Facilitating Learning And Assessment In
Practice Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Facilitating Learning and Assessment in Practice" can be a
challenging yet rewarding task. The difficulty arises from the multifaceted nature of the subject,
requiring a comprehensive understanding of educational theories, practical applications, and
assessment strategies. Crafting a well-informed and insightful essay involves delving into various
aspects, such as pedagogical methods, learner engagement, and the intricacies of designing
effective assessments.
One of the challenges is the need to strike a balance between theoretical frameworks and real-
world application. The essay should not only showcase theoretical knowledge but also
demonstrate how these concepts translate into practical scenarios. This requires a deep
exploration of case studies, examples, and possibly personal experiences or observations related
to facilitating learning and conducting assessments in educational settings.
Another aspect that adds complexity is the ever-evolving nature of education. Educational
practices, theories, and assessment techniques are continually evolving, influenced by research
findings, technological advancements, and changes in societal expectations. Therefore, staying
abreast of the latest developments and incorporating current trends in the essay adds an
additional layer of complexity.
Furthermore, addressing the various stakeholders involved in the learning and assessment
process, such as educators, learners, and administrators, necessitates a nuanced approach. The
essay should consider the diverse perspectives and expectations of these stakeholders, exploring
how effective facilitation of learning aligns with their needs and goals.
In summary, crafting an essay on "Facilitating Learning and Assessment in Practice" demands a
thorough understanding of educational theories, practical applications, and the ability to integrate
evolving trends. It requires a careful balance between theory and practice, consideration of
diverse perspectives, and a commitment to staying informed about the dynamic nature of
education.

The Birdman Of Alcatraz, By Aka Robert Stroud
While you may have heard of, The Birdman of Alcatraz, aka Robert Stroud, another
popular Alcatraz inmate. He was probably the most famous inmate to reside on
Alcatraz. In 1909, Stroud brutally murdered a bartender when he failed to pay the
girl Stroud was pimping for. He shot the bartender to death and took the wallet for
the prostitute. Stroud was convicted of manslaughter and sent to McNeil Island in
1911. At McNeil Island, he was noted to be violent and difficult to manage. Robert
Stroud viciously assaulted a hospital orderly and even stabbed a fellow inmate. As a
result of his hostility, he was sentenced an additional six months. Stroud was moved
to Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary in Kansas because of overcrowding and... Show

Unfortunately, Robert Stroud was never to able to see the move of himself, Birdman
of Alcatraz, by Burt Lancaster. The movie portrayed Robert with a more calm
personality, the opposite of his actual behavior. (Alcatraz History: Famous Inmates)
Everyone knows how hard it would have been to escape Alcatraz and live, so
escape attempts were rarely rewarding. Alcatraz was open for twenty nine years
and only had fourteen escape attempts with thirty six involved prisoners overall.
No attempts were considered successful. One prisoner actually made it to San
Francisco, but was promptly arrested and returned. Two inmates drowned in the
bay and six were shot dead during their attempts. Twenty three were captured and
returned, but five were never found. Prisoner officials say the five prisoners must
have also drowned. The first escape attempt was made in April, 1936, by Joseph
Bowers, prisoner 210. He was shot and killed. The Battle of Alcatraz is considered
one of the bloodiest escape attempts in the history of Alcatraz. It s also known as
the Alcatraz Blast Out . On May 2, 1946, six prisoners tried to take control of the
main building. They were able to overpower the guards and the battle lasted two
days. Two officers were killed and many others had several injuries. Three out of the
six prisoners who attempted to escape died in battle. Finally, on May 4,
reinforcements came and took control. The living three inmates went on trial for the
murders
The Amendment And The Rights Amendment
Possibly the most conversational amendment to every make it s way through the
Senate and the House was the Equal Rights Amendment in 1972. The Equal Rights
Amendment was, introduced through the twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, and sixties
without success (Schneir, 369). Various organizations such as the National Woman s
Party (those who proposed it), National Organization for Women, the Women s
Department of the United Auto Workers, and many other feminists worked most if
not all of their lives to pass this specific amendment. In the early 1970 s, the House
approved the amendment by a large ratio of 354 to 23. Additionally, in 1972, the
Senate also passed the amendment by another shocking ratio of 84 to 8.
Unfortunately, the amendment did not pass by its deadline of June 30th, 1982 by
only thirty five states approving it for ratification by at least thirty eight states
(Schneir, 370). There were various reasons why the amendment did not pass, and
Miriam Schneir discussed several of these in the section Equal Rights Amendmentin
the book Feminism in Our Time. Though the Equal Rights Amendment had various
dedicated supporters working to pass it, it also had several Anti Equal Rights
Amendment working to make sure it DID NOT pass. One key figure in this Anti
Equal Rights Amendment was Phyllis Schlafly. Schlafly argued that the passing of
the Equal Rights Amendment would cause there to be a boom in the creation of
unisex bathrooms. She argued that bathrooms
The Carrying Capacity Of A Tourist Resource
.
The carrying caapacity studies began during the 1930 s (O Reilly, 1986;
Saveriades, 2000), they were principally developed in the 1960 s in the national
parks of the United States of America (McCool and Lime, 2001; Manning et al.,
2002).The carrying capacity concept is essentially a decision making framework
informed by the regular measurement of agreed indicators of quality. The concept of
carrying capacity was derived in the early 1960 s from range management and was
applied to tourism and hospitality management. It was concluded that carrying
capacity is not just one single notion but an amalgamation of four different carrying
capacities which are namely physical, Ecological psychological and Economical.
Ecological carrying capacity relates to the maximum use of a tourist resource
without causing any harm to the environment. Social carrying capacity relates to the
reaction of the local people to the tourist development of the place, which should
never be negative, Psychological carrying capacity relates to the quality of visitors
satisfaction with a certain tourist destination, which is not to be decreased;
Economic carrying capacity relates to the level of acceptable dependence between
the local economy and the level of the tourist development of a place, which should
never become too heavy
The carrying capacity of any tourist destination, whether it be an historic building, a
beach or a dive site, is not a single figure that can be calculated and fixed. It is a

Headbanger s Roots To those who have not been exposed to other genres besides
mainstream music, I am hoping to give you some insight on a headbanger s roots.
With new metal bands popping up in local cities, it s important to understand the
history behind the genre. Like every other genre, heavy metal can be traced back
to it s roots, to the moment where everything changed and turned into something
that will continue to affect people for years to come. It caused an uproar first in
England, and then spread like wildfire to all four corners of the world. Heavy
metal was a musical revolution that brought together diverse groups of people
while influencing new genres, ideas, and lifestyles worldwide Heavy metal was
created in the late 1960 s. One of the most influential bands in this genre was, and
continues to be, Black Sabbath. This band paved the way for hundreds of subgenres
after their time. Black Sabbath originated in Birmingham, England where Ozzy
Osbourne, Tony Lommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward formed a band originally
named The Polka Tulk Blues Band. Around this time, their town was going through
an economic depression where unemployment was rising and working class factories
were being shut down. Because of their angst, they filled their songs with horror
inspired lyrics, political corruption, the dangers of drug
Examples Of Affordable Housing Problems In Vancouver
Affordable housing problem in Vancouver
Context
Vancouver is a major city in the province of British Columbia, Canada. The housing
crisis has plagued its residents, governments, organisations, and the community as a
whole. The issues faced by the city of Vancouver is not about having enough houses
to accommodate residents, but primarily around affordability. Around twenty percent
of Canadian renters face a housing crisis, spending more than half their income on
shelter costs (McMahon, 2015). In 2010, different groups such as lone parent
households with children, couple parent households with children, senior led
households, and singles living alone spent 50 99% of their income on housing costs

Canada s affordable housing policy has supported Canadians in homeownership
since the 1950s (Canadian Electronic Library [CEL] Canadian Housing and
Renewal Association [CHRA], 2009). A series of social housing programs,
subsidies were introduced and funded by government agencies. The responsibilities
of the program was shared between distinct levels of government, federal, provincial,
and municipal (CEL CHRA, 2009). This collaboration was done at a nation wide
level to promote affordable housing among communities. According to CEL and
CHRA (2009), the status of funds towards affordable housing became uncertain as
agreements between governments were set to expire (p. 2). So the government
agencies exhausted their resources while tackling the ever rising need for affordable
How Did Ernest Hemingway Influenced By Ernest
Hemingway
From Hemingway s outlandish family, to his principal influencers, it is understood
that these are the key inspirations for his triumph in the writing realm. People either
adored Hemingway or had a strong hatred for him. Hemingway connects to his
writing in a way that no other author of his time period could, which is shown
throughout his writing. A substantial part of Hemingway s life was in the war,
whether that was fighting or just helping out around the trenches. He did all of these
things and still had a longing to travel the world. Ernest Hemingwaywas an
excessively influential author to the overall modernism literary movement. He had a
unique childhood and an extraordinary overall life. He took much pride in the quality

Hemingway s attitude
Hemingway s attitude was a prominent part of him which determined many people
s perceptions of him. One bizarre thing about Hemingway was that he didn t want
a biography written during his lifetime and hoped that no one would write one
until a century after his death. Three years before he died, he wrote in his will that
none of his many letters were allowed to ever be published. But in the years since
his death, Hemingway has had more written about him than any other American
writer in the twentieth century. Hemingway was the kind of guy to tell something
like it was. His sentences usually were not too complicated and he encompassed
many stories by means of repetition (Adams). Hemingway also had a malevolent
side to him. If he thought a women were not likeminded to him, he would threaten
to take his own life (Adams). He once boasted of shooting a dog in such a way as
to ensure it would take days to bleed to death (Adams). After going through this
phase of having a horrid sense of humor, he started to tell everyone what to do.
Hemingway had arrived; he saw himself as one of the patriarchs of American
literature, young as he was. He began to be everyone s papa, but not often a
benevolent one. He
An Industrial Policy Of A National
Industrial manufacturing employment in the country has not grown significantly in
the last two decades. Activities linked to services, trade and construction have been
more encouraged by the growth style of the country. There has not been an industrial
policy from the government that generates incentives for creation of manufacturing
companies with high technological content, generating qualified and well paid
employment, and who have been able to settle in the branches that can make possible
the transformation of natural resources, which Peru has in abundance.

