Psychoanalytic Theory Of Human Development
Psychoanalytic Theory
Psychoanalytic Theory is a theory of human development that holds that irrational, unconscious drives
and motives, often originating in childhood, underlie human behavior. It is thought to influence every
aspect of thinking and behavior, from the smallest details of life to the crucial choices of a lifetime.
Sigmund Freud is an Austrian physician who believed the stages of human development were
characterized by sexual pleasure centered on a particular part of the body.
Oral Stage (Birth to 1 year) In infancy, everything the child gets a hold of goes to their mouth. The
lips, tongue, and gums are the focus of pleasurable sensations in the baby s body. They love to suck on
their fingers or pacifier majority of the time, even in their sleep.
Anal Stage (1 3 years)
The anal is the focus of pleasurable sensations in the baby s body. During this time children are
beginning toilet training. They are now able to interpret when they need to use the restroom and able
to communicate to the parents when they need to go.
Phallic Stage (3 6 years)
During this stage, the penis is the most important body part, and pleasure is derived from genital
stimulation. This is the time when they begin to discover their genitals, girls may ask questions while
on the other hand, boys may feel a sense of pride.
Latency (6 11 years)
During this age of development sexual needs quieten down and children begin to focus on social
activities with friends.

Comparison Of Lysosomes And Vacuoles
A cell is like a huge factory. Numerical amounts of processes are non stop, even when we re asleep.
After a long day of sleeping and play, you must eat. A great meal satisfies the body; to keep moving
each and every day, but how does it get receive the nutrients and power its needs? That is through its
digestive system, but more in particular, the cell organelles. Two of these organelles work hand in
hand to keep the body functioning. The two organelles are the lysosomes and vacuoles. The two
organic like objects are like brothers. They need and depend on each other, to digest and dispose of
waste coming from the human being. These items also are located in the cytoplasm of the cell where
they are recycled and deposit fresh nutrient into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cell as no particular shape nor size. Vacuoles store the nutrients needed for the cell and as well as
keep it from being contaminated by the waste produced by the body. It is found in both plant and
animal cells but is much larger in the plant cell, because its main degree of function is storage of water
for the plant to larger portion of its family which is the Vacuole. It exports items outside of the cell to
keep damage to a all time low. On the contrary, lysosomes break down food and garbage inside the
body as well. Its like the stomach of the cell. It s found in all eukaryotic cells. Lysosomes are typically
recycled back into the cytoplasm of the cell after the enzymes attack and destroy the harmful
substances that it broke down and engulfed. Lysosomes are also like the builders of the cell, and
looked upon as a reparation item. They are able to act upon this way due to a special enzyme called
hydrolytic enzymes. Enzymes within the endoplasmic reticulum plays an important role in nurturing
the process of creating a lysosome. Which information is then sent to the Golgi body and the
formation of the lysosomes are then created by the budding off of its branches and then sent to the

Elie Wiesel As A Victim To The Holocaust
The Holocaust was a tragic event that involved the murder of millions of Jews from the years 1938 to
1945. Elie Wiesel was a victim to this, being a Jew himself. The book he wrote, Night, tells his story
and how he survived, changed, and adapted to being put into labor camps and forced to work and was
starved. Elie was forced to work for nearly four years in these camps surrounded by hundreds of other
enslaved Jews. His experience was the definition of trauma. The traumatic experience altered his
relationship with his father and emotionally changed him.

A Worn Path By Eudora Welty Essay
A Worn Path (1940) On an everyday basis people are encountering challenges that stand in their way
of them achieving their set goals. However, with determination the vast majority will accomplish the
mission they have set out to conquer. In the short story A Worn Path written by Eudora Welty in 1940,
Phoenix Jackson, the main character has a mission in which she is trying to complete when she is
faced with many challenges. This short story is centered on the challenges that are faced by an elderly
African American grandmother as she continues on her long journey from the secluded pinewoods
into the town nearby of Natchez. She has one intention in mind when she begins, to get a medicine for
her chronically ill grandson no matter what the challenges are that she encounters. The one way to
convey this idea to the readers is with the literary use of theme. Some of the major themes in Eudora
Welty s short story is the determination that Jackson conveys with her actions, the aspect of agism,
and racism. The most important theme in this story is the emotional and spiritual strength of Jackson
which enables her to continue her journey. For the past seventy years many scholars have been trying
to critically interpret the short story written by Welty. A tale of an elderly black women, Phoenix
Jackson who has been traveling to the nearby city to obtain medicine for her ill grandson from a clinic.
Many critics have linked the symbols of death and rebirth with the scarecrow who

Analysis Of The Film The Dark Knight
A literary convention is a specific pattern like a repetition of a word, phrase, character, or setting. They
are recurring patterns in particular literary genres and are present in many novels, short stories, plays,
and sonnets. There are many different literary conventions or tropes in the stories that we have read,
but I am choosing to write about the film The Dark Knight by Christopher Nolan. There are also many
within the film, but the one that stuck out most to me was Jokers famous saying, why so serious? .
When he says this his tone of voice is almost angry, or he may even sound mentally insane. There are
two stories from where The Joker says that the saying why so serious originates from. The most
notable one is that his father was a drunk and killed his mother. Then his father asks him why so
serious , and decides he should have a smile, so he put a knife in his mouth and cut his face from ear
to ear. This phrase and the way that he says it ends up making people of Gotham more scared then
they maybe normally would be. The phrase could also mean that order will never be contained, that
somehow someway chaos will always rise. I think that by the different stories about his scar, his
actions throughout the film, and by his famous why so serious? phrase, Joker is a psychopath who is
mentally deranged, yet maybe not insane, and somehow he is very intelligent. The phrase is something
that occurs very frequently in the movie. It has also become a very popular saying

Indentured Servants In Colonial America
Labor in the British colonies in America consisted of African slaves who were typically permanently
enslaved as well as white indentured servants who worked for a specific amount of time and according
to conditions outlined in a legal document, as well as several combinations of the two categories. Both
the indentured servants and the slaves were essential to the growth of the colonial economy and
society as a whole because of their work. The rapid growth of the farming economy led to a
significant need for laborers which led to a chain of events resulting in slavery. By investigating the
contractual rights indentured servants had, the living conditions they experienced, and the way
indentured servants acted as a precursor for slave labor, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Farmers and masters of indentured servants began moving away from indentured servitude and
towards slavery after the first African slaves were brought to Virginia in 1619. The increasing demand
for tobacco and indigo also prompted a need for labor, and the African slaves were an even easier
method of labor for masters than indentured servants. Servants were also becoming more expensive.
As the demand for servants went up their terms got shorter and their contracts became less and less
favorable for their masters. In addition to this, the number of indentured servants had fell in the 1660s
due to a decrease in the English birthrate and a subsequent rise in English wages. All these factors
encouraged a shift away from indentured servitude and towards African slave labor. With no
regulations on slaves in place, owners were free to abuse the system and be as cruel as they

