2. Definition
The Simple Past is a verb tense that is used to describe actions that have
happened in a previous time and that have already finished
The past simple, also known as the simple past, is the verbal tense that is used
in the English language to narrate events that happened at a specific time in
the past. It corresponds in its meaning to the past simple perfect in Spanish.
The past simple usually has temporary expressions that allude to the past, such
as, yesterday, last night / week / month / year / Tuesday, then, When ?, How
long ago ...?, Ago, in 1997, etc.

1. The simple past is used to speak of a
concrete action that began and ended in
the past.

actions in the past.
3. We also use it for repeated or habitual
actions in the past, as the imperfect
Spanish tense is used.
4. We use it for narrations or actions of
periods of long time in the past, like the
imperfect tense Spanish.
5. It is used to speak of generalities or
facts of the past.

In order to form a sentence in past tense we must distinguish two
types: REGULAR VERBS and IRREGULAR VERBS.
In the first case, they form their Simple Past by adding the ED terminus
to the infinitive, while the irregular ones are named because they do
not follow a certain pattern and in this case they must be studied
individually.
