1. Self-reflections
Self-reflection is a simple way to dig deeper into your feelings and find out why you were
doing something or feeling a certain way. With a profession as challenging as teaching, self-
reflection offers teachers an opportunity to think about what works and what doesn’t in their
classroom. We teachers can use reflective teaching as a way to analyse and evaluate our
own practices so we can focus on what works. Personally, for this self-reflection, I will focus
on goals and think about future uses for the knowledge required in course PGT436E
Information and Communication Technology in Education.
We are living in a constantly evolving digital world. ICT has an impact on nearly every
aspect of our lives - from working to socialising, learning to playing. The digital age has
transformed the way young people communicate, network, seek help, access information
and learn. We must recognise that young people are now an online population and access is
through a variety of means such as computers, TV and mobile phones. As technology
becomes more and more embedded in our culture, we must provide our learners with
relevant and contemporary experiences that allow them to successfully engage with
technology and prepare them for life after school.
I learned that this course equip student-teachers with various Interactive 21st
Century ICT tools and technologies, along with the pedagogies of using them appropriately
and effectively across the curriculum. The design and development of all materials shall
involve the innovative and creative application of instructional system design (ISD) and
Instructional design (ID). Each ICT tool shall be discussed from the perspective of its
advantages, limitations and appropriateness of applications. A constructivist approach of
learning with new interactive learning technologies will be given emphasis.
I registered this course because it sounded like meaningful choice within my ICTs
skills. I looked forward to learn about the ways to address challenges faced as a 21 st
century educator. The insight resulting from the coursework, presentations chats, small
group assignments, individual assignments and relationship that I gained are much more
than I anticipated.
Last but not least, it is widely recognised that learners are motivated and purposefully
engaged in the learning process when concepts and skills are underpinned with technology
and sound pedagogy. Education in Malaysia provides advice on resources for practitioners,
parents and pupils to engage with these technologies in order to inform and enhance the
learning experience.
