Serobid (Salmeterol Xinafoate Inhaler) is
used to prevent asthma attacks or exercise-
induced bronchospasm.
This medicine is also used to treat chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
including emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

➢Treatment of Asthma in Adult Patients:
The usual dose is two inhalations of 25
mcg twice daily. For More Severe
Airways Obstruction the dose is four
inhalations of 25 mcg twice daily.

Serobid (Salmeterol Xinafoate Inhaler)
has to be stored at controlled room
temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F
to 77°F) with excursions permitted
between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Store in a dry place away from direct
heat or sunlight.
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

Serobid (Salmeterol Xinafoate Inhaler) should
not be started in patients with unstable or acutely
deteriorating asthma, which may be a life
threatening condition. Serious acute respiratory
events, including fatalities have been reported
when Salmeterol has been initiated in such
situations.
Serobid is a long acting beta-2 agonist and
should be used only as an adjunct to
corticosteroids in the management of asthma.
Serobid is not a replacement or substitute
for oral or inhaled corticosteroids and must be
used as a complementary drug to them.

11. Warnings

Serobid is suitable for long-term regular,
twice-daily treatment to control symptoms
of reversible airways obstruction. In view of its
slower onset of action it must not be used to
relieve acute symptoms of asthma, for which
a faster acting (within 5 minutes) inhaled
bronchodilator should be given.
Sudden and progressive deterioration of asthma
control is potentially life threatening and
considerations should be given to increasing
corticosteroid therapy. In patients at risk, daily
peak flow monitoring may be instituted.

There have been very rare reports of
increases in blood glucose levels and this
should be considered when prescribing to
patients with a history of diabetes mellitus.
Serobid should be administered with caution
in patients with thyrotoxicosis.
A transient decrease in serum potassium
could occur with all sympathomimetic drugs
at higher therapeutic doses. Hence,
Serobid must be used with caution in
patients predisposed to low levels of serum
potassium.

Contraindications
Serobid inhaler is contraindicated in
patients with a hypersensitivity to
Salmeterol Xinafoate or any other
component of this medication.

➢Common Serobid (Salmeterol Xinafoate Inhaler) side
effects can include headache, flu symptoms, joint or muscle
pain, throat irritation, cough; or stuffy or runny nose.
➢Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs
of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of
your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
➢Call your doctor immediately if you have: worsening
asthma symptoms, or other breathing problems after using
this medication, muscle cramps, sleep problems (insomnia),
tremors, chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeats, feeling light-
headed, fainting, or seizure (convulsions), low potassium
(confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased
urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling); or
high blood sugar (increased thirst, increased urination,
hunger, dry mouth, fruity breath odor, drowsiness, dry skin,
blurred vision, weight loss).

The expected signs and symptoms with
overdosage of Serobid (Salmeterol
Xinafoate Inhaler) are those of excessive
beta-adrenergic stimulation and/or
occurrence or exaggeration of any of the
signs and symptoms listed under side
effects such as tremor, headache,
tachycardia, dizziness, increase in systolic
blood pressure etc.

16. Serobid Overdose

The preferred antidotes are cardioselective
beta-blocking agents, which should be
used with caution in patients with a history
of bronchospasm.

Salmeterol Xinafoate (Serobid Inhaler) has
been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy
Category C.
It is not known whether Salmeterol inhalation
will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if
you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
while using this medication.
It is not known whether Salmeterol inhalation
passes into breast milk or if it could harm a
nursing baby. You should not breast-feed
while using this medicine.
