Egg Osmosis Experiment
Paige Blanca
8-17
Purpose
• 1) To observe osmosis in a cell
• 2) Place eggs in vinegar to
remove the shell
• 3) Measure the weight of the
eggs using a balance
• 4) Place 1 egg in corn syrup
and the other in water
• 5) Weigh and measure the
eggs again
Hypothesis
Corn Syrup Egg
• Weigh more because syrup is
going into it
• Get bigger or larger in size
• Change its colour to the colour
of the syrup
Hypothesis
Water Egg
• Weigh more because the water
is going into it
• The size will stay the same
Materials
Materials used:
• Eggs
• 2 beakers
• Corn syrup
• Vinegar
• Water
• Balance
• String
• Measuring tape
Observations
Before After
Corn Syrup
Egg
Weight: 71.3
Size: 17cm
Weight: 48.8
Size: 13cm
H20 (water) Weight: 62.2
Size: 14cm
Weight: 77.0
Size: 18.5
Observations
After Vinegar After syrup 24hrs After Water 24hrs
- Bubbles coming up
- Eggs at the bottom
- Squishy
- Floating
- Puffy
- Bubbles
- Floating
Conclusion
Water Egg-
• Water moved in, egg got larger
• Egg had lower water
concentration than the water
• The water moved from higher
(water) to lower concentration.
(corn syrup)
Conclusion
Corn Syrup Egg-
• Water moved out, egg got
smaller
• Egg had higher concentration
than corn syrup
• Water moved from higher
(egg) to lower concentration
(corn syrup)
Conclusion
Corn Syrup Egg
• Wrong about the size of the corn syrup egg
• Wrong about the weight of the corn syrup egg
• Right about the appearance of the corn syrup egg
Water Egg
• Wrong about the size of the water egg
• Right about the weight of the water egg
• Right about the appearance of the water egg
