Electric Car and Tesla
Tesla Motors
1. Research and write a brief history of the company, it mission and vision statements. The
automotive market is one of the biggest markets over the world. Participants companies at this
market are well known enterprises and also they own some of the better known brands like GM,
Ford, Honda, Toyota, VW, BMW etc. In the traditional auto industry, consumer power is relatively
high, given relatively low switching costs and a vast choice of relatively substitutable products.
Many components of the automobile can be sourced from different suppliers which maintains
competitive input pricing. However, the electric vehicle (EV) industry demonstrates a ... Show more

The Model S was elected Motor Trend s 2013 Car of the Year by a unanimous vote of all eleven

electric car can provide. Equipped with all wheel drive and offloading capabilities. There is no
Tesla without Elon Musk. His vision is a completely fresh consumer experience enabled Tesla to
become what it is today as well as what it will become tomorrow. Quite simply, people want to
work with him and they believe in his vision and are inspired by his passion. In an interview for

for employees. There are two perspectives to consider in quantifying success. The first is from
the perspective of the company s owners which are shareholders. From the investors perspective
quantifying success is quite easy. Anyone who bought Tesla s stock at its IPO at $17 in July of
2010 would have more than quintupled their money as of May 2013, when the stock traded at $87.
Even those who owned Tesla at the beginning of 2013 would

The Peasants Revolt
The knightly Wadsley family were the lords of the manor. They hunted deer on Loxley Chase,
and fletchers (arrow makers) lived on Loxley Common. Richard Grafton, printer to Edward VI
tells us Robin Hood was descended of a noble parentage, * thereby explaining his prowess with
sword and bow due to the training received by children of the nobility. Dodsworth s comment that
his mother kept him after he killed his stepfather and fled into the woods, suggests he was young
and looked after by a nanny or servants. Changing his name from Robert Dore to Robert Hood and
absconding from court would make him a fugitive and an outlaw. Later, Robin and the citizens of
York rebelled against the unpopular lord mayor in the Peasants Revolt. The mayors name was John

policies and practices of Robin s guild or fellowship.... The parallels between guild policies and
practices and specific scenes in the Geste are compelling, offering convincing evidence that the
audience would not only recognize the mercantile allusions, but also appreciate the yeoman hero
proving himself superior to the knightly class. The king owed his comely appearance to the
skill and craftsmanship of the guilds, one of which was Robin s guild. The patron saint of the
drapers guild was the Virgin Mary, who Robin loved and whose name was often on his lips. A
charitable organisation known as the guild of Our Lord Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary cared
for the widows and orphans of their deceased members. These people were destitute and tradition
has it that Robin gave to the poor what he took from the rich. They would include the wicked
churchmen, his clients as a merchant, services rendered to his lord, king and country, and if Robin
was a knight as seems likely, then rich pickings were available from ransom money and

Hero Spider Man History
The hero Spider Man s history How does the hero Spider Man becomes Spider Man? According
to Joel D. Chaston, an English professor at Missouri State University, Spider Man is one of the
Marvel Comics most popular superhero, which is a creation of a writer editor Stan Lee. In a
creaveonline.com website, The History of Spider Man, the author asserts that, Spider Man was
first appeared in the Amazing Fantasy number 15 back in 1962 (Hunsaker). The character has
gained popularity among American society, and has remained popular until today. The history of
the character Spider Man first starts off with an idea of a writer named Stan Lee; then there is a
present day version of the hero; Peter Parker, and how he fights with his dark side, Venom. First
and foremost, the hero Spider Man starts with the creative ideas that Stan Lee develops in 1962.
Chaston asserts that Stan Lee is the best known costumed superheroof the Marvel Comics universe
and the star of several comic books and television series. In a Time.com website, How Spider
Man Was Born , the author, Nolan Feeney states that one day, Lee s publisher tells him he must
come up with a new superhero idea. That day, Lee goes home and starts thinking about what a
new hero would be like. He sees a fly climbing on the wall, so he comes up with an idea that a
new hero should be able to climb walls. He starts to randomly call out the new hero s name, Fly

KV Pharmaceuticals Case Study Essay
Introduction Business ethics is an extremely important topic in our world today. This is
especially true because of the fact that we live in a changing society where it has become
increasingly common to see more and more cases of companies that participate in illegal,
immoral and unethical activities. So that we can prevent these behaviors, it is necessary to study
and understand how these situations can occur and what we can do to prevent them from
happening. In this research paper, we will examine in detail the case of KV Pharmaceuticals,
also known as KV. We will discuss a few major areas of topic that include how and why these
events took place, as well as what could have been done to prevent them. Next, we will take a look

One month later, KV decided to recall some of the morphine sulfate it had distributed, and it also
filed a field alert report to the FDA informing them about their recall. KV immediately began an
internal investigation of their manufacturing process and their products; the investigation revealed
that not only were the morphine sulfate pills oversized, but the propafenone and
dextroamphetamine sulfate tablets as well. These oversized tablets can result in the patients
receiving almost twice the amount of the recommended dose, which can lead to fatal consequences.
Propafenone is an anti arrhythmic medication that treats illnesses associated with heart palpitations.
An overdose can cause low blood pressure or heart palpitations which may lead to death.
Dextroamphetamine sulfate is used to treat narcolepsy, ADHD in children, epilepsy and
parkinsonism; an overdose can lead to fatal poisoning (KV Pharmaceutical, 2010).
The complaints led to the inspection of KV by the FDA from December 2008 to February 2009; the
inspection results confirmed that KV Pharmaceuticals had a considerable amount of cGMP
violations, and even then they decided to manufacture unapproved drugs. While conducting the
inspection, the FDA also realized that ETHEX had never filed the field alert reports concerning the
oversized propafenone and dextroamphetamine sulfate tablets, which is required under the Food,
Drug, and Cosmetic Act. This Act states that drug manufacturers must carefully

Task D Report
Early identification of speech, language or communication delay is important for a child or young
persons well being. All practitioners have a responsibility to identify children s needs and
intervene with appropriate support as early as possible, to help children achieve the goals of Every
Child Matters and progress towards the Early Learning Goals. The importance of early language
and communication skills for children s later achievements is now well documented and the need
to provide support for children at this early stage is so that they can achieve their full potential.
This means recognising a child s difficulty quickly: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As most of a child s communication happens at home it is vital that close links are made between
professionals and family members/carers and to look at ways of supporting the child or young
person at home.
If a child or young person needs more than the support of the school environment, then a multi
agency team will be involved. This would involve the child s teacher, teaching assistant, the school
SENCO, qualified and experienced professionals, for example Speech and Language Therapists and
most importantly parents. This might be through a recognized programme such as the Nuffield
Dyspraxia Programme, Language through Reading or Social Use of Language Programme, or
through a combination of approaches tailored to suit the individual child or young person.
A child or young person with speech, language and communication delay will usually have a
Multi Element Plan (M.E.P.). If they do not seem to be making enough progress or they need a
lot of extra help the school SENCO will contact the Local Authority and ask them to carry out a
statutory assessment. This is only usually required for children who have the most significant and
long term special educational needs which require a very detailed assessment. It can be a long
process and both the school and parents are involved. If a statement of Special Educational Needs
(SEN) is issued, this will take

Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States, is arguably said by many Americans to
be the best president in U.S. history. Ronald Reagan is the biggest influence on the U.S. since
1900 because of Reaganomics, he ended the Cold War, and he provided arms and other support
to anti communist groups . Not only did Reagan win forty nine out of the fifty states in his bid for
reelection in 1984, but, he also earned five hundred and twenty five electoral votes. This counted
as the most Electoral Votes of any candidate in the history of the United States. The Election of

Akhenaten Sun God Analysis
The Author s (Akhenaten, the sun God) purpose was that Akhenaten wanted everyone to only
believe and worship one god. He wanted everyone to trust in only one God, and that God of
course, was Aten the sun god. The story of Aten was that he wanted to change everyone s beliefs
into the same as his own.The people of Egypt was forced to change from a polytheistic religion,
the worship of many gods. He believed that all good things are connected to the sun, in which is
said to create life and well being. He achieved the purpose by changing people s beliefs but soon
after he died, his ideas were abandoned and and people moved back to their original city. Even
though Akhenatens son tried to keep the religion going.

Akhenaten sees the sun as his one and only god and for example Christians they see God as their
one and only god. Aten is the sun god and Akhenaten walks the reader through his belief of what
his god does. The short story is trying to persuade the readers to worship Aten and become
monotheistic (which means to worship only one God, similar to Christianity). The poem is trying
to persuade the readers to pick a certain God they want to follow. So in comparison between the
short story and poem is to only worship one God.
This Hymn could take place at any point in time because Aten is everlasting. Even if there was a
great revelation happening, Akhenaten would attribute it to Aten. However, the setting would
change the entire tone of the hymn. This hymn deals with things that are new and glorious, but if
one were to change the setting to a revelation, it would deal with death and destruction. The only
major difference between the story and the poem is that in Rebellion you are free to choose what
god you would want to follow, but in the story Akhenaten forces his people to give up other gods
in order to only worship

Is Churchill A Risk Taker
Without question, you could say that Churchill was a risk taker, and not just the average joe at
risk taking but the risk taker where he puts everything on the line without even skipping a beat.
For example, in the Darkest Hour when he puts the lives of 4,000 men to intercept the entire
German army to save the lives of 300,000 was a huge risk. Although that risk was the result of
Operation Dynamo and was a huge success, there were other risks like pushing off the ideas of
peace treaties and disregarding what his war cabinet has to say to him. Throughout the film the
Darkest Hour Churchill makes many risky decisions but putting off the peace treaty negotiations
was probably his biggest risk of all. During that time in history, the possibility

The Importance Of My Senior Year Of High School
When thinking about my senior year of high school I start to think about a tradition that
happened every year with the senior class. It seems wired but the senior class always seemed to
be up to something every week. I remember thinking my Jr year the my senior class was gonna
change how people viewed us. I was so right.
You see every year before are home football game against Creighton Prep. Our schools for years
would be fighting back and forth. It got to the point where every year the week of the big game
the boys at Prep would walk into Westside and either are pools or our courage rock would be
covered in blue paint. I remember my senior year was the year that everything changed. We
where tired of prep always picking on us and Westside students where not allowed to retaliate. If
we where caught doing so we wouldn t be able to walk to the stage come graduation day.
Picture this. It was Thursday night around 8:30pm the setting was a high school football field. All
the lights where one and there where about 500 students on the field. The student had tents put up.
Some people just brought sleeping bags. You can see the football players throwing a football back
a forth. There where about 25 teacher that where there also just walking around and hanging out
with the students. There was the wrestling team and baseball boy protecting the entrances along
with some of the male teachers. It was a sight to see just knowing that us students where not going

Cuban Missile Crisis Research Paper
History is imperative to John F. Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev during the Cuban missile crisis of
1962.
John F. Kennedy happened to be the 35th and the youngest President to be elected in the history of
the United States. After Kennedy took office in 1961, he authorized the Bay of Pigs invasion,
which was led by the CIA and exiles from Cuba. Even with this, they were still unable to overthrow
Fidel Castro. The failure and the tensions the Soviet Union had in 1961 about the Berlin Crisis, set
the early events of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

A Research Study On Health
Abstract Health is the most important part of the existence, and is in today s age the most critical,
costly and time consuming area. People want to safeguard their health and take all the necessary
precautions all by themselves, moving to the healthcare facilities only at dire need. A leading
technology paradigm is the use of biosensors in quantifying the biological and physiological
parameters and transferring the result to a GUI for health monitoring without the assistance of any
healthcare personal. These biosensorenabled devices are becoming very popular in the masses as
they can themselves monitor their health. Biosensors coupled with the wireless technology offer
pervasive ubiquitous remote health monitoring and being extremely small enhances the user s
mobility with simultaneous monitoring. The work has discussed the biosensor structure and its
importance in healthcare. Various breakthroughs in the biosensor innovations have been listed. A
varied discussion about the integration of the wireless technology with the biosensors has been
done, emphasizing the importance of real time healthcare monitoring, and lastly a literature survey
for the above mentioned areas has been given.

The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is one of the most common knee injuries in female sports
today. The ACL is a ligament that attaches the femur and tibia to the knee allowing the knee to

When athletes tear their ACL there is a greater chance that they have hurt or another ligamentin their

Blindness Essay
More than one million Americans suffer from blindness, a severe vision impairment (Marcovitz
6). Blindness can be caused from an accident or a disease (10). One victim of blindness, Stevie
Wonder, has overcome it by making music and performing. His positive outlook on life helps him
achieve many things (79). Being blind means a person is sightless or is unable to distinguish dark
colors from light colors, but they can still overcome it (Dahl). Eye diseases, like glaucoma and
cataracts, can be causes of blindness. Symptoms of glaucoma may include headaches, pain in the
eyes, or blurry vision (Marcovitz... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In future technology, surgeries, such as implant surgery and transplantation of retinal tissue may
help blind people (Marcovitz 73, 76). In 1831 Perkins School for the Blind was the first school to
help blind people read, communicate, and speak. Later, Louis Braille discovered Braille, a code
using dots and dashes for the alphabet (34). When rubbing fingers across it, the markings
indicate certain numbers or letters (33). Guide dogs can also aid the blind when walking around
so they know where to go (45). Groups such as the American Foundation for the Blind and
National Federation of the Blind help provide assistance and new laws for blind people and their
families (41). Preventing eye disease and blindness is important. Wearing protective eyewear,
and practicing healthy habits like exercising and eating well (Marcovitz 68) can prevent
blindness. Getting regular eye exams (Worth) can also help detect it earlier as well (Dahl).
There are many people worldwide and in America who are blind. About fifty million people
around the world (Dahl) and over one million Americans (Marcovitz 6) are totally blind (Dahl).
Therefore, it is essential to take steps to prevent blindness. Stevie Wonder, one of the many
affected by blindness, was born on May 13, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan where his love for music
began. Wonder was born prematurely and has been blind since infancy because the blood vessels
in his eyes were not fully developed (Marcovitz 6) but, he believes

