The Matrix And Charlie Angels
Everyone has their own movie preference. There are people who adore the hardcore action and
there are some who prefer the slow paced drama. Many individuals may not like a movie because
of the genre it is in. A genre is a categorization of certain types of movies based upon their style,
form, or content. The genre is a vital component of a filmsince it characterizes which course the
plot line will go and allows to prepare yourself for that film. Movie genre is the term used to
differentiate between various number of films. There are around five fundamental groups that are
big and prevalent i.e. Action, Horror, Comedy, Science fiction. In this essay ,I will be comparing
two films, The Matrixand Charlie Angels. I will discuss the use of cinematography, the genres of
the films, and how effective they are. I will also look at the characters, action, plot ,sound and
atmosphere created, and how these are aimed at each film s target audience.
Charlie s Angels is an action comedy film, which borrows ideas from other well known movies
such as Mission Impossible , James Bond etc. It is not very original or challenging, has a weak
and predictable plot, and is merely an update on the 1970 s television series of the same name.
The film is based on a trio of beautiful women who are hired to retrieve a man and his technology.
They achieve this by working together, using their intelligence, a series of cunning plans, combined
with an impressive display of girl power.

Pestle Analysis of Barclays Plc
PESTEL ANALYSIS OF BARCLAYS PLC
PESTLE analysis is very useful for studying the environment in which a company operates and
accessing external factors influencing the company in the markets it operates. PESTLE is the
acronym for the following categories of investigation: political, economic, sociological,
technological, legal and environmental (Cheverton, 2004; Partridge and Sinclair Hunt, 2006).
Discussing the political factors influencing operation of the banks in the national, local and regional
levels and legislation, it should be mentioned that banks have always been to a certain degree
regulated by the government (Benston, 2000). For example, government determines the fraction of
reserves that a commercial bank should keep with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It may be concluded that the higher the GDP indices are, the greater amounts of money come
through banking system, and the more favourable position Barclays plc would have in a given
country. However, it cannot be stated for sure that South Africa provides better conditions for
Barclay s operation. The economy of the USA proves to be the largest and most of the bank s
transactions are carried out in the UK.
Interest rates in the discussed countries appear to look the following way:
Figure 7: United Kingdom Interest Rate

Figure 8: United States Interest Rate
[pic]
Source: Federal Reserve, 2009
Comparing interest rates in the UK and US, it can be stated that the US Federal Reserve conducts
a zero rate policy. However, it does not imply that loans made in the US are free of charge for
businesses.
Figure 9: South Africa Interest Rate
[pic]
Source: Reserve bank of South Africa, 2009
On the contrary, interest rate in South Africa is rather high. It is not even close to zero level, but
constitutes more than 7%. However, the tendency of fall from the period of summer 2008 may be
observed. At the same time it does not mean that loans will be easier to obtain and that they will be
available.
Speaking about banking industry, the set of socio cultural, technological and ecological factors will
not be excessively significant. Indeed, operating in the global scale, Barclays

Judith Butler Heterosexuality
When analyzing the matters of how sex, gender, race and class are implicated in sexuality, many
questions will arise. Furthermore, race class sex and gender are all separate interconnected
categories that have a colossal influence in the way individuals are viewed, perceived,
acknowledged and accepted in todays society. Many theorists such as Judith Butler, who is known
as one of the most prominent American philosophers and gendertheorists, have developed ideas
that support her views on gender performativity, as well as the social constructions of sex and
gender that govern the people of todays society. As noted in the course text, New Sexuality
Studies, there has been a revolution in the study of sexuality. Sex is today understood as
fundamentally social (NSS, xv). Throughout the exploration of this research essay, following week
six on Heterosexuality , in addition to various sources, this paper will exhibit how... Show more

The course texts and articles used to support this research question will accurately portray that the
underlying problem may not be the privileged status of heterosexuals, but rather societies dualistic
categories that pit groups of people against one another (NSS, 259).
According to Judith Butler, societies that believe in a natural gender order are also organized
around the norm of heterosexuality. Butler argues that heterosexuality is the basis of a culture of
romance, marriage, and family that is enforced by our laws, government, churches schools and
military (NSS, 11). Therefore, through this system of enforced heterosexuality that governs
individuals everyday lives it is comprehensible why societies divide individuals into two gender
types, viewing men and women as the only natural, normal way of living. In the article; How Sex,
Gender and Sexuality Constellations are Constituted in Secondary Schools, written by Deborah

The Black Church
The rise of the Black Church in the southern black community was a time that was difficult and
happy all at the same time, This topic relates to To Kill A Mockingbird because during this time,
in Alabama Tom Robinson was the one accused of rape , and a lot of people voted him to be
guilty. Tom was guilty and some people believed that Tom was not guilty and was not happy, but
most people were happy that he was guilty. So there is a lot of racismgoing on at this time. Some of
the earliest Black Churches date all the way back to the 1700s. Only a few existed for blacks
prior to the Civil War. The first Black Church was in Savannah,Georgia in 1777. Also the first
Black Church was founded by George Lille. Also to go along with the churches... Show more

made them think that we should end all of the whole whites and blacks should be separate. Rev.

After all, if this person made the decision to just let all blacks and whites have the same things.
Also be at the same place at the same time. In To Kill A Mockingbirdit shows me the side really
nobody wants to see, racism. Some characters are not racist at all like Atticus, Scout and Jem.
Atticus teaches his children to treat others with respect and with treat others how they want to be
treated. But others like Bob Ewell is a very racist man. For example, he and a bunch of other
people got together and went to the jail that Tom Robinson was staying in and they wanted to do
some bad things to him. I think that this book taught many people to respect others. It really gets to
the point of how to treat

Analysis Of Dashiell Hammett s The House On Turk Street
Set against the backdrop of San Francisco during the Roaring 1920 s, Dashiell Hammett s The
House on Turk Street invokes classic images of the courageous and hardened crime fighter
enveloped by the ubiquitous reach of organized crime. Mr. Hammett draws inspiration from his
own experiences both as a young man working for the Pinkerton National Detective Agencyand his
time serving in the Army (PBS, 1). The story, a pristine specimen of the hardboileddetective genre,
captures not only the edge of your seat emotions of mystery, but also the grueling realism and
brutality of organized crime. Despite my overwhelmingly positive response to the story, it is not a
flawless work. Mr. Hammett occasionally relies too heavily on seemingly self resolving
circumstances within the storyline, making scenarios too convenient for the characters and leaving
the reader frustrated by the lack of suspense. Also of concern is that, while the periphery characters
are plentifully described and develop harmoniously throughout the story, Mr. Hammett often leaves
the reader yearning for a more profound development of the Continental Op. Beyond these sudden
revolutions and shallow descriptions, The House in Turk Street is a fantastic read that is exciting,
intelligent, and a quintessential piece of American noir fiction. Mr. Hammett begins his story by
introducing a Continental Op (a detective) who had been told that man whom I was hunting lived
in a certain Turk Street block (Hammett, 3). The

PCI Compliance Analysis
There are some people who still insist on paying the old fashioned way, with cash. If you purchase
anything using a credit card, you are most likely aware that thousands of cardholders have had their
data stolen by unethical hackers.
For this reason, there are standards, which businesses that offer credit card payment as an option
must follow. Consumers have the assurance that a business is working to protect their valuable
information by adhering to Payment Card Industry, PCI compliance mandates.
What is PCI Compliance?
All major credit card issuers must adhere to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI
DSS). This is a mandated compliance standard established by the Payment Card Industry Security
Council. This standard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A class 1 PCI compliance rating designates the largest entities, which process over 6 million Visa
or MasterCard transactions over a twelve month period. The classifications and steps required for
PCI compliance drops, as the number of transactions becomes less.
The lowest class level is 4 and is for e commerce businesses with less than 20,000 online purchases
registered and other businesses with less than a million accepted card payments. Small businesses
may be able to satisfy compliance requirements once per year, but most companies benefit from
applying these steps as warranted, part of an ongoing process.
В·Assess the Data System Businesses need to exercise caution will all credit card data. Nothing can
cost a business more profoundly than a breach of consumer financial security. Your business needs
to implement this step in a timely fashion when there is any indication of a potential vulnerability.
В·Remediation Your business needs to either employ an IT professional, or hire the services of one
to fix any vulnerability uncovered by the assessment step. An excellent preventive measure to help
ensure customer card security is erase cardholder information unless that data absolutely needed.
Do not keep consumer cardholder data out of convenience for your business operations; the practice
carries too many consequences if your system is unfortunately compromised. By implementing a
good PCI compliant remediation plan, you can remove a great

