EGG OSMOSIS
EXPERIMENT
PURPOSE
To observe osmosis in a
cell.
• 1) Place eggs in
vinegar to help
remove the shell.
• Measure the weight of
the egg.
• Measure the size of
the egg.
PURPOSE
• After place egg into
water.
• Than take the other
egg and place that in
corn syrup.
• Than wait, and
measure and weigh
again.
HYPOTHESIS
• Corn syrup egg:
 Size : Is going to stay
the same
 Weight: Going to stay
the same
 Looks: Going to look
gross ( brown&
mushy)
HYPOTHESIS
 Water egg:
 Size: Get smaller
Weight: Changes 10
down
 Looks: The same
MATERIALS
- Vinegar
- Corn syrup
- 2 eggs
- Balance
- Measuring tape and
string
- Water
- 2 beakers
OBSERVATIONS
Corn
Syrup
Egg
Before:
W- 64.9g
S- 16.0 cm
After:
W- 35.3g
S- 13.0cm
Water
Egg
Before:
W- 64.8g
S- 16.5cm
After:
W- 83.3g
S- 18cm
• 1) Bubbles coming off the
top of the egg.
2) Eggs are floating.
3) After 48 hours there is a
lot of foam.
4) The skim is gone :
-it is soft
-jelly like
-squishy.
5) After the corn syrup egg
sat for 48 hours ( 2 days):
-soft
-soggy
-brownish
6) Water egg looks short a
transparent and bigger.
CONCLUSION
Corn Syrup Egg:
 Egg got smaller.
 The egg got had higher
concentration than corn
syrup.
 Water moved ( from higher
concentration to low
concentration)
 Water left egg
Water Egg:
 Got bigger.
 Water entered egg.
 Water had higher
concentration than egg.
CONCLUSION HYPOTHESIS
• Corn syrup egg:
• Weight: Wrong, because I
thought that I egg was going to
stay the same in weight but
after it got smaller.
• Size: Wrong also, because I
thought that the egg was
going to stay the same in size.
• Looks: Right, because I said
that it was going to look gross,
brown, and mushy.
CONCLUSION HYPOTHESIS
• Water egg:
• Weight: Wrong, because I
said that it was going to get
smaller but than it got bigger.
• Size: Wrong, because I said
that it was going to get smaller
but than it got bigger.
• Looks: Right, because it
looked the same.