Essay Military Discipline
Military Discipline
1.General.The word discipline comes from the Latin word disciplД«na which means to instruct .
Discipline is a specific form of instruction which develops self control, character, and efficiency.
Military discipline is that mental attitude and state of training which renders obedience instinctive
under all conditions. It is founded upon respect for, and loyalty to properly constituted authority.
While it is developed primarily by military drill, every feature of military life has its effects on
military discipline. It is generally indicated in an individual or unit by smartness of appearance and
action; by cleanliness and neatness of dress, equipment, or quarters; by respect for seniors; and by

Maybe a whole squadron deserted its post. In this case, the court handed down the famous, the
ghastly, sentence of decimation. The tribune called the legion on parade and ordered to the front
those who were guilty of desertion of their ranks. He reprimanded them, called them every name
he could think of. This was not just another sermon. Everyone knew how it was going to end. Now
I want each of you to choose a number, he told them. And by lot one out of every ten men was
chosen to pay the penalty. What penalty? On the tribune s order, the army fell on these men their
comrades and clubbed them to death, mercilessly.
The rest of the guilty men were allowed to live, but possibly they thought death was preferable to
the humiliation they had to suffer then. They were told to quarter themselves outside the camp
walls, where they were unprotected; and they were given rations of barley horse food rather than
wheat for sustenance. Their disgrace would live as long as they did. But it isn t only your severe
punishments that produce right conduct, Polybius told the Romans. That alone wouldn t make
men brave. You encourage them to act heroically by holding out all kinds of rewards and

Unsolved Murder Case Summary
The case selected for this paper is that of the unsolved murders of a family of eight in Pike
County, Ohio on April 22, 2016. Eight members of the Rhoden family were found shot in the
head, execution style, at four separate crime scenes, also found at the crime scenes were three
small children; a four day old newborn baby, a six month old and a three year old, all three
children were unharmed (Valencia, 2017). Per news reports, seven of the eight victims were in
three homes while the eighth victim was found in a fourth home with the unharmed newborn baby

Deductive reasoning draws from specific conclusions of general principles (Bartol Bartol,
2010). Arrival at the crime scene and drawing theories from the scene would be the initial step of
deductive analysis. Forming a hypothesis from theories drawn at the scenes would follow. The
hypothesis here is; there are many aspects of this crime and unknown suspects that are obvious
such as the sophistication of the attacks and the fact that the young children were spared, this
alone aligns with criminals who are experienced and have a clear method of what they do.
Observation of the multiple crime scenes and the way in which the family was killed leads to,
this act of violence against this family showing as being business related and not personal. This
is based on the fact that the victims were shot execution style while sleeping in their beds
(Valencia, 2017). It is possible the marijuana grow operations are connected in some way to the
killings. Due to there being more than one crime scene within close proximity to each other, there
may be multiple assailants in this crime. The hypothesis drawn in this case can only be confirmed
after an arrest of a suspect is made, this case remains

Modern Film On Our Rational And Critical Thought Processes
Frankfurt School philosophers fiercely debated the effects of modern film on our rational and
critical thought processes. Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno assert film is an oppressive
technology that makes us intellectually docile, while Walter Benjamin contests their assertion by
recognizing film s liberatory potential. Although Horkheimer and Adorno make important points
about the current relationship between film and the masses, they fail to acknowledge any possible
changes to it. In the context of futurity, Benjamin presents a convincing argument the technology of
film can create subjectivities that will help the masses assimilate into modernity. Horkheimer and
Adorno s understanding of film reflects our current reality. Although Benjamin acknowledges film s
current state, he envisions a future where film trains us to cope with the pressures of modernity. In
The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception, Horkheimer and Adorno argue film
oppresses our ability to think critically. They base their argument on how culture today is infecting
everything with sameness (Horkheimer 94). That is, the ubiquitous nature of film infects everyone
with identically diseased notions. The connotations of infection are clear: affliction, contamination,
and disorder. For Horkheimer and Adorno, the infection (film created by the bourgeois cultural
elite) forces us into a state of mental lethargy the masses uniformly accept film content with little
resistance

Alliteration In The Wanderer And The Wife s Lament
Alliteration is defined as the repetition of initial consonant sounds in two or more neighboring
words or syllables. It is a literary device that authors use to bring attention to certain important
ideas or concepts in stories. Alliterations allow the reader to bring their senses together to hear
and feel what they are reading by bring in sounds of the world around us into literate. This helps
the reader visualize the story, therefore helping the reader to remember it. It is used in many stories
as a way to hide metaphors and other subliminal messages. For example, alliterations with the s
being the prominent sound could be visualized as a snake slithering, making a character have a
slyness about him. Specifically in Anglo Saxon literature, alliterationis significant because it is how
authors organized their poems or stories, includes repetition which aids memorization, and
emphasizes important parts of the text that the author wants the audience to know. Alliteration
in important in both The Wanderer and The Wife s Lament because it helps evoke certain
emotions and feelings by using the different functions of alliterative language. In Anglo Saxon
works of literature, alliterations are used with stresses to organize poems and to create a certain
flow. There are certain patterns that can be seen in the lines of poems, often containing four
stressed words with three of the word being alliterative and a caesura separating the four stresses
words in half. A simple example of this would be in line 94 of The Wanderer stating, Alas bright
beaker! Alas burnished warrior! The audience can almost feel the rhythm of the poem as they
read it or hear it told out loud. Having this structure in a poem also works with the language and
how it is spoken. It is hard to hear these patterns in translated versions due to other language
influences in the English we speak today. When I heard the original version of The Wanderer
spoken in Old English, the stressed words really stood out to me and the alliterative words were
clear. Listening to the mixture of the Old English language and the alliterative and stressed lines I
can feel the way the character in the stories feel. In the first few lines of The Wife s Lament