Real Me Narrative
Paige Sutherlin Mrs. Coe English 9 12 May 2015 The Real Me My name is Paige and this is the
mask that shows who I really am. It is made up of things that represent me. I chose to keep the
colors and designs simple because I try to keep my life simple and avoid all the drama of high
school that I see everyday. I do not try to hide who I am. I am generally a very private and quiet
person but I have never found an excuse to hide who I am or wear a mask. I try to embrace who I
am. This is meant to give you a better idea of who I really am. I used only two main colors in my
mask because I feel they represent me the best. I used navy blue because that is the color of the

pearls because pearls represent imperfection to me. Most people think that pearls are always
round and perfect but that is very rare. Almost always they are oval or irregularly shaped but by
just looking at them they look perfect and like what everyone expects. To me that is like most
people including myself, they look like nothing is wrong but if you look closer you can see all
the imperfections. Nobody is perfect but most of us like to pretend that we are. In my case I try
to seem like I am always happy and optimistic and sometimes I really am but most of the time I
am just trying to get through the day. I also never try to hide this but most people never notice
because most of the time I am so quiet and shy. In reality if someone were to just ask me I would
tell them exactly what is going on but no one ever asks. The pearl is imperfect just like I am. We

Lake Bellville Essay
The family lived on Lake Bellville in a wood framed house. The slope that led to the lake was not
steep enough to ride a toboggan over the snow. According to the family legend, the house became
warm only in July and August.
Their wood stove heated one room in the two story house. Therefore, three boys slept in the same
bed. As their mother taught them the alphabet, she pointed out that when they slept, they formed an
E, which stood for exemplary trouble.
When the war began in 41, the oldest boy left for the Navy. He was 16 when Pearl Harbor
occurred. He told his father, If you don t sign for me, I ll steal a rowboat and row across the Pacific
to fight.
It was late on Christmas Eve in 43 when the oldest returned to his home town. He was on leave

Plato s Summary Of The Soul-City In The Republic
Plato s analogy of the Soul City in the republic proposes to examine justice at the communal level
instead of at the individual level. He does this due to the complexities that come with the individual.
It is difficult to observe encompassing ideas such as justice through something that is not fully
understood by the individual itself. Comparatively, the political community is created by the
individual which allows for better understanding, making it a better agent for this examination. This
analogy created by Platois of foundational importance for areas of academia where logic plays a
part. This analogy creates 2 important precedents in the field of philosophy. The first is the

He does this in an attempt to identify similarities between justice of the individual and justice of the
community. After some attempts to observe existing cities, Plato realized that the cities which
existed at that time were not fully just, rather they had elements of justice and injustice, making
them inadequate settings to examine. To accurately examine justice in the city, they decide to speak
in the hypothetical and create an ideal city. This imagined city contains unequivocal goodness and
justice. Plato speaks about the virtues that exist in the ideal city: wisdom, courage, moderation, and
justice. These virtues become directly related to the individual. Wisdom is the virtue of the ruler,
courage the virtue of the soldier, moderation the virtue of the producer. This is where the idea of
the soul city analogy starts to come full circle as Plato claims that in order for these virtues to exist
in the city they must exist in the individual with connected virtues. To do this he breaks down the
individual soul into three parts. The intellect connected to wisdom, the spirit connected to courage,

Characteristics Of Aeneas A Hero
Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status
of hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him just as much grief as it
does splendor.
What is a hero? We would like to think that a hero is someone who has achieved some fantastic
goal or status, or maybe someone who has accomplished a great task. Heroes find themselves in
situations of great pressure and act with nobility and grace. Though the main character of Virgil s
Aeneid, Aeneas, is such a person, it is not by his own doing. He encounters situations in which
death is near, in which love, hate, peace, and war come together to cause both good and evil. In
these positions he conducts himself with honor, by going along with what the gods want. Only
then goes on to pave the way for the Roman Empire. His deeds, actions, and leadership would never
have come to be if it were not for the gods. The gods took special interest in Aeneas, causing him
misfortune in some cases, giving him assistance in others. On the whole, the gods constantly
provide perfect opportunities for Aeneas to display his heroism. Without them, Aeneas would not be
the hero he is. This gift does not come without a price, though; he must endure the things heroes
endure to become what they are. Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life,
Aeneas only achieves the status of hero through divine intervention, and this god given position

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is known as a very important idealist in Turkey, which had become an
idol for Turks. One of the most important reasons he was that crucial for Turkey was that him
being a nationalist founder and leader, and the first president of the Turkish Republic. Ataturk was
born in Salonika (then known as the Ottoman Empire), in 1881. The real truth is that, Ataturk, still
being at his young ages, started to think about making reforms for his country and society, and
eventually had reached his goals making Turkey a free and civilized country, by also being the

The transition of a multinational empire to a nation state has happened; therefore, Turkey s national
identity has been established. In the creation of this identity, qualification of individuals as a citizen
has been a crucial point. Ataturk found the path for the public administration by setting a new
democracy which is Republic . Secondly, Populism means being against class differences and
inequalities, and not accepting the individuals, families, classes, and organizations being above one
another. The Republican Revolution also has the characteristic of the social revolution. At first,
including the Swiss civil code, Western laws were applied in Turkey, so, there have been changes

also means that education, culture, and other living areas, being independent of religion. Thus, it
means the freedom of thinking and expressing your thoughts without including religion. In the

Dominance of the Ohio Valley Region Essay
Dominance of the Ohio Valley Region
The Ohio Valley Region was known as the American frontier during the time period from 1760 to
1813. The white expansion into the Ohio Valley Region brought about the decline and the eventual
dissolution of the Native American way of life. The struggles of the French and English in the north
and the westward push of American settlers in the south were met with unified pro nativist
resistance. The individual struggles of three men characterize the turmoil between whites and
Native Americans. Pontiac s war against the English, Tecumseh s organization of a unified Indian

In turn, the French protected the Indians and supplied them with guns, gunpowder, ammunition for
hunting, and with provisions during harsh winters (Hough, xii). This European influence had
radically changed the lives of the Great Lakes tribes. By the time of Pontiac s boyhood, the stone
and bone tools of his people had been replaced by steel axes, knives, and traps (Hough, viii).
In the 1740s, commercial competition between France and Great Britain had intensified, and war
broke out in 1744. Ottawa warriors fought on the side of the French, as they did in all four major
wars from 1689 1763 (Eckert, 127).
British forces under British Commander in chief Sir Jeffrey Amherst swept through the Great
Lakes region, seizing control of most of the French forts by 1760. Amherst was well known to be
arrogant and contemptuous of the Indians. He insisted that the good behavior of the natives should
be bought with fear.
Under British occupation, unrest grew among the tribes (Hough,xii0). Pontiac called a meeting
of Ottawa, Chippewa, Huron, Potawatomi and other Lake tribes. Pontiac was a powerful orator
as well as warrior, and possessed a keen intelligence and skill as a strategist. He spoke to the
council of the wrongs they had suffered under the British and spoke of the Master of Life and his

