3. VEDAS (वेद)
“Vedas are the guiding respository of the whole eternal
universal ideal conduct”.
Vedas are the collection of hymns and other
composed in India between about 1500 and 1000 BCE. It
include elements such as Liturgical material as well as
mythological accounts, poems, prayers and formulas
considered to be sacred by the Vedic religion.
4. IMPORTANCE OF VEDA
Providing guidance of righteous living.
Know yourself as soul.
Be still – stillness is God.
Keep your mind on Spiritual eye.
5. CONTENT OF VEDAS
Brahmans:- It deals with use of Vedic chanting for specific
purpose.
Aranyakas:- These are philosophical discussion which were
revealed to the Sages as a result of their
maditation.
Upanisads:- Explain the inner meaning of Vedas and clear
the concept –Brahma & Jiva and their mutual
relation.
6. TYPES OF VEDAS
• Rig-Veda “Knowledge of Hymns of Praise”
• Yajur-Veda “ Knowledge of Sacrificial Formulas”
• Sama-Veda “Knowledge of Melodies ”
• Atharava-Veda “Knowledge of Magical Formulas ”
7. RIG VEDA (ऋग्वेद)
• It is the most ancient literally record.
• It divided into 10 mandalas ,each one of which contains a
certain number of Hymns
• There are 1028 Hymns in total.
• It tells how to worship and praise the God.
• Each hymn is dedicate to presiding Deity.
9. YAJUR VEDA (यजुवेद)
• Yajurveda is a ancient Hindu scriputre devoted to the
worship of God.
• It is describe the way in which religious rituals and
sacred ceremonies are performed.
• The name comes from sanskrit word “Yajus” meaning
“worship” and “Veda” meaning knowledge.
11. SAMA VEDA (सामवेद)
It is the collection of melodies and chants, and is also
called the book of song.
• It is basically the words of the rig veda put to music.
• It contains about 1900 verses.
• If Rig veda is a word the sam veda is a song.

13. ATHARAVAVEDA (अथवववेद)
• It is a collection of 20 books containing hymns, chants,
spells and prayers; and involves issues such as healing of
illnesses, prolonging life, black magic and rituals for removing
maladies and anxieties.
• It addresses the daily problems of Vedic people.