Specific Kinds Of Foods You Should Eat
Specific kinds of foods you should eat Note that the list below does not account for
condiments and toppings; it just lists good food items. For instance, turkey breast
is very good for you. Turkey breast covered in heavy cream sauce or deep fried in
lard is not. Use your brain here. Your dietary staples should include: Lean animal
protein sources (fattier meats are acceptable if trying to gain muscle mass),
including but not limited to: Most turkey and chicken in general, especially if it is
skinless. Turkey and chicken breasts especially. Ground turkey, chicken, beef or
pork. Virtually all forms of fish, even the fattier fishes are very good for you. Tuna,
while also good, should be eaten sparingly if you re concerned about mercury
consumption. More exotic type meats, if you can find them: buffalo, ostrich, lamb,
elk, venison, alligator, etc. Whole eggs Whole grains, including but not limited to:
Whole wheat bread, bagels, rolls, etc. Whole wheat pasta Brown rice Oatmeal
Whole grain breakfast cereals and muesli Virtually all fruits and vegetables,
including beans and dry roasted nuts. Vegetables are satiating, protect against a
variety of diseases, are rich in almost every essential micronutrient and help with
digestion. Healthy fats like olive oil (for sauces, dressings low temperature cooking)
and canola oil (for high temperature cooking), and Omega 3 rich fish oil. Dairy
products like plain yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, and milk. Notes for vegetarians Not
Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Essay
Sexual harassment in the workplace is a very serious problem that must be dealt
with effectively. Sexual harassment is defined as a form of sex discrimination,
which is a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It involves
unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical
conduct of a sexual nature, especially when submission to this conduct is made a
term or condition of one s employment (Sexual Harassment). However, sexual
harassment is not limited to sexual advances. It also includes the creation of a
intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment based on one s sex.
Although men also face harassment, women are the most likely victims. Harm

Is it okay to tell off color jokes? What is unwelcome? When is conduct based on
sex? Are employees allowed to flirt on the job? What happens when someone gets
offended? Who decides what is appropriate? Should employees be required to tolerate
some behavior but not another? Today, courts will more likely find an illegal hostile
environment present when the workplace includes sexual propositions, pornography,
extremely vulgar language, sexual touching, degrading comments, or embarrassing
questions or jokes. There are many examples of court cases which back this up.
(1) In Hall v. Gus Construction Co., a construction company had hired three woman
to work at road construction sites. Male co workers continually subjected these
women to verbal sexual abuse. One woman even developed a skin reaction to the
sun which the men immediately labeled ?Herpes.? The women often found
obscenities written in the dust on their co worker. Male co workers continuously
asked the women for sexual favors. IN addition to the verbal abuse, the women were
constantly subjected to offensive and unwelcome physical contact. On one occasion,
the men help up one of the female employees so that the driver of a truck could touch
her. The men subjected all three women to other types of abuse including ?mooning?
them, showing them pornographic pictures, and urinating in their water bottles and
automobile gas tanks. The company?s supervisor was well aware of all of these
First Aid for Adults Essay
First Aid for Adults
For my listening piece I decided to do a talk on first aid for adults. I identified the
main characteristics of scripted speech and tried to emulate them in my piece. The
key characteristics of instructional speech are that it uses very short, concise
sentences to give directions. Long complex sentences can lead to ambiguity and
confusion. Instructional speech uses simple, easy to understand vocabulary as
complicated wording, jargon and terminology make instructions difficult to
understand and may confuse the listener. The points must also be presented in a
logical order to make them easy to follow.
The audience should be addressed directly, using a fairly personal, ... Show more

In my third and fourth drafts, I put the information into even smaller blocks to
emphasise the succinct style of writing because I felt that it was still too difficult to
follow; so I used more bullet points and used capitals, underlining and italics to
emphasise key words and phrases. Also in the graphology of the piece I have used
dashes in order to more effectively show where the reader would give a slight pause.
An example is in a hundred compressions a minute just under two a second .
In the third paragraph in particular, the sentences were too complex so having
originally written them as one complex sentence in the pluperfect tense, I broke them
down in to one point per sentence and put them in the present tense so that it would be
easier to understand. I also changed some of the verbs that were in the present tense
into the imperative form because it made the phonology sharper and clearer for the
audience to hear. One example is in the sentence After you have returned to the
casualty and rechecked their breathing and they are not breathing or if the likely
cause of unconsciousness is trauma or drowning and they are not breathing, you now
give two rescue breaths . The sentence was much too long and confusing so I
changed it to When you return to the casualty re check their breathing. If they are not
breathing or if the likely cause
Supreme Court System
In 1789 the U.S. Supreme Court was established by the constitution of the united
states. Understandably it has changed and has been reworked of the centuries,
although the core concepts have stayed the same. Looking at the makeup of the U.S.
Supreme Court it consists of nine justices, who are appointed by the president. The
current U.S. Supreme Court justice include John Roberts Anthony Kennedy Clarence
Thomas Ruth Bader Ginsburg Stephen Breyer Samuel Alito Sonia Sotomayor, and
Elena Kagan. Many of these justice have been in office for decades others just a few
years but all have a long list of past positions. The U.S. Supreme Court plays a very

Supreme Court the most commonly know is judicial review, also know as the ability
of the Court to announce a Legislative or Executive act in violation of the
Constitution, this is not found directly within the text of the Constitution itself. The
Court established this doctrine in the case that we researched previously Marbury v.
Madison. In this case, the Court had to conclude whether an Act of Congress or the
Constitution was the absolute law of the land. The Judiciary Act of 1789 gave the
Supreme Court original jurisdiction to issue writs of mandates. A suit was brought
under this Act, the Supreme Court recognized that the Constitution did not grant the
Court to have original jurisdiction in this case. Because Article VI of the Constitution
authorized the Constitution as the Supreme Law of the Land, the Court held that an
Act of Congress that is conflicting to the Constitution could not stand. In following
cases, the Court also established its authority to strike down state laws found to be in
violation of the Constitution. Before the passage of the Fourteenth Amendment, the
provisions of the Bill of Rights were only relevant to the federal government. After,
the Supreme Court began ruling that all of its provisions were applicable to the states
as well. Thus, the Court has the final say over when a right is protected by the
Constitution or when a Constitutional right is
Stereotypes Of The Apache Tribe
After visiting Arizona multiple times, and learning about the history of the Native
peoples that once inhabited the area, I decided to do my research paper on the
Apache tribe. The Apache Indians are a group of culturally related Native American
tribes in the Southwestern United States, including present day Oklahoma, Texas,
and reservations in Arizona and New Mexico. In the beginning of their time, the
ApacheIndians had migrated to the Kansas plains, where they were not accustomed
to living and farming on the plains, and eventually their weakness was overtaken by
the Comanche Tribe. After the Apaches were defeated and their land was seized, they
moved onward to areas like New Mexico and Arizona and parts of Texas. The Apache
are distant cousins of the Navajo, with which they share the Southern Athabaskan
languages. Apache Nations are politically autonomous, speak different languages...