Double Standards In Our Justice System Essay

Double Standards In Our Justice System The Judicial System has always been something that
interests me, because there are always two sides to a story but you can only support one side
and do your best to make sure it is the one that wins. One reason why I have always had a passion
for the law is because living in Egypt you get to see how corrupt things can get, and I believe this
is part of why I am who I am today, since experiencing this made me become a very confident
person knowing when and how to stand up for myself and not stop until I achieve what I have
aimed for. That being said, I have always believed that the richer you are the more lenient the
judicial system will be with you, in other words if you come from a wealthy family your chances of
getting sentenced to prison are much slimmer than if you are from a poor family. I just recently
started reading a book called The Rich Get Richer and The Poor Get Prison which inspired me to
persuade you why I believe that the way we incarcerate people must change; we need to look
beyond the background they come from, and start sentencing people based on their crimes. Ethan
Couch a Texas teen was sentenced to 10 years of probation by Judge Jean Boyd a State District
Judge after killing four innocent people while driving under the influence of alcohol. His lawyer

This is apparent when Pip narrates: every board upon the way, and every crack in every board,
calling after me, `Stop thief! and `Get up, Mrs Joe! It is due to Mrs Joe that Pip develops a
conscience and as a result she is crucial to his upbringing. Joe builds a solid and amiable
relationship with Pip. Pip depicts him as a mild, good natured, sweet tempered, easy going,
foolish, dear fellow and because of this, and also the fact that they are the only males in the
household, Pip finds him easy to get along with. This can be seen when Joe covers for Pip when
he is late home or when he says ever the best of friends; an t us Pip? Joe is Pip s first and closest
friend who comforts the boy in hard times. However, to Pip, Joe is not just a companion but also
in some ways a paternal and even a maternal figure. Their relationship means that Pip is able to
talk to Joe openly about any subject and therefore Joe has a very positive effect on Pip through
his love. Pip loves Joe for what he is and in his childhood dreams of becoming Joe s apprentice to
become a blacksmith. However, Pip s relationship with Joe begins to change after Pip pays his
frequent visits to Satis House. Pip begins to feel ashamed of Joe because he is illiterate and the
young boy feels that becoming a blacksmith is not the right choice to make. Dickens writes that

Disadvantages Of Free Community College
According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, college tuitions have climbed 1,225% since 1978, and
greatly ascended above the expenses of medical care, shelter and food. With such high tuitions,
some low income families have no way of affording the debt of higher education, and therefore not
looking into sending their high schoolgraduate to college. Instead of making all college free, the
government should liquidate the tuition fee of community college and offer a discounted tuition
for low income families.
By making community college free more financially disadvantaged students would get the
opportunity to heighten their education. Celeste Carruthers, an assistant professor at the University
of Tennessee, mentions: the price of college is a critical piece of information for students who are
unsure about going . She continues, free community college is effective at getting more students
into college, particularly when combined with mentoring . The government could supply the fairly
low tuition cost to all students, without worrying about housing or other living expenses. ... Show

There are two basic kinds of medication for treating asthma:
Control drugs to prevent attacks
Quick relief (rescue) drugs for use during attacks
Each type is described in more detail below.
Long term control drugs for asthma are used to prevent symptoms in people with moderate to
severe asthma. You must take them every day for them to work. Take them even when you feel okay.
Inhaled steroids prevent symptoms by preventing airway swelling. These work very well and are
almost always the first choice.
Long acting beta agonist inhalers also help prevent asthma symptoms. These drugs should be used
together with an inhaled steroid drug. It may be easier to use an inhaler that contains both drugs.
Other control drugs that may be used are:
Leukotriene inhibitors (such as Singulair and Accolate)
Omalizumab (Xolair)
Cromolyn sodium (Intal) or nedocromil sodium (Tilade)

Park And Recreation Workers Policy Analysis
Introduction
There are many workers in the nation, many of whom are working in the public sector amongst
various specialties, though whether they are a productive worker or are motivated enough to be
an effective worker is of question. The policy in mention aims to provide possible solutions to
incentivizing workers to increase their productivity, as well as their wellness during the job and in
their personal life. The policy will affect those already working and those who are seeking public
jobs, for, in the United States, there are approximately 22 million public workers in the nation . On
the other hand, the policy will affect tax payers who vote on how to spend their tax dollars.
Another key to the policy is allowing the organization to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A family friendly organization allows leniency to those with their families and the problems that

The Problem Of Taxation Of International Businesses
The problem of taxation of international businesses was noticed in the 1920s. It was noted that
interaction of domestic tax system of two different countries can result in double taxation and in
such way negatively affect growth of global economy. International laws were introduced in order
to avoid double taxation and support global economy. However nowadays in a much more
globalized economy, such international rules create opportunities to minimize or avoid paying
taxes in both of the countries the business is established. The states that decided to provide such
opportunities are now known as taxhavens

The main difficulty for the policy enforcement agents is that financial havens employ strict
financial secrecy that is hard to overcome, plus some MS are also engaged in the harmful
practices and thus do not support some of the initiatives. Due to these struggles all the EU
agreements regarding tax havens are considered to be rather symbolic in nature. (T. V. Addison,
2008 p.704)
Accordingly the main aim of this study is to evaluate the adequacy of the European initiatives on
fighting tax havens, money laundering and bank secrecy, and the impact of these attacks on the EU
own financial state. This aim will be achieved through explaining the nature of tax havens and
analysing the coherence of the past/current and proposed policies introduced by the EU and other
international bodies like Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development (OECD). The
research will seek to explain the main struggles that the EU is facing in enforcing policies through

recommendations regarding what kind of enforcement powers can be implemented to make the
policies compliant.

This essay will briefly explain the most recent policies proposed by the EU and the OECD .All
these policies have one thing in common: increase transparency of the financial records and

Condominimal Housing In Canada
In Canadian real estate there are three major types of ownership freehold, co operative and
condominimum. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. The owner of each type
is responsible for maintaining the property and following the bylaws.
Condominium is a form of property that can be appied to almost any type of housing. To be an
owner of a condo means to own a unit built inside a condominimum complex. The unit does not
come with the land or any space outside the walls. There are monthly patments to maintain common
areas, such as elevators, stairs, parking lots, carpets, entrances, and recreational facilities. Each

expensive type of property due to the land costs. To be an owner of a detached house means to

responsibility of the owner. The owners pay the monthly bills for water, electricity and heating, as
well as all the other bills. Owners can make changes to their houses, but they must follow local
bylaws. Detached houses provide more space and privacy than other property types.
Co operative ownership can be divided into three categories: townhouse, semi detached house and
duplex/triplex.
Townhouse is a complex of units that are adjoined to each other, share common walls, and are
combined into one building. Usually townhouses consist of 2 3 floors and have a basement.
Townhouses are quite popular, because they are not too expensive and has low maintenance costs.
The price of the townhouse depends on the area, proximity to the subway stations, highways,
universities, business centers and other infrastructure.
Semi detached house is a property attached to another on one side. Owners maintain their own
side, like a detached house. To be an owner of a semi detached home means to own one side of the
property and the land it stands on. Semi detached houses are less expensive than detached houses.

Comparison Of Anne Bradstreet s Memory Of My Dear...
A comparison of Anne Bradstreet s In Memory of My Dear Grandchild Elizabeth Bradstreet and
Edward Taylors Upon Wedlock, and Death of Children. Taylor and Bradstreet have different
relationships to their children in each of their poems. In the poems the writers explain that
death, in some way, is a natural course and compare it with the diverse aspects of nature. Both
Taylor and Bradstreet attempt to reunite the faith they have in God even when they suffer the
loss of a child. These poems seem very similar just by first glance because of the content
displayed and the use of their tone. However, they do tend to stray apart on several main ideas.
Taylor resorts to a Puritan reaction towards the tragedy of his loss, which gives the reader a
feeling of pity for him as he would be the man whom loves God and the caring father role.
Conversely, Bradstreet displays her expression of loss in a rather unique way of blame towards
God. Taylor has an understanding state of mind toward the loss of his children, but he also
mourns heavily over his loss. Taylor uses a common word throughout his poem, which is flowers.
He compares his kids to flowers that are metaphorically growing from a True Love Knot , which
can also be referred to as a flower bed. He really emphasizes the gorgeous appearance of the flowers
that seem to grow in his garden in the first two stanzas of the poem. In Taylor s poem he rejoices
his marriage and the birth of his kids as a grateful and glorious day.

