Accommodation Rectilinear forms, repetition of design elements creates ornamentation and decoration. The massing of the building is a rectangular form placed vertically, which allows the building to be constructed upwards without taking up too much space. Repetition of geometric shapes is shown by the repetitiveness of the windows and floors of the same respective size. A vertical axis can be drawn to the building and an asymmetrical balance can be seen. It gives a visual sense of emphasis to the one side of the building. The total number of floor units makes up the whole building, giving it its vertical rectangular form. The hotel is located within the enclosures of the Mid Valley Megamall and the main road. It was a 30 stories high-tech grade A office tower. The Axiata Group Berhad moved in to the building, and it received its status as a muitlmedia Super Corridor (MSC) office building The building is formed by interlocking cylinder and a rectangular form The building is made up of a cylinder intersecting with a rectangle. UNIT TO WHOLE ADDITION & SUBTRACTION The building is in asymmetrical form, where the taller rectangular form has more emphasis and dominance to the viewers’ eyes The building is formed by the total numbers of floor The first lower 6th floors are public commercial places whereas starting from 6th floor and above, it is being used as private companies’ office Public Spaces Private Spaces The shape of the building is by adding a cylinder shape and a rectangular form. Jalan Pasar Pudu, Kuala Lumpur. Wisma IAV Modernism Wisma IAV is a modern contemporary designed purpose-built retail and commercial building. It comprises of 12 floors with 2 basement car parks and a mechanical elevator car park situated in the site The building is using aluminium cladding with glass walling to create a modernism feeling which looks outstanding in the neighbourhood The two blocks of tower interlock each other at one corner which created a curve look facade The aluminium cladding was used as a part of the structure at the facade and also to create a dynamic pattern for the building. West Elevation South Elevation The windows at east facade is showing the used of the repetition of geometric shapes. It also create a contrast with the West Elevation which is more dynamic look. The space organization of the building created a free flow (indicated in red) which allow great amount of occupants can easily circulate inside the area Glass walling of facade need more columns to help for support. Porsche Centre Sungai Besi Unknown ARCHITECTURAL STYLE Modernism ARCHITECT HISTORY Showroom FUNCTION ANALYSIS MASSING SUBTRACTION LIGHT PENETRATION PUBLIC & PRIVATE DESIGN CONCEPT Porsche Centre Sungai Besi is constructed on a 1.3 acre plot of land with a built-up area of 34,703 sqft. It comes with a sales gallery and a capacity of displaying up to 20 cars The building is made from quarter of circle which provides a wider view for the passerby The building performs a 90 degrees’ pie shape. The curve part (front entrance) which facing the main road to grab attention from passengers by showing their luxury Porsche merchandise and cars SYMMETRY & BALANCE The Porsche Centre is symmetrical in one direction. The curved which is balanced in the other has also helped the building to emphasize on its entrance meanwhile it is also facing to the main road at the same time 2D Plan View 3D Elevation The form of the building is subtracted by ¼ from a full circle The building spans two floors with a large sunlit atrium by the front entrance which is made by glass windows and walls. The mall takes up of two floors of the retail podium, which is located below the offices Interconnectivity created by wide open spaces with unique streetscapes and walkways,the unique atrium boulevard forms the spine of a specialty retail experience Overall shapes are added together to give the whole structure an irregular arrangement ASYMMETRICAL PLAN ARRANGEMENT Its arranged in a way where spatial hierarchy is separated accordingly which produced into a much more organized layout. It is located opposite KL Central Station which provides convenience access for the hotel guest to KL City Center and KL International Airport. This hotel has 35 floors with about 420 rooms which can accommodate up to 1000 guests a day The architect wanted to share the architecture structural of Le Meridien with Hilton Hotel to creates a reflection illusion between the 2 buildings The hotel is designed by interlocking the volumes of 3 rectangular forms together Grid is used to generate the geometric pattern of the building. It unifies the building with repetitive geometry Le Meridien Hotel and Hilton Hotel create a reflection illusion between each other. A vertical axis can be created among these 2 hotels. It consists of offices and shop lots. All the office space are corner lots being designed to capture the maximum exterior panoramic view with almost all of the Klang Valley without any obstacles 2 rectangular form tower is situated beside each other and it is connected by the commercial block below Commercial Block Two identical blocks of office buildings are interconnected by the commercial block at the bottom. SYMMETRICAL BALANCE The buildings reflect everything in this composition on either side of an actual or imaginary access.The tower’s plan or elevation are mirror to each other. Due to it’s strategised location and corner plot, Faber Towers each plot captures a natural lighting and provides unobstructed panoramic view of the Klang Valley. It consists of 3 blocks, 19 floors and a total of 370 units. This condo is a modern building design with several facilities including swimming pool and tennis court The condominium is designed of 3 blocks with interlocking volumes of 3 rectangular shaped buildings formed together This condominium is divided through radial symmetry meaning each side of the condo is equally balanced and both of the axes intersect at a base point. SYMMETRICAL BALANCE SUBTRACTION GEOMETRY REPETITION A combination of perfect squares of varying sizes can be seen from the plan. Repetition is shown by the repetitiveness of the windows of the same dimensions in a block. The entrance of the building is subtracted from the rectangular form. Although it’s subtracted, we still perceive it as rectangular form The design of the overall structure is a regular form of a cuboid from plan and elevated to the top. That gives the whole building of a definition of a cuboid massing. KWC Fashion Mall is endorsed by Tourism Malaysia as a Kuala Lumpur must visit destination. The idea of the architect is to design a building façade which blend in and relate the design with the context surrounding the building The design of the building structure is in rectangular form by using 2 rectangular shapes give the whole building a tidy outlook. The façade of the building which is covered by the windows, and it is using the concept of repetition. It makes the building has a more unique outlook. REPETITION The linear circulation that formed a loop in KWC Fashion Mall ease the people to move around in the mall. The building is a horizontal rectangular form as it has made by the numbers of floor units The both side of the building looks similar and it gives a sense of balance to the people 2013 Jalan Travers, Kuala Lumpur DCA Architects Menara CIMB ARCHITECTURAL STYLE Modernism ARCHITECT HISTORY Office DESIGN CONCEPT ANALYSIS MASSING EMPHASIS ADDITION REPETITION TO UNIQUE FUNCTION Repetitive elements that unites and forms up a unique pattern. The massing and basic structure of the building in the whole are formed by interlocking three cuboids of varying sizes, with the horizontal cuboid set as the base and main structural support 2013 SUBTRACTION REPETITION DYNAMIC / RYTHYM ASYMMETRICAL BALANCE The tower is constructed mainly by stacking repeating units of “half diamonds,” creating a unique sense of visual to the whole building The repetitive “half diamond” units are stacked and arranged vertically as such, where the joint angles give a sense of a rhythmic zig-zag pattern. A vertical axis can be drawn and an asymmetrical balance can be seen. SPACIAL ORGANIZATION Repetition of octagon and hexagon can be found in the aerial view of the mosque It is designed by the traditions of symmetrical and repetitive shapes in Islamic Architecture. An equal octagon are used in this building Spatial organization in this mosque are centric, hence it allows public to access through multiple entrances and focus activity in the center of the building.