So many people today have failed to understand the Native Americans in context of
history, which includes conquest of land, forced relocation, and organized efforts to
eradicate native cultures. There shouldn t be any stereotypes toward Native
Americans, they shouldn t be labeled as blood thirsty savages for simply defending
their own land from intruders. Whether they are portrayed as noble savages,
environmentalists, drunken, living of the government, Indian princess/squaw, casino
rich, they find an effort to be treated with a measure of respect and integrity, and that
is something that I ve learned. They may have shown people how to throw knives and
axes, ride horses, pass down stories to younger generations, but in today s society the
history of the Native Americans have taught us so much more than that, and to me,
that is what s important about
Health Issues Of Health Informatics
Health Informatics has been around for ages, but over the pass ten plus years the
profession has increased with higher demand. Health informatics is one of the nation
s largest growth industries. Health informatics has grown as a discipline with
specialization in areas within the health profession. This field of study incorporates
procedure, theories and concepts from computer information science. As the medical
profession increases so do the health data security and privacy has become a major
growing concern. The main concern is protecting the privacy of medical patient
information. Over the past few years there have been numerous medical information
breaches, either by hackers or employees. Meanwhile, companies are being faced
with security issues that result in expensive fines. On the other hand, there s pro s
and con s to health information and with this is different kinds of software. Overall,
health informaticsis changing along with health care.
On the contrary, health informatics is defined as study of resources and methods for
the management of health information. Meanwhile, the practice itself is supported by
medical practice which involves electronic health records, electronic medical records
and health information. These kinds of technology are used for patient care known as
clinical informatics. There are numerous sub specialties that go along with
informatics here are a few: Public Health, Biomedical, and Clinical Informatics.

John Brownand his family would set out on a driving journey through Michigan.
Lodging in the home of a slave owner, Brown was able to build a relationship with

Gilbert agreed with labeling John Brown as a terrorist and describes his disgust
when Brown is praised for being a martyr. Gilbert argued that Brown had three
main beliefs: Society is sick and cannot be cured by half measures of reform, the
state in itself violent and can be countered and overcome only by violence, and that
the truth of terrorist cause justifies any action that supports. While some terrorist
recognize no moral law, others have their own higher mortality (232). The same
republic that Gilbert is defending, was the same republic that founded a
constitution in which every person had a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness; The same government that interpreted the bible in a way to make
whites superior above all else. This white man who is given the ultimate power by
the government is the one who labeled blacks as property, beat them profusely, and
stripped away at any possible humanity they were entitled to. They took blacks from
their home country, labeled them as inferior and as subservient knee benders . John
Brown grew up witnessing these horrid actions and, on without any violence.
However, these passive actions were combated with his removal from the church for
trying to allowing blacks to sit in his pew in church, Elijah Lovejoy (an antislavery
minster and editor), was killed after publishing an article against the lynching of
blacks, Senator Charles Sumner, who delivered an antislavery speech on the floor of

technology offering to buy your startup company even before you ve made a name

Reading How venture capitalists evaluate potential venture opportunities , an investor
said they usually invest in a person knows their sector very well. You could easily
hire another person who is good at marketing, and offers help with that. After all, if an
idea is so good but the only thing holding the investment opportunity back, then it
could be worth it. That s exactly what happened in this case, when Hambrecht offered

consultant also helped the co founders build a business plan.
On reflection we know that as a company, Adobe Systemshas been very successful

startups, founders cannot accurately predict how successful they will be. Problems
of different severity may arise, which could completely derail the startup company.
So it is not uncommon for founders to feel scared or unsure about quitting their

dilemma which Geschke had. He was in a stable job at a company called Xerox,
who is also in the technology industry. In his words, he had this great job at Xerox,
a nice big office overlooking the whole Bay Area . His parents also questioned his
decision. This is one of the many risks founders have to assess before launching their
startups. The risk dilemma also

A Reflection On Public Service
As students of Masters of Public Service degrees, it is imperative to develop a
holistic and deep understanding of what public service means. Our class discussions
have shown us the ambiguity of striking a balance between opposing forces: between
intention and outcome, aid and empowerment, intrinsic and extrinsic affirmation, and
self interest and altruism. How do we balance these perspectives, when each has its
benefits and pitfalls to the success of any project? In determining my own definition
of public service, my hope is to elucidate factors that optimize each of these
perspectives. In doing so, we can come closer to defining public service in a way
that is both operationally useful and ethically guiding. Considering course documents
and class discussions, I have defined the phrase as follows:
The public is a marginalized body unable or unexpected to monetarily repay
servants for provided goods. Service is an act that results in improved quality of
life as reported by receiving individuals. Therefore public service is defined by (1)
actions resulting (2) in goods that improve quality of life (3) as reported by
marginalized recipients (4) who are unable or unexpected to monetarily repay the

By fragmenting the definition into four parts, I can address the issues of intention

self interest versus altruism in public service. Applying the Formula of Universal Law
What Are The Causes Of The Age Of Exploration
The Age of Exploration, starting from the 15th century and lasting until the
beginning of the 17th century, was a period of time in which the Europeans
explored the Americas and Africa while searching for a more efficient trade route
with Asia. However, the Europeans did not just discover this lands, but also made
use of them and the native population. The causes of the Age of Exploration were
God, Gold and Glory which effects were the expansion of Christianity, importation of
precious resources into Europeand colonization of new lands.
The first cause of the Age of Exploration was God which resulted in an expansion of
Christianity. Missionaries were sent to the newly discovered continents to convert the
native population to Christianity. In a letter from Father Kino, a Catholic Priest, in
1687, it is described how he succeeded to convert the Indian tribes and started

In the beginning of the 16th century, the importation of gold was close to zero but
a century after Columbus found America, the income of gold from the new world
reached almost 7 millions of ounces (Doc 3). Another evidence for the great import
of gold in Europe is the money spent on sending missionaries to convert and
conquistadors to kill the native population and use their lands. The whole scheme of
the Europeans was created by the desire to import more resources in their countries.
This leads to the discovery of new continents which resources and native people are
exploited by most of the coastal countries in Europe. However, the huge import of
precious metals leads to inflation. That makes countries like Spain and Portuguese one
the richest and most powerful countries in the 16th and 17th centuries and allows
them to sent settlers to the newly discovered lands and create
The Lord Of The King
The Israelites were simply unable to follow the word of the Lord, were constantly
disobeyed him, thus offending and angering the Lord. In order to control them, the
Lord set, what would become, a long line of judges, or chieftains. The duties of
these men were to follow the word of the Lord, and to entrust the word of G d into
their followers. Their first judge was Othniel the Kenizzite, and in the case of
Othniel, the spirit of the Lord descended upon him and he became Israel s chieftain.
(Judges. 3:9 10). By the rule of this man, the Israeliteswent to war, won, and the land
had peace for forty years. (Judges. 3:11). This man was loyal, strong, and proactive
in his duties to protect and maintain peace in his land. The next judge was Ehud,
who was sent by the Lord to kill King Eglon of Moab, who the Lord had let rule
over the Israelites as their punishment for offending Him. This man was not only
cynical in the casual murder of Eglon, but also proved extremely loyal to the Lord.
He then went on to slay over 10,000 Moabites, which made his land tranquil for
eighty years. (Judges. 3:30). After the death of Ehud, the Israelites again angered the
Lord, and he made them suffer for twenty years at the hands of King Jabin of Canaan.
Following their cries, the Lord appointed Deborah. She fearlessly led 10,000 men up
Mount Tabor, in pursue of defeating Jabin s army commander, and, much like Ehud,
cynically murdered the man while he slept trusting next to her. While the list
The Effects Of Media On Our Society
In our society, media is constantly being used not only to communicate but also to
learn about what is going around the world. The web gives the chance to share
news and even lets people talk to one another. The internet spreads information and
ideas quickly and reaches out too many people. Much of what our society sees and
reads often come from sources provided by the internet. Based on these sources,
knowledge is gained, wither it is real or fake. Constantly seeing media gives our
society the idea that it is real. Videos, music, and photos are a way of spreading
ideas clearly to more people. Due to this, ideas such as the end of the world sparks
conversations and creates theories.

Great Flood is a controversy that also spread panic. Johannes Stoffler, a germen
astrologer issued a world ending flood. This flood was set to occur on February

Creating a flood that was set to destroy our world, Hundreds of pamphlets
announcing the coming flood were issued and set in motion a general panic (Cole).
With Stoffler s statements and highly respected research, the event seemed as if it
was in fact the end. As time passed and theories did not occur, the fearand predictions
remain. Harold Camping predicted the end of the world would happen on May 21,
2011. 7000 years prior to this date was when the Biblical Flood was said to occur.
As the date approached, Camping announced his math was incorrect and declared
October 21, 2011, to be the official date for doomsday. As the internet grew more
popular, research was being brought to attention and even movies have been created
to document the events that will occur on this day known as doomsday. A huge

Righteous Dopefiend Analysis
Righteous Dopefiend Analysis
Homelessness is a social crisis that has stayed with us throughout our history. There
was an increase in the number of homeless people in the 1980s due to housing and
social service cuts increasing. In Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg s, Righteous
Dopefiend, being homeless is just one of the many problems that encompass their day
to day reality. The two anthropologists assimilate themselves in the homeless
community and observe the hardships that come from living on the streets and drug
addiction. A better understanding is attained through their ethnographic research and
details of the homeless lives can be used to further our knowledge and help in
solving society s problems. This ethnography shows ... Show more content on