Analysis Of Lynyrd Skynyrd s Simple Man
Striving for Simple Certain songs resonate deep down within one s soul. The reason may not
seem clear, but particular songs cause an effect on a person when they are heard. Many songs
cause this reaction, and even though a person cannot quite put his or her finger on the how and
why, a person experiences this forever. A song can achieve incredible things. Whether the song lifts
someone s spirits, transports their mind to a time and place long since passed, or breaks their
hearts, musicis a constant. Lynyrd Skynyrd s Simple Man may have been overshadowed by the

why Australia felt the need to develop the sports program was because in the seventies Australia
did not have a strong national team of athletes. In the 1976 Montreal Olympics Australia finished

Graffiti Research Papers
Graffiti has existed for several decades and it s still going strong. By the definition of any type
of writing on the wall, it actually goes back to ancient Rome. The style of urban graffiti, that most
identify as graffiti, came from New York City in the late 1960s. It was born by the tagging of
subway trains. Tagging means, that they would simply leave their signature in places. For tagging
on the insides of trains, permanent markers worked, but using spray cans of paint quickly became
popular as well, especially for tagging on the outside of trains.
Soon, graffiti became more than just simple tagging, because the graffiti artists, would try to
exceed each other in terms of style. At first, writers would try to make their tags more stylish than
anyone else s. Later on, they would add more colours, special effects, and make their name bigger.
Graffiti really evolved into a complex art form with its own techniques and vocabulary. From
simple tags on the insides of trains to masterpieces that spanned multiple subway cars, the art and
science of graffiti grew quickly and soon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This is further proof that graffiti is a form of art and not just a result of random acts of vandalism.

The United States And Canadian Magazine Dispute
The United States and Canadian magazine dispute was a reaction to the U.S. company Time
Warner s circumvention of Canada s outdated trade laws. In 1965, Canadian tariff code 9958 was
created to prohibit the physical importation of foreign split run periodicals and magazines
(Thomas, 1998). As satellite technology was introduced into the world of publication, in 1993, the
U.S. company Time Warner was able to send the contents electronically via satellite across the
border to a Canadian printer. Time Warner began printing split run Canadian Sports Illustrated
issues. While the electronic border crossing was against the spirit of the 9958 Canadian tariffcode,
the wording did not prohibit the new technology. Instead of amending tariff code 9958, the
Canadian government, in 1995, used Bill C 103 to set an 80% tax on split run advertisements;
thereby, ending split run publications (Thomas, 1998). The Canadian government was primarily
focused on protecting its small market domestic publications. The 80% tax from Bill C 103 was not
intended to create revenue; instead, it was an extreme preventative measure to prevent the
proliferation of foreign publications. The Canadian government was also reacting to the sneaky
methods used by Time Warner to print split run magazines in Canadavia satellite communication
and circumvent the spirit of the tariff codes that govern imports. Had Time Warner approached
Canada with information about trends in communication, perhaps the World Trade

Exclusion of component units alters the state s financial statement in such a way that it would
present misleading or incomplete ( Office of Financial Management , 2012).
Just for clarity, according to Governmental Accounting Standards Board (2013), the financial
reporting entity consists of (a) the primary government; (b) organizations for which the primary
government is financially accountable; and (c) other organizations for which the nature and
significance of their relationship with the primary government are such that exclusion would cause
the reporting entity s financial statements to be misleading or incomplete (Summary of Statement
No. 14 The Financial Reporting Entity (Issued 6/91)).
With that in mind, governments are likely to construct separate legal entities to perform
governmental duties. For example, the City of Detroit has nine legally separated organizations,
which make up their component units. For instance, the Economic Development Corporation, and
Museum of African American History are two of the nine component units included in the
government reporting Comprehensive Annual Financial Report City of Detroit. (2010).
Considering reporting entities, the Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 94 best
defines and prescribes the recommended treatment. For example, the Statement of Financial
Accounting Standards prescribes that consolidated reporting is the only appropriate method to
report.

When the British Canadians began to fear quarrels with the United States and chose to restart their

the Prophet and his brother. The two half brothers created a Native American confederation
consisting of more than two dozen tribes that would own its land in common. Tecumseh tried to

Roman Water System Essay
During the ancient Roman time period, there was a problem towards water. The Romans used
water every day in fountains and for recreational uses. But how could this water be transported for
everyday use and then how was the water to be disposed of? The Romans managed to find the
solution to these problems. They used the idea of the aqueductto transfer the water from sprigs to
Rome. Once the water was in Rome, it went right to use, either by sending the water directly to a
bathhouse to be heated up by a hypocaust, or to a fountain to be seen by all the people of Rome.
The water would then be disposed of and travel to the sewer system where it was disposed of. But

The sewer system would collect water from baths, latrines (a public pay toilet), palaces, fountain,
and other urban runoff (Hasan). From here, the sewers would flow through town to either the
nearest river or to out onto fields for irrigating and fertilizing soil (Wikander 176, 655). However
not every Roman citizen could afford the cost of a bath or bathroom in their house, so they
would be forced to either use a latrine or a chamber pot (Hasan). A latrine was a public pay toilet
and a chamber pot was a pot where bodily excretions went (Hasan). The chamber pot became a
problem as most people became too lazy to properly empty them, so they dumped the chamber
pot out of the window. With this problem rising, the Romans decided to use an open sewer
system as well with the regular sewer system (Wikander 168). The open sewer system is exactly
how it sounds, it s an open sewer where sewage runs through town to the nearest disposal sight.
This helped with the disposal of the chamber buckets. Later an emperor named Vespasian came up
with the idea to collect all the urine (Hasan). Vespasian had discovered that the ammonia in urine
had cleaning properties, so he collected the urine to wash clothes

symbols together. The stem has its own defensive mechanism like its thorns. The deeper
meaning of the stem for me is that it reminds me of how I want to live my life and how it
connects to everything to each other, and if someone tries to touch and change it, I would defend
my beliefs and dreams to fulfill how I want to live life. This is the reason why I chose this stem.
The flower that I chose for my tattoo is the sunflower. This is because, for me, the sunflower is a
symbol of purity, happiness, joyfulness, compassionate, and optimistic. These personalities are
a symbol to remind me this is how I want to live my life, like living life happily and full of
optimism. Therefore, I chose the sunflower as my flower in my tattoo. I would put this tattoo on
my forearm because it is easy to look at and remind me of what these symbols bring and mean. It
is also an easy way to show people because there should be no shame in it. These are the outline
of my symbolic tattoo. These symbols hold dear to me because it is how I want to live and
fulfill my life. Inside the dirt and on the stem, there is an image of human beings. These images
are a symbol of family and friends. It is on my tattoo because I know they would always be beside
me even if things go right or wrong. These symbols mean that they are dependable, strong,
compassionate, and would

Background Information On The Sykes Picot Agreement
Background Information on the Sykes Picot Agreement After the war broke out in the summer of
1914, the Allies Britain, France and Russia held many discussions regarding the future of the
Ottoman Empire, now fighting on the side of Germany and the Central Powers, and its vast
expanse of territory in the Middle East, Arabia and southern central Europe. In March 1915, Britain
signed a secret agreement with Russia, whose designs on the empire s territory had led the Turks to
join forces with Germany and Austria Hungary in 1914. By its terms, Russia would annex the
Ottoman capital of Constantinople and retain control of the Dardanelles (the crucially important
strait connecting the Black Sea with the Mediterranean) and the Gallipoli peninsula,... Show more