Hyperpluralism In California
A theory explains and can predict something. There are several theories that try to explain who
governs California and why. Of the several theories included in California politics, there is the
democratic theory, elite theory, pluralist theory, and hyperpluralism. Of these four theories, most tend
to be influenced by one theory as each as their own beliefs to better explain how politics works.
Hyperpluralism seems to do a better job at explaining the politics of California when compared to the
others. The democratic theory believes that everyone governs and has the most influence on politics in
California. According to the democratic theory, voters have their own power to decide what laws to
approve or disapprove by the state legislature. They also have the power to choose their own
legislation, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those two classes are the ones who rule and the second is the rest who do not rule. According to the
text, Government is always government by the few, whether in the name of the few, the one, or the
many (13). Those who make up the elites are generally the wealthier population. The Big Four is an
example of elites who used their political power to control those who do not have their own power.
The Big Four helped contribute to California s land development and growth.
In contrast, hyperpluralism is a theory that explains politics in a more relatable way. No one governs
instead power is thinly scattered . Lawrence states how the exercise of political power has become a
highly competitive tug of war between institutions, policymakers, political parties, numerous interest
groups, and voters (14). There are ample amounts of evidence in California politics. There are several
components that contribute to this evidence such as individualism in political life, growing diversity of
group interests, and a change in the nature of majoritarian

The Pros And Cons Of Nike
There are hundreds of name brands that millions around the world use to represent who they are as a
person and their personality. Typically name brands have celebrities, athletes, and models broadcast
the clothes by wearing them and making commercials so the people behind the screens can look
exactly like the people wearing them first. There are companies like Nike that are known to mainly be
a sports name brand company and is loved and worn by millions. Unfortunately, many do not know
what exactly happens behind the scenes where the clothes, shoes, and accessories are being made.
Many name brand companies have fallen under certain accusations of taking part in manufacturing
their own products in sweatshops. These sweatshops are where workers of the company are employed
in horrible and unsafe working conditions as well as working long hours at low wages. Unfortunately,
one of the most popular companies in America is now being kept under surveillance for their unfair
labor practices. This company that is well known has now damaged its reputation, specifically through
their company s image and their sales. The famous Nike brand has now fallen through the cracks.
Sources state ex employees and present day employees have filed reports of Nike s harsh and unjust
working conditions as far back as the 1990 s. Although Nike denied it at times, there was solid proof
that children under the age of 16 were also working in these conditions, as most adults would. These

The On The Foreclosure Crisis
The last five years have been a rollercoaster for the average American homeowner. I personally know
many people who were unable to keep their homes. Most of the reasons were extenuating loss of job,
decline in business, death of family ultimately resulting in no longer being able to afford the
mortgage. Unfortunately there were some very irresponsible decisions that contributed to the
foreclosure of homes, for example, financing huge second and third mortgages to pay for frivolous
activities and items. With the last half decade of hard lessons learned for previous home owners many
are looking to venture into the market again with some more creative financing options. Many sellers
are turning to options such as rent to own or seller carrying the contract with a down payment as well
as buyers borrowing against existing retirement and life insurance accounts. The rent to own option is
one that very desirable for potential home buyers as well as sellers. They are able to live in the home
that they desire to own and all rent payments that are made are put towards to the future mortgage
similar to a buying a car. The future buyers pay a certain amount each month to live in the house, and
at the end of a set period generally within three years they have the option to buy the house. Each
month of rent they pay is income for the seller, while a portion of it goes toward a down payment to
eventually purchase the home. Both future buyer and seller need to be very clear about the

Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad
Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious amount
of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate, and destiny
are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars going on during
that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading both Aeneas and
Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the role of the gods is to
make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliad focuses on the end of the Trojan War and the
damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the war and underlies the
foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the comparison of the role of
gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have influence on the lives of mortals. In
both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were chosen by gods because they have gained
favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in
both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were also very specific on who they would help. The
gods determined the destiny of the mortals. Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have
become favorable in the eyes of the gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because
they stand out from ordinary men by having a great military and physical prowess.

Wuthering Heights Essay
In Emily Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights, we are taken back to the nineteenth century by a man
named Lockwood. He is being told the story of his landlord, Heathcliff, and how he became the man
that he is and what he has been through. We learn that Heathcliff was adopted by Mr. Earnshaw on a
trip to Liverpool and was brought back to Wuthering Heights to his new family, a mother, a brother,
and a sister. Upon arrival he was not greeted with any respect and or love. The Earnshaw s had more
love for the dirt on the bottoms of their shoes than they had for Heathcliff. Throughout Heathcliff s
childhood, he was bullied by his older brother Hindley because Hindley could see that Heathcliff was

nurture , nurturing a child will develop them into the adult that they will be the rest of their lives and
also influence how they will nurture other people, in this case Cathy.
The first place in Wuthering Heights that we see Heathcliff has fallen victim to the nurture category in
nature vs. nurture is when Heathcliff is brought home to Wuthering Heights and is introduced to the
family in Chapter Four. When Nelly is describing Heathcliff on his arrival to Wuthering heights, she
describes him as a dirty, ragged, black haired child and when Nelly talks about Mrs. Earnshaw s
reaction she says that she was ready to fling it out of doors (37). They referred to this child as an it on
arrival. Throughout the page, Nelly still refers to Heathcliff as an it: Mr. Earnshaw told me to wash it,
and give it clean things, and let it sleep with the children (37). This had to have been degrading,
especially to a child who had lived on his own since he could remember and had no knowledge of any
family whatsoever. Mrs. Earnshaw even goes to take it a step further and refer to Heathcliff as a gypsy
brat and asks why Mr. Earnshaw would dare to bring home such a child when they had their own
bairns to feed and fend for (37). Growing up in this environment on a child, there would be no way
that the child would escape without also being as un nurturing of an individual as his family members.

Comparing Calculus 3 And Differential Equations
I have been very blessed in my life by excelling in school. Although I do very well in my classes,
there are a couple classes that I have had to work twice as hard in. To be specific, I have had to work
exceptionally harder in math and science. Most of my friends would be surprised to hear that I have to
work so much harder in these classes. Many of them know that I am in Advanced Placement classes,
so they automatically assume I am naturally gifted in all subject areas and that the course matter
comes easily to me. I am actually in the highest math class offered at my school, a combination of

I go to my teachers and ask them questions about different lessons. I also have had to study more for
these specific classes. For example, one thing I do that is quite different from many students is that I
make my own quizzes and tests to study for Calculus 3 and Differential Equations. Many of my
friends say I am crazy for putting this amount effort into it, but I believe that it has truly helped me do
well on quizzes and tests. Additionally, I look up numerous educational videos on YouTube and Khan
Academy to get a different way of obtaining more knowledge on certain subjects. I do this exclusively
for AP Biology. My AP Biology teacher gives us review books for the AP test, so I often take the
practice tests and look at the answers to see if I know the information. All of these tactics have helped
me immensely. Although I eventually understand the content, I do have trouble applying the
information. I can know how to do a Chi square test with fruit flies as well as how to do triple
integrals, but knowing when exactly to do them is quite difficult for me. For both of these classes, I
also form study groups with my friends to review material. It is very beneficial because we help each
other with different concepts. Math and science will always be challenging for me, but I am working

Analysis Of The Brain Is Wider Then The Sky
The poem The Brain is Wider Then the Sky by Emily Dickinson, written in 1862. Emily Dickinson
was a woman who never married. She lived with her parents in Amherst Massachusetts. Emily
believed in feminist. She came from a very church going family but as she got older she stopped going
to church. She was a very smart woman. She attended college at Amherst Academy. Her father was
the founder of Amherst Academy, which today is called Amherst College. Amherst college is still a
well know college in Massachusetts. Emily Dickinson started a book club involving multiple friends,
as well as her loving attentiveness to individuals in times of both suffering and joy. These inquiries

Battle Of Britain Analysis
Trench Kids
After evaluating the image called Battle of Britain, many could conclude that the children were
intrigued by what was going on around them while they were in the center of the war, and that each
child was innocent yet greatly affected by the aftermath of the war. All in all, this image portrays the
struggles the children faced trying to understand what was going on around them, living in a world
surrounded by war and violence, and how it affected the people who lived in Britain during this hard
time, especially the young children of Britain.

