bullying and teasing because of his intelligence, and as a result of this, hid his brain behind a facade of new muscles and toughness. • 49. Alcohol Consumption Among Youth Is Not A New Issue Essay 1. Introduction Alcohol consumption amongst youth is not a new issue New Zealand has a long standing history of alcohol consumption both good and bad. In New Zealand, as is also around the world, the consumption of alcohol has baggage both good and bad. It is seen on a positive note as a social enabler, it allows oneself to let their guard down a bit and feel at ease in situations out of their normal comfort zones, however to every story there is also a flip side, and this is the idea that alcohol consumption is the cause of social harm. These views are also reflected in the thoughts of many New Zealander s today. An online article, Contrary to belief, we may be losing binge from our drinking culture (2012) highlights the disparities of views between those who are 50 years or older, and those I deem part of the youth of New Zealand who are 30 years or younger. The views show that the older group believe that New Zealanders, especially the younger demographic have a problem with alcohol consumption, however, those in the younger group acknowledged that as a society New Zealanders drink excessively, many argued that we (New Zealand) was no different to any other country in regards to alcohol consumption. This perceived social norm of excessive drinking highlights the need to further explore how as a society we can change the social norm so excessive drinking is not an issue without stigmatizing a particular segment of society. • 50. Indian Boy Love Song Analysis The poems New Orleans by Joy Harjo and Indian Boy Love Song (#2) by Sherman Alexie have two very similar themes. Themes are underlying message, or main ideas, basically the theme is the lesson you learned after you read a story, or in this instance a poem. The theme in New Orleans is that you should put forth the effort to find out about your culture s history. While the theme of Indian Boy Love Song(#2) is that you should, try your hardest to become close to your elders, don t be distant. While both themes are focused on their culture, New Orleans is actually looking for information on her Creek culture, but Indian Boy Love Song (#2) is apologizing about how he s distant from his culture. In the poem New Orleans the theme is that to learn more about your culture, you should put forth the effort. To get this message Harjo used compare and contrasting. For example They caught him in blue rock, said don t talk. I know it wasn t just a horse that went crazy. This is showing development because it s showing how her people got caught, and they attacked any and everything. Another way the author shows this is by saying I have a memory. It swims deep in blood, a delta in the skin. This shows that her heritage runs deep through her. I believe that a leader must implement their values and beliefs to create the leadership style that it is best for them and that aligns with the organization s vision and purpose. Personally, I lead with the ideologies of the Relational Readership Model. This model calls for positive change through a process that is empowering, inclusive, and ethical (Komives et al, 2013). Since we all have our definition of leadership, it is hard to have a standard definition of leadership. My definition has been reinforced by different assessment throughout the years. For instance, when I took the assessment True Color I turned out to be a Gold, which I expected because Golds tend to be organized and like to plan ahead to be prepared. When leading, I am always prepared. I tend to plan everything ahead to assure success. When thing do go wrong, I rely on my top strength from the StrengthsQuest assessment. This strength is Context; which means I look for answers looking back at my blueprints and original plans. This helps me be confident that anything will work out based on the goal set at the beginning. Both of these qualities, I believe are extremely important for everyone to practice in order to accomplish leaderships.