On May 19, 1916 representatives of Great Britain and France secretly reach an accord, known as the
Sykes Picot agreement. The Sykes Picot Agreement , officially known as the Asia Minor Agreement
was a secret agreement between the governments of the United Kingdom(Britain) and France, with
the assent aid of Russia, defining their biased proposed spheres of influence that provide them with
an advantage of gaining control in the Middle East should the Triple Entente succeeded in
dethroning the mighty Ottoman Empire during the first World War back in early 1919. The
negotiation of this treaty/agreement occurred between November of 1915 and March of the year
1916. The agreement finally came to a close on the 19th of May 1916.
The agreement effectively used, implied and put into action the famous imperialistic tactic of the
Europeans: Divide and Rule . This agreement divided the Arab provinces of the Ottoman Empire
outside the Arabian peninsula into areas of future British and French colonization using their
advantage in control and/or influence. Under Sykes Picot, the Syrian coast and much of modern
day Lebanon went to France; Britain would take direct control over central and southern
Mesopotamia, around the Baghdad and Basra provinces. Palestine would have an international
administration, as other Christian powers, namely Russia, held an interest in this region. The rest
of the territory in question a huge area

Keats And Longfellow Analysis
In John Keats s When I Have My fears and Henry Longfellow s Mezzo Cammin , the poets share
their outlook on death. Both writers filled themselves with the concern of dying before they created
a fulfilling life. Although Keats and Longfellow both portrayed their similar theme using parallel
structures and language, the two works differ in the two poets rhyme schemes and tones. In the
beginning quatrain of When I Have My Fears , Keats begins by writing about his doubt that his
insight might not have time to reach other people. He worries his most important thoughts will not
be written down and there will be no books that share his valuable knowledge. Keats moves on
through the next quatrain by revealing to the audience that another concern... Show more content on

However, the beginning of the sonnets follow a different rhyme scheme. Keats chose to follow the
ABAB pattern while Longfellow selected an ABBA arrangement. Both then continue to follow the
standard sonnet structure CDCD EFEF GG and use the break in between the second and third
quatrains to shift thoughts, otherwise known as the volta. At the volta of each poem is where we
truly see how each poet feels about death. Keats appears more accepting of death where Longfellow
struggles with the idea of letting it conquer him. Besides the similar structure, another way the
poems compare is in the language the poets create. Keats and Longfellow admit to the fear that they
will pass before they have the opportunity to make their mark on the Earth. They chose to view
death as vast and imminent. The poets also show comparison in their writing by connecting nature
to their works. Keats looks up at the starred sky and reflects on his theme and Longfellow looks up
a mountain. Despite using similar structure, language, and themes, Keats and Longfellow create
different tones that depict their attitudes about death. In When I Have My Fears , Keats recognized
death as inevitable, but includes these elements to create a reverent and accepting tone. However,
Longfellow feels as though he will never live up to the life he desired for himself and uses the
language and structure to create

Development of the Montessori Method Essay
Maria Montessori and the ISD Model: Development of the Montessori Method
Summary
The paper I prepared begins with a description of the Montessori Method and a historical narration
of the professional career of Dr. Maria Montessori. I also included some biographical information
as to her origins and the identity of her parents. I then drew a comparison of her methods for
developing the Montessori Method and her career to the ISD model. I compared significant events
in her career to the analysis phase. Explaining that her experience with children lead her to develop
her programs. Then I drew a comparison to her work with the design and development phases,
citing her materials that she uses in her classrooms and the classrooms ... Show more content on

Sinclair describes the managers of these plants as so heartless and driven, that if a man were
injured he was replaced and as punishment for slowing production. If a child fell ill, he was fired
unless he kept working. The work force was denied any rights due to the over surplus of labor
available. For every one worker available for pennies a day, there were several willing to work
for pennies a week. At times there were widespread unemployment, hunger, disease and waves of
immigration. Necessities were often scarce and work was a commodity not easily replaced.
(Sinclair, 1960) During this time social reformers like Dr. Maria Montessori were developing new
educational systems and programs for underprivileged children.
The reformers concern was that while parents were forced to slave long hours, the development
of the children was inhibited. The families lived in horrible conditions such as the tenements of
New York or Rome. Large families lived together in one or two room apartments with very little
space or room for a child to grow. The children were raised, not to become well educated minds,
but to become workers in the industrial society. Scientists, doctors and other outsiders brought to
the forefront methods of caring for young children long abandoned for fear of losing precious
income to infirmary or post natal recovery. This inspired some changes in the way mothers in
particular took care of their children until they were able

The Myth Of Sisyphus And The Stranger
It is common for authors to use similar themes in their work intentionally. For Albert Camus, the
author of The Myth of Sisyphus and The Stranger, the use of similar themes seems to be
intentional. The author takes a very different approach to the same topic, however. Not only is the
underlying topic of existentialism the same, but the writing styles and rhetorical devices similar, as
well. Through the use of similar devices and themes, the reader is able to understand, analyze, and
compare and contrast the complementary approach that has been taken in both stories. Camus uses
a more informal word choice in The Stranger, and a more formal word choice in The Myth of
Sisyphus. Here, while Meursault is talking to Raymond, the reader... Show more content on

It was pleasant; the coffee had warmed me up, and the smell of flowers on the night air was
coming through the open door. I think I dozed off a little. (Camus,14). In this use of imagery,
you can see how Meursault obviously feels about his mother, as there is a lack of interest or
even empathy. In The Myth of the Sisyphus , Camus takes another route, but still uses heavy
visual imagery. In this quote, the narrator explains that through coercion, Sisyphus is able to talk
the Gods into letting him visit his wife one more time before he has to return to the underworld.
But when he had seen again the face of this world, he enjoyed the water and sun, warm stones
and sea, he no longer wanted to go back to the infernal darkness...Many years more he lived
facing the curve of the gulf, the sparkling sea, and the smiles of the earth. (Myth of Sisyphus).
Though this imagery, the reader is able to tell that Sisyphus is a master of trickery, and that he
feels better than the Gods because he can outsmart them by telling a simple lie. When he does, he
is obviously pleased with himself because he now gets to live in the sun, and by the sea with his
wife. This ties directly into some of the meaning behind existentialism and how the only hope for
meaning in one s life lies with the individual who can construct in. Camus uses the undeniable
underlying theme of existentialism in both pieces, but adds absurdism within The Myth of Sisyphus
. Considering that in both the stories the

Doctor Of Osteopathy Degree
I aim to pursue a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic
Medicine. But the question that may arise is why this school? Why choose to pursue a D.O.
degree instead of an M.D. degree? I prefer to study for the former, as it teaches students to treat a
patient as a whole person, rather than isolate a particular area and treat that alone. It teaches to
take into account all factors, all bodily systems, into one, when looking at a patient. I personally
believe that is a key when it comes to diagnosis and treatment. Having been established one
hundred and ten years ago, PCOM is one of the finest institutions of its kind, educating osteopathic
physicians and specialists. Their receiving of a $1.4 million federal grant

The Pros And Cons Of Plagiarism
In a world surrounded by phones, computers, and other technological devices, information is
always just a click away. School work has become more clicking and typing, and less reading
and writing. When kids get an assignment to read a book and do a book report on it, laziness
kicks in, and they go to the internet to look up a summary. Then what they do is copy and paste
other people s writings into their paper. What a majority of kids do not know is that this is
considered plagiarismand it is illegal. Plagiarism is something that is very common in today s world
and although it is common and a great deal of people do it, it is still illegal and wrong
Plagiarism, defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary is to commit literary theft or to present
as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source . What this means in
simpler words is that plagiarism stealing someone else s words or ideas and using them as if they
were your own. It is considered plagiarism even if you forget to put quotation marks around the
information you are using. While reading the article ВЁWhat is Plagiarism?ВЁ the reader learns
that although it may not seem like a big deal to copy what someone else said online or in a book, it
is actually breaking the U.S. law. For example, if a music composer wanted to write a new piece of
music they would research and spend time trying to think about what their piece is going to consist
of. If the composer were to take words from another piece

