The Manu Smriti is a Hindu text that provides rules and guidelines for individuals in different stages of life and classes of society. It lays out rules for students, householders, retired persons, and those who have renounced material attachments. It also provides rules that kings should follow. When social or political issues arose, assemblies of learned sages would make rulings based on the Manu Smriti, and these verdicts were respected by both rulers and common people. Those who violated the rules of the Manu Smriti would be punished by boycotting and severing social relations with them.

conduct which have been guiding the
private , personal, social and national
life of the people.
• The smriti have laid down definite rules
and injunctions to be followed by each
individual belonging to a certain class
of society.

• For Brahmachari (the pupil residing in the gurukul)
• For Householder (Grhastha)
• For Vanaprastha (leading retired life)
• For Samnyas (who give up all worldly attachments)
• For The King.

5. Punishment Under Manu-Smriti
• If the people acted against smriti rules
than they were boycotted and punished
by the assemblies called the panchayata ,
which severed all social relations with
such ill behaving persons and did not
allow then to use their “Hubble Bubble
and Water”.