Lastly, third explanation is a comprised of ideas from the former two and suggests
that the American school system is at fault because they do not provide adequate
education for the poor. Social and living conditions make it hard for people in poverty
to get out and largely affect children. Such as when Persia gave the okay for Tina to
sell her body when she was young; it contributed to who she is in the present.
Sexuality has an extremely complex relationship to gender relations in general and
gender inequality in particular (W R, 316). The sexual abuse that Tina suffered
from when she was young was also another contributing factor. She became numb to
the act and treats it as a source of currency to obtain favors; exercising her
femininity when it became advantageous to her. She resents people who think low
of her because of her sex, as shown in her fight with Frank (B S, 66).
Often times the homeless people were sent to jail for possession, public urination
and/or intoxication, or sleeping outside (B S, 112 113). Society has criminalized
those who needed to be treated and while they re in jail they experience withdrawal
symptoms. Once they re released, many of them do not have anywhere or any jobs
to go. Relapsing is a high probability because some do not have a social network or
support to help them. In the 1990s and 2000s the only form of post aid was the

Donald Trump s Immigration Debate
Donald Trump, a current US presidential candidate, is proposing an immigration plan
that is highly controversial and I personally do not agree with his plan. Although he
has many good ideas the way he plans to execute them are extremely unlawful and
will be protested by many Americans.
Trump has proposed that if he were elected he would build a wall on the border of
Mexico and the United States. In his opinion this is a good plan because it insures to
lessen the number of illegal immigrants per year dramatically, but it would also
create more jobs the US. But in reality there are much simpler and cheaper options

The Automobile and the Economy Essay

The effects the automobile has had on the economy of the world are tremendous.
The major effects have came in many ways and include sales of the automobile, jobs
provided to sell and manufacture the automobile, gas/oil sales to run the automobile,
and the start of auto racing sport. The revolution of the automobile was the start of the
most popular and successful industry in the world.
The Effect of Gas/Oil

The Quality Of Air Environment And Health Of The Great
London
1.Introduction
1.1.Background
The quality of air is a very important factor in projecting, representing and monitoring
the status of environment and health of the Great London. It is known that the Great
London has a name of foggy city since the severe air pollution event during December
1952 (?). Even though the air status has been improved in a large degree in the recent
years, atmospheric pollutant monitoring should be never ignored, and should advance
the measured technology and data model. The present model is supported with GIS
that use a geographic dimension to express the air quality information. The
geographical model is built by relating the actual pollution concentrations to the
physical characteristics of the pollution such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The projects are designed with the following objectives:
1)The value of nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and SO2 are vividly
represented in various urban places across the Great London.
2)The value change of nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and SO2 are
effectively visualized with temporal variation.
3)The emission inventories are efficiently connected with the nitric oxide (NO),
nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and SO2 values to monitor the emission sources.
4)The atmospheric pollution model are completely built across the Great London.
1.3.Information required
The most important aspect of modelling air pollution during temporal and spatial
change is the pollutants content which could stand for the air quality. For instance,
the concentration of nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and SO2 are used as
the indicator of air pollution in this project. Model maps are needed, for example, by
identifying pollution hot spots , to show the distribution of air pollutant in spatial
patterns, and to provide further estimates of human health conditions. Another
product is the graph showed the temporal change of air pollution. This project should
use the traditional way that makes the multiple line graphs for presenting the
temporal trends in different locations on a GIS map, since the multi temporal

Personal Goals And Abilities Of A Social Enterprise
According to (Young, 2008) A social enterprise is thought to be something new and
something distinct from classical business and traditional non profit activity,
combining at different extents elements of the social purpose, the market orientation
and financial performance standards of business . When looking at starting up a
social enterprise there are important points that need to be looked at the help ensure
the enterprise is successful.
Firstly before the start up of a social or technological enterprise there are issues that
have to be assessed, these are personal goals and abilities, resource availability and
opportunity (Schaper, Volery, Weber Gibson, 2014). The personal goals and abilities
of a social enterprise are to address social and environmental problems, mostly
looking at the root of a market, also aiming for the majority of profits to be
reinvested back into the enterprise this will increase social purpose. A standard
enterprise is usually more concerned in earning profits for the shareholders and
owners (Social Enterprise UK, 2012).
Resource availability is another issue that has to be assessed before starting a social
enterprise, more specifically entry costs and exit costs. In New Zealand the social
finance sector is significantly under developed and as a result of this it makes social
enterprise start up very difficult, therefore initial financing has to come from New
Zealanders own personal pockets until some sort of funding is found (Schaper,
Monsanto White Gold Pet Child
Webster s Dictionary definition of profit is the compensation accruing to
entrepreneurs for the assumption of risk in business enterprise as distinguished
from wages or rent. Businesses run off of risk in order to make huge amounts of
money. They trust the consumers to buy their products or services. They trust their
suppliers with materials they need. They also trust the efficiency of their
production line. Some businesses are so obsessed with the profits they gain that
many people s lives are put at risk. The agricultural industry, Monsanto, does a great
job at creating genetically modified seeds and creating chaos for farmers.

allows the strongest seed to reproduce and make more seeds with even stronger
characteristics. GMOs try to do this artificially which lead to their downfall every
time. Suppose a farmer learned this and decides not to purchase any more of these
seeds, Professor Zongo also stated that, If a farmer doesn t follow the flow and
refuses to adapt the GMOs, they are cut from fertilizers and can t sell their products.
(Organic Dreams,1:00) In this case, the farmers are being punished for forming their

Effects Of Gaming On Mental Health
The Effects of Gaming on a Person s Health
The effects of gaming on a person is a controversial issue. Many people believe
that it is a bad influence, but there is also evidence that games can have positive
effects on a person s health. Many studies have been done into the topic of the
effects of video games on a person. The findings show that video games have a
positive effect on a person s mental and social health and have many unrelated health
benefits. The biggest type of health that video games affect is a person s mental and
emotional health. Studies show that video games have positive effects on mental
health. In the study Is Time Spent Playing Video Games Associated with Mental
health, Cognitive and Social Skills in Young Children? it was found that video
games have positive effects on mental health. Viviane Kowess Masfety et al. say
The results of the present study suggest that video game use is not associated with
an increased risk of mental health problems. On the contrary, the data presented
here suggest that video games are a protective factor (356). Isabela Granic et al.
discusses the effects video games have on emotions and mood and how these affect
mental health. They say, Several studies have shown a causal relation between
playing preferred video games and improved mood or increases in positive emotion
(71). The improvement to mood and emotions can have many positive effects to
mental health. One example comes from the puzzle genre of games. The

Visualization of the Dynamics of translation in live cells
Translation is a very important step in the process of gene expression. Even though
it is a very important step, little is known about it. It is a challenge to study the
translation of gene expression due to the limited time of chromosome maturation. In
this study the author developed a plan to directly see the translation activity of single
mRNAs in live cells. The author predicts that by using an improved version of
SunTag system he will be able to see the translation. SunTag is a proteinscaffold
which makes multiple copies of single cells that enables imaging of single protein
molecules in active cells for a long term. As the study continues it becomes interesting
to see the different observations the author gets by using different versions of SunTag.
As the author approaches the study using the SunTag system he gets to see the
translation of mRNAs in live cells at the level of single molecules. The method he
used were traditional cloning techniques, and gene synthesis techniques to help
improve the sensitivity of the SunTan system. The original SunTag has 24 repetitions
of peptide epitope, so to improve the system he generated 32 new epitopes, and
combined them two together. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Equality Expectations And Envy By Alain De Botton

Equality, Expectations and Envy In chapter two of Status Anxiety, Equality,
Expectations and Envy , Alain de Botton explains to readers that perturbation about
self image is caused by feelings of inadequacy, which are usually self inflicted. Envy
occurs when a person compares themselves to the people around them. Botton
contends, our judgment of what constitutes an appropriate limit . . .on wealth or
esteem is never arrived at independently. . . ;it is formed when a person compares
their surrounding with a reference group (25). People are compelled to do better
because of jealousy and feelings of insufficiency. For hundreds of years, there was the

Even the equal rights revolution in America still didn t prevent the resentment felt
by most. In fact, it made it worse. Tocqueville noticed that when people are set to
the same level, the slightest variation is easily spotted (32). He asserted that, when
people fail to rise to who they think they can be, it causes them to feel self hatred
and underachievement (33). The success stories of others who have risen up from
the dirt do not help the esteem of the people who think what and how much they have
done in life is insignificant (41). William James, looked at the psychology behind the
sociological problems created by expectations. James wrote an equation to
describe self esteem, which is equal to the ratio of success rate to perceptions of
ability. The equation suggests there are two ways to raise self esteem: one, work
harder and achieve more, or two, want to achieve less things (36). Botton s
interpretation of James s ideas signify Rousseau s argument that we may be happy
enough with little if little is what we have come to expect, and we may be miserable
with much if we have been taught to desire everything,

Thousands of people came together to volunteer and show support to surrounding

also something provided because many people had issues still dealing with the

impact on how us as humans saw the world at that moment and changed our own

Although there was an abundance of support the US had to make changes on who

Vestals which was built with great architecture details, The Roman Forum,
Pantheon, and many more is what is left of the great empire. Roman fashion was
unique where men wore a toga which is like wearing a suit today, only wealthy
men wore these. Women wore a stola which was a long, high waisted, tight at the
shoulders with clasps. Boys wore a tonic down to their knees, wealthy boys wore a
toga just like their fathers. Girls wore a tunic with a belt. Roman children wore a
Bulla around their necks, it is given to them when they are just a few days old. All
in all romans had a very exclusive society, although the lives of the rich and the poor
differed yet both had common elements and they both enjoyed their positions until
they started rebelling and from this point Rome was never the
Comparing Mending Wall And Tear Down This Wall
Walls are physical and emotional impediments that separate nature, people, and
societies. Robert Frost s poem Mending Wall and Ronald Reagan s speech Tear
Down This Wall are perfect examples of how unnatural and unnecessary walls are.
They go into detail of how both nature and people despise walls. Walls create
separation, and they also effect people, countries, and civilizations. Walls create a
symbol of separation. According to Frost s poem, nature hates walls because they are
are unnatural and detaching. Nature tries to penetrate any walls that may surface, but
people always end up assembling the wallagain, even when it is not needed. Reagan
s speech makes it very clear that walls are wrong, and they should all be destroyed....