We can only imagine how hard it must be to be a young child during the time of war. Not only did
they have to deal with all of the fighting going on around them, but there was nothing they could do
about it. They could not help fight because they were too young, and they could not leave where the
fighting was happening because their parents were most likely involved in the war. They were placed
into a trench to keep them safe, but how safe could they really have been? They were in street clothes
and had no protection otherwise. I also found it neat that they were able to capture black and white
images during the war. The color of the picture can add an ominous feeling, the dark colors portray
how it was a dark time filled with many deaths and tragedies. This picture and other ones similar to it
provided good information on what it was like during that time in history. For example, how civilians
were in the middle of the fighting, what the trenches looked like, and what the children looked like.

A Brief Note On The Battle Of Somme
Infantry containing new machinery and lack of protection and medical equipment was a major cause
of the lethality during the Battle of Somme. In fact, the highest casualties were found in units manned
by infantry. Machine guns, tanks, gasses, and new explosives were massively powerful; artillery
heavier than ever, but protection was not. On the first of July, 1916 mines under the German strong
points were exploded , leaving creators that still mark the battle field, and the beginning of chaos for
the Battle of Somme, exemplifying the new abilities of destruction. Moving forward, firepower was to
overwhelmingly lethal for medical assistance and medics struggled to keep up. Artillery covered a
larger surface area and could shoot off more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of destruction caused by mass explosives and gunfire was worsened by the lack of
protection and medical availability. The evolution of new firepower was too strong for current
methods of protection and cover. Barbed wire and trenches was the most effective current form of
shelter. However, barbed wire was easily run over by tanks and trenches penetrated by explosives and
air power. Simple cloth covering the bodies of the soldiers was no protection against machine guns,
bombs, and gasses. World War I was the first time gas had been used and the soldiers during the Battle
of Somme did not yet of the technology of gas masks to protect themselves. The result of so many
injuries was too much for medics to keep up with and transportation was slow. There were not enough
materials, nor enough people to manage the mass injuries. The extreme death toll caused by day one
could have been significantly smaller given an abundance of medical attention, however that was not
the case for soldiers on the Somme. Soldiers wounded on the first day suffered for a longer period of
time due to a failure in ambulance trains. The failure left around 10,000 of the wounded soldiers
stranded in battle territory and were not able to be transferred for days to come. The circumstances
within the trenches was no assistance to the survival of men. Trench warfare during the Battle of

The Pros And Cons Of Gold Rates
Commodities:
Putting aside a specified sum of money and expecting some kind of return out of it within a certain
time period is what financial investment is all about. Various types of financial investments are mutual
funds, fixed deposits, bonds, stock equities, real estate, gold/silver and precious stones.
Interests in stocks, gold and oil contracts are dependably thought to be the best wellspring of interest
in developing economies. Speculators of Pakistan are differentiating their speculation into gold, on the
grounds that such speculations regularly have had a converse association with stock exchange
developments. Investment in the gold is considered as the most secure investment today. There are
numerous reasons behind that but since of old customs and traditions gold is vital in this part of the
world. Gold is vital thing in any marriage work particularly in South Asia.
Gold prices/rates in Pakistan are for the most part subject to two primary elements. To begin with are
the International Gold rates. If the International Gold rates fall or rise, then the Gold rates in Pakistan

As You Like It a Romantic Comedy
The major conventions of Shakespearean Romantic Comedy are:
The main action is about love.
The would be lovers must overcome obstacles and misunderstandings before being united in
harmonious union. The ending frequently involves a parade of couples to the altar and a festive mood
or actual celebration (expressed in dance, song, feast, etc.) A Midsummer Night s Dream has four such
couples (not counting Pyramus and Thisbe!); As You Like It has four; Twelfth Night has three; etc.
Frequently (but not always), it contains elements of the improbable, the fantastic, the supernatural, or

Shakespeare s early romantic comedy most indebted to John Lyly is Love s Labour s Lost (c. 1588
97), a confection set in the never never land of Navarre where the King and his companions are visited
by the Princess of France and her ladies in waiting on a diplomatic mission that soon devolves into a
game of courtship. As is often the case in Shakespearean romantic comedy, the young women are sure
of who they are and whom they intend to marry; one cannot be certain that they ever really fall in
love, since they begin by knowing what they want. The young men, conversely, fall all over
themselves in their comically futile attempts to eschew romantic love in favour of more serious
pursuits. They perjure themselves, are shamed and put down, and are finally forgiven their follies by
the women. Shakespeare brilliantly portrays male discomfiture and female self assurance as he

It was a lovely Thursday morning in the Herndon household. All was normal, well as normal as things

Building Relationships With Customers Is A Key Marketing...
Building enduring relationships with customers is a key marketing objective for most firms
(Elbedweihy et al., 2016). Customers choose to identify with brands they perceive as attractive,
motivated by their self definitional needs fulfillment (Bhattacharya Sen, 2003). Identifying with a
company that has an attractive perceived identity may result in benefits to customers in terms of self
enhancement (Marin et al., 2009). Customers will feel the motivational impulse to attain a
psychological attachment to a brand when they perceive the brand as attractive and as partially
fulfilling one or more of their fundamental self definitional needs (Currás Pérez et al., 2009).
Customer experience is generated from customer value and is a customer s perception based on
interactions through either direct use or distance appreciation of products (Hansen Christensen, 2003).
Holbrook s (2002) stated that there are three values measuring user experience: usability, social value
and usage pleasure. Usability can be defined through efficiency, learnability, memorability, and
represents a broader construct integrating perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Social value
accrues to the user because of possessing a particular product. Finally, pleasure is referred to as soft
functionality of a product that represent hedonic value that defines emotional relationship of a user
with a product (Cited in Mishra, 2016). There are some concepts that are related to customer brand

Whale Hunting In America Case Study
**Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non
endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption?**
In America, it is believed that whales and dolphins are mammals who are intelligent, are capable of
learning, and should have the right to be free (Brain Power). Because of this, and as a superpower, the
U.S. is able to use their economic influence to ban the killing of these mammals (Culture and
Globalization). Norway and Japan, whose fishing and whale hunting traditions go back centuries,

since the whales they hunt are not endangered and therefore there should not be an environmental

Notes Of A Biology Watcher, By Lewis Thomas
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an ant? Author of The Lives of a Cell: Notes of a
Biology Watcher Lewis Thomas, has. In his essay, he compares ants to humans. He has a theory that
they are very similar. I believe this comparison is accurate one because both humans and ants act
similar in the way they live, both are a stronger force when they work together, and both have a nature
to cause destruction. He accomplishes driving his point home by exposing his readers to a new
explanation of human nature and how related it is to ants human nature. Lewis Thomas starts the
comparison from the very beginning of the essay. He starts with the lifestyle of both creatures. Ants