Common Names Research Paper
The name is a very powerful thing. A name is typically the first thing someone learns about
someone else. Simply a name can describe an individual s identity. Names do not only tell a
person s story, they also shape an identity and are impactful and important. The first impressions an
individual makes about someone else are often based upon his or her name. When a personhears a
familiar or common name, a positive image often comes to mind. Meanwhile, individuals with
unique and different names are often subjected to judgment based upon the assumptions of first
impressions of others. Every name has a certain identity and is chosen for a specific reason. These
birth names, given by one s parents, resemble and represent who an individual is through... Show

Assumptions are based solely on a name and this first impression can be negative. Those with
unusual names are viewed differently and negatively compared to others. Being viewed negatively
impacts personality and generates insecurities. Research has found that, a name that is perceived as
too different may actually have an adverse effect on your child later in life (Willets). Essentially, it
is sought to be harder for those with complex names to receive jobs. This is because unique names
could put a halt to their career and life. A study found that a resume submitted under a perceived
African American name received less attention from employers than the identical resume bearing a
more Caucasian name (Goudreau). These assumptions are cultivated because people feel that they
do not share a connection with someone who an uncommon name, thus, they immediately draw
negative conclusions about the person through their name. While those assumptions are often
wrong, they can have a considerable influence on one s life and identity. The self esteem of an
individual with a less desirable name also contributes to their identity. When people are judged by
their name, their self image is damaged due to insecurities that they portray. When a person with an
uncommon name does not like their name and know that others do not like their name this can

Summary Of Amusing Ourselves To Death Postman
Humanity has far surpassed anything that was seen as impossible. However, as society
progressed did we get distracted on the way? Did we seem to lose track of the important things that
mattered in our lives? In the mid 1980s Neil Postman wrote a book called Amusing Ourselves to
Death which talks about how technologyand media has reshaped our culture and he makes
predictions on how it will shape our future. The purpose of this paper is to update Postman s
perspective to the present. Throughout the last chapter of the book Postman talks about how
technology has distracted us, and how it has changed our social lives. This paper will provide
information on how Postman s perspective examples connect to society today, and how many of us
are influenced by it without even noticing it.

Postman says Televisionas I have implied earlier, serves us most usefully when presenting junk
entertainment; ... news, politics, science, education, commerce, religion and turns them into
entertainment packages. (Postman 159) This election year people are making fun of the candidates
running for president. Many of these people don t even seem concerned because television has
turned politics into entertainment.
Asbeek Brusse author of Educational Storylines in Entertainment Television says Although
embedding a health product into an entertainment program to covertly influence the public may add
to the program s intended prosocial effects and may be socially desirable for some target groups,
other consumers might find this tactic offensive or morally unacceptable. (Educational Storylines

Asian Cultures And Symbols Of The Korean Culture
When many people hear Asian, they automatically think of a Chinese person, but in reality Asian
people consist of Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, etc. One of these asian cultures is the Korean
Culture. This culture consists of traditional as well as modern ideas that bring together the young
and old generations in ways that they can coexist with one another. The beauty of this culture
comes from the elderly and passed down traditions that still thrive within South Korean society

  • 2. The Matrix And Charlie Angels Everyone has their own movie preference. There are people who adore the hardcore action and there are some who prefer the slow paced drama. Many individuals may not like a movie because of the genre it is in. A genre is a categorization of certain types of movies based upon their style, form, or content. The genre is a vital component of a filmsince it characterizes which course the plot line will go and allows to prepare yourself for that film. Movie genre is the term used to differentiate between various number of films. There are around five fundamental groups that are big and prevalent i.e. Action, Horror, Comedy, Science fiction. In this essay ,I will be comparing two films, The Matrixand Charlie Angels. I will discuss the use of cinematography, the genres of the films, and how effective they are. I will also look at the characters, action, plot ,sound and atmosphere created, and how these are aimed at each film s target audience. Charlie s Angels is an action comedy film, which borrows ideas from other well known movies such as Mission Impossible , James Bond etc. It is not very original or challenging, has a weak and predictable plot, and is merely an update on the 1970 s television series of the same name. The film is based on a trio of beautiful women who are hired to retrieve a man and his technology. They achieve this by working together, using their intelligence, a series of cunning plans, combined with an impressive display of girl power. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pestle Analysis of Barclays Plc PESTEL ANALYSIS OF BARCLAYS PLC PESTLE analysis is very useful for studying the environment in which a company operates and accessing external factors influencing the company in the markets it operates. PESTLE is the acronym for the following categories of investigation: political, economic, sociological, technological, legal and environmental (Cheverton, 2004; Partridge and Sinclair Hunt, 2006). Discussing the political factors influencing operation of the banks in the national, local and regional levels and legislation, it should be mentioned that banks have always been to a certain degree regulated by the government (Benston, 2000). For example, government determines the fraction of reserves that a commercial bank should keep with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may be concluded that the higher the GDP indices are, the greater amounts of money come through banking system, and the more favourable position Barclays plc would have in a given country. However, it cannot be stated for sure that South Africa provides better conditions for Barclay s operation. The economy of the USA proves to be the largest and most of the bank s transactions are carried out in the UK. Interest rates in the discussed countries appear to look the following way: Figure 7: United Kingdom Interest Rate [pic] Source: Bank of England, 2009 Figure 8: United States Interest Rate [pic] Source: Federal Reserve, 2009 Comparing interest rates in the UK and US, it can be stated that the US Federal Reserve conducts a zero rate policy. However, it does not imply that loans made in the US are free of charge for businesses. Figure 9: South Africa Interest Rate [pic] Source: Reserve bank of South Africa, 2009 On the contrary, interest rate in South Africa is rather high. It is not even close to zero level, but constitutes more than 7%. However, the tendency of fall from the period of summer 2008 may be observed. At the same time it does not mean that loans will be easier to obtain and that they will be available. Speaking about banking industry, the set of socio cultural, technological and ecological factors will not be excessively significant. Indeed, operating in the global scale, Barclays