Frost writes about how it makes people act completely different and become
hypocritical. People will begin to say one thing but do another. They also separate
people from the rest of humanity. Ronald Reagan describes how he believes that
walls separate people from society, their rights, freedom, and loved ones. As well as
effecting people, walls also impact countries. Walls also have a large influence on
countries. Although Frost does not address the effect of walls on countries in his
speech, Reagan s purpose of his poem is to describe the effect that the Berlin Wall
has on the country of Germany. It separates East and West Berlin and also creates a
huge gash in Germany, which displays how violent the concept of walls and
separation really are. While creating division between countries, walls also impact
civilizations. Walls create separation among civilizations that is undesired and
inessential. Robert Frost s poem does not speak on the influence walls have on
civilizations;however, Ronald Reagan preaches how the Berlin Wall divides the
entire continent of Europe into free and communist. He describes how the wall is a
symbol of totalitarianism and is also symbolic to the brutal division of the
The True Meaning Of Muhammad Ali s 2012 Trainer
The recent passing of Muhammad Ali has sparked much discussion and reflection on
one of America s greatest sons. In and out of the ring, Ali was a game changer. He
was such an impactful influence that thousands, including world leaders, are expected
in attendance for his memorial service on Friday in Louisville, Kentucky.
Everyone knows the middle and end of The Greatest of All Time saga. But how
many of us actually know the beginning? Ali pundits are quick to name drop Angelo
Dundee, Ali s longtime trainer. How many of them actually know the name Joe E.

Netflix Technological Advancements
Technological advancements in the television industry over the past decades have
changed the way people watch movies and television. The first successful movie
rental store that allowed people to watch in the comfort of their home was
Blockbuster in 1985 (Kaplan 2011). Netflix re invented the movie rental industry
in 1999 becoming more personalised and less of a linear TV experiences. (Kaplan
2011; Netflix s View 2015) Consumers are now able to download or stream movies
via the Internet and watch on any compatible device (TV, computer, mobiles, etc.)
due to these technological advancements. This essay analyses the outcomes of
Blockbuster and Netflix by assessing their effectiveness to plan, organise, lead, and
control (Waddell, Jones and George 2013, 7).
Planning is an essential function to predict and prepare for any current and future
advancement with goals to achieve (Anyim, Mba and Ekwoaba 2012, 56). The
process of planning consists of three elements; deciding the organisational goals to
attain, the strategies, and how to allocate the organisational resources to attain these
goals (Waddell, Jones, and George 2011, 7).
Netflix has been able to maintain their organisational goal of innovation by creating
flexible programs, catering to consumer wants and needs, and continually keeping a
global competitive advantage (Liu, Magjuka and Lee 2008, 77). Netflix has planned
effectively as potential target markets would have been researched and finding of the

Is Congress Powerless to combat Police Brutality?

Purpose of the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration
In 1967, the President s Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of
Justice called for a revolution in the approach to crime. As a result, the commission
developed seven specific goals that are relevant in the twenty first century: prevent
crimes, adopt new ways of dealing with offenders, eliminate injustice and unfairness,
upgrade personnel, conduct research to find new and effective ways to control crime,
appropriate the necessary funds to accomplish the goals, and involve all elements of

There seem to be no signs of addressing the open season of human hunting, nor any
amendments to the limits of dead bodies per officer. What there seems to be is a
defiance towards the do prevalence of police brutality and the granting of video
cameras to law enforcement? The financial authority of congress to the
administration seemly has enough support to demise brutal reporting by settling
prior to the incident becoming a statistical reporting. Why does there seems to be
enough votes to cover up an unfortunate confrontation between the federal, state, and
local police? And enough funding to articulate the restoration of an ancient bill/law
to defend the brutal murders by law enforcers. Congress has been given the
authority to investigate such reporting by the police administrative grant funding to
demise these accusations at a local, state and federal level. Several theories are
apparent, but one in particular stands out. Does the federal, State and Local prison
over populations has anything to do with the decisions law enforcement are making?
I seem that overpopulation of federal prisons are concerns of the federal
government. Since the orders for local government stems down from the federal
government. Could it be that the federal government and congress refuse to address
the do prevalence of police brutality? Perhaps the reason congress does
Power of Love in Othello and Pride and Prejudice
Compare and contrast how Shakespeare and Austen present the power of love in
Othello and Pride and Prejudice.
In order for love to be true it must come from both sides equally. Its power will not
be strong enough to overcome all obstacles if its foundation is not pure. In Pride and
Prejudice, Austen paints a portrait of the power of love as merely unbreakable
whereas Shakespeare arguably portrays it as weak and vulnerable.
Both Shakespeare and Austen use dialogue as a tool for the construction of their
characters. Although Austen relies on narration as well as speech, Shakespeare relies
completely on speech as Othello is a play. Arguably, before the moor arrives in the
play, he is described as an old black rum by the malicious ... Show more content on

With most characters in Austen s novel, they often tend to give a different
impression of themselves from the one they intended; a type of irony present in
Austen s novel. An illustration of this is Mrs Bennett, who adopts a sentence
structure which is long and rambling, portraying her as a woman of mean
understanding, little information and uncertain temper (pg 7). The use of the triple
syntactical structure by the narrator is forcing this painted portrait of Mrs Bennett s
character on the reader, and therefore right from chapter one this is how we think of
her till the very end of the book. The phrase little information could also reflect on
her moral status in the novel. Due to her little information , Mrs Bennett usually
talks about inappropriate or unnecessary subject matters. For example, during
chapter 9, Mrs Bennett s states she dine with four and twenty families (pg 43). This
choice of subject matter is firstly unnecessary and inappropriate constructing her as
narrow minded. Additionally, not being able to speak appropriately is punished by
receiving a lower moral status in the novel than those who are able to such as the
Gardiners. Could

