2. PURPOSE
To observe osmosis in a cell
Place eggs in vinegar to remove the
shell
Place egg in vinegar
Measure the weight of the egg
using a balance
Measure the size of the egg using
string and measuring tape
Weight and measure the eggs again
3. HYPOTHESIS
Corn syrup egg Water egg
Weight- I think that Bob will get Weight- I think that Steve will be
smaller in weight more in weight
Size- I think that Bob will get Size- I think that Steve will be
smaller in size bigger in size
Looks- I think it will look a little Looks – I think that Steve will look
smaller like it’s bigger and like jelly.
5. OBSERVATIONS
1)There is bubbles rising to the top of
the egg
2)More bubbles at the top and eggs
are floating
3)Eggs are still floating and has foam
forming at the top
6. OBSERVATION
Before After
4) After staying in corn syrup for 24
hours , the egg looks shriveled up
Corn Syrup W: 67 g W: 44g
Egg
S: 16.1 cm S: 13.2 cm
Water W: 77.4 g W: 91.9 g 5) After sitting in water for 24
Egg hours the eggs have sunk and look
S: 16 cm S:17.5 cm
larger
7. CONCLUSION
Water Egg
Got larger
Lower concentration
Went from high concentration to low
concentration
Syrup Egg
Got smaller
Water moved out of the egg
Went from low to high concentration
8. CONCLUSION
Water egg-
My hypothesis was correct for the water egg because..
I said the weight would be more. Also increased in size and it looked
bigger.
Corn syrup egg-
My hypothesis was also correct for the corn syrup egg because…
I said the weight would be less. Also decreased in size and it size and it
looked smaller.
