What is SIPOC?
 SIPOC is a methodology used in process management and improvement.
 SIPOC is a technique for accurately describing the transformation process within a firm that provides
goods and services.
 It is a tool for process improvement that summarizes the inputs and outputs of a single or several
processes in tables:
The acronym SIPOC stands for these five components:
1. S = Supplier
2. I = Inputs
3. P = Process
4. O = Outputs
5. C= Customers

The acronym SIPOC stands for these five
components:
Suppliers:
The input sources for the process.
Inputs:
The resources we need for the process to function.
It may be in the form of resources, material,
equipment, services or information.
What are the elements of SIPOC?
Process:
How inputs are transformed into outputs to satisfy a
customer's need.
Outputs:
The results of the process. may be materials, services
or information.
Customers:
The people who receive outputs or benefit from the
process. They may be internal or external to the
organization

What is a SIPOC diagram?
 A SIPOC diagram is a visual process mapping.
 A SIPOC diagram provides a high-level view of a process by documenting its suppliers, inputs,
process, outputs, and customers.
 It’s a process map that shows how the project goals will be completed.
 It visualizes how everyone in the process receives materials or data from each other, and is often used
to improve or understand processes that impact customer experience.
How to create a SIPOC diagram
There are many approaches to make SIPOC, but the general rule is to start with the process step.
1. Choose/Select a process:
The first step is to choose a business process that would
benefit from charting in a SIPOC diagram. Let us take an
example of making A Cup of Tea
2. Define the process:
The diagram starts with the “P” section, which is usually an
overview of the business process. This could include the
starting and ending points for the process or a simple
flowchart. If your process is long and contains many different
steps, try to group batches of smaller steps together
How to create a SIPOC diagram
3. List the outputs:
Identify the outputs of the process. This helps you understand
what you get from the resources you invest in the process, and
what customers are actually receiving. Outputs can be things like
materials, products, services or information.
4. Identify the customers:
Customers are the people who receive the outputs or benefit from
the process. Keep in mind that customers don’t have to be
external they can also include co-workers and internal
stakeholders.
How to create a SIPOC diagram
5. List the inputs:
Inputs are the resources you need for the process to
function properly. Similar to outputs, these can be things
like materials, products, services, or information.
6. Identify suppliers:
Suppliers are where you get each of the inputs of the
process. This step helps you understand how many
suppliers you’re working with and whether you’re
managing them in the most efficient way. A supplier is
anyone that has a direct impact on the outputs.
How to create a SIPOC diagram
7. Share your diagram:
Once the diagram is complete, it should be shared
with any relevant stakeholders and validated
before moving along with the process. That
means to get the full benefit of your SIPOC map,
you should not only share it, but also make sure
it’s easily accessible.
Benefits of a SIPOC diagram
Below are some of the key benefits of SIPOC
 Is easy to understand and use
 Shows clearly where the process starts and ends
 Helps to identify Strength, weakness, threats and opportunities in the process
 Can help you clarify the main steps in a process
 This helps to clarify input and output requirements.
 Can be used as a training tool for newer employees.
 Helps with problem-solving initiatives.
 Helps to identify whole process in a go
 Ensures all team members are on the same page.
Disadvantages of SIPOC?
The SIPOC model only effectively depicts high-level processes.
 First, SIPOC diagrams may not be enough for resolving process concerns.
 Second, SIPOC is a straightforward method for process mapping.
 Third, the SIPOC model works best when combined with other tools.

What is SIPOC?  SIPOC is a methodology used in process management and improvement.  SIPOC is a technique for accurately describing the transformation process within a firm that provides goods and services.  It is a tool for process improvement that summarizes the inputs and outputs of a single or several processes in tables:
  • 5. The acronym SIPOC stands for these five components: 1. S = Supplier 2. I = Inputs 3. P = Process 4. O = Outputs 5. C= Customers What are the elements of SIPOC?
  • 6. The acronym SIPOC stands for these five components: Suppliers: The input sources for the process. Inputs: The resources we need for the process to function. It may be in the form of resources, material, equipment, services or information. What are the elements of SIPOC?
  • 7. Process: How inputs are transformed into outputs to satisfy a customer's need. Outputs: The results of the process. may be materials, services or information. Customers: The people who receive outputs or benefit from the process. They may be internal or external to the organization What are the elements of SIPOC?
  • 8. What is a SIPOC diagram?  A SIPOC diagram is a visual process mapping.  A SIPOC diagram provides a high-level view of a process by documenting its suppliers, inputs, process, outputs, and customers.  It’s a process map that shows how the project goals will be completed.  It visualizes how everyone in the process receives materials or data from each other, and is often used to improve or understand processes that impact customer experience.
  • 9. How to create a SIPOC diagram There are many approaches to make SIPOC, but the general rule is to start with the process step. 1. Choose/Select a process: The first step is to choose a business process that would benefit from charting in a SIPOC diagram. Let us take an example of making A Cup of Tea 2. Define the process: The diagram starts with the “P” section, which is usually an overview of the business process. This could include the starting and ending points for the process or a simple flowchart. If your process is long and contains many different steps, try to group batches of smaller steps together
  • 10. How to create a SIPOC diagram 3. List the outputs: Identify the outputs of the process. This helps you understand what you get from the resources you invest in the process, and what customers are actually receiving. Outputs can be things like materials, products, services or information. 4. Identify the customers: Customers are the people who receive the outputs or benefit from the process. Keep in mind that customers don’t have to be external they can also include co-workers and internal stakeholders.
  • 11. How to create a SIPOC diagram 5. List the inputs: Inputs are the resources you need for the process to function properly. Similar to outputs, these can be things like materials, products, services, or information. 6. Identify suppliers: Suppliers are where you get each of the inputs of the process. This step helps you understand how many suppliers you’re working with and whether you’re managing them in the most efficient way. A supplier is anyone that has a direct impact on the outputs.
  • 12. How to create a SIPOC diagram 7. Share your diagram: Once the diagram is complete, it should be shared with any relevant stakeholders and validated before moving along with the process. That means to get the full benefit of your SIPOC map, you should not only share it, but also make sure it’s easily accessible.
  • 13. Benefits of a SIPOC diagram Below are some of the key benefits of SIPOC  Is easy to understand and use  Shows clearly where the process starts and ends  Helps to identify Strength, weakness, threats and opportunities in the process  Can help you clarify the main steps in a process  This helps to clarify input and output requirements.  Can be used as a training tool for newer employees.  Helps with problem-solving initiatives.  Helps to identify whole process in a go  Ensures all team members are on the same page.
  • 14. Disadvantages of SIPOC? The SIPOC model only effectively depicts high-level processes.  First, SIPOC diagrams may not be enough for resolving process concerns.  Second, SIPOC is a straightforward method for process mapping.  Third, the SIPOC model works best when combined with other tools.
