The simple past tense expresses actions that occurred in the past, including actions that happened once, never, or repeatedly, as well as actions that followed one another or occurred within another past action. It is formed by using the past tense of irregular verbs or adding "-ed" to regular verbs. Examples are provided to illustrate expressing a single past action, a series of sequential past actions, and a past action occurring within another past event.
