PURPOSE
1. Place eggs in vinegar to
help remove the shell
2. Measure the weight of
the egg using a balance
3. Measure the size of the
egg using a measuring
tape
PURPOSE
4. Place one egg in
water and place the
other egg in corn syrup
5. Weight and measure
the eggs again
HYPOTHESIS FOR THE CORN SYRUP EGG
 Think that the weight of corn
syrup egg will change get heavier
 Think the size will change but
be smaller
 Looks think that the color will
change and shape stay the same
HYPOTHESIS FOR THE WATER EGG
Think that weight will
stay the same
Think that the size will
stay the same to
Looks also think it will
stay the same
MATERIALS
 Vinegar
 Corn syrup
 Eggs (2)
 Balance
 Measuring tape
 String
 Water
 2 beakers
Corn Syrup
Egg
Before
W 64.9 grams
S 16.0 cm
After
W 35.3 grams
S 13.0 cm
Water Egg
W 65.8 grams
S 16.5 cm
W 83.3 grams
S 18.0 cm
OBSERVATIONS
1) Bubbles coming off of the egg
2) Eggs now floating, at top there is a
bunch of white foam
3) After 24hrs lot of foam still at top,
shell gone feels soft or jelly-like
and squishy
4) After egg in corn syrup 2 days
looks soft, soggy, not round and
little brown
5) After egg sat in water 2 days
seemed larger and transparent
CONCLUSION
 Corn syrup egg smaller water left egg
due to egg having higher concentration
than corn syrup. Water moved high
concentration to low concentration
 Water egg larger water entered egg due
to egg having lower concentration than
water. Water moved high concentration to
low concentration
THIS IS OSMOSIS!
HYPOTHESIS (CORN SYRUP EGG)
 Size, right thought it would get
smaller water left egg went into corn
syrup
 Weight, wrong thought heavier
didn’t water left the egg went into
corn syrup
 Color, right thought it would turn
brown
 Shape, wrong thought it stayed
the same but got a little lumpy
HYPOTHESIS (WATER EGG)
 Size, wrong thought it would
stay same but actually got larger
 Weight, wrong thought it
would stay same but got heavier
 Color, right thought would
stay same
 Shape, wrong thought stay
same but got larger and
somewhat transparent
