Before managing others a leader or manager must be
able to manage his own self. Managing self indicates
managing and controlling one’s own desire(which
arise at mental level) effectively. Self management
also indicates maintaining balance against the peers
of opposite – Joy & Sorrow , Success & Failure ,
Praise & Insult , Victory and Defeat and so on. It also
implies one’s perfect control over attachment (raga),
fear (bhaya), and anger (krodha) in day to day
functions.
1. Accepting the self and the outer world as it
is.
2. Practicing Karma Yoga in life
3. Maintaining equanimity of mind against
the pair of opposite.
4. Creating appropriate mental attitude.
1. Be satisfied with yourself.
2. Do your work with full concentration without any.
anxiety for results.
3. Develop equanimity towards the pairs of opposites.
4. Develop an appropriate mental attitude in yourself.
One try’s to get certain desired objects in order to be
satisfied with oneself or tries to get rid of something
undesirable because everyone wants to be happy.
Thus life is lived almost by all in stress and in strain,
the mind remains disturbed all the time and
managers with such mind cannot manage anything
successfully.
Atmano Mokshartham Jagad-hitaya
cha (आत्मनॊ मोक्षार्थम ् जगद्धिताय च) (for
one's own salvation and for the welfare of the
World).
It means man is supposed to work for his own
salvation(moksha) and for the good of the
humanity.
Thus, the individual who plays his role
properly remains always happy and satisfied
with his self and the world outside.
2. Do your work with full concentration
without any anxiety for results.
Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachan
“ कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते र्ा फलेषु कदाचन। ’’
One must have some expectations but should
not indulge into future expectations while
performing the action therefore work should be
performed with a mind which is anxious for
results and which is not pre-occupied with fear
and doubts about the result.
A man has to face different pair of opposites
in his life like; pain and pleasure , gain and
loss , victory and defeat , success and failure
etc. One must learn to keep oneself in
balance against these pairs of opposite.
A manager requires a healthy attitude towards
life which includes concern for the people and
service orientation. As a manager you have to
keep away from – attachment , fear , anger.
As a manager one should take interest in
his/her job and should discover his/her
real worth to manage the people
efficiently, there are some points to be
considered for managing people
effectively and efficiently.
Whatever you do whether big or small
you should have love for your work and
should take real interest in that then
only you can only can achieve something
big in future.
This can be explained with help of the following
Proverb : “ You can buy man’s time, his physical
presence at a given place but you cannot buy his
enthusiasm, initiative and loyalty, you have to win all
these things”.
“ Man will not do extraordinary days work for an
ordinary day’s pay”.
Indian philosophy considers work as duty (sadhana); duty
is given much importance in our culture. One the other
hand western society gives too much importance to rights
and duties are mentioned very clearly, rights and duties
are complementary to each other for example – if you
have right to earn, you have duty to pay taxes, if you have
right to drive on road its your duty to follow the traffic
rules. According to Indian philosophy all human beings
are considered having same divine element themselves it
is managers duty to develop this element and help people
in their growth if duty is performed offering it to the
supreme almighty authority, all the rights will be taken
care of by the nature.
A manager should take care of the employees and
should make them feel that they are appropriately
understood. He has to listen to a person with
interest and patience so that the employee can
express his ideas and opinions without any fear. In a
harmonious environment orders and instructions
are willingly accepted by the employees and the
work will be transformed into a duty performed with
pleasure.
For managing others effectively, a manager first has
to learn to manage his own self and for managing
self he should have control over his desire, thoughts
and actions. He should have the ability to face the
pair of opposite with equanimity of mind and
should also have emotional maturity.
THANK YOU