Whitlam Scandal In Australia
THE WHITLAM DISMISSAL The Constitutional dilemma of 1975, also referred to as The
Dismissal , was one of the most chaotic eras in Australia s political history. The Australian Labor
Party sailed to victory in the 1972 federal election and Gough Whitlam s government was ready to
propose and implement large numbers of bills and reform policies. After many successes in areas
including law reform, the relatively new Whitlam government constantly made mistakes and was
getting caught by the public and the opposition. Countering these scandals, the Liberal party
attempted to block all money bills from being passed in the Senate. The government was running
out of money to run the country. Gough Whitlam was dismissed on 11 November 1975 by the then

In 1974, this improved Senate was not helping the Whitlam government pass its money bills,
especially because of their reduced majority in the Upper house. Particularly six important money
bills, which need to be passed in order for the government to run the country, were each denied
twice. In a case like this the elected government can arrange a Double Dissolution, which
dissolves both the Upper and Lower houses and a vote is put to the people to elect an entirely
different parliament. A Double Dissolution was called by the Whitlam government in late 1974; it

Representatives. The Parliamentary Deadlock convention, existing in the Constitution, granted the
Whitlam government the power to call a joint sitting of parliament and (again) review the six
money bills that were all rejected prior to the dissolving of parliament. The Labor party had a
majority in the sitting and passed the six bills that they proposed. Gough Whitlam called the only

Precambrian Era Essay
The Precambrian is the name given for the first super eon of Earth s history (Mary Bagley,
Accessed: 20th Aug 2016). This era itself has been recorded to be about seven eighths of the
entire earth s history. This era stretches across from 4 Billion years ago up until only 543 Million
years ago (Mya) which shows how large and substantial this era was.
Precambrian itself refers to the time before the Cambrian period. It also refers to the entire period
of time before the formation of the oldest rocks with recognisable fossils. Lately, however, it has
been seen that some hard to distinguish fossils from in the Precambrian times have been found. The
Precambrian Era can be split into three eras: The Hadean, the Archean and also the Proterozoic. ...

Life on earth began in the early Archean and fossilized organisms became far more abundant
through the entirety of the Precambrian time.
Three billion years ago there was no traces of oxygen in the atmosphere, this caused no life to be
able to live on earth. At around 2.4 billion years, oxygen was beginning to be released in the
oceans as photosynthesis began in cyanobacteria. This process caused the gas levels to slowly
grow and eventually made up 1% of the earth s atmosphere at around 2 Bya. By 800 Mya,
oxygen levels reached around 20% which let organisms to slowly breathe to life. This spike in
oxygen also caused the earth s surface to be shielded from solar radiation. This was the start of the
first unicellular organisms.
The first multicelled animals started appearing in the records of fossils around 600 million years
ago. Fossils found at this time were known as Ediacarans and showed a very important time of
evolution for earth. Ediacara fauna was specifically named after the Ediacara hills in South
Australia in which they were discovered in the early 1900 s. These organisms even predate the
explosion of life forms at the beginning of the Cambrian

Computers have undergone many narratives of focus, from the hardware and software, to the

The recent trend in computer technology is to instead increase the number of cores in the
processor along with the transistors, to maintain proportional scaling of power. As a result,
architecture researchers have started focusing on100 core and 1000 core chips and related research
topics and called for changes to the undergraduate curriculum to solve the parallel programming
challenge for multicore designs at these scales (Esmaeilzadeh 2012). Upcoming chips will be
limited by power, thus higher core counts must provide performance gains despite the worsening
energy and speed scaling of transistors.

Obstfeld and Rogoff (1995) in The Mirage of fixed exchange rate attack the fixed exchange rate.
They encourage policy authorities to avoid relying for their credibility on an asset price

the advantages and disadvantages of floating and fixed exchange rate regimes. The possible
exchange rate regimes are on a flexibility continuum of exchange rate regimes which Frankel
(1999) describes in nine categories from the most rigid (the currency union) to the least (the clean
float):
1.The Currency Union: two or more countries share the same currency. If a country abandons its
own currency and circulates the anchor currency, it is called the Dollarization. It is not only
applied to usage of the US dollar, but generally to the use of any foreign currency as the national
currency. For example Ecuador, El Salvador and Panama are in a currency union with the US
dollar. It is the firmest fixed exchange rate regime.
2.The Currency Board: in contrast to a currency union, the country has its own currency at a fixed
rate of exchange. It maintains unlimited convertibility between its currency and the anchor
currency. In a currency board, the central bank must have enough foreign currency reserves to
response to the people s will to exchange their local currency and to be able to back each unit of

Rhetorical Analysis of The Truman Show
What I aim to do with this rhetorical analysis is bring forth to the reader a deeply immersive look
at the rhetorical concepts present in the film The Truman Show. It is important for a viewer to
fully understand the underlying messages and subtle undertones in between the lines, so to speak.
The Truman Show is one man s life being played out in a closed environment for the entertainment
of the outside world. Most important to note, Truman Burbank has no clue that his whole life has
been little more than just a television program produced on a grand scale to produce the image of
reality in a dome. The Truman Showblends ethos, logos, and pathos together in a symphony of self
discovery and power over an adversary, whether physical or... Show more content on

The ethos belongs to Christof, it is his character, allowing him to be the god. Truman is the
veritable Adam/Eve in Eden. When searching for self awareness and knowledge outside of the
Garden, his behavior is condemned by his God. Without Christof s undying credibility, he would
not be allowed to play God. Within the same scope of thinking, Truman has a limited amount of
choices he can make. This brings to light the true definition of free will and as to whether there
is a true definition to be heard. When given the choices only to walk left or walk right with the
absence of the ability to stay put, is choosing one of two inevitable ends really a choice
empowered by free will? The logos presented in the film rests with the true nature of Truman s
free will, or lack thereof. In a scripted world of thespians and set pieces, all with a certain purpose
in mind, how can an individual exist with free will? Truman has decisions thrust upon him and
they are driven into him by the guilt he possesses from the death of his father. When Truman
confronts his mother with a desire to shake up the status quo, to get out of his snow globe, he is
tamed with the simple reminder that he is responsible for his father s death. What s so elegant and
beautiful about the sinister nature of it all is that it s hidden within the context of a cleverly crafted
conversation. A simple, I never blamed

There are differences between hearing and deaf cinema. When you watch a deaf movie, there is
no build up of tension, because there is no dramatic music, things just happen suddenly. The
group of us watching this movie actually screamed because we got caught off guard. The actors
also use a lot more expression, which adds more quality to the movie. Hearing actors usually
have a dead face, no matter what they are saying. On the other hand, deaf use their bodies more
and their facial expressions. I also caught a line where he Rex told Troy he better stop telling
him what to do, or he will cut off his hands. I found this extremely interesting, because this is the
deaf equivalent to the hearing line, Put a sock in it. They are both used to tell people to shut up;
however, you cannot shove a sock in a deaf person s mouth because they can still sign. If you cut