Argumentative Essay On Yoga Man
It has become common today to dismiss yoga because of the label that it is just for
young, skinny, flexible, females. The truth is, yoga can be for anyone. To illustrate,
according to the article Yoga: It s a Guy Thing by Alan Crawford (2002), yoga is
becoming more and more popular amongst men (p. 69). In fact, a report by the Yoga
Journal claims that 17 percent of all yogis are men as of 2013, and that number
continues to grow as yoga is becoming trendier for both men and women. I
understand that yoga has its setbacks for men. To make clear, Gregoire s article in
the Huffington Post talks about how many men feel intimidated by doing yoga
because of the flexibility needed for some yoga poses and the fact that there are
mostly women in the room. Moreover, men s delicate egos can be damaged if they
were to do yoga (Gregoire, 2013). I can empathize with men that yoga would
possibly be harder for them to do and it could hurt their self pride; however, the fact
cannot be hid that yoga can and should be for everyone, regardless of sex.
Not to mention, it can safely be said that many men are finding their egos to be just
fine after yoga. Yoga Man tells the story of Eddie George and his yoga experience.
Edward (Eddie) George, a famous Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys football
player who won the Heisman trophy, felt slightly uncomfortable walking into a yoga
studio. After all, a 235 pound, 6 3 African American man is not what many would
consider the standard yogi. Even he, himself stated that the perception was that it
was a girl thing. However, later in the article, he said, If you re comfortable with
yourself, it shouldn t matter if a class is all guys or if you re the only guy. Yoga s
just good for you (Altobelli Kennedy, 2004, p. 63). It is incredible that George put
his pride and embarrassment aside because George realized that the benefits that he
received from yoga outweighed the expenditure of shame and humiliation. Eddie
broke the label of only skinny, young, white girls do yoga, and I believe that others
should follow in his footsteps. Not only that, what man would not want to spend time
in a room filled with girls in tight pants?
In addition, I understand that it can be hard
Romeo And Juliet Deaths
Romeo and Juliet, the Shakespearean playwright of two star crossed lovers, ends in
two tragic deaths of both Romeo and Juliet. Who can be hold responsible for their
deaths, when so many things went wrong along the way? Many could be held
responsible for the deaths of the two lovers, but Romeo himself deserves to carry
the heavier load of responsible for not only his death, but the death of his lover,
Juliet as well. The young boy s acts of irresponsibility, impulse, belligerence,
immaturity, and streak of bad decisions only brought definite consequences to both
himself and Juliet. As the story of Romeo and Juliet further progresses, Romeo s
true character becomes more and more apparent; he seems to act solely by
impulse. Romeo acts moreso with his emotions, and sudden thoughts than his
brain which stores reason and logic. This causes for tragedy and unfortunate
circumstance by the end of the poem. This shows how impulsive he is in most of
his decisions and how he tends to be very dramatic in everything that he does.
When Romeo discovers that Juliet is dead, he almost immediately dramatically
decides to drink poison, to kill himself. Here s to love, O true apothecary, thy drugs
are quick thus with a kiss I die. Which shows how quickly he makes wrash and
dramatic decisions without thinking it through. If Romeo had not been so careless
and impulsive in his decision, Juliet would have awoken and they would both still
be alive. Romeo is also extremely short tempered and belligerent. Often, Romeo
resorts to violence when conflict occurs, he is quick to act out of rage. This goes
hand in hand with how impulsive and irresponsible he is, which further supports
that he was responsible for him and Juliet s death. Romeo kills Paris out of rage and
fury, as violence has become a natural instinct or reaction for him. Romeo killed
Tybalt as well, over a simple joke. That is two lives that Romeo himself his
responsible for taking, is it hard to believe he could be responsible for his own as
well as Juliet s, due to what we ve seen him capable of over the course of the story. O,
I am slain if thou be merciful open the tomb lay me with Juliet. Romeo seems to be
careless of any consequences he may face due to his
The Civil Rights Movement Of America
America has experienced many periods in history that shape the social system we
have today. Many of our adopted attitudes and beliefs have outlined our present
and nearing future into a more liberal society. Following World War II, America
was placed on a pedestal admired by the world around it for success during the post
war period. America had more internal damage that was not reflective of the values
the country was set on. Entering the post War period, a group of college students
advocated for domestic change writing a manifesto popularly known as the Port
Huron Statement on June 15 of 1962. Students desired change and became active in
the Civil RightsMovement in hopes to change the attitudes of the citizens in America.
The Port Huron Statement reflected ideas of these newly conscious middle American
youth, increased Civil right activism, and created the New Left in regards to form a
more democratic society. The conscious youth yearned for a more favorable
democracy. Students were actively striving to create dialogue to urge everyone to
be more aware of the climate that exists. Born again Middle American, were the
words of Tom Hayden, former activist of the New Left, and author of the Port Huron
Statement. Shifting from ideals of a former left society into a new more liberal and
optimistic system changed the perceptions the new left had. In hopes to be the last
generation in the experiment of living, they wanted everyone to be made a part of the
majority
Danger And Cleanup Of Orbital Debris
Danger And Cleanup Of Orbital Debris Orbital debris, which are different than
space debri, pose a threat to space missions and astronauts. Manny previous
missions have left orbital debris in their wake. Most of the debris are left up there
until they are pulled toward earth by gravity and then destroyed by earth s
atmosphere. Until then the space junk is left to orbit around the earth. The amount
of debri continues to grow quicker than the earth can destroy it. Leaving the debri
to sit up there unchecked poses dangers for astronauts and space missions both
current and future. There are several solutions that scientists have come up with
that could help reduce the danger of space debris. Orbital debris are specifically
the man made objects that follow a path of orbit around the earth (NASA, 2013).
Orbital debris differ from satellites in that they no longer serve a working purpose,
making them essentially space junk (NASA, 2013). Orbital debris can sometimes be
confused with space debris. The term space debris encompases anyting that is
wandering about space or orbiting around something like the sun, manmade or not
(NASA, 2013). Things like meteorites and man made objects that are not in orbit
around earth (NASA, 2013). While orbital debris only includes man made, unusefull
things, that are in orbit around the earth (NASA, 2013). The orbital space junk can
wind up floating around the earth in a couple of different ways. One of the most
common ways that it can get up there
The Measurement Of Team Success
So what is the measurement of team success in professional sports? Is it number of
wins? Is it the number of division titles or championships? Or is it the number of
sellouts or amount of team revenue? Whatever it may be, the types of players you
have on your team is important to reach any level of success. So how much money
should a team spend on their players? Salaries of professional sports players are way
higher that the average person. Lately, salaries of players in the National Basketball
Associationare increasing year after year. Even with a salary cap, teams can now
spend more money on highly gifted athletes in hopes to bring division titles and
championships to their respective organizations. So does spending more money
on player salaries guarantee a winning team? Now you could go into free agency,
and sign some of the biggest stars in all of basketball and think to yourself that you
will be poised for a shot at a championship that year. However, just because you pay
a top tier player, it doesn t guarantee that they will stay healthy. There are many
outlying factors to a player s performance. From the research I have found, the
results are mixed regarding the relationship between team salary and performance. If
an NBA team spends more money on player salaries, this does not guarantee a better
team performance. In 2013, an article on basesandbaskets.com compared NBA team
salaries to their regular season wins totals. This study found that it was about split,