He also hints that actions require consequences and someone taking responsibility for those actions,
ants being superior in this situation. They...Launch armies into wars, use chemical sprays to alarm and
confuse enemies, capture slaves,. The families of weaver ants engage in child labor.. (Thomas 1 6).
This quote compares ants destructive nature to humans. People cause wars and we use chemical
sprays, and many years ago we captured slave. Even though it is illegal, humans still engage in child
labor, as well. Thomas also states, I am unsure of the meaning, but I think it has something to do with
all that plastic that, and the distance from the earth... But I think it was chiefly the plastic, which
seems to me the most unearthly of all man s creations so far. I do not believe you can suspend army
ants away from the earth, on plastic for any length of time. They will lose touch, run out of energy,
and die for lack of current. As written before this compares the destructive nature of humans. If a
human was taken from their home and their resources, they too would become home sick and could
possibly die. Both humans and ants are meant to live their natural habitats. In this quote, he also
alludes that humans need to take responsibility for their actions. He in a way holds them

Power Of Words In Othello
In Othello words have the ability to steer the plot, to form characters identities and to engage the
audience as active participants in the play.
In Shakespeare s Othello, the lack of a narrator, empowers the words spoken by the characters to such
an extent that it directs the drama to the desired destination of the play. This essay will serve as proof
as the power of words will be discussed by, firstly, explaining the effect that words, and the lack
thereof, have on characters and ultimately on the plot. Thereafter, the use of certain words to form
perceived impressions of characters will be argued. Lastly, an elaboration on how words are used to
involve the audience in the play.
Words can have a positive or negative effect on characters (Kaleba Osherow, 2012), it can lead to a
character being confident or lead to the deterioration of a character s self concept (as seen in the case
of Othello). We see this in the first act when Othello does not hide from confrontation, but instead
invites Brabanzio to come. Not I. I must be found. My parts, my title, and my perfect soul shall

How Pop Music Affects Society
It has been many centuries since the early days of music where it was restricted to classical tunes and
melodic melodies. In this time music has evolved to something of individual celebration, achievement,
and even a battle call for the rights of people everywhere expressed though a large range of musical
genres and styles. Music can be split into different sections based on how it is produced, what it
contains musically, and how it affects the audience through language or influence. Although every
genre of music has a different purpose and twist, pop music is the most popular in today s society
because of how it is produced, its chord progression, common and recurring cadences, and its relatable

Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability of Chord
Progression on Brain Response: An MEG Study, showed that structures commonly found in pop
music created spikes in the right anterior portion of the brain, when specific chords are played in
dissonance to the original key, such as a Neapolitan sixth. Pop music has this effect because it is
commonly in a major key and has little to no modulation. This creates a soothing effect that spikes the
brain causing the release of serotonin making the listener happier the more they listen. Pop music also
creates a soothing and pleasing tone that is both powerful and euphoric through the use of the standard
chord progression I V vi VI. This chordal progression is used in many pop music melodies, choruses,
and even establishes a commonality through major structures that are both pleasing to the ear and the
mind. By creating these melodic structures, pop music is able to give its listeners chordal structure
statistical probability. Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional
Probability, found that year old children were able to predict tonal sequences found in typical pop
music. This is most commonly related to the resolution to the tonic of any given key. Pop music uses
this by relying on strong chords within the key, such as the dominant and mediant because of their
strong relation to the tonic. Other music styles such as jazz and even some techno rely on weaker
chords that stem from the leading tone and sub dominant. This weak structure calls for resolution and
even to the untrained ear tend to cause strain and discomfort making them less favorable and not
follow the conditional probability found in pop. Pop music s structure also establishes clear and
defined parts starting with the verse and then moving on to a chorus, before returning to the second
verse to

The effects of Land issues to poverty
The Philippines has always been an agricultural country. This can be an effect of the country s tropical
weather. According to the World Bank, in 2009, the country has 40% of agricultural land area. The
country s economy has been dependent on agricultural production. The country s agriculture sector is
made up of 4 sub sectors: farming, fisheries, livestock, and forestry, which together employ 39.8
percent of the labor force and contribute 20 percent of GDP. Farmers work under the sun s heat in
order to feed the mouths of not only their families who are under poverty but also the millions of
Filipinos.
Land issues have always been a problem in the country. There would still be numerous reports on
killings because of undistributed land. There would always be problems on housing loans and grants
from the government. In effect, our Filipino farmers would still work under the same landowners and
would be deprived of developing their own lives.
In Gilberto M. Llanto and Marife M. Ballesteros s article, Land Issues in Poverty Reduction Strategies
and the Development Agenda: Philippines , it shows how land problems in the country can affect the
alleviation of poverty. According to the author, there are five critical land issues. These are the
following: (1) unclear and inconsistent land policies; (2) inefficient land administration infrastructure;
(3) highly politicized land tax system; (4) inefficient agrarian reform program;

Accounting And Disclosure Requirements Of Leases
We know businesses can acquire assets differently, they can buy it, or if they do not have enough fund
to purchase the asset, they can lease it. Lease arrangements give the lessee access to the assets for long
enough time and in return they need to make periodic payments to the lessor. The main advantage of
leasing is to acquire the necessary equipment or assets, use that assets to generate revenue but without
tying up a big amount of cash upfront. International Accounting Standard Board (IASB) introduced
new guidelines for accounting and disclosure requirements of leases. IFRS 16 Leases will replace IAS
17 Leases, and related Interpretations, and will be effective from 1 January 2019.
We can distinguish leases either financial or operational. In existing lease accounting practices, we
treat financial leases similar to purchase with cash or on account. On the other hand operational leases
do not recognised as an asset in the books of the business but we do deduct lease payments as an
expense and it showed up in the income statement. Over the time, the use of operating income
increased so much that the academician, regulators and practitioners raised concerns to potential
opportunistic use of it by businesses (Altamuro, Johnston, Pandit and Zhang, 2014). In general
companies who use operating lease ends up with improved return on assets and debt to equity ratio
and therefore better solidity comparing to the companies who do not use operating leases, instead they

The Grandfather is the grotesque character in the short story for his age and for his experiences, and is
a link to a past that America wants to dissociate itself with. Since the grandfather is one hundred and
four years old and is a living relic of the civil war, specifically a piece of confederate memorabilia, his
granddaughter and most of the townspeople come close to worshipping him. The man is paraded
around, and then displayed in a roped off area to be shown to people during their confederate holiday

he had probably been a foot soldier; he didn t remember what he had been; in fact, he didn t remember
that war at all. This is symbolic of a time that was long ago in the south that people boast about, but no

Analysis Of Spirited Away By Hayao Miyazaki
When do we truly grow up? In most modern day societies, there is a legal age where young people
legally become adults, in this country it is once the clock strikes 12 on the 18th birthday. In popular
science, becoming mature means your prefrontal cortex has finally fully developed around 24 or 25
years of age for important decision making moments. Others perceive being all grown up when they
move out and are no longer dependent on their parents any longer. In, Hayao Miyazaki s most
acclaimed animation film Spirited Away, Miyazaki s shares his perception on what it means to become
mature through an adventurous story of a 10 year old girl named Chihiro. Based on Chihiro s

this this movie, Chihiro will be our guiding light of virtue.
Spirited Away is a film that is chock full life lessons. It is very dense in symbolism and filled with

Miyazaki wants to explain to his young audience is the dangers of greediness and the freedom that

it as maybe slightly better than Starbucks overall, but with worse coffee. This particular location is

much more spacious and inviting than most downtown coffee shops, and also has a lot of patio tables

