Many years ago, I heard someone say be true to yourself so I quit eating meat. I had wanted to
for a while, but it s hard to go against the grain; to do other than what our culture tells us is
normal . When I was growing up the hippies from the 60 s were still weirdo s so that s what I
learned was the definition of weird. Since those weird hippies were vegetarians I didn t want to be
that. But sometimes it only takes finally listening to something we ve heard a million times.
My choice was partially a dietary choice. I told myself that if I didn t eat the meat I would have to

that it was this officer that was using the computer to access these websites. When confronted
with this information, the officer then admits to the wrongdoing but claims he will never do it
again. This officer has only been in trouble once before over ten years ago for a traffic violation

Vampire genre will have the theme good vs. evil where the hero represents good and the villain
represents evil. This is consistent in Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Buffy is the hero and the evil

There is something unusual about the villain in this episode of Buffy in so much as she has
taken on the body of an innocent teenage boy called Ben meaning Buffy faces a moral dilemma
(moral dilemmas are typical of this genre) when trying to eradicate Glory s threat. Buffy decides
she cannot take a human life (Ben) even if it ensures the safety of the world proving her to be a
hero that holds a strong grip on her morals. However, another group member ; Giles who from
his appearance looks clever takes a different course of action to the problem; he decides the only
way is to kill Glory/Ben and with this he slowly suffocates the severely injured Ben . This
provides the audience with a tear jerking moment. Typical stock characters of a horror film
include Vampires, Goblins, Zombies and innocent Victims. In this episode of Buffy we see only

Over the past decade school violence has been on the rise. School violence has always existed in
some form or another, whether it is a fight out on the playground or a stabbing in the parking lot.
However nothing got the nation s attentions like on April 20, 1999, Columbine school shooting.
Ever since that day the nation wants to know what to do to protect the kids in this country. Violence
motivated by a bias against victims characteristics which include race, religion, ethnic background,
national origin, gender, or sexual orientation, represents a serious threat to all communities. Experts
estimate that a bias related crime is committed every 14 minutes. Criminal justice officials and state
policy makers need to realize that it is key to make or adjust hate crime legislation. This has been a

Functional Theory In American History X
In the 1998 film American History X, Derek Vineyard is paroled after serving 3 years in prison
for brutally murdering two black men who were breaking into his truck. Through his Brother
Danny s narration of a paper he is writing, it is learned that Derek was the leader of a large Neo
Nazi group known as D.O.C., or Disciples of Christ, that committed many acts of racial crime
throughout Los Angeles. During his time in prison Derek decides that hate is a waste of time
after being violently raped by fellow white supremacists, and his only friend being a black man,
who was only in prison for a misunderstanding. After getting out on parole, Derek learns that Danny
is headed down the same racist path as him, and decided that he must put a stop to it. Throughout
this film there are many examples of the five theories of deviance; Functional, Conflict, Labeling,
Broken Windows, and Differential Association. From Derek s initial exposure to racism, all the way
to him deciding to change, all five theories are exemplified through Derek, Danny, their Father,
Cameron, or the D.O.C. as a whole. To being, this movie shows Functional Theory by clarifying
rules, bringing groups together, and eventually promoting social change. By Derek being sent to