Crafting a well-informed and insightful essay involves delving into various aspects, such as pedagogical methods, learner engagement, and the intricacies of designing effective assessments. One of the challenges is the need to strike a balance between theoretical frameworks and real- world application. The essay should not only showcase theoretical knowledge but also demonstrate how these concepts translate into practical scenarios. • 2. The Birdman Of Alcatraz, By Aka Robert Stroud While you may have heard of, The Birdman of Alcatraz, aka Robert Stroud, another popular Alcatraz inmate. He was probably the most famous inmate to reside on Alcatraz. In 1909, Stroud brutally murdered a bartender when he failed to pay the girl Stroud was pimping for. He shot the bartender to death and took the wallet for the prostitute. Stroud was convicted of manslaughter and sent to McNeil Island in 1911. At McNeil Island, he was noted to be violent and difficult to manage. Robert Stroud viciously assaulted a hospital orderly and even stabbed a fellow inmate. As a result of his hostility, he was sentenced an additional six months. Stroud was moved to Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary in Kansas because of overcrowding and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, Robert Stroud was never to able to see the move of himself, Birdman of Alcatraz, by Burt Lancaster. The movie portrayed Robert with a more calm personality, the opposite of his actual behavior. (Alcatraz History: Famous Inmates) Everyone knows how hard it would have been to escape Alcatraz and live, so escape attempts were rarely rewarding. Alcatraz was open for twenty nine years and only had fourteen escape attempts with thirty six involved prisoners overall. No attempts were considered successful. One prisoner actually made it to San Francisco, but was promptly arrested and returned. Two inmates drowned in the bay and six were shot dead during their attempts. Twenty three were captured and returned, but five were never found. Prisoner officials say the five prisoners must have also drowned. The first escape attempt was made in April, 1936, by Joseph Bowers, prisoner 210. He was shot and killed. The Battle of Alcatraz is considered one of the bloodiest escape attempts in the history of Alcatraz. It s also known as the Alcatraz Blast Out . On May 2, 1946, six prisoners tried to take control of the main building. They were able to overpower the guards and the battle lasted two days. Two officers were killed and many others had several injuries. Three out of the six prisoners who attempted to escape died in battle. Finally, on May 4, reinforcements came and took control. The living three inmates went on trial for the murders
  • 3. The Amendment And The Rights Amendment Possibly the most conversational amendment to every make it s way through the Senate and the House was the Equal Rights Amendment in 1972. The Equal Rights Amendment was, introduced through the twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, and sixties without success (Schneir, 369). Various organizations such as the National Woman s Party (those who proposed it), National Organization for Women, the Women s Department of the United Auto Workers, and many other feminists worked most if not all of their lives to pass this specific amendment. In the early 1970 s, the House approved the amendment by a large ratio of 354 to 23. Additionally, in 1972, the Senate also passed the amendment by another shocking ratio of 84 to 8. Unfortunately, the amendment did not pass by its deadline of June 30th, 1982 by only thirty five states approving it for ratification by at least thirty eight states (Schneir, 370). There were various reasons why the amendment did not pass, and Miriam Schneir discussed several of these in the section Equal Rights Amendmentin the book Feminism in Our Time. Though the Equal Rights Amendment had various dedicated supporters working to pass it, it also had several Anti Equal Rights Amendment working to make sure it DID NOT pass. One key figure in this Anti Equal Rights Amendment was Phyllis Schlafly. Schlafly argued that the passing of the Equal Rights Amendment would cause there to be a boom in the creation of unisex bathrooms. She argued that bathrooms
  • 4. The Carrying Capacity Of A Tourist Resource . The carrying caapacity studies began during the 1930 s (O Reilly, 1986; Saveriades, 2000), they were principally developed in the 1960 s in the national parks of the United States of America (McCool and Lime, 2001; Manning et al., 2002).The carrying capacity concept is essentially a decision making framework informed by the regular measurement of agreed indicators of quality. The concept of carrying capacity was derived in the early 1960 s from range management and was applied to tourism and hospitality management. It was concluded that carrying capacity is not just one single notion but an amalgamation of four different carrying capacities which are namely physical, Ecological psychological and Economical. Ecological carrying capacity relates to the maximum use of a tourist resource without causing any harm to the environment. Social carrying capacity relates to the reaction of the local people to the tourist development of the place, which should never be negative, Psychological carrying capacity relates to the quality of visitors satisfaction with a certain tourist destination, which is not to be decreased; Economic carrying capacity relates to the level of acceptable dependence between the local economy and the level of the tourist development of a place, which should never become too heavy The carrying capacity of any tourist destination, whether it be an historic building, a beach or a dive site, is not a single figure that can be calculated and fixed. A Headbanger s Roots Canchola 1 ReynaLinda Canchola McConkey English 101 28 September 2016 A Headbanger s Roots To those who have not been exposed to other genres besides mainstream music, I am hoping to give you some insight on a headbanger s roots. With new metal bands popping up in local cities, it s important to understand the history behind the genre. Like every other genre, heavy metal can be traced back to it s roots, to the moment where everything changed and turned into something that will continue to affect people for years to come. It caused an uproar first in England, and then spread like wildfire to all four corners of the world. Heavy metal was a musical revolution that brought together diverse groups of people while influencing new genres, ideas, and lifestyles worldwide Heavy metal was created in the late 1960 s. One of the most influential bands in this genre was, and continues to be, Black Sabbath. This band paved the way for hundreds of subgenres after their time. Black Sabbath originated in Birmingham, England where Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Lommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward formed a band originally named The Polka Tulk Blues Band. Around this time, their town was going through an economic depression where unemployment was rising and working class factories were being shut down. Because of their angst, they filled their songs with horror inspired lyrics, political corruption, the dangers of drug
  • 6. Examples Of Affordable Housing Problems In Vancouver Affordable housing problem in Vancouver Context Vancouver is a major city in the province of British Columbia, Canada. The housing crisis has plagued its residents, governments, organisations, and the community as a whole. The issues faced by the city of Vancouver is not about having enough houses to accommodate residents, but primarily around affordability. Around twenty percent of Canadian renters face a housing crisis, spending more than half their income on shelter costs (McMahon, 2015). Canada s affordable housing policy has supported Canadians in homeownership since the 1950s (Canadian Electronic Library [CEL] Canadian Housing and Renewal Association [CHRA], 2009). A series of social housing programs, subsidies were introduced and funded by government agencies. The responsibilities of the program was shared between distinct levels of government, federal, provincial, and municipal (CEL CHRA, 2009). This collaboration was done at a nation wide level to promote affordable housing among communities. According to CEL and CHRA (2009), the status of funds towards affordable housing became uncertain as agreements between governments were set to expire (p. 2). So the government agencies exhausted their resources while tackling the ever rising need for affordable
  • 7. How Did Ernest Hemingway Influenced By Ernest Hemingway From Hemingway s outlandish family, to his principal influencers, it is understood that these are the key inspirations for his triumph in the writing realm. People either adored Hemingway or had a strong hatred for him. Hemingway connects to his writing in a way that no other author of his time period could, which is shown throughout his writing. A substantial part of Hemingway s life was in the war, whether that was fighting or just helping out around the trenches. He did all of these things and still had a longing to travel the world. Hemingway s attitude Hemingway s attitude was a prominent part of him which determined many people s perceptions of him. One bizarre thing about Hemingway was that he didn t want a biography written during his lifetime and hoped that no one would write one until a century after his death. Three years before he died, he wrote in his will that none of his many letters were allowed to ever be published. But in the years since his death, Hemingway has had more written about him than any other American writer in the twentieth century. Hemingway was the kind of guy to tell something like it was. His sentences usually were not too complicated and he encompassed many stories by means of repetition (Adams). Hemingway also had a malevolent side to him. If he thought a women were not likeminded to him, he would threaten to take his own life (Adams). He once boasted of shooting a dog in such a way as to ensure it would take days to bleed to death (Adams). After going through this phase of having a horrid sense of humor, he started to tell everyone what to do. Hemingway had arrived; he saw himself as one of the patriarchs of American literature, young as he was. He began to be everyone s papa, but not often a benevolent one. He

Should employees be required to tolerate some behavior but not another? Today, courts will more likely find an illegal hostile environment present when the workplace includes sexual propositions, pornography, extremely vulgar language, sexual touching, degrading comments, or embarrassing questions or jokes. There are many examples of court cases which back this up. (1) In Hall v. Gus Construction Co., a construction company had hired three woman to work at road construction sites. Male co workers continually subjected these women to verbal sexual abuse. One woman even developed a skin reaction to the sun which the men immediately labeled ?Herpes.? The women often found obscenities written in the dust on their co worker. Male co workers continuously asked the women for sexual favors. IN addition to the verbal abuse, the women were constantly subjected to offensive and unwelcome physical contact. On one occasion, the men help up one of the female employees so that the driver of a truck could touch her. • 11. First Aid for Adults Essay First Aid for Adults For my listening piece I decided to do a talk on first aid for adults. I identified the main characteristics of scripted speech and tried to emulate them in my piece. The key characteristics of instructional speech are that it uses very short, concise sentences to give directions. Long complex sentences can lead to ambiguity and confusion. Instructional speech uses simple, easy to understand vocabulary as complicated wording, jargon and terminology make instructions difficult to understand and may confuse the listener. The points must also be presented in a logical order to make them easy to follow. The audience should be addressed directly, using a fairly personal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my third and fourth drafts, I put the information into even smaller blocks to emphasise the succinct style of writing because I felt that it was still too difficult to follow; so I used more bullet points and used capitals, underlining and italics to emphasise key words and phrases. Also in the graphology of the piece I have used dashes in order to more effectively show where the reader would give a slight pause. An example is in a hundred compressions a minute just under two a second . In the third paragraph in particular, the sentences were too complex so having originally written them as one complex sentence in the pluperfect tense, I broke them down in to one point per sentence and put them in the present tense so that it would be easier to understand. I also changed some of the verbs that were in the present tense into the imperative form because it made the phonology sharper and clearer for the audience to hear. One example is in the sentence After you have returned to the casualty and rechecked their breathing and they are not breathing or if the likely cause of unconsciousness is trauma or drowning and they are not breathing, you now give two rescue breaths . The sentence was much too long and confusing so I changed it to When you return to the casualty re check their breathing. If they are not breathing or if the likely cause

Supreme Court the most commonly know is judicial review, also know as the ability of the Court to announce a Legislative or Executive act in violation of the Constitution, this is not found directly within the text of the Constitution itself. The Court established this doctrine in the case that we researched previously Marbury v. Madison. In this case, the Court had to conclude whether an Act of Congress or the Constitution was the absolute law of the land. The Judiciary Act of 1789 gave the Supreme Court original jurisdiction to issue writs of mandates. A suit was brought under this Act, the Supreme Court recognized that the Constitution did not grant the Court to have original jurisdiction in this case. Because Article VI of the Constitution authorized the Constitution as the Supreme Law of the Land, the Court held that an Act of Congress that is conflicting to the Constitution could not stand. In following cases, the Court also established its authority to strike down state laws found to be in violation of the Constitution. Before the passage of the Fourteenth Amendment, the provisions of the Bill of Rights were only relevant to the federal government. After, the Supreme Court began ruling that all of its provisions were applicable to the states as well. Thus, the Court has the final say over when a right is protected by the Constitution or when a Constitutional right is

  • 19. A Reflection On Public Service As students of Masters of Public Service degrees, it is imperative to develop a holistic and deep understanding of what public service means. Our class discussions have shown us the ambiguity of striking a balance between opposing forces: between intention and outcome, aid and empowerment, intrinsic and extrinsic affirmation, and self interest and altruism. How do we balance these perspectives, when each has its benefits and pitfalls to the success of any project? In determining my own definition of public service, my hope is to elucidate factors that optimize each of these perspectives. In doing so, we can come closer to defining public service in a way that is both operationally useful and ethically guiding. Considering course documents and class discussions, I have defined the phrase as follows: The public is a marginalized body unable or unexpected to monetarily repay servants for provided goods. Service is an act that results in improved quality of life as reported by receiving individuals. Therefore public service is defined by (1) actions resulting (2) in goods that improve quality of life (3) as reported by marginalized recipients (4) who are unable or unexpected to monetarily repay the servant. By fragmenting the definition into four parts, I can address the issues of intention versus outcome, aid versus empowerment, intrinsic versus extrinsic affirmation, and self interest versus altruism in public service. Applying the Formula of Universal Law