Thin Layer Chromatography And Column Chromatography
Thin Layer Chromatography and Column Chromatography
By Maggi Shelton
Under the Supervision of Dr. Mills Chavonda
The Department of Chemistry and Physics
Milledgeville, GA 31061 Abstract:
Thin layer chromatography and column chromatography are two different methods that allow for the
separation of two miscible solvents. Through column chromatography, a mixture of nonpolar fluorine
and polar fluorenone was successfully separated. Thin layer chromatography was then used in order to
determine the success of the separation based upon the calculated Rf values, which if the Rf value fell
below zero or was above one, then the separation was not successful.
Introduction: Methods used to separate miscible solvents include thin layer chromatography (TLC) as
well as column chromatography. A method used to separate a mixture of miscible solvents is column
chromatography, which is used to purify and separate compounds. The particular speed of the solvents
used in the experiment depended upon the properties, being polar or nonpolar, as well as the properties
of the prepared column (INSERT SOURCE HERE). With column chromatography, there are two
phases that include mobile and stationary phases. In the experiment performed, the glass column used
was first packed with a piece of cotton followed by a layer of sand in order to keep the silica gel in
place and also to prevent the gel from flowing out of the tube when the particular solvent was added.

Scriticism In The Sirens Of Titans
Most science fiction is rooted in the belief that through thinking human beings can indeed save the
planet and the species and that progress is not only possible but probable through science (Morse 293).
Dealing with themes common to most science fiction, Kurt Vonnegut s The Sirens of Titan explores
the question of purpose in a futuristic setting (May 35). This novel, however, contests many
presumptions upon which many science fiction foregrounds. Josh Simpson writes that by [us]ing
irony, satire, and black humor . . . Vonnegut forces his readers to consider what it means to be human
in a chaotic, often absurd, and irrational universe (262). In fact, many scholars would agree that The
Sirens of Titan is Vonnegut s most flamboyant novel, with its entire universe at the mercy of the
outrageous fortune (Wolfe 968). Seconding G. K. Wolfe s idea, Lynn Buck notes that the world of
Vonnegut is a mixture of hilarity and futility, [and] illusion (181). ... Show more content on

ABSTRACT Assembly lines are considered to be the rocket fuel that launched the industrial
revolution. Before them, every manufactured good was made by hand, component by component by
highly skilled experienced workers. A skilled worker would be individually trained sometimes since

company produce more cars in a day and reduced labor costs. The system of an assembly line was
initially created because Ford noticed that time was lost in the travel from one task to another, as
employees moved to gather parts or assemble a section of the car. This problem was addressed in the
first assembly line by creating the flow of the conveyor belt. This change alone approximately shaved
off about half a minute of production time in each section of the car. Although, stations were already
being used in assembling a car, the conveyor belt aided in not only putting them closer together but
also giving the assembly a smoother finish. An automobile is constructed from the ground up,
meaning the frame or chassis is made first, placed on the conveyor belt and moved down the line to be
assembled. Although, this assembly line system seemed simple it was a huge transition to go from
complete manpower to machine power. This fundamental change in operating systems meant
employees needed to be trained on the new functional system. As time has gone on, the original

Ethical Issues With The Human Genome Project
As a Christian, but also as a scientist responsible for overseeing the Human Genome Project, one of
my concerns has been the limits on applications of our understanding of the genome. Should there be
limits? I think there should. I think the public has expressed their concern about ways this information
might be misused , Francis Collins an American physician geneticist (BrainyQuote, 2001 2016). A
genome is an organism s complete set of genetic instructions. Each genome contains all of the
information needed to build that organism and allow it to grow and develop (Engagement, 2015).
Uproar of ethical questions spreads throughout the world concerning who would help financially, it
being a genetic modification that would ruin the natural system. ... Show more content on

Healthcare is a big industry worldwide that obtains a large amount of money. There are companies
who donate money to help move on the project, such as a pharmaseutical. The Human Genome
Project is expanding so much that it may actually become an industry itself, meaning there will be
more job opportunities in the medical field (APECSEC.org, 2015). Their main goal is to advance in
medication and to be known. The more people know about this project, the more support they will be
able to gain and it could grow from then on (Group, 2015). But what if society is spending all of this
money for a project that doesn t have a guarantee of working? We may be paying for something that
might not advance in science and can put people in danger for being around different chemicals.
Finding new medications means they have to be tested after being made; which can put citizens into
more danger because scientists aren t certain this process will

The Ethical Debate On Prostitution
The ethical debate regarding the numerous views on prostitution dates back numerous decades.
Prostitution is seen by many as the absolute embodiment of patriarchal male privilege, clearly
disallowing feminist support or participation (Kesler, 2002, p. 219). However, views vary widely
when assessing different studies such as those that measure the possible harm risks inflected on
women working in the field. There are two main opposing views on this subject matter, the liberal and
the feminist. Those who view prostitution according to a liberal paradigm embrace the view that
prostitution, in its ideal form, must be viewed as a voluntary contract (Peterson Iyer, 1998, p. 25). On
the other hand, as Alison Jaggar points out, a liberal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overall moral of her article is to sustain the raising of awareness regarding probable physical,
emotional or psychological harm in which prostitutes continue to experience. Also, she attempts to
find a middle ground in which feminists may still speak up without neglecting the real needs of
modern day prostitutes. It is important, however, to acknowledge the existing social divide between
feminists and prostitutes. Rebecca Whisnant and Christine Stark (2004) challenge this perception
through identifying the divide in which we assume that whoever we are, the prostitute is not (p. 296). I
will proceed by discussing the liberal views debated in this article.
Peterson Iyer claims that the most common approach taken by prostitutes organizations is to view
prostitution as a matter of individual free choice (p. 24). Furthermore, they emphasize the essential
autonomy of the prostitute and the client: they are two adult persons who agree to a mutually
beneficial arrangement (p. 26). However, these arrangements could deter in some unfortunate cases
such as dishonest police, intrusive laws, or customers who fail to hold up one end of the bargain (p.
26). As well, it is common for prostitutes to experience physical and emotional abuse from their
clients, pimps and the police. These occurrences correlate to the experiences upheld by those who are

Comparing the Feminine Quest in Surfacing and Song of...
The Feminine Quest in Surfacing and Song of Solomon
Margaret Atwood in her novel Surfacing and Toni Morrison in her novel Song of Solomon require
their heroines to pass through a stage of self interpretation as a prerequisite for re inventing the self.
This stage in the feminine journey manifests a critical act typically absent in the traditional male
journey, and one that places Atwood and Morrison s heroines at odds with the patriarchal community.
If authors of feminine journeys meet the requirements set out by feminist critics like Dana Heller, then
we must also provide a method for interpreting the texts that will be palatable for critics from the
patriarchy. Otherwise we perpetuate an hostility between the camps that ... Show more content on

But as conditions in real life changed, the structure and impact of the old stories failed to keep pace,
and we found ourselves with a confusing mismatch of perceived roles and desired roles.
The revised male journey became flight from women and from the influence of others according to
Heller thus creating the literary label of anti hero (24). He still journeyed, but he kept the boon to
himself (it was a lesser one anyway). If for some reason he does pass back through his sponsoring
community, he is not received as a prince returning home..
The revised female journey became more fully hers, but like the male anti hero, the Jane Eyres and
Emma Bovarys become social outcasts and outlaws for refusing to remain in their duly assigned roles.
For a satisfactory conclusion to these stories, the audience required death or marriage still generally
portrayed as a final submission to patriarchal authority.
Dana Heller tells us now that Women s quests must propose strategies for escaping debilitating
structures, for discovering authentic selfhood, and for claiming the right to take her journey out into
the world (13). Heller expresses here an imperative to current and future writers of the feminine
journey to generate stories that accord the heroine