Metacarpi Reflection
The screenplay Metacarpi is the story of an institutionalized pianist and a lion aspiring friend
whose pursuit of freedom explores ideas of whether we might be happier in an institution if it
allows us to truly be ourselves.
When coming up with the story for the script, I first created the character of Dmitriy and the story
grew out of his character. A simple characterization of Dmitriy is a man struggling to free himself,
whose aura of grandeur and potential for greatness is lost on his environment. Out of this came the
idea of an institutionalized pianist who wants to perform the perfect performance. As the story
grew I added the characters of Sonja, the sister who desperately wants to get her brother out of the
institution, Berta the nun who is the cause of Dmitriy s daily irritation due to her ... Show more

It is through their actions and visual appearance that I chose to show their characteristics. An
example of this would be that at no point in the script does George verbally express that he wants
to dress up as or be a lion, he just does it without talking about it. Instead of explaining it or
mentioning it in dialogue, we have the visual images of George with the lion s mane, George
with the painted on whiskers, and George with the permanently attached stuffed lion tail. The
visual suffices to suggest to the audience that George enjoys dressing up as a lion. The visual was
crucial for the portrayal of Dmitriy s character. I found visual detail allowed me to reveal more
about Dmitriy than the dialogue could. It was also served to represent his journey. The fragile gaunt
Dmitriy in the brocade dressing gown with the bloodied knuckles, barefoot, who becomes the
beaming, tailcoat clad, barefoot Dmitriy. The self isolating Dmitriy who observes his sister through
a window rather than meeting with her, who becomes the embracing brother. These images allow
for a visual representation of Dmitriy s change and

Speaking Of The Unspoken Places
When things are hidden from the public, or if the public is not aware of something, it is left
untold. This happens to many events and people throughout history. According to Chimamanda
Ngozi Adichie s speech, The Danger of a Single Story, we need multiple stories so one is not
veiled by the single story. When there is only one side of a story, the other side is unspoken.
Once the other half is not made visible, it dehumanizes the people who are a part of the unspoken
story. They become places, things, and people that are forgotten. Martin Espada wrote in Speaking
of the Unspoken Places in Poetry, that sometimes these places are unspoken because unspeakable
things happen there. September 11, 2001 was a tragic day for many people. Hundreds... Show more

It generated a loss of identity for women and men. There are many instances in the book that
support this notion. This is especially seen when the narrator uses the game of checkers as a
metaphor for how the lives of the slaves were handled. Baby Suggs, one of the prominent
characters in the novel, lived an underprivileged life as many of the slaves. She was a slave
woman whose son worked extra hours to buy her out of slavery. The narrator says, in all of Baby
s life, as well as Sethe s own, men and women were moved around like checkers. Anybody Baby
Suggs knew, let alone loved, who hadn t run off or been hanged, got rented out, loaned out,

Rhetorical Strategies In The Antiwar Protest
The Antiwar Protest of the late 1950s and early 1960s was a successful protest movement that
utilized effective protest politics as defined by Zoe Trodd in her book, American Protest Literature.
The effectiveness of the protest was due to the movement causing the American public to challenge
their belief in the nation s leaders capacity to provide unquestionable truths and due to the protest
placing a colossal amount of powerful pressure on the nation s leaders.(Zimmerman) Many
historians believe the success of the protest led to a change in policy and a change in the American
public s view of politicians.(Zimmerman)
The Antiwar Protest began in the late 1950s and early 1960s.(Zimmerman) The protest effort was
centered around two groups: peace groups formed by left wing activists that opposed the Cold War
and America s interference in other countries and a group of students that felt the government was
high handed and unjust, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). (Zimmerman) These groups had
a mission to educate the public about Vietnam and convert large amounts of Americans around to
their antiwar agenda.(Zimmerman) Early on, the groups formulated a plan to bring about the
change they sought by using the press, literature, music, and the public domain.(Zimmerman) The
Antiwar Protest used three rhetorical strategies: empathy, shock value, and symbolic
actions.(Trodd) Of the three strategies, the movement relied most heavily on shock value. Bill

Charlie Gordon s Success In Flowers For Algernon By Daniel...
The true method of knowledge is experiment. William Blake. Charlie Gordon was an adequate
choice for the scientists, Dr. Strous and Dr. Nemur, to choose since Charlie s gains from the
surgery overrides his loses. The surgery was to try and triple Charlie Gordan s IQ from 68 to 204,
which was a success. Charlie indeed gained several things from his surgery including:
understanding of true friendship, emotional maturity, and he finally got his dream come true. In
Flowers for Algernonby Daniel Keyes, the doctors made a great choice for picking Charlie Gordan
as their test subject.
One way that Dr. Strous and Dr. Demur did an amazing job in their decision for their test subject,

So, without the surgery he probably would not have gotten where he was with an IQ of 204
starting at only 68 in a matter of weeks. What a dope I am! I didn t even understand what she was

his decreasing intelligence is that he died. While dying is not a good thing alone it does not strain
from the fact that he died finally achieving something that he spent his whole life trying to reach.
So, instead of dying from a life searching but never really achieving. He died a life where he
succeeded his dream. Other people say that this human sacrifice was unsafe and that no one knows
about it since even the doctors told Charlie not to tell anyone that he was getting the surgery. Well,
that is not true. All human exposure studies conducted by EPA scientists are independently

Australian Army s Digitised System
The evolution of digitised and networking capability within the Australian Army is a multi
staged activity that will affect all aspects of the way Army operates as part of the Joint Force.
Digitised systems provide a means to execute command and control from Brigade HQ to the
Battle Group (BG) HQ. The provision of enhanced digitised systems will greatly assist the closing
of digitisation gaps, in particular for Brigades entering the Readying phase of the FGC and will
ensure the effective fulfilment of a Brigadeto BG digital backbone.
The Australian Amy s Hardened and Networked Army model saw an extensive and ever evolving

Using a contemporary example of a multi role manoeuvre Combat Brigade within the Australian
Army, the 1st Brigade is in the preliminary stages of digital development under Land 200. Nested
under the 1st Brigade s Digitisation Plan, the Brigade employs BMS as the primary means of
C2 within a mobile battlespace as part of its Readying Phase exercise series. The 1st Brigade
faces various challenges a key one being the distances it is required to cover within its vast
training areas, and more significantly, it remains the last priority for the project Land 200 roll
out timeline meaning it is yet to fully acquire digitised systems across all direct command units.
Utilising BMS during its training activities will test and validate BMS linkages between Bde and
BG level over significant distances and while on the move. This will inform the further
development of BMS from BG to CT level across Army. In terms of the provision of CSS, this
improvement in C2 will undergo further validation of the Brigade s ability to plan, communicate
and execute CSS tasks from the Brigade Maintenance Area (BMA) down to CT

