Solar PV installations in the UK grew significantly in 2011 due to attractive returns from feed-in tariffs, available capital from incentives like EIS, and demand from customers. However, meeting the goal of 22GW of solar capacity by 2020 would require installations to grow three times faster than 2011 rates for the next seven years. The presentation discusses factors that could support or limit further growth of solar PV in the UK, such as energy storage technology, local manufacturing, and potential public resistance to large-scale solar developments.