The Pros And Cons Of Smoking
I work security full time at a computer company located in Norman, Oklahoma. Here, we have a no
smoking policy, which means smoking is not allowed, even outside. If an employee wanted to smoke,
then he or she would have to leave the property. This policy change happened some years ago, when
someone from human resources (H.R.) saw employees standing in front of the entrance, as he or she
was trying to enter, smoking cigarettes. Me personally, I agree with this policy. I feel that those of us
who don t smoke shouldn t have to suffer for those who do. But the main reason I agree with this
policy is because it s said that second hand smoking is just as dangerous as first hand smoking and it
can even lead to cancer. Is second hand smoke really that dangerous?
What is second hand smoke? Second hand smoke (also called environmental tobacco smoke,
involuntary smoke, and passive smoke) is the combination of sidestream smoke (the smoke given off
by a burning tobacco product) and mainstream smoke (the smoke exhaled by a smoker). People can be
exposed to second hand smoke in homes, cars, the workplace, and public places, such as bars,
restaurants, and recreational settings. In the United States, the source of most second hand smoke is
from cigarettes, followed by pipes, cigars, and other tobacco products. The amount of smoke created
by a tobacco product depends on the amount of tobacco available for burning. The amount of second
hand smoke emitted by smoking one large

The Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines
Introduction
The vision of a company discusses what the company hopes to achieve within a given period. The
vision of a company promotes the development and is a measure of growth within the organization.
The value of the company incorporates the people who are valuable to the company. The company can
value its workers, shareholders or its customers in a given market. The vision of the company should
be long term and should be unique compared to the visions of other companies. The management
should formulate a mission statement for every statement to remind the workers why the company
operates and its objective. The mission statement serves as a reminder that the company has some
objectives that the workers have to work on to be achieved. Failure in most companies is attributed to
the loss of sight of the objectives set by the company. The management should emphasis on the
mission statement to ensure the success of the company (Gittell, 2005).
Goals and objectives
The goals of a company or the objectives are the targets that the organization aims to achieve to have a
competitive niche over other businesses in the market. In the formulation of a company s goals, the
management must take into account the vision of the company. The Mission statement for Southwest
Airlines is to ensure high quality customer services with logic of warmth, company spirit and pride
while being friendly to the customers. The company values include the customers who