In order to control them, the Lord set, what would become, a long line of judges, or chieftains. The duties of these men were to follow the word of the Lord, and to entrust the word of G d into their followers. Their first judge was Othniel the Kenizzite, and in the case of Othniel, the spirit of the Lord descended upon him and he became Israel s chieftain. (Judges. 3:9 10). By the rule of this man, the Israeliteswent to war, won, and the land had peace for forty years. (Judges. 3:11). This man was loyal, strong, and proactive in his duties to protect and maintain peace in his land. The next judge was Ehud, who was sent by the Lord to kill King Eglon of Moab, who the Lord had let rule over the Israelites as their punishment for offending Him. This man was not only cynical in the casual murder of Eglon, but also proved extremely loyal to the Lord. He then went on to slay over 10,000 Moabites, which made his land tranquil for eighty years. (Judges. 3:30). After the death of Ehud, the Israelites again angered the Lord, and he made them suffer for twenty years at the hands of King Jabin of Canaan. Following their cries, the Lord appointed Deborah. She fearlessly led 10,000 men up Mount Tabor, in pursue of defeating Jabin s army commander, and, much like Ehud, cynically murdered the man while he slept trusting next to her. While the list

Personal Goals And Abilities Of A Social Enterprise According to (Young, 2008) A social enterprise is thought to be something new and something distinct from classical business and traditional non profit activity, combining at different extents elements of the social purpose, the market orientation and financial performance standards of business . When looking at starting up a social enterprise there are important points that need to be looked at the help ensure the enterprise is successful. Firstly before the start up of a social or technological enterprise there are issues that have to be assessed, these are personal goals and abilities, resource availability and opportunity (Schaper, Volery, Weber Gibson, 2014). The personal goals and abilities of a social enterprise are to address social and environmental problems, mostly looking at the root of a market, also aiming for the majority of profits to be reinvested back into the enterprise this will increase social purpose. A standard enterprise is usually more concerned in earning profits for the shareholders and owners (Social Enterprise UK, 2012). Resource availability is another issue that has to be assessed before starting a social enterprise, more specifically entry costs and exit costs. In New Zealand the social finance sector is significantly under developed and as a result of this it makes social enterprise start up very difficult, therefore initial financing has to come from New Zealanders own personal pockets until some sort of funding is found (Schaper,

Many people believe that it is a bad influence, but there is also evidence that games can have positive effects on a person s health. Many studies have been done into the topic of the effects of video games on a person. The findings show that video games have a positive effect on a person s mental and social health and have many unrelated health benefits. The biggest type of health that video games affect is a person s mental and emotional health. Studies show that video games have positive effects on mental health. In the study Is Time Spent Playing Video Games Associated with Mental health, Cognitive and Social Skills in Young Children? it was found that video games have positive effects on mental health. Viviane Kowess Masfety et al. say The results of the present study suggest that video game use is not associated with an increased risk of mental health problems. On the contrary, the data presented here suggest that video games are a protective factor (356). Isabela Granic et al. discusses the effects video games have on emotions and mood and how these affect mental health. They say, Several studies have shown a causal relation between playing preferred video games and improved mood or increases in positive emotion (71). The improvement to mood and emotions can have many positive effects to mental health. One example comes from the puzzle genre of games. The

Even though it is a very important step, little is known about it. It is a challenge to study the translation of gene expression due to the limited time of chromosome maturation. In this study the author developed a plan to directly see the translation activity of single mRNAs in live cells. The author predicts that by using an improved version of SunTag system he will be able to see the translation. SunTag is a proteinscaffold which makes multiple copies of single cells that enables imaging of single protein molecules in active cells for a long term. As the study continues it becomes interesting to see the different observations the author gets by using different versions of SunTag. As the author approaches the study using the SunTag system he gets to see the translation of mRNAs in live cells at the level of single molecules. The method he used were traditional cloning techniques, and gene synthesis techniques to help improve the sensitivity of the SunTan system. Envy occurs when a person compares themselves to the people around them. Botton contends, our judgment of what constitutes an appropriate limit . . .on wealth or esteem is never arrived at independently. . . ;it is formed when a person compares their surrounding with a reference group (25). Even the equal rights revolution in America still didn t prevent the resentment felt by most. In fact, it made it worse. Tocqueville noticed that when people are set to the same level, the slightest variation is easily spotted (32). The success stories of others who have risen up from the dirt do not help the esteem of the people who think what and how much they have done in life is insignificant (41). William James, looked at the psychology behind the sociological problems created by expectations. James wrote an equation to describe self esteem, which is equal to the ratio of success rate to perceptions of ability. The equation suggests there are two ways to raise self esteem: one, work harder and achieve more, or two, want to achieve less things (36). Botton s interpretation of James s ideas signify Rousseau s argument that we may be happy enough with little if little is what we have come to expect, and we may be miserable with much if we have been taught to desire everything,

  • 46. Argumentative Essay On Yoga Man It has become common today to dismiss yoga because of the label that it is just for young, skinny, flexible, females. The truth is, yoga can be for anyone. To illustrate, according to the article Yoga: It s a Guy Thing by Alan Crawford (2002), yoga is becoming more and more popular amongst men (p. 69). In fact, a report by the Yoga Journal claims that 17 percent of all yogis are men as of 2013, and that number continues to grow as yoga is becoming trendier for both men and women. I understand that yoga has its setbacks for men. To make clear, Gregoire s article in the Huffington Post talks about how many men feel intimidated by doing yoga because of the flexibility needed for some yoga poses and the fact that there are mostly women in the room. Moreover, men s delicate egos can be damaged if they were to do yoga (Gregoire, 2013). I can empathize with men that yoga would possibly be harder for them to do and it could hurt their self pride; however, the fact cannot be hid that yoga can and should be for everyone, regardless of sex. Not to mention, it can safely be said that many men are finding their egos to be just fine after yoga. Yoga Man tells the story of Eddie George and his yoga experience. Edward (Eddie) George, a famous Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys football player who won the Heisman trophy, felt slightly uncomfortable walking into a yoga studio. After all, a 235 pound, 6 3 African American man is not what many would consider the standard yogi. Even he, himself stated that the perception was that it was a girl thing. However, later in the article, he said, If you re comfortable with yourself, it shouldn t matter if a class is all guys or if you re the only guy. Yoga s just good for you (Altobelli Kennedy, 2004, p. 63). It is incredible that George put his pride and embarrassment aside because George realized that the benefits that he received from yoga outweighed the expenditure of shame and humiliation. Eddie broke the label of only skinny, young, white girls do yoga, and I believe that others should follow in his footsteps. Not only that, what man would not want to spend time in a room filled with girls in tight pants? In addition, I understand that it can be hard
  • 47. Romeo And Juliet Deaths Romeo and Juliet, the Shakespearean playwright of two star crossed lovers, ends in two tragic deaths of both Romeo and Juliet. Who can be hold responsible for their deaths, when so many things went wrong along the way? Many could be held responsible for the deaths of the two lovers, but Romeo himself deserves to carry the heavier load of responsible for not only his death, but the death of his lover, Juliet as well. The young boy s acts of irresponsibility, impulse, belligerence, immaturity, and streak of bad decisions only brought definite consequences to both himself and Juliet. As the story of Romeo and Juliet further progresses, Romeo s true character becomes more and more apparent; he seems to act solely by impulse. Romeo acts moreso with his emotions, and sudden thoughts than his brain which stores reason and logic. This causes for tragedy and unfortunate circumstance by the end of the poem. This shows how impulsive he is in most of his decisions and how he tends to be very dramatic in everything that he does. When Romeo discovers that Juliet is dead, he almost immediately dramatically decides to drink poison, to kill himself. Here s to love, O true apothecary, thy drugs are quick thus with a kiss I die. Which shows how quickly he makes wrash and dramatic decisions without thinking it through. If Romeo had not been so careless and impulsive in his decision, Juliet would have awoken and they would both still be alive. Romeo is also extremely short tempered and belligerent. Often, Romeo resorts to violence when conflict occurs, he is quick to act out of rage. This goes hand in hand with how impulsive and irresponsible he is, which further supports that he was responsible for him and Juliet s death. Romeo kills Paris out of rage and fury, as violence has become a natural instinct or reaction for him. Romeo killed Tybalt as well, over a simple joke. That is two lives that Romeo himself his responsible for taking, is it hard to believe he could be responsible for his own as well as Juliet s, due to what we ve seen him capable of over the course of the story. O, I am slain if thou be merciful open the tomb lay me with Juliet. Romeo seems to be careless of any consequences he may face due to his

Until then the space junk is left to orbit around the earth. The amount of debri continues to grow quicker than the earth can destroy it. Leaving the debri to sit up there unchecked poses dangers for astronauts and space missions both current and future. Or is it the number of sellouts or amount of team revenue? Whatever it may be, the types of players you have on your team is important to reach any level of success. So how much money should a team spend on their players? Salaries of professional sports players are way higher that the average person. Lately, salaries of players in the National Basketball Associationare increasing year after year.