Denver Airport Baggage Handling System Case Study
Synopsis
Dysfunctional decision making is the poison that kills technology projects and the Denver Airport
Baggage System project in the 1990 s is a classic example. Although several case studies have
been written about the Denver project, the following paper re examines the case by looking at the
key decisions that set the project on the path to disaster and the forces behind those decisions.
Background
What was to be the world s largest automated airport baggage handling system, became a classic
story in how technology projects can go wrong. Faced with the need for greater airport capacity,

Symbolism In The Film Adaptation Of Fences
In the movie adaptation of Fences, the character Gabriel Maxson is a psychologically damaged
man who carries a trumpet throughout the movie. He would eventually be accidently
institutionalized by his brother Troy Maxson. An appealing aspect of the movie is its use of
symbolism, such as Gabriel s trumpet. This damage to Gabriel s mind caused him to believe he is
not human but the angel Gabriel. The trumpet physically represents Gabriel s delusions because the
archangel Gabriel uses his trumpet to announce the Judgment Day. The topic of Judgment Day is
constantly mumbled by Gabriel throughout the movie and he eventually uses the trumpet to open
the gates for Troy Maxson. Gabriel s interactions with Rose are less tense compared to the
interactions between Gabriel and his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, they are siblings, Troy acts a lot like Gabriel s father and continues to treat him like a
child instead of an adult who is capable of living alone. I think Gabriel s childish and carefree
nature is supposed to contrast Troy s cynical nature and perspective on life. Gabriel is rarely
upset in the movie and this is because he is not mentally stable, so perhaps the writers wanted to
show that in reality, you have to go insane in order to fully cope and be optimistic about the
reality you are living in. In a way, Gabriel represents the idea of ignorance is bliss because he
cannot fully understand the world around him; he is able to be happy. If I were able to study the
movie in depth, I would most likely pursue the usage of colors and lighting throughout the movie. I
know that the movie Psycho utilized the set and the imagery of the set to also tell the story so I

The Disease Of Alzheimer s Disease
Alzheimer s Disease Alzheimer s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in America. It kills

changes in the brain of a woman who died of an unusual mental. Her symptoms included memory
loss, language problems, and unpredictable behavior. Doctor s now look at brain scans to see
abnormal changes in the brain. Doctors may ask questions both to the patient and a family member
of the patient, such as, over all health, past medical problems, ability to carry out daily activities,
and changes in behavior and personality. They also might conduct tests of memory, problem
solving, attention, counting, and language Figure 1: Left side is a normal brain, middle is mild

The Importance Of Cultural Humility In Nursing
According to Shaw (2017), there is a strong positive correlation between a client s perspective of the
counselor s level of cultural humility and client outcomes (p.1). Similarly, when family members
perceive the nursing staff as culturally humble, there may be a much improved patient family nurse
communication. Watkins (2015) states that as we strive toward a better contextualization and a
healthy internationalization of all social sciences, in general, and the psychological concepts, tools,
methods, and therapeutic skills, in particular, let us do these with full hermeneutic integrity,
professional sensitivity, and cultural humility. Surely, the results will be more effective, the
experiences more meaningful, and the newfound relationships more rewarding. These represent
surely the attributes of individuals demonstrating cultural humility (p.5). They are as follow:
Effectiveness: the degree to which something is successful in producing a desired result; success.
adequate to accomplish a purpose; producing the intended or expected result: ( Miriam Webster,
2017).
Meaningful: having a serious, important, or useful quality or purpose. ( Miriam Webster, 2017).
Rewarding: providing satisfaction; gratifying. ( Miriam Webster, 2017).
Related Terms
Genuine humility fosters good relationships with others and contributes to emotional security and
stability. Cultural humility is an ongoing process of critiquing one s own culture while striving to

Comparing Ligeia And The Raven
In Poe s poem The Raven , and the short story Ligeia, the author use of symbols explores the
different elements in both of the gothic works to build a dreary and gloomy ambiance and mood.
The Raven and Ligeia are both about loss and grief; the narrators, both have lost a woman of
incomparable talents and beauty. The author, Poe uses the ravenand the bust of Pallas in the poem
The Raven , to show the grief of loneliness and separation of the narrator whose heart years for his

the middle of a bleak December night. This scene is significant in setting up the dreary
atmosphere, because as the narrator opens the door to his chamber and he is hit by darkness. In
the hopes of forgetting Lenore, the narrator gains his confidence to assume that the knock on the
door was nothing, but the wind, however, his wandering thoughts take him back to Lenore. He
hears another tap at his window lattice, and this time a raven perched upon a bust of Pallas just

Braime (2012), Social media is an essential marketing tool. Not only can it expose your work to a
world wide audience, but it also gives you a chance to convert those audience members into paying
clients. (para. 1). The choice to move to social media advertising is an appropriate choice to connect
with families and professionals to get word out about McBride Financial Services.
Radio and television advertisements focus on a wide variety of age groups. They break down the
schedule to show shows at different times. The Prime Times are from 7PM to 9PM when families
can watch a show together. They strategically place particular advertising to market to these
individuals. Research must be done in order to determine which television and radio stations have
the highest volume of listeners and viewers that fit this genre.
Newspaper advertisements focus on individuals that are around the retirement age and will only
be effective in areas that have a high population of individuals that fit into this age group. Research
into various areas to see where these target populations are highest will be important to determine
where to advertise as well as in which newspapers, and then McBride Financial Services will see
the business from the retiree targets draw to them.
Internet advertisements should be done strategically using niche marketing. This is a process of
advertising a service or product on certain websites that potential clients would be viewing.