  • 2. Psychoanalytic Theory Of Human Development Psychoanalytic Theory Psychoanalytic Theory is a theory of human development that holds that irrational, unconscious drives and motives, often originating in childhood, underlie human behavior. It is thought to influence every aspect of thinking and behavior, from the smallest details of life to the crucial choices of a lifetime. Sigmund Freud is an Austrian physician who believed the stages of human development were characterized by sexual pleasure centered on a particular part of the body. Oral Stage (Birth to 1 year) In infancy, everything the child gets a hold of goes to their mouth. The lips, tongue, and gums are the focus of pleasurable sensations in the baby s body. They love to suck on their fingers or pacifier majority of the time, even in their sleep. Anal Stage (1 3 years) The anal is the focus of pleasurable sensations in the baby s body. During this time children are beginning toilet training. They are now able to interpret when they need to use the restroom and able to communicate to the parents when they need to go. Phallic Stage (3 6 years) During this stage, the penis is the most important body part, and pleasure is derived from genital stimulation. This is the time when they begin to discover their genitals, girls may ask questions while on the other hand, boys may feel a sense of pride. Latency (6 11 years) During this age of development sexual needs quieten down and children begin to focus on social activities with friends. Genital ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is through its digestive system, but more in particular, the cell organelles. Two of these organelles work hand in hand to keep the body functioning. It exports items outside of the cell to keep damage to a all time low. On the contrary, lysosomes break down food and garbage inside the body as well. Its like the stomach of the cell. It s found in all eukaryotic cells. Lysosomes are typically recycled back into the cytoplasm of the cell after the enzymes attack and destroy the harmful substances that it broke down and engulfed. Lysosomes are also like the builders of the cell, and looked upon as a reparation item. They are able to act upon this way due to a special enzyme called hydrolytic enzymes. • 6. A Worn Path By Eudora Welty Essay A Worn Path (1940) On an everyday basis people are encountering challenges that stand in their way of them achieving their set goals. However, with determination the vast majority will accomplish the mission they have set out to conquer. In the short story A Worn Path written by Eudora Welty in 1940, Phoenix Jackson, the main character has a mission in which she is trying to complete when she is faced with many challenges. This short story is centered on the challenges that are faced by an elderly African American grandmother as she continues on her long journey from the secluded pinewoods into the town nearby of Natchez. She has one intention in mind when she begins, to get a medicine for her chronically ill grandson no matter what the challenges are that she encounters. The one way to convey this idea to the readers is with the literary use of theme. Some of the major themes in Eudora Welty s short story is the determination that Jackson conveys with her actions, the aspect of agism, and racism. The most important theme in this story is the emotional and spiritual strength of Jackson which enables her to continue her journey. For the past seventy years many scholars have been trying to critically interpret the short story written by Welty. • 7. Analysis Of The Film The Dark Knight A literary convention is a specific pattern like a repetition of a word, phrase, character, or setting. They are recurring patterns in particular literary genres and are present in many novels, short stories, plays, and sonnets. There are many different literary conventions or tropes in the stories that we have read, but I am choosing to write about the film The Dark Knight by Christopher Nolan. There are also many within the film, but the one that stuck out most to me was Jokers famous saying, why so serious? . When he says this his tone of voice is almost angry, or he may even sound mentally insane. There are two stories from where The Joker says that the saying why so serious originates from. The most notable one is that his father was a drunk and killed his mother. Then his father asks him why so serious , and decides he should have a smile, so he put a knife in his mouth and cut his face from ear to ear. This phrase and the way that he says it ends up making people of Gotham more scared then they maybe normally would be. The phrase could also mean that order will never be contained, that somehow someway chaos will always rise. I think that by the different stories about his scar, his actions throughout the film, and by his famous why so serious? phrase, Joker is a psychopath who is mentally deranged, yet maybe not insane, and somehow he is very intelligent. The phrase is something that occurs very frequently in the movie. It has also become a very popular saying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Indentured Servants In Colonial America Labor in the British colonies in America consisted of African slaves who were typically permanently enslaved as well as white indentured servants who worked for a specific amount of time and according to conditions outlined in a legal document, as well as several combinations of the two categories. Both the indentured servants and the slaves were essential to the growth of the colonial economy and society as a whole because of their work. The rapid growth of the farming economy led to a significant need for laborers which led to a chain of events resulting in slavery. By investigating the contractual rights indentured servants had, the living conditions they experienced, and the way indentured servants acted as a precursor for slave labor, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Farmers and masters of indentured servants began moving away from indentured servitude and towards slavery after the first African slaves were brought to Virginia in 1619. The increasing demand for tobacco and indigo also prompted a need for labor, and the African slaves were an even easier method of labor for masters than indentured servants. Servants were also becoming more expensive. As the demand for servants went up their terms got shorter and their contracts became less and less favorable for their masters. In addition to this, the number of indentured servants had fell in the 1660s due to a decrease in the English birthrate and a subsequent rise in English wages. All these factors encouraged a shift away from indentured servitude and towards African slave labor. • 9. Hyperpluralism In California A theory explains and can predict something. There are several theories that try to explain who governs California and why. Of the several theories included in California politics, there is the democratic theory, elite theory, pluralist theory, and hyperpluralism. Of these four theories, most tend to be influenced by one theory as each as their own beliefs to better explain how politics works. Hyperpluralism seems to do a better job at explaining the politics of California when compared to the others. The democratic theory believes that everyone governs and has the most influence on politics in California. The Big Four is an example of elites who used their political power to control those who do not have their own power. The Big Four helped contribute to California s land development and growth. In contrast, hyperpluralism is a theory that explains politics in a more relatable way. No one governs instead power is thinly scattered . Lawrence states how the exercise of political power has become a highly competitive tug of war between institutions, policymakers, political parties, numerous interest groups, and voters (14). Typically name brands have celebrities, athletes, and models broadcast the clothes by wearing them and making commercials so the people behind the screens can look exactly like the people wearing them first. There are companies like Nike that are known to mainly be a sports name brand company and is loved and worn by millions. Unfortunately, many do not know what exactly happens behind the scenes where the clothes, shoes, and accessories are being made. Many name brand companies have fallen under certain accusations of taking part in manufacturing their own products in sweatshops. These sweatshops are where workers of the company are employed in horrible and unsafe working conditions as well as working long hours at low wages. Unfortunately, one of the most popular companies in America is now being kept under surveillance for their unfair labor practices. Most of the reasons were extenuating loss of job, decline in business, death of family ultimately resulting in no longer being able to afford the mortgage. Unfortunately there were some very irresponsible decisions that contributed to the foreclosure of homes, for example, financing huge second and third mortgages to pay for frivolous activities and items. With the last half decade of hard lessons learned for previous home owners many are looking to venture into the market again with some more creative financing options. Many sellers are turning to options such as rent to own or seller carrying the contract with a down payment as well as buyers borrowing against existing retirement and life insurance accounts. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate, and destiny are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars going on during that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading both Aeneas and Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the role of the gods is to make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliad focuses on the end of the Trojan War and the damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the war and underlies the foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the comparison of the role of gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have influence on the lives of mortals. In both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were chosen by gods because they have gained favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were also very specific on who they would help. The gods determined the destiny of the mortals. Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have become favorable in the eyes of the gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because they stand out from ordinary men by having a great military and physical prowess. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare s early romantic comedy most indebted to John Lyly is Love s Labour s Lost (c. 1588 97), a confection set in the never never land of Navarre where the King and his companions are visited by the Princess of France and her ladies in waiting on a diplomatic mission that soon devolves into a game of courtship. As is often the case in Shakespearean romantic comedy, the young women are sure of who they are and whom they intend to marry; one cannot be certain that they ever really fall in love, since they begin by knowing what they want. The young men, conversely, fall all over themselves in their comically futile attempts to eschew romantic love in favour of more serious pursuits. They perjure themselves, are shamed and put down, and are finally forgiven their follies by the women. Shakespeare brilliantly portrays male discomfiture and female self assurance as he explores the treacherous but desirable world of sexual attraction, while the verbal gymnastics of the play emphasize the wonder and the delicious foolishness of falling in love. In The Taming of the Shrew (c. 1590 94), Shakespeare employs a device of multiple plotting that is to become a standard feature of his romantic comedies. • 23. Building Relationships With Customers Is A Key Marketing... Building enduring relationships with customers is a key marketing objective for most firms (Elbedweihy et al., 2016). Customers choose to identify with brands they perceive as attractive, motivated by their self definitional needs fulfillment (Bhattacharya Sen, 2003). Identifying with a company that has an attractive perceived identity may result in benefits to customers in terms of self enhancement (Marin et al., 2009). Customers will feel the motivational impulse to attain a psychological attachment to a brand when they perceive the brand as attractive and as partially fulfilling one or more of their fundamental self definitional needs (Currás Pérez et al., 2009). Customer experience is generated from customer value and is a customer s perception based on interactions through either direct use or distance appreciation of products (Hansen Christensen, 2003). Holbrook s (2002) stated that there are three values measuring user experience: usability, social value and usage pleasure. Usability can be defined through efficiency, learnability, memorability, and represents a broader construct integrating perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Social value accrues to the user because of possessing a particular product. In Shakespeare s Othello, the lack of a narrator, empowers the words spoken by the characters to such an extent that it directs the drama to the desired destination of the play. This essay will serve as proof as the power of words will be discussed by, firstly, explaining the effect that words, and the lack thereof, have on characters and ultimately on the plot. Thereafter, the use of certain words to form perceived impressions of characters will be argued. Lastly, an elaboration on how words are used to involve the audience in the play. Words can have a positive or negative effect on characters (Kaleba Osherow, 2012), it can lead to a character being confident or lead to the deterioration of a character s self concept (as seen in the case of Othello). In this time music has evolved to something of individual celebration, achievement, and even a battle call for the rights of people everywhere expressed though a large range of musical genres and styles. Music can be split into different sections based on how it is produced, what it contains musically, and how it affects the audience through language or influence. Pop music has this effect because it is commonly in a major key and has little to no modulation. This creates a soothing effect that spikes the brain causing the release of serotonin making the listener happier the more they listen. Pop music also creates a soothing and pleasing tone that is both powerful and euphoric through the use of the standard chord progression I V vi VI. This chordal progression is used in many pop music melodies, choruses, and even establishes a commonality through major structures that are both pleasing to the ear and the mind. By creating these melodic structures, pop music is able to give its listeners chordal structure statistical probability. Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability, found that year old children were able to predict tonal sequences found in typical pop music. This is most commonly related to the resolution to the tonic of any given key. Pop music uses this by relying on strong chords within the key, such as the dominant and mediant because of their strong relation to the tonic. Other music styles such as jazz and even some techno rely on weaker chords that stem from the leading tone and sub dominant. This weak structure calls for resolution and even to the untrained ear tend to cause strain and discomfort making them less favorable and not follow the conditional probability found in pop. The main advantage of leasing is to acquire the necessary equipment or assets, use that assets to generate revenue but without tying up a big amount of cash upfront. Thin Layer Chromatography And Column Chromatography Thin Layer Chromatography and Column Chromatography By Maggi Shelton Under the Supervision of Dr. Mills Chavonda The Department of Chemistry and Physics Milledgeville, GA 31061 Abstract: Thin layer chromatography and column chromatography are two different methods that allow for the separation of two miscible solvents. Through column chromatography, a mixture of nonpolar fluorine and polar fluorenone was successfully separated. Thin layer chromatography was then used in order to determine the success of the separation based upon the calculated Rf values, which if the Rf value fell below zero or was above one, then the separation was not successful. Introduction: Methods used to separate miscible solvents include thin layer chromatography (TLC) as well as column chromatography. A method used to separate a mixture of miscible solvents is column chromatography, which is used to purify and separate compounds. The particular speed of the solvents used in the experiment depended upon the properties, being polar or nonpolar, as well as the properties of the prepared column (INSERT SOURCE HERE). A skilled worker would be individually trained sometimes since childhood in a specific component of the product and after all the components were made, the final product could then be assembled. Therefore, the innovation of an assembly line not only cut down on the time of production but also raised revenue whilst lowering the sale cost. Henry Ford introduced the first single model conveyor belt assembly line in the United States in October 1913. This innovation ultimately launched a national movement into the rapid mass production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, when the Model T was designed, it was made for working class people and as economic as possible. During those times, prices of cars were extremely high, therefore not many people owned a car. This assembly line was an innovation that helped optimize the production of a car. This helped the company produce more cars in a day and reduced labor costs. The system of an assembly line was initially created because Ford noticed that time was lost in the travel from one task to another, as employees moved to gather parts or assemble a section of the car. This problem was addressed in the first assembly line by creating the flow of the conveyor belt. This change alone approximately shaved off about half a minute of production time in each section of the car. Although, stations were already being used in assembling a car, the conveyor belt aided in not only putting them closer together but also giving the assembly a smoother finish. An automobile is constructed from the ground up, meaning the frame or chassis is made first, placed on the conveyor belt and moved down the line to be assembled. Although, this assembly line system seemed simple it was a huge transition to go from complete manpower to machine power. This fundamental change in operating systems meant employees needed to be trained on the new functional system. As time has gone on, the original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Ethical Issues With The Human Genome Project As a Christian, but also as a scientist responsible for overseeing the Human Genome Project, one of my concerns has been the limits on applications of our understanding of the genome. Should there be limits? I think there should. I think the public has expressed their concern about ways this information might be misused , Francis Collins an American physician geneticist (BrainyQuote, 2001 2016). A genome is an organism s complete set of genetic instructions. Each genome contains all of the information needed to build that organism and allow it to grow and develop (Engagement, 2015). Uproar of ethical questions spreads throughout the world concerning who would help financially, it being a genetic modification that would ruin the natural system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Healthcare is a big industry worldwide that obtains a large amount of money. There are companies who donate money to help move on the project, such as a pharmaseutical. The Human Genome Project is expanding so much that it may actually become an industry itself, meaning there will be more job opportunities in the medical field (APECSEC.org, 2015). Their main goal is to advance in medication and to be known. The more people know about this project, the more support they will be able to gain and it could grow from then on (Group, 2015). But what if society is spending all of this money for a project that doesn t have a guarantee of working? We may be paying for something that might not advance in science and can put people in danger for being around different chemicals. Finding new medications means they have to be tested after being made; which can put citizens into more danger because scientists aren t certain this process will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Ethical Debate On Prostitution The ethical debate regarding the numerous views on prostitution dates back numerous decades. Prostitution is seen by many as the absolute embodiment of patriarchal male privilege, clearly disallowing feminist support or participation (Kesler, 2002, p. 219). However, views vary widely when assessing different studies such as those that measure the possible harm risks inflected on women working in the field. There are two main opposing views on this subject matter, the liberal and the feminist. Those who view prostitution according to a liberal paradigm embrace the view that prostitution, in its ideal form, must be viewed as a voluntary contract (Peterson Iyer, 1998, p. 25). On the other hand, as Alison Jaggar points out, a liberal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overall moral of her article is to sustain the raising of awareness regarding probable physical, emotional or psychological harm in which prostitutes continue to experience. Also, she attempts to find a middle ground in which feminists may still speak up without neglecting the real needs of modern day prostitutes. It is important, however, to acknowledge the existing social divide between feminists and prostitutes. Rebecca Whisnant and Christine Stark (2004) challenge this perception through identifying the divide in which we assume that whoever we are, the prostitute is not (p. 296). I will proceed by discussing the liberal views debated in this article. Peterson Iyer claims that the most common approach taken by prostitutes organizations is to view prostitution as a matter of individual free choice (p. 24). Furthermore, they emphasize the essential autonomy of the prostitute and the client: they are two adult persons who agree to a mutually beneficial arrangement (p. 26). However, these arrangements could deter in some unfortunate cases such as dishonest police, intrusive laws, or customers who fail to hold up one end of the bargain (p. 26). As well, it is common for prostitutes to experience physical and emotional abuse from their clients, pimps and the police. These occurrences correlate to the experiences upheld by those who are ... • 42. Comparing the Feminine Quest in Surfacing and Song of... The Feminine Quest in Surfacing and Song of Solomon Margaret Atwood in her novel Surfacing and Toni Morrison in her novel Song of Solomon require their heroines to pass through a stage of self interpretation as a prerequisite for re inventing the self. This stage in the feminine journey manifests a critical act typically absent in the traditional male journey, and one that places Atwood and Morrison s heroines at odds with the patriarchal community. If authors of feminine journeys meet the requirements set out by feminist critics like Dana Heller, then we must also provide a method for interpreting the texts that will be palatable for critics from the patriarchy. Otherwise we perpetuate an hostility between the camps that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But as conditions in real life changed, the structure and impact of the old stories failed to keep pace, and we found ourselves with a confusing mismatch of perceived roles and desired roles. The revised male journey became flight from women and from the influence of others according to Heller thus creating the literary label of anti hero (24). He still journeyed, but he kept the boon to himself (it was a lesser one anyway). If for some reason he does pass back through his sponsoring community, he is not received as a prince returning home.. The revised female journey became more fully hers, but like the male anti hero, the Jane Eyres and Emma Bovarys become social outcasts and outlaws for refusing to remain in their duly assigned roles. For a satisfactory conclusion to these stories, the audience required death or marriage still generally portrayed as a final submission to patriarchal authority. Dana Heller tells us now that Women s quests must propose strategies for escaping debilitating structures, for discovering authentic selfhood, and for claiming the right to take her journey out into the world (13). Heller expresses here an imperative to current and future writers of the feminine journey to generate stories that accord the heroine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Pros And Cons Of Smoking I work security full time at a computer company located in Norman, Oklahoma. Here, we have a no smoking policy, which means smoking is not allowed, even outside. If an employee wanted to smoke, then he or she would have to leave the property. This policy change happened some years ago, when someone from human resources (H.R.) saw employees standing in front of the entrance, as he or she was trying to enter, smoking cigarettes. Me personally, I agree with this policy. I feel that those of us who don t smoke shouldn t have to suffer for those who do. But the main reason I agree with this policy is because it s said that second hand smoking is just as dangerous as first hand smoking and it can even lead to cancer. Is second hand smoke really that dangerous? What is second hand smoke? Second hand smoke (also called environmental tobacco smoke, involuntary smoke, and passive smoke) is the combination of sidestream smoke (the smoke given off by a burning tobacco product) and mainstream smoke (the smoke exhaled by a smoker). People can be exposed to second hand smoke in homes, cars, the workplace, and public places, such as bars, restaurants, and recreational settings. In the United States, the source of most second hand smoke is from cigarettes, followed by pipes, cigars, and other tobacco products. The amount of smoke created by a tobacco product depends on the amount of tobacco available for burning. The amount of second hand smoke emitted by smoking one large ... The vision of a company promotes the development and is a measure of growth within the organization. The value of the company incorporates the people who are valuable to the company. The company can value its workers, shareholders or its customers in a given market. The vision of the company should be long term and should be unique compared to the visions of other companies. The management should formulate a mission statement for every statement to remind the workers why the company operates and its objective. The mission statement serves as a reminder that the company has some objectives that the workers have to work on to be achieved.