  • 5. Judith Butler Heterosexuality When analyzing the matters of how sex, gender, race and class are implicated in sexuality, many questions will arise. Furthermore, race class sex and gender are all separate interconnected categories that have a colossal influence in the way individuals are viewed, perceived, acknowledged and accepted in todays society. Many theorists such as Judith Butler, who is known as one of the most prominent American philosophers and gendertheorists, have developed ideas that support her views on gender performativity, as well as the social constructions of sex and gender that govern the people of todays society. As noted in the course text, New Sexuality Studies, there has been a revolution in the study of sexuality. Sex is today understood as fundamentally social (NSS, xv). Throughout the exploration of this research essay, following week six on Heterosexuality , in addition to various sources, this paper will exhibit how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The course texts and articles used to support this research question will accurately portray that the underlying problem may not be the privileged status of heterosexuals, but rather societies dualistic categories that pit groups of people against one another (NSS, 259). According to Judith Butler, societies that believe in a natural gender order are also organized around the norm of heterosexuality. Butler argues that heterosexuality is the basis of a culture of romance, marriage, and family that is enforced by our laws, government, churches schools and military (NSS, 11). Therefore, through this system of enforced heterosexuality that governs individuals everyday lives it is comprehensible why societies divide individuals into two gender types, viewing men and women as the only natural, normal way of living. • 6. The Black Church The rise of the Black Church in the southern black community was a time that was difficult and happy all at the same time, This topic relates to To Kill A Mockingbird because during this time, in Alabama Tom Robinson was the one accused of rape , and a lot of people voted him to be guilty. Tom was guilty and some people believed that Tom was not guilty and was not happy, but most people were happy that he was guilty. So there is a lot of racismgoing on at this time. Some of the earliest Black Churches date all the way back to the 1700s. Only a few existed for blacks prior to the Civil War. The first Black Church was in Savannah,Georgia in 1777. Also the first Black Church was founded by George Lille. Also to go along with the churches... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The call and response originally made it tradition that christian values while describing hardships of slavery. The Black Churches in the Civil Rights movement made them think that we should end all of the whole whites and blacks should be separate. Rev. A.R. Bernard, Rabbi Capers C. Funnye, Dr.Renita Weems, these were some Black Church leaders. After all, if this person made the decision to just let all blacks and whites have the same things. Also be at the same place at the same time. In To Kill A Mockingbirdit shows me the side really nobody wants to see, racism. Some characters are not racist at all like Atticus, Scout and Jem. Atticus teaches his children to treat others with respect and with treat others how they want to be treated. But others like Bob Ewell is a very racist man. For example, he and a bunch of other people got together and went to the jail that Tom Robinson was staying in and they wanted to do some bad things to him. I think that this book taught many people to respect others. It really gets to the point of how to treat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of Dashiell Hammett s The House On Turk Street Set against the backdrop of San Francisco during the Roaring 1920 s, Dashiell Hammett s The House on Turk Street invokes classic images of the courageous and hardened crime fighter enveloped by the ubiquitous reach of organized crime. Mr. Hammett draws inspiration from his own experiences both as a young man working for the Pinkerton National Detective Agencyand his time serving in the Army (PBS, 1). The story, a pristine specimen of the hardboileddetective genre, captures not only the edge of your seat emotions of mystery, but also the grueling realism and brutality of organized crime. Despite my overwhelmingly positive response to the story, it is not a flawless work. Mr. Hammett occasionally relies too heavily on seemingly self resolving circumstances within the storyline, making scenarios too convenient for the characters and leaving the reader frustrated by the lack of suspense. Also of concern is that, while the periphery characters are plentifully described and develop harmoniously throughout the story, Mr. Hammett often leaves the reader yearning for a more profound development of the Continental Op. Beyond these sudden revolutions and shallow descriptions, The House in Turk Street is a fantastic read that is exciting, intelligent, and a quintessential piece of American noir fiction. Mr. Hammett begins his story by introducing a Continental Op (a detective) who had been told that man whom I was hunting lived in a certain Turk Street block (Hammett, 3). The ... I chose to keep the colors and designs simple because I try to keep my life simple and avoid all the drama of high school that I see everyday. I do not try to hide who I am. I am generally a very private and quiet person but I have never found an excuse to hide who I am or wear a mask. I try to embrace who I am. This is meant to give you a better idea of who I really am. I chose to use pearls because pearls represent imperfection to me. Most people think that pearls are always round and perfect but that is very rare. Almost always they are oval or irregularly shaped but by just looking at them they look perfect and like what everyone expects. To me that is like most people including myself, they look like nothing is wrong but if you look closer you can see all the imperfections. Nobody is perfect but most of us like to pretend that we are. In my case I try to seem like I am always happy and optimistic and sometimes I really am but most of the time I am just trying to get through the day. I also never try to hide this but most people never notice because most of the time I am so quiet and shy. According to the family legend, the house became warm only in July and August. Their wood stove heated one room in the two story house. Therefore, three boys slept in the same bed. As their mother taught them the alphabet, she pointed out that when they slept, they formed an E, which stood for exemplary trouble. When the war began in 41, the oldest boy left for the Navy. He was 16 when Pearl Harbor occurred. He told his father, If you don t sign for me, I ll steal a rowboat and row across the Pacific to fight. • 12. Plato s Summary Of The Soul-City In The Republic Plato s analogy of the Soul City in the republic proposes to examine justice at the communal level instead of at the individual level. He does this due to the complexities that come with the individual. It is difficult to observe encompassing ideas such as justice through something that is not fully understood by the individual itself. Comparatively, the political community is created by the individual which allows for better understanding, making it a better agent for this examination. He does this in an attempt to identify similarities between justice of the individual and justice of the community. After some attempts to observe existing cities, Plato realized that the cities which existed at that time were not fully just, rather they had elements of justice and injustice, making them inadequate settings to examine. To accurately examine justice in the city, they decide to speak in the hypothetical and create an ideal city. This imagined city contains unequivocal goodness and justice. Plato speaks about the virtues that exist in the ideal city: wisdom, courage, moderation, and justice. These virtues become directly related to the individual. Wisdom is the virtue of the ruler, courage the virtue of the soldier, moderation the virtue of the producer. This is where the idea of the soul city analogy starts to come full circle as Plato claims that in order for these virtues to exist in the city they must exist in the individual with connected virtues. To do this he breaks down the individual soul into three parts. The intellect connected to wisdom, the spirit connected to courage, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Characteristics Of Aeneas A Hero Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status of hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him just as much grief as it does splendor. What is a hero? We would like to think that a hero is someone who has achieved some fantastic goal or status, or maybe someone who has accomplished a great task. Heroes find themselves in situations of great pressure and act with nobility and grace. Though the main character of Virgil s Aeneid, Aeneas, is such a person, it is not by his own doing. He encounters situations in which death is near, in which love, hate, peace, and war come together to cause both good and evil. In these positions he conducts himself with honor, by going along with what the gods want. Only then goes on to pave the way for the Roman Empire. His deeds, actions, and leadership would never have come to be if it were not for the gods. The gods took special interest in Aeneas, causing him misfortune in some cases, giving him assistance in others. On the whole, the gods constantly provide perfect opportunities for Aeneas to display his heroism. Without them, Aeneas would not be the hero he is. This gift does not come without a price, though; he must endure the things heroes endure to become what they are. One of the most important reasons he was that crucial for Turkey was that him being a nationalist founder and leader, and the first president of the Turkish Republic. Ataturk was born in Salonika (then known as the Ottoman Empire), in 1881. The real truth is that, Ataturk, still being at his young ages, started to think about making reforms for his country and society, and eventually had reached his goals making Turkey a free and civilized country, by also being the first president of Turkey. The transition of a multinational empire to a nation state has happened; therefore, Turkey s national identity has been established. In the creation of this identity, qualification of individuals as a citizen has been a crucial point. Ataturk found the path for the public administration by setting a new democracy which is Republic . Secondly, Populism means being against class differences and inequalities, and not accepting the individuals, families, classes, and organizations being above one another. The Republican Revolution also has the characteristic of the social revolution. At first, including the Swiss civil code, Western laws were applied in Turkey, so, there have been changes in the status of women, in 1934, being able to elect or be elected by others. Moreover, Ataturk had also improved the idea of laicism. The white expansion into the Ohio Valley Region brought about the decline and the eventual dissolution of the Native American way of life. The struggles of the French and English in the north and the westward push of American