Benefits Of A Executive Compensation
Introduction
Over a long period of time, many shareholders in various companies have been complaining about
the high executive compensation in the companies. They believe that such executives are draining
the resources of such companies at the expense of the shareholders.
Despite the non binding votes from the shareholders against high levels of executive pay, many
companies have given a deaf ear to them. Reduction of executive compensation has been a major
challenge to many companies. There are various impediments in effecting a reduction in executive
compensation.
Hiring and retaining top caliber executives. In the modern cut throat competition business world,
companies are looking for the best executives, who can lead the company into success. To achieve
such an objective, companies have to offer higher executive compensation.
In addition, so as to retain the best executives who are still working for the company, there is need
to maintain a higher level of executive pay, otherwise such top talent will be lured away by other
companies. This may have the adverse effects of leading the company into poor performance, and
consequently, failure. Therefore, it is paramount that executive compensation is maintained at its
best for the overall good of the company ((Hartzell Starks, 2003).
Reinforcement of succession planning process. It is important that an organization prepares top
notch executives to take over leadership of the company in the future. Without

Sacrifice In Modern And Ancient Societies
Life is full of inexhaustible possibilities, though in order to convert a possibility into a reality,
common day people have to make decisions. Often times, people would coin this as a sacrifice.
Whether it be for religious purposes, non religious sacrifices are made each day around the world.
Religious examples would be when people refuse to seek medical attention when ill because they
believe that Godwill heal them if they are meant to be cured, some people will even try to mimic
sacrifices the Holy Bible writes about. An example of a non religious sacrificewould be when

people who follow the religion of Hindu will make human sacrifices, as well as animal sacrifices,
to please their Gods and bring them good luck. These types of sacrifices are more common in
nations such as India and various countries throughout Africa and the most practice form of
sacrifices are far more nonbelligerent; such as a person s church, or place where they practice
their religion, closes so they move to where a new one could be found. In doing so, this person
will be sacrificing their current lives to start a new one, in some cases, far away. Although,

Thinking about diversity and inclusion
1. What are the dimensions of cultural diversity? Identify and briefly explain the dimensions by
referencing both textbooks.
The dimensions of cultural diversity consist of in the diverse cultures in the world. The diversity is
the different race, gender, age, ethical, language, religion, education, and more. The geographic
region and the social roll are the result of the cultural diversity in the world. The diversity is