settlers in the south were met with unified pro nativist resistance. This European influence had radically changed the lives of the Great Lakes tribes. By the time of Pontiac s boyhood, the stone and bone tools of his people had been replaced by steel axes, knives, and traps (Hough, viii). In the 1740s, commercial competition between France and Great Britain had intensified, and war broke out in 1744. Ottawa warriors fought on the side of the French, as they did in all four major wars from 1689 1763 (Eckert, 127). British forces under British Commander in chief Sir Jeffrey Amherst swept through the Great Lakes region, seizing control of most of the French forts by 1760. Amherst was well known to be arrogant and contemptuous of the Indians. He insisted that the good behavior of the natives should be bought with fear. Under British occupation, unrest grew among the tribes (Hough,xii0). Pontiac called a meeting of Ottawa, Chippewa, Huron, Potawatomi and other Lake tribes. Double Standards In Our Justice System Essay Ismail Dakrouri Professor Elena Makarion ENG 101 39 February 29, 2016 Double Standards In Our Justice System The Judicial System has always been something that interests me, because there are always two sides to a story but you can only support one side and do your best to make sure it is the one that wins. One reason why I have always had a passion for the law is because living in Egypt you get to see how corrupt things can get, and I believe this is part of why I am who I am today, since experiencing this made me become a very confident person knowing when and how to stand up for myself and not stop until I achieve what I have aimed for. That being said, I have always believed that the richer you are the more lenient the judicial system will be with you, in other words if you come from a wealthy family your chances of getting sentenced to prison are much slimmer than if you are from a poor family. I just recently started reading a book called The Rich Get Richer and The Poor Get Prison which inspired me to persuade you why I believe that the way we incarcerate people must change; we need to look beyond the background they come from, and start sentencing people based on their crimes. A comparison of Anne Bradstreet s In Memory of My Dear Grandchild Elizabeth Bradstreet and Edward Taylors Upon Wedlock, and Death of Children. Taylor and Bradstreet have different relationships to their children in each of their poems. In the poems the writers explain that death, in some way, is a natural course and compare it with the diverse aspects of nature. Both Taylor and Bradstreet attempt to reunite the faith they have in God even when they suffer the loss of a child. These poems seem very similar just by first glance because of the content displayed and the use of their tone. However, they do tend to stray apart on several main ideas. Taylor resorts to a Puritan reaction towards the tragedy of his loss, which gives the reader a feeling of pity for him as he would be the man whom loves God and the caring father role. Conversely, Bradstreet displays her expression of loss in a rather unique way of blame towards God. Taylor has an understanding state of mind toward the loss of his children, but he also mourns heavily over his loss. Taylor uses a common word throughout his poem, which is flowers. He compares his kids to flowers that are metaphorically growing from a True Love Knot , which can also be referred to as a flower bed. He really emphasizes the gorgeous appearance of the flowers that seem to grow in his garden in the first two stanzas of the poem. In Taylor s poem he rejoices his marriage and the birth of his kids as a grateful and glorious day. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The style of urban graffiti, that most identify as graffiti, came from New York City in the late 1960s. It was born by the tagging of subway trains. Tagging means, that they would simply leave their signature in places. For tagging on the insides of trains, permanent markers worked, but using spray cans of paint quickly became popular as well, especially for tagging on the outside of trains. In 1965, Canadian tariff code 9958 was created to prohibit the physical importation of foreign split run periodicals and magazines (Thomas, 1998). As satellite technology was introduced into the world of publication, in 1993, the U.S. company Time Warner was able to send the contents electronically via satellite across the border to a Canadian printer. Time Warner began printing split run Canadian Sports Illustrated issues. While the electronic border crossing was against the spirit of the 9958 Canadian tariffcode, the wording did not prohibit the new technology. Instead of amending tariff code 9958, the Canadian government, in 1995, used Bill C 103 to set an 80% tax on split run advertisements; thereby, ending split run publications (Thomas, 1998). The Canadian government was primarily focused on protecting its small market domestic publications. The 80% tax from Bill C 103 was not intended to create revenue; instead, it was an extreme preventative measure to prevent the proliferation of foreign publications. When the British Canadians began to fear quarrels with the United States and chose to restart their attempts to win the support of Indians in any future war, they became impatient to enlist the aid of the Prophet and his brother. The two half brothers created a Native American confederation consisting of more than two dozen tribes that would own its land in common. Tecumseh tried to convince several tribes such as the Osage, to work together. Tecumseh once said, A single twig breaks, but the bundle of twigs is strong. He wanted every single Indian tribe to work together to defeat those settling on their land. Tecumseh mainly recruited young men who from 1808 gathered on the Tippecanoe River in northern Indiana, which became the center of Tecumseh s activities (Sugden 31). The activities at Tippecanoe were skeptical in the eyes of the Governor William Henry Harrison of the Indiana Territory. Although the root cause of the Indian movement was the U.S. hunger for land, Harrison often blamed on the members of the British Indian Department at Fort Maden. • 39. Roman Water System Essay During the ancient Roman time period, there was a problem towards water. The Romans used water every day in fountains and for recreational uses. But how could this water be transported for everyday use and then how was the water to be disposed of? The Romans managed to find the solution to these problems. They used the idea of the aqueductto transfer the water from sprigs to Rome. Once the water was in Rome, it went right to use, either by sending the water directly to a bathhouse to be heated up by a hypocaust, or to a fountain to be seen by all the people of Rome. The water would then be disposed of and travel to the sewer system where it was disposed of. But how did these revolutionary water systems work and what good did they bring to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sewer system would collect water from baths, latrines (a public pay toilet), palaces, fountain, and other urban runoff (Hasan). From here, the sewers would flow through town to either the nearest river or to out onto fields for irrigating and fertilizing soil (Wikander 176, 655). However not every Roman citizen could afford the cost of a bath or bathroom in their house, so they would be forced to either use a latrine or a chamber pot (Hasan). A latrine was a public pay toilet and a chamber pot was a pot where bodily excretions went (Hasan). The chamber pot became a problem as most people became too lazy to properly empty them, so they dumped the chamber pot out of the window. With this problem rising, the Romans decided to use an open sewer system as well with the regular sewer system (Wikander 168). The open sewer system is exactly how it sounds, it s an open sewer where sewage runs through town to the nearest disposal sight. This helped with the disposal of the chamber buckets. Later an emperor named Vespasian came up with the idea to collect all the urine (Hasan). In the beginning quatrain of When I Have My Fears , Keats begins by writing about his doubt that his insight might not have time to reach other people. At the volta of each poem is where we truly see how each poet feels about death. Keats appears more accepting of death where Longfellow struggles with the idea of letting it conquer him. Besides the similar structure, another way the poems compare is in the language the poets create. Keats and Longfellow admit to the fear that they will pass before they have the opportunity to make their mark on the Earth. They chose to view death as vast and imminent. The poets also show comparison in their writing by connecting nature to their works. Keats looks up at the starred sky and reflects on his theme and Longfellow looks up a mountain. For every one worker available for pennies a day, there were several willing to work for pennies a week. At times there were widespread unemployment, hunger, disease and waves of immigration. Necessities were often scarce and work was a commodity not easily replaced. (Sinclair, 1960) During this time social reformers like Dr. Maria Montessori were developing new educational systems and programs for underprivileged children. The reformers concern was that while parents were forced to slave long hours, the development of the children was inhibited. The families lived in horrible conditions such as the tenements of New York or Rome. Large families lived together in one or two room apartments with very little space or room for a child to grow. The children were raised, not to become well educated minds, but to become workers in the industrial society. For Albert Camus, the author of The Myth of Sisyphus and The Stranger, the use of similar themes seems to be intentional. The author takes a very different approach to the same topic, however. Not only is the underlying topic of existentialism the same, but the writing styles and rhetorical devices similar, as well. Through the use of similar devices and themes, the reader is able to understand, analyze, and compare and contrast the complementary approach that has been taken in both stories. (Camus,14). In this use of imagery, you can see how Meursault obviously feels about his mother, as there is a lack of interest or even empathy. In The Myth of the Sisyphus , Camus takes another route, but still uses heavy visual imagery. In this quote, the narrator explains that through coercion, Sisyphus is able to talk the Gods into letting him visit his wife one more time before he has to return to the underworld. But when he had seen again the face of this world, he enjoyed the water and sun, warm stones and sea, he no longer wanted to go back to the infernal darkness...Many years more he lived facing the curve of the gulf, the sparkling sea, and the smiles of the earth. (Myth of Sisyphus). Though this imagery, the reader is able to tell that Sisyphus is a master of trickery, and that he feels better than the Gods because he can outsmart them by telling a simple lie. When he does, he is obviously pleased with himself because he now gets to live in the sun, and by the sea with his wife. This ties directly into some of the meaning behind existentialism and how the only hope for meaning in one s life lies with the individual who can construct in.