Participants companies at this market are well known enterprises and also they own some of the better known brands like GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota, VW, BMW etc. In the traditional auto industry, consumer power is relatively high, given relatively low switching costs and a vast choice of relatively substitutable products. Quite simply, people want to work with him and they believe in his vision and are inspired by his passion. In an interview for this paper, an employee who elected to remain anonymous claimed there is a saying at SpaceX No matter how hard you work, someone else is working harder one might imagine who that someone else is. His emphasis on loyalty and hard work allows a certain level of independence for employees. There are two perspectives to consider in quantifying success. The first is from the perspective of the company s owners which are shareholders. From the investors perspective quantifying success is quite easy. Anyone who bought Tesla s stock at its IPO at $17 in July of 2010 would have more than quintupled their money as of May 2013, when the stock traded at $87. • 3. The Peasants Revolt The knightly Wadsley family were the lords of the manor. They hunted deer on Loxley Chase, and fletchers (arrow makers) lived on Loxley Common. Richard Grafton, printer to Edward VI tells us Robin Hood was descended of a noble parentage, * thereby explaining his prowess with sword and bow due to the training received by children of the nobility. Dodsworth s comment that his mother kept him after he killed his stepfather and fled into the woods, suggests he was young and looked after by a nanny or servants. Changing his name from Robert Dore to Robert Hood and absconding from court would make him a fugitive and an outlaw. Later, Robin and the citizens of York rebelled against the unpopular lord mayor in the Peasants Revolt. The mayors name was John Gisbourne.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ohlgren wrote, The urban guilds, including the master guilds or Great Livery Companies set the policies and practices of Robin s guild or fellowship.... The parallels between guild policies and practices and specific scenes in the Geste are compelling, offering convincing evidence that the audience would not only recognize the mercantile allusions, but also appreciate the yeoman hero proving himself superior to the knightly class. The king owed his comely appearance to the skill and craftsmanship of the guilds, one of which was Robin s guild. The patron saint of the drapers guild was the Virgin Mary, who Robin loved and whose name was often on his lips. A charitable organisation known as the guild of Our Lord Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary cared for the widows and orphans of their deceased members. These people were destitute and tradition has it that Robin gave to the poor what he took from the rich. They would include the wicked churchmen, his clients as a merchant, services rendered to his lord, king and country, and if Robin was a knight as seems likely, then rich pickings were available from ransom money and ... • 6. KV Pharmaceuticals Case Study Essay Introduction Business ethics is an extremely important topic in our world today. This is especially true because of the fact that we live in a changing society where it has become increasingly common to see more and more cases of companies that participate in illegal, immoral and unethical activities. So that we can prevent these behaviors, it is necessary to study and understand how these situations can occur and what we can do to prevent them from happening. In this research paper, we will examine in detail the case of KV Pharmaceuticals, also known as KV. We will discuss a few major areas of topic that include how and why these events took place, as well as what could have been done to prevent them. Next, we will take a look at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One month later, KV decided to recall some of the morphine sulfate it had distributed, and it also filed a field alert report to the FDA informing them about their recall. KV immediately began an internal investigation of their manufacturing process and their products; the investigation revealed that not only were the morphine sulfate pills oversized, but the propafenone and dextroamphetamine sulfate tablets as well. These oversized tablets can result in the patients receiving almost twice the amount of the recommended dose, which can lead to fatal consequences. Propafenone is an anti arrhythmic medication that treats illnesses associated with heart palpitations. An overdose can cause low blood pressure or heart palpitations which may lead to death. Dextroamphetamine sulfate is used to treat narcolepsy, ADHD in children, epilepsy and parkinsonism; an overdose can lead to fatal poisoning (KV Pharmaceutical, 2010). The complaints led to the inspection of KV by the FDA from December 2008 to February 2009; the inspection results confirmed that KV Pharmaceuticals had a considerable amount of cGMP violations, and even then they decided to manufacture unapproved drugs. While conducting the inspection, the FDA also realized that ETHEX had never filed the field alert reports concerning the oversized propafenone and dextroamphetamine sulfate tablets, which is required under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. As most of a child s communication happens at home it is vital that close links are made between professionals and family members/carers and to look at ways of supporting the child or young person at home. If a child or young person needs more than the support of the school environment, then a multi agency team will be involved. This would involve the child s teacher, teaching assistant, the school SENCO, qualified and experienced professionals, for example Speech and Language Therapists and most importantly parents. This might be through a recognized programme such as the Nuffield Dyspraxia Programme, Language through Reading or Social Use of Language Programme, or through a combination of approaches tailored to suit the individual child or young person. A child or young person with speech, language and communication delay will usually have a Multi Element Plan (M.E.P.). If they do not seem to be making enough progress or they need a lot of extra help the school SENCO will contact the Local Authority and ask them to carry out a statutory assessment. Aten is the sun god and Akhenaten walks the reader through his belief of what his god does. The poem is trying to persuade the readers to pick a certain God they want to follow. So in comparison between the short story and poem is to only worship one God. This Hymn could take place at any point in time because Aten is everlasting. Even if there was a great revelation happening, Akhenaten would attribute it to Aten. However, the setting would change the entire tone of the hymn. This hymn deals with things that are new and glorious, but if one were to change the setting to a revelation, it would deal with death and destruction. People want to safeguard their health and take all the necessary precautions all by themselves, moving to the healthcare facilities only at dire need. A leading technology paradigm is the use of biosensors in quantifying the biological and physiological parameters and transferring the result to a GUI for health monitoring without the assistance of any healthcare personal. These biosensorenabled devices are becoming very popular in the masses as they can themselves monitor their health. Biosensors coupled with the wireless technology offer pervasive ubiquitous remote health monitoring and being extremely small enhances the user s mobility with simultaneous monitoring. The work has discussed the biosensor structure and its importance in healthcare. Various breakthroughs in the biosensor innovations have been listed. A varied discussion about the integration of the wireless technology with the biosensors has been done, emphasizing the importance of real time healthcare monitoring, and lastly a literature survey for the above mentioned areas has been given. Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno assert film is an oppressive technology that makes us intellectually docile, while Walter Benjamin contests their assertion by recognizing film s liberatory potential. Although Horkheimer and Adorno make important points about the current relationship between film and the masses, they fail to acknowledge any possible changes to it. In the context of futurity, Benjamin presents a convincing argument the technology of film can create subjectivities that will help the masses assimilate into modernity. Horkheimer and Adorno s understanding of film reflects our current reality. Although Benjamin acknowledges film s current state, he envisions a future where film trains us to cope with the pressures of modernity. In The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception, Horkheimer and Adorno argue film oppresses our ability to think critically. They base their argument on how culture today is infecting everything with sameness (Horkheimer 94). That is, the ubiquitous nature of film infects everyone with identically diseased notions. • 27. Alliteration In The Wanderer And The Wife s Lament Alliteration is defined as the repetition of initial consonant sounds in two or more neighboring words or syllables. It is a literary device that authors use to bring attention to certain important ideas or concepts in stories. Alliterations allow the reader to bring their senses together to hear and feel what they are reading by bring in sounds of the world around us into literate. This helps the reader visualize the story, therefore helping the reader to remember it. It is used in many stories as a way to hide metaphors and other subliminal messages. For example, alliterations with the s being the prominent sound could be visualized as a snake slithering, making a character have a slyness about him. Specifically in Anglo Saxon literature, alliterationis significant because it is how authors organized their poems or stories, includes repetition which aids memorization, and emphasizes important parts of the text that the author wants the audience to know. Alliteration in important in both The Wanderer and The Wife s Lament because it helps evoke certain emotions and feelings by using the different functions of alliterative language. In Anglo Saxon works of literature, alliterations are used with stresses to organize poems and to create a certain flow. There are certain patterns that can be seen in the lines of poems, often containing four stressed words with three of the word being alliterative and a caesura separating the four stresses words in half. A simple example of this would be in line 94 of The Wanderer stating, Alas bright beaker! Alas burnished warrior! The audience can almost feel the rhythm of the poem as they read it or hear it told out loud. Having this structure in a poem also works with the language and how it is spoken. It is hard to hear these patterns in translated versions due to other language influences in the English we speak today. When I heard the original version of The Wanderer spoken in Old English, the stressed words really stood out to me and the alliterative words were clear. Listening to the mixture of the Old English language and the alliterative and stressed lines I can feel the way the character in the stories feel. In the first few lines of The Wife s Lament ... The possible exchange rate regimes are on a flexibility continuum of exchange rate regimes which Frankel (1999) describes in nine categories from the most rigid (the currency union) to the least (the clean float): 1.The Currency Union: two or more countries share the same currency. If a country abandons its own currency and circulates the anchor currency, it is called the Dollarization. Within the same scope of thinking, Truman has a limited amount of choices he can make. This brings to light the true definition of free will and as to whether there is a true definition to be heard. When given the choices only to walk left or walk right with the absence of the ability to stay put, is choosing one of two inevitable ends really a choice empowered by free will? Metacarpi Reflection The screenplay Metacarpi is the story of an institutionalized pianist and a lion aspiring friend whose pursuit of freedom explores ideas of whether we might be happier in an institution if it allows us to truly be ourselves. When coming up with the story for the script, I first created the character of Dmitriy and the story grew out of his character. A simple characterization of Dmitriy is a man struggling to free himself, whose aura of grandeur and potential for greatness is lost on his environment. Out of this came the idea of an institutionalized pianist who wants to perform the perfect performance. As the story grew I added the characters of Sonja, the sister who desperately wants to get her brother out of the institution, Berta the nun who is the cause of Dmitriy s daily irritation due to her ... Instead of explaining it or mentioning it in dialogue, we have the visual images of George with the lion s mane, George with the painted on whiskers, and George with the permanently attached stuffed lion tail. The visual suffices to suggest to the audience that George enjoys dressing up as a lion. The visual was crucial for the portrayal of Dmitriy s character. I found visual detail allowed me to reveal more about Dmitriy than the dialogue could. It was also served to represent his journey. The fragile gaunt Dmitriy in the brocade dressing gown with the bloodied knuckles, barefoot, who becomes the beaming, tailcoat clad, barefoot Dmitriy. The self isolating Dmitriy who observes his sister through a window rather than meeting with her, who becomes the embracing brother. This happens to many events and people throughout history. According to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie s speech, The Danger of a Single Story, we need multiple stories so one is not veiled by the single story. When there is only one side of a story, the other side is unspoken. Once the other half is not made visible, it dehumanizes the people who are a part of the unspoken story. There are many instances in the book that support this notion. This is especially seen when the narrator uses the game of checkers as a metaphor for how the lives of the slaves were handled. Baby Suggs, one of the prominent characters in the novel, lived an underprivileged life as many of the slaves. She was a slave woman whose son worked extra hours to buy her out of slavery. The narrator says, in all of Baby s life, as well as Sethe s own, men and women were moved around like checkers. The effectiveness of the protest was due to the movement causing the American public to challenge their belief in the nation s leaders capacity to provide unquestionable truths and due to the protest placing a colossal amount of powerful pressure on the nation s leaders.(Zimmerman) Many historians believe the success of the protest led to a change in policy and a change in the American public s view of politicians.(Zimmerman) The Antiwar Protest began in the late 1950s and early 1960s.(Zimmerman) The protest effort was centered around two groups: peace groups formed by left wing activists that opposed the Cold War and America s interference in other countries and a group of students that felt the government was high handed and unjust, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). (Zimmerman) These groups had a mission to educate the public about Vietnam and convert large amounts of Americans around to their antiwar agenda.(Zimmerman) Early on, the groups formulated a plan to bring about the change they sought by using the press, literature, music, and the public domain.(Zimmerman) The Antiwar Protest used three rhetorical strategies: empathy, shock value, and symbolic actions.(Trodd) Of the three strategies, the movement relied most heavily on shock value.